I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but anything related to the internet is about 10 times faster today for me... I thought i had my wi-fi on until I read a post about T-Mobile's 7.2 rollout. I suggest you all check out your speeds.
Speed checked, maybe this had somethign to do with the service outtage the other night LOL
Speed Increase? Not here
I purchased my TP2 in part because T-Mobile's web site indicated full 3G coverage here in Centerville, Ohio. I've had the phone for a week now, and have YET to see the 3G connection on the phone. The E is all I ever see, and that speed has not increased since the outage.
Maybe your local tower was upgraded.

Engadget is reporting that none of their tests are showing the new speeds yet, so it does appear to be limited to certain markets at this point.
so how do i increse my network speed if i have a speed of 177 with 3g
T-mobil HSPA roll out
T-mobile has started to roll out HSPA 7.2 mb in all 3G network areas. Go to www.tmonews.com to read up on it. They are trying to get most of the network up by the end of DEC. HSPA is much faster than 3g...about 3x.
Richard
To have 177 you must have a poor RF.
Honestly, I have 5mbps over Wi-Fi and that's more than the TP2 can handle for browsing. It doesn't load pages much faster vs a good 3G signal.
well i got 544 now that i have hspa turned on
Damn, I am in seattle and I range from 500kbps to over 3kbps via mobilespeedtest.com
here in phoenix i can get 3mbps on the handset and up to 9.3mbps thering on my laptop i even started playing call of duty using ics and see little lag. i am debating on canceling my cox subscription. i noticed this the day after the data outage. i can post speed tests if you dont believe me
i shouldnt have spoke so soon i only could get a max of 8.7 just now but im only at 3 bars on h on this side of my house... ill run further tests later...
here is test on speedtest
here is test on bandwithplace

dsl reports did not work because it said m,y connection was too fast for a mobile speed test
That is very nice, considering T-Mobile had their HSPA network crippled at a 4th of that a few months ago.
Testmyiphone.com works well, but the TP2 never ever registers higher than 2.17mbps over Wi-Fi. There is a limitation or something happening there because my iPhone averages over 4mbps(Wi-Fi) on the same site/same connection. Nevertheless it's accurate - over 3G here I get about 600-700kbps so no upgrades have been put online here.

Has anyone tested their US tmo 3g speeds at any test sites?
i did mine today while connected to 3g and it only showed a DL speed of
68Mbps (484 Kbps)
thats like not even 1% better then edge speed....
i tested at testmyiphone.com
Those numbers don't compute. 68Mbs is blazing fast. Faster than even my cable modem, faster than any cellular connection on the planet, and way, way faster than 484Kbps.
68Mbs = 68000 kbps
484kbs = 0.484 Mbps
S
my bad. sorry if forgot the point.
so its:
.68 Mbps not 68
i downloaded a 3MB file in 83 seconds....
.68mbps is a lot? I thought 3G was at most like 1Mbps? I tethered to my laptop and got .86Mbps down and .30Mbps up.
no my first posting said 68 in error.. it should have read .68.
so his comment was regarding 68 being too fast and incorect on my part.
so the question stands at .68 for evaluation
about the same here
.47Mbps(469Kbps) DL speed3072 KB in 53.6 seconds
Have tested higher before
ok good..
what gets me is when the page says its only a small percentage faster then edge... this is my first 3g... so i have nothing to compare it too....

Much faster than edge on my retired tmo wing...lol
Saw 880kbps in downtown Rochester NY using the DSL reports mobile speed test last weekend. Much slower on 3G in Newport News VA during the week, in the 400kbps range (can't remember exactly)
Which browsers are you using to perform these tests? Opera? PIE? I got 120 KBs on PIE using 6mb test and 71KBs on Opera. Is this test even accurate for WMo considering it was setup for Iphone? I tried the download and the combination test, the download speed was much faster during the combination test.
Sorry to be off topic but i just had to ask this... I currently have a blackberry data plan with t-mo and would like to know if this will work with the touch pro 2 as far as internet connectivity goes. I didn't get it to work with the g1 and the mytouch since it connects with google servers and required web2go. any answers or thoughts?

works for me. Using BB plan on my Tmo TP2 no problem.
cool, thanks for the heads up. this is way cool.
Here are my data tests from when i first got the Tmo TP2 when it launched.
that's not bad at all.
i haven't tested since then, but i may
Good news guys tmo just sent out an internal letter to all employees that they will be throttleing up there 3g speed to 3.6 by late oct early nov. and 7.2 by mid december. and it also stated that there hsdpa 21 is in the near future at the begining of the year. that is pretty much verbatim of the email.
that's great news! now we're really making progress.
1.07Mbps/1065Kbps/130kBps tmobile 3g download test on testmyiphone site. BB curve managed to get 4-6kBps on edge before I switched to tp2
When I first got the TP2, I was getting speeds consistently over 1 M on the stock rom using mspeed, kind of shocked me as the google phones were never close to those speeds. I'm using the genesis rom now and still get pretty much the same speeds. I wonder why this phone is so much faster than the android phones!
So anybody who gets T-Mobile 3G now is able to take advantage of The new upgraded HSPA 7.2Mbps 3.5G network. Phone that are able to take advantage of this are the HTC G1, HTC MyTouch, HTC Dash 3G, HTC Touch Pro 2, Samsung Behold 2,and I believe the Blackberry 9700.
Check your speed using you phone browser at www.mobilespeedtest.com
Here is my speed in Miami, Fl.
Must not be in every market. 3g In phoenix seems to top out around 250kbps...at least right now.
Should in all 3G markets. It might be rolling out to different cities throughout the day.
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/01/t-mobile-officially-upgrades-to-hspa-7-2mbps/
Also try doing the 1Mb or larger test.
Yeah you're probably right. I'll just keep checking through the day. These speeds will nearly make the fee for 3g worth it.
Mine is 541kps, is that good? lol Have no idea about phone speeds.
The way ISPs advertise speeds is in bits. When we download is its bytes. So 7.2MBPS should be equilvalent to 7200 / 8 = 900 Kbytes a sec. So 900kbps should be max on our phones which is in between dsl and cable modem speeds. This is of course on the Tmobile Network. The fastest I got on my Tmobile TP2 was 800kbps full 3G bars.
I'm in the Tampa Bay area with full 3g bars. I did the 1MB test and got 717kb's per second. Not sure how to tell if I improved from before tmobile "upgraded" to hspa

Me too, just about the same, which is an upgrade at least 50% from before. I can't wait to try it out at work tomorrow with a full signal!!!
1774kbps in phoenix right now...pretty decent...
I have always used :

However the site posted here gives me much better results, so I think I prefer it. Bit odd though.
Ok guys. When you test it out it gives yous the small download test. You need to retest at 2Mb or higher to see the real speed. I used the 7Mb test to test my connection and was consistently getting 6500Kbps - 7000Kbps
I noticed quite a difference between Opera and Opera 10 Beta. What's the most accurate browser to use?
To get a "true" test I use Internet Explorer
Too bad all this speed won't mean **** because our CPU is slow. You will only take advantage of these speeds when you tether to your computer.
Not sure the test is reliable, got so many reading on my end. 700+kps, sometimes 25kps (huh????) sometime 650++, etc.
I've tried 3 times using dslreports simple mobile test. 1MB and got
~700kb
~800kb

Yeah I'm now getting all over this range.
I am unable to test with PIE for some reason though. Just hangs at "running test"
I bought my S2 yesterday and so far I love it. I came from an HTC Sensation and what a difference! Nevertheless, I must say I was expecting a little bit more out of the data connection. I'm constantly getting 3 -5 MB/s nothing close to what done reviewers were claiming (9-18+) on speedtest.net. I live in Houston and believe to be inside the 42mbps spectrum. Should I be concerned about this?
What kind of speeds is everyone getting?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
There are a lot of factors that make up your realized data speeds. Being in a 42mbps coverage area means you have the potential to see the highest data speeds offered by T-Mobile. However the actual performance you experience is based on amount of back haul (fiber optic connectivity) coming into the cell site you are connected to and how much demand is on that tower at any given time. I work in a densely populated 42mbps coverage area in central Maryland where the tower I connect to at work also serves two neighboring Colleges. Ever since school went back in session I have been getting ~3mbps data speeds on average during the day. A week ago T-Mobile saw the spike in data demand on that site and brought more back haul into the cell site. Now I get ~15mbps regularly. Now as more people start to use data on that tower it will start to go down again and at some point in the future if the demand gets high enough and speeds slow down enough T-Mobile will presumably have to bring in more back haul to keep up with the demand.
What you can do is call T-Mobile Customer Care and let them know where you are experiencing the slower speeds and they can forward it over to the engineering team. If there is enough demand on that site they will add it to their list of sites to be back hauled.
Your issue is not your phone and most likely not even your coverage it is probably just a cell site that needs more pipe coming into it to serve the demand in that area.
Hope that helps.
Yes it does help, and thanks for clearing this up for me. Undoubtedly, this is the "elephant in the room" spec although the processor isn't bad either. Time to make some phone calls.
Appreciate it mate!

Honestly if you aren't seeing at least 6-8Mbps during peak usage times the cell site you are on does NOT have dual cell HSPA deployed on it.
I'm in SW Houston. Both my ex-Vibrant and my TMO Galaxy Tab 7 had between just sub-par and plain horrible (read: 4.5 Mbps ... 160kbps) performance. Same results both home and work (inner SW and inner NW respectively).
My SGS II gets about twice or three times as fast (8-10 MBPS, peaks at 14Mbps) at work (NW Houston) but still bad on SW.
Now, here is the kicker: Sometime last week when I got the SGSII I confirmed what I had suspected... The speed test servers we have here (comcast, other) either have very low bandwidth or are bogged down.
So, go and pick another server. I have tried a couple in KY, Lawrence KS and my favorite at Cincinnati OH (that one as given me up to 14Mbps at NW Houston), as well as some random others.
Some conclusions I have to come based on my experiences:
SGSII has a better radio than the SGS (the least they could do?)
Using your local/nearest speedtest.net server is not always optimal.
All Galaxyes (y?) I own are super sensitive when running a speed test. Its 3D orientation as well as where your hand* and even yourself are, make major differences. Try and see while running a test to see numbers change and find your perfect "position".

[*] Brings to memory -respectfully- Mr. Jobs' famous response: "You are holding it wrong."
I have had the T-Mo-SGS2 for a while using just Wi-Fi and VoIP. I just signed up for the 30$ a month plan. Here is what I am seeing @ my desk, indoors near Chicago. I was quite impressed, it was faster than what I was seeing with Verizon 4G on a MiFi I was borrowing in LA. Not sure about the upload, I have seen it as high as 4-5Mbps but it is pretty inconsistent. Down has been consistently 10-12Mbps +. Only had it for a little bit but I guess I am in a sweet spot.
23.23Mbps down & 2Mbps up was the fastest down speed after <10 speed tests
(was going to post a screenshot but I only have 6 posts after 8 years)
For testing I will run 2 different speedtest apps for data transfer speed, then I will use the stock web browser to test how long loading a full webpage takes.

I performed all of the 3g speedtests using the leaked android 2.34 EH17.
As you can see the results that I was able to achieve are really good.
I am located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the 3g speeds over here
are usually horrible, but in this particular area I was able to get great results.
I will be performing another set of data testing near Baker, La.
Over there the 3g speeds are slow and unstable, and although 4g is
available in that area I will be testing as far as possible from the 4g tower to
find out which modem can perform the best with very low 4g signal.
Inspired by HafizNafes, I decided to try a few of these where I live as well, in Raleigh. Sadly, 4G is not available at my house. Using Airave for 3G tests, so included a WiFi to show speeds for comparison.

Looks to me like you are having serious problems with your data speeds.
Any thing less than 600 kbps on sprint network is not good.
I also have problems where I live but at least I am able to use 4g here in baker louisiana.

Unfortunately here in Greenville, SC, those data speeds are a fact of life, best I can tell. I would very much like to see someone else here in Gville post some data results that show different, but I dont know anyone personally here that has a sprint phone. It does not seem to matter what rom, modem, tweaks i use, those are the speeds I get. These test mirror tests I did about 2 months ago as well. Oh, and an added bonus, our sprint stores here are abysmal, staffed by idiots, and I have to pay 10 dollars a month for 4g that it is not available anywhere in the entire state. All this talk about not having a data cap or throttling on the sprint network is irrelevant for me, because without 4g and with 3g speeds like that, I could never reach a cap even if one existed. At least here, Sprint is a massive joke on all fronts, and I wish I had never signed a contract with them.
I think that sprint is broke and they cannot afford to serve reliable high speed data to all of their customers. Next time I complain to them im going to make sure I tell them that.
I dont know why would sprint spend $6 billion to start selling iphones when they could have used that money to go all over the country fixing their 3g. But they keep denying that something is wrong with their 3g and telling customers to make sure that their prl is updated, which means nothing if sprint acually had data towers in our areas.
Any data for the EI22 modem?
In the same area I pulled 2.2 mbps download and 1.0 mbps upload using the new modem.
but it was during the morning at about 8am.

I have a motorola photon now and 3g speeds in my home area are still less than 150kbps.
sprint should lower are bills until they can get their stuff fixed. Its not fair that we have to pay more than t-mobile users with such horiffic service.
however in downtown my 3g speeds are incredible. the same can be said for 4g.

i'm sorry, but mine are fantastic..
Just used the speedtest.net app and on wifi I got 22.58mbps down/2.43 mbps up and on 4G I got 76.62mbps down/34.97 mbps up. These were taken at my house and I never use wifi at home because why would I (still have unlimited data plan). And I live in Alabama!
I get about 12.3Mpbs at my house on LTE. Speeds arent really what concerns me because they'll always fluctuate depending on your location.
What I'm liking on this phone is how good the radios are. It seems to always have a solid signal and doesnt drop hardly at all.
I got 118Mbps with the download booster on the other day while downloading some language packs... 100mbps on wireless and 18mpbs on LTE.
The radios in this phone are excellent IMO.
My internet hovers around 84/86 mbps, I don't think my router support that speed so it hovers around 46/44 mbps. I have Verizon Fios 75/75. As for LTE it's around 35/15 in my area (D.C.).
On wifi i saw 19.30 up/down 25ms latency; on mobile 9.8 up/23 down with 58ms latency
