[Q] Slow LTE speeds, troubleshooting - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, had to download some rather large documents over LTE today and noticed slow speeds. Took a couple of bandwidth speed tests and never got above 15 Mbit/s on download, this with a signal strength of about -100dBm. This may not seem to strange, but then I ran the same tests with a friends galaxy S5 and scored about 60-80 Mbit/s also with a signal strength of about -100dBm. We are using the same carrier with the same internet subscription.
My first thought was software issues, loaded the firmware I had on the phone when it came out of the box (V10H International) from a backup. Same "problem". Also tried with 10L/M but no luck. Any ideas about how I should proceed troubleshooting this?

T-Mobile Network Upgrade

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but anything related to the internet is about 10 times faster today for me... I thought i had my wi-fi on until I read a post about T-Mobile's 7.2 rollout. I suggest you all check out your speeds.
Speed checked, maybe this had somethign to do with the service outtage the other night LOL
Speed Increase? Not here
I purchased my TP2 in part because T-Mobile's web site indicated full 3G coverage here in Centerville, Ohio. I've had the phone for a week now, and have YET to see the 3G connection on the phone. The E is all I ever see, and that speed has not increased since the outage.
Maybe your local tower was upgraded.

I was thinking that very thing. Except without the "lol"

Engadget is reporting that none of their tests are showing the new speeds yet, so it does appear to be limited to certain markets at this point.
so how do i increse my network speed if i have a speed of 177 with 3g
T-mobil HSPA roll out
T-mobile has started to roll out HSPA 7.2 mb in all 3G network areas. Go to www.tmonews.com to read up on it. They are trying to get most of the network up by the end of DEC. HSPA is much faster than 3g...about 3x.
Richard
To have 177 you must have a poor RF.
Honestly, I have 5mbps over Wi-Fi and that's more than the TP2 can handle for browsing. It doesn't load pages much faster vs a good 3G signal.
well i got 544 now that i have hspa turned on
Damn, I am in seattle and I range from 500kbps to over 3kbps via mobilespeedtest.com
here in phoenix i can get 3mbps on the handset and up to 9.3mbps thering on my laptop i even started playing call of duty using ics and see little lag. i am debating on canceling my cox subscription. i noticed this the day after the data outage. i can post speed tests if you dont believe me
i shouldnt have spoke so soon i only could get a max of 8.7 just now but im only at 3 bars on h on this side of my house... ill run further tests later...
here is test on speedtest
here is test on bandwithplace

dsl reports did not work because it said m,y connection was too fast for a mobile speed test
That is very nice, considering T-Mobile had their HSPA network crippled at a 4th of that a few months ago.
Testmyiphone.com works well, but the TP2 never ever registers higher than 2.17mbps over Wi-Fi. There is a limitation or something happening there because my iPhone averages over 4mbps(Wi-Fi) on the same site/same connection. Nevertheless it's accurate - over 3G here I get about 600-700kbps so no upgrades have been put online here.

GN Speeds ಠ_ಠ

Identical Galaxy Nexus devices in every way; different speeds. Wtf?
While other people are reporting getting 8-14mbps, I'm lucky if my speeds hit 4mbps. Sometimes it hits 6 and once, out of the 70 tests I ran, it hit 9mbps.
Just swapped out my "old" T-mo sim card for a new one, checked my apn settings to make sure everything is correct, and my rom/kernel have not affected my speeds.
..So how is it other people in a seriously close proximity to my area, with the exact same phone, and the exact same service, get different speeds. Can someone explain how this whole HSPA+ [email protected] works plz ಠ_ಠ
I'm going borderline insane, running stupid speed tests every 5 minutes and burning through my 5GB data plan like a monster. I think I've thought of every plausible explanation as to why my speeds are so low but what it's come down to is that maybe my hardware is faulty in some way.
Different towers have different speeds. At work I get ~8 down and 3 up and at home which is 1.4 miles away according to my google maps app I get ~2 down and .8 up.
Out of my 70 tests, I've constantly switched between three different servers, all of which are located right in NYC. I've been running my tests all over the city too, in three different boroughs. 4Mbps is a speed I'm lucky to hit... 5 if it's past midnight during the weekday. Always have full bars signal, connected to HSPA:11, apn = epc.tmobile.com .
I don't see what the problem is; driving me crazy
Does it make a huge difference? 4 is plenty fast. Use that data to the cap and see how low they get

Your neighbor must be downloading pr0n!
If you were standing next to another person with a GN and identical account, APN settings, etc. and he got way more than you and you were able to repeat the results across a number of different towers, THEN you might be on to something.

That's basically what the situation is...
Man I gave you the exact location of the panel where I'm getting 14mbps. Go there and test it late nights... If you're still seeing poor speeds then you have a problem.
Each and every tower has different backhaul, amount of users connected, etc... It's not a fixed connection, it's shared in every possible way.
There could be many different reasons why your speeds aren't as high as what you seen others getting. Time of day, signal strength, network saturation are just some of the things that can impact your speeds. From looking at your speed test results, most of your results look pretty normal to me. I don't think there's anything for you to worry about judging from your results.

[Q] Slow data speed on 3 UK - any fixes?

Hi all,
I’m having really poor signal and slow internet connection on 3 network around North London area in the open (2/3 bars), and no data connection inside my house even in rooms with large windows. I’ve spend 2 hours on the phone with 3 technical support yesterday trying to solve this problem without any success. They are currently looking into this to see if they can fix it for me in the next couple of days.
I’ve tried the 3 sim in my Note with similar slow speed, so I can assume the handset is fine, and it must be a problem with 3 network. But since the 3 operator told me they have excellent coverage in my area and there is no engineering working taking place, I’m guessing this is the speed I can expect on their network, which is a shame since I choose 3 mainly for the unlimited internet package.
I’ve add couple of screen shots between Vodafone sim in the Note against 3 sim in the One X. The shocking thing is the 3 speed is much better than yesterday where it never reached over 1 mbps down.
Can somebody share some 3 network speed around north London please and any suggestion on how to solve this is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks for reading this long post, and happy Easter everyone.
3 is the slowest network in the uk it is well known thats why they offer cheapest plans. Personally i would have got a free payg sim from them first to test data speeds. Only thing u can do is send it back if u have a cooling off period

I did brought the One X as pay as you go from them with £15 p/m rolling contract. My plan is wait after Easter and if the problem is not solved, I'll ask for 3 to cancel my rolling contract and unlock the One X for free so I can use it on other networks.
I'd like to stay on 3 if they can match Vodafone speed, as I want to stream music from Google and upload pictures to Dropbox due to the limited storage space on the One X.
What kind of speeds are you getting? I've been with Three for a while now, and always had good data speeds and connection APART from when I am up near Hampstead, which might be where you are.
Anyway, these are the speeds I am getting in West London

I have posted a thread about weak signal too - and I am on Orange.
Also, I assume three are quite slow anyway - and I doubt the unlimited plans help them out there.
*Also, feel lucky my average speed where I live is 1.9mbps on a mobile connection! Your old speed on Vodaphone is the same as my speed on broadband
On the brightside your ping seems to be better

Thanks.
I work near Hampstead, so that is not good new, have to do some more tests when I'm back to work after Easter. I live in Barnet with is 7 miles further North.
I'll be happy to get 4-5 mbps down, 1 mpbs and ping around 200 ms, this way I can stream music and upload photos.

The One X's WIFI signal seems no worse than my other mobile devices, and my 3 sim works just as bad in my Note, so I'm no sure about One X mobile signal strength.
I'd stay with Vodafone except they only allow 1GB p/m max for data usage, I think I'll try out Talkmobile as they use Vodafone network and have larger data allowance.

You should see the results from yesterday, I was getting ping delay up to 2049 ms.

Wifi signal has been excellent - just mobile data signal has been really shoddy (generally 1/2 bar max - getting 3/4 on my Milestone)

Same here, 1 or 2 bars out of 5 inside of the house with no data connection, and 2 to 3 bars outside. I think it is a problem with 3 and not the phone as I'm getting the same poor signal with 3 sim in my Note, where as the Note gets full bars with Vodafone sim in it.
I made a speedtest today in a well covered area and I am impressed. ;-)
Country: Austria
Operator: Drei (Three)
hmm this seams quite worrying, is this typical speed for people one 3? I thought they had their network HSDPA+ enabled so should be seeing good speeds provided you had the signal.
I am getting about 8Meg down and 3Meg up. I have never seen such high upload speed before I got the One X....download speed seems much the same.
Also I have noticed that the One X seems to show fewer signal bars than previous handsets I have used but still works in all the same places. The One X drops to 3G data vs HSDPA(+) when not much data is passing through to save battery power.
I can't comment on the signal strength in London, but I travel between Lincolnshire - Hull and the coastal regions (Bridlington, Withernsea, etc) and in most locations, even if the signal isn't the strongest, the speed is blisteringly fast.
This is a test I just ran and I wasn't even on a 3G signal, only 2 bars on H.
hmm sounds to me then like the may have a few cell sites that need a back haul upgrade on their fibre links.
Probably to be expected in London and other area's with high population density.
Guys you get some good speeds on 3 compared to T-Mobile network 0.46 download, 0.13 upload. This is obviously within my house and signal has always been poor.
Got about 3Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up average in Salford on 3 UK. Pretty decent to me.
My results were from sitting in my living room.
Sent from my HTC One X
These are my results from North West England, indoors -
Download: 5.37 Mbps
Upload: 1.56 Mbps
Ping: 160 ms
Though it does vary a bit.
I went back to the 3 store this afternoon to get a new micro sim card, as the original sim card was cut by the staff from a normal sim, so there might be a chance it wasn't cut properly.
However, the phone with the new sim still produce slow data speed of less than 1mpbs down and 0.05 mbps up. The interesting things is while in the 3 store the speed test was over 6 mpbs down and 2 up with 78 ms ping.
im on 3 and i live in a little village in the middle of no were, and my speeds are very fast have never had an issue with my 3 network at all.

[Q] Erratic 4G speeds in the same location?

Hi all,
Had the S3 for about a month now and love it. Until about a week ago my 4G speeds here in Seattle were great. Averaging 4-12Mbps down and 1-3Mbps up.
However, in the last few days my speeds have been all over the place. Sometimes I'll have 40ms ping and a 12Mbps download speed. 10 minutes later I'll have a 500ms ping and .5Mbps downloads. And it isn't just the Speedtest app. I only run the tests when I notice a website is incredibly slow to load or Google Reader is taking 30 seconds to refresh (it usually takes about 4 seconds).
I called T-Mobile worthless support line who basically said "restart your phone". Ugh.
Anyway, I'm not rooted and not terribly interested in flashing a new ROM (stock is running fine for me).
I came from Sprint where they could run profile updates if you were having data issues. Does Tmo have anything similar?
thanks!
PS I'm still within my 90-day Costco return/exchange period, so I'm happy to take it in if needs be.
Not here to answer your question but I'm on the edge of leaving sprint for tmobile for this phone....would you say your experience has been better?

Much better than my friends who are with Sprint. I get around 20Mbps download speeds on average everywhere I have 4G (which is just about everywhere).
There's been some thread popping out with slow data speeds, might be T-Mobile doing something with their towers.
I'm experiencing the same issues.

[Q] No data on LTE connection....

No LTE in my area of California here in Rancho Cucamonga so when im in Orange County I love to run speed test to test out the LTE speeds. Ive been doing this from back when I had my Note 1. The speeds in the Irvine area were up to 22mbps+ on the Note 1. Finally had the chance to take my Note 2 into a LTE area and was completely taken back by the fact that on my first test I maxed out at 11Mbps then had zero data never reaching 1Mbps all day. Did a battery pop, reset my data, also reset my APN's and still nothing over a MB. My wife's note2 on a different contract but still on ATT also had zero data not even able to pull simple web pages or even Google Play. Has anyone else experienced the same issue on their phone?

i had this problem when i first got my Note II, one minute i had data the next none at all, ended up going back to ATT and having them replace the phone and the sim. the guy at the store said it was probably a bad sim but since he was a friend he replaced everything for me. I suggest taking both and getting new sims to see if that fixes your problems if that doesnt work then new phones with the new sims
This sounds somewhat like issue i am having. I show some bars and 4g data but when i goto use the data it disconnects. I was thinking this was a problem of weak lte signal and not dropping down to 3g properly, now i think it could be worth a sim swap. The areas i have experienced no data are areas that worked fine on my iphone4.
