|Q| Root and unroot

hello, i got samsung galaxy s2 and im welling to buy g3 because finally i found the perfect phone for me.
the thing is i dont know much about lg root method. im used to the root methods on samsung
can i root the lg g3 d855 without any problems and can i unroot it so i can got updates ?
i know that sony got problems with the root the phone became weaker, samsung got the knox so so basically unroot doesnt help is there anything same with lg ?

Rooting the phone is really easy, infact you can do it without even using a PC (towelroot). At the moment there is no custom recovery, but hopefully we will see that change once the phone is released in more countries (later this week).
As for unroot, one simple method would be to re-flash stock, but I assume you are looking for an easier solution than that.

That's what I am looking for too because of the bloody Barclays Bank app.
I want to root my LG G3, block ads, bloatware etc and then unroot to get Barklays app working
S4min, Grand 2, Note 2 - I always rooted phones and then unrooted by uninstalling root in SuperSu app.
Is there any similar method for LG G3?
Re-flashing to unroot doesn't make sense for me cos I will loose everything I needed the root for

i dont care if its easy or not the thing is can i unroot it and still use the warranty without known that i had root before ?
and another question, i read that there is boatload and its difficult to root is it true ? what is this boatload ?

I don't have my G3 yet to check (and not sure I will be rooting it straight away when I do get it, I want to see how far I can go without root first), but I cannot see why the unroot method in SuperSU would not work.

Flashing back to stock should take you back as if you have never rooted. Assuming all you did was root the phone.
If/when there are further modifications such as unlocking bootloader and flashing custom recovery images this might change.

I recently purchased an LG G3 mobile and it is running lollipop 5.0 on o2 and I would like to change a few things 1. change the colour of that orange top in the messaging app - people have told me I need root for this so my question is:
What is the best and safest root process for me to use as I have never rooted before and havnt got a clue, I just do not want to break the mobile as its brand new. I don't want it to change any counters, timers, warrantys or do anything else and especially I do NOT want it to stop me getting OTA android updates

Hi there.
As soon as you root any phone you immediately lose your warranty. However if you ever need to send it for repair, you can easily revert the process these days.
LG, unlike Samsung, has not what you call "timers" meaning a record if you have rooted and how many times you have flashed your phone so you are pretty safe on that aspect as LG cannot tell. Even on Samsung these days there are ways to revert the so called "timers" to null.
Once you root your phone you will also lose the capability of OTA's but as I said this can be easily undone...you unroot, update the OTA and root again. (if a root method is available for that specific version of OTA which usually is and if not it comes out usually in a few days/weeks)
Hope this clarifies your doubts.
***One word of advice: read, read and read. Rooting and flashing custom ROMS is fun and custom ROMS are way better than stock. Just take your time to learn and don't be in a hurry. This way nothing will happen to your phone.

thank you very much for your info, so I shall just use the link posted about and root that way. Although I DO NOT intend to use a custom rom. one of the reasons I want to root is to get rid of the stupid Mcafee app that comes on the LG G3

Yes mate just follow that tutorial and you will be alright. Don't forget to read well first so that you will know what you are doing and nothing wrong will happen.
You don't have to install custom ROMS though. There are an immense amount of things you will be able to do to your phone once rooted.

LG G3 D850 Resurrection

My Samsung GN 4 died and I resurrected my LG G3. I did a hard rest and it update to 6.0. I am on ATT. I was contemplating putting on Fulmics rom but am having a difficult time rooting. I used Quick Root and there was no root available for my device. I downloaded Kingroot which seemed to work until I rebooted. I tried to find Autorec for MM d850 and couldn't seem to. I guess I'm asking is this device not rootable? I tried an adb flash and couldn't complete the root process. I have rooted for years. Samsung's is locked down and you can't root on the GN 4. I wondered if this was the same deal?

You need to downgrade to KitKat first by flashing the tot image for it. Afterwards, you should be and to root and install TWRP.

VS986 n00b* Whats important?? -just upgraded from the G2 VS980

I know the Verizon variant of the G2 was different from the others, and from what I've read about this G4 and the Verizon Variant; it has its similar but differences to the others as well? I posted a screen shot of how i received my new phone right off the bat.
Root: I saw the only? root method was a .kdz flash of the 11A? Is this the ONLY way? Because my phone arrived on the 26A which i see most of you talking about just recently getting this update?
Boot loader: Its LOCKED up tight?? So their is no Custom Recovery such as TWRP correct??
Xposed: Xposed can be installed; IF you have obtained root.....
Is this info correct? Only one root method for VS986? and the etc above??
Is their any other important MUST KNOW info on this G4 in general and the VS986 specifically??

So yeah the Verizon version of the phone is different compared to the International version. Our bootloader is locked and will likely remain so. This means that if you're running Android 6.0 (and you are with 26A) that means you cannot root the phone nor can you use a custom recovery. This phone is getting a bit old so I wouldn't count on ever seeing the bootloader unlocked.
I had rooted the device last year using the only root method that has been available so far. Root "injection" is what they called it, I believe. Once rooted there is a way to get Xposed framework on there too. From what I've read here on the forums there is a way to downgrade your phone to the older version in order to use the root injection technique. For me it wasn't really worth it though because I felt the upgrade to Android 6 was worth giving up root for.

The phone is pretty much dead. I know Verizon stopped selling it, supposedly due to issues, and I believe AT&T did as well.
You can downgrade to 13B using LGUP.
You can use Debloater on 26A to freeze all the Verizon nonsense.
On last thing. The bootloops is real.

Mine just boot looped yesterday too, unbelievable. I am pretty sure this is why Verizon stopped selling the phone, failure rate was just too high. Looks like most of the early model G4s will fail due to this.

Yeah. Get rid of this phone. Can't do anything with it. I ditched it after a month.

Wow. So there's basically no Roms for this phone because the bootloader can't be unlocked in order to install them? And that's why there are only a couple of threads in the Verizon G4 development forum?

I love both of my $1 G4 phones from BestBuy. Yes I have had the boot loop problem but Best Buy handled it nicely. I believe the bootloader being locked does not stop custom ROMs as the boot loader was locked on the G2 and G3 as well wasn't it? As for customizing the G4 I have mine running beautifully. Debloated and modded with Xposed. I do agree that it is sketchy working without a real recovery and backup being a moment away at all times. For me, I'm going to use my Verizon G4 until it lets me down, but for now I love it.

I'm probably going to just either jump back to a compatible G3 or ahead to a Moto X Pure Edition when it comes time to upgrade next spring. I don't have time for these Verizon shenanigans anymore.

is rooting worth it?

So all my previous phone have all been rooted and custom rom.
Just bought the LG g4 and tried rooting but when I unlocked the bootloader it went into bootloop.
Sent it to LG for repair and waited a week and just got it back.
I'm scared to try it again.
Suggestions?

Depends. I've rooted mine and i don't really use root anyway. Only benefit of unlocked bootloader and root is when u want to use apps like viper4android or flash Nougat roms. I'm now using simplegx rom and it is pretty stock, plus the safetynet isn't passing because of bootloader. Imo the best would be if LG just could release Nougat, but they will do it at the end of a year i guess.

The boot loader is nothing to do with the safety net. I use android pay on my phone.
As for rooting, I use it for a few things. Mostly adblockers these days. So unless you have an app that you need it for probably not.

Now in my case rooting is a must. Yea i use viper. But between xposed. And stuff like bloat removal not just disable. Normally i end up with sprint phones and im not a sprint customer. Usaully require root to unlock. And now aparantly modify the apn setting too on the g4. Battery life mods.

There are a few xposed modules that I can't live without, so root is a must. In my experience, custom ROMs often introduce issues with the camera, so I'm not going crazy waiting for my H810 to get an unofficial bootloader unlock (though I'm following that development closely out of nerdy curiosity). Plus everything @TheMadScientist420 mentioned.

Im a stock rom kinda guy so unlocked bl isnt a must as long as i can modify stock system how i need.
My biggest thkng is i use after market. Old htc sense flip clock so hiding clock in staus bar is a must also has a battery gauge. So gotta hide batter meter too. I hate stuffed up notification bars. Plus. Like my note 5 has no usb port so wifi file transfer adb through wifi and such is a must there.
Which sammy just beat lg. Nougat just came out for my note 5 but i cant odin back stock due to no usb port. So i have to wait for a ftwrp flashable version.

Root and adaway is absolutely minimum. Than U can have xposed and the "gate" is open.

I just don't wanna bootloop again

Actually safetynet can check if bootloader is unlocked so it has a lot to do. There are some kernel tweaks that hide bootloader status but i havn't seen it on any g4 kernel. I'm not passing safetynet after unlocking and using stock roms like simplegx or imperium. I havn't tried flashing stock kdz tho. What are your software then that doesn't trigger safetynet? Would be helpful

Im using a stock based rom, and magisk root. I have also passed on LOS based roms too but nfc doesnt work in Android pay (it does in other apps)
