Hello and Good day (again),
I'm very sorry for multi-posting but I would just like to ask if there is any way of flashing the kernel without using fastboot?!, my phones bootloader is unlocked but my network carrier is locked, that's why I can't access fastboot.
Specifications:
Model: Xperia Play R800at
Carrier: AT&T
Rooted: Yes
Recovery: CWM
Bootloader Status: Unlocked (Using Testpoint Method)
ROM: Stock ROM (Xperia Play_3.0.1.B.0.270_ATT.ftf)

You can also Flash Kernels via Flash Mode in FlashTool. You can find Kernels in FTF format here:
[R800][Depository]FTF Kernels for the Xperia Play
You unlocked you phone's Bootloader with the Test Point Method right?

Wooh! A very big thanks to you bro . But is there a more updated version of Lupus Kernel? I think there's a V13 now for that one
Yes that is right, I unlocked it using Test Point Method . And I'm also curious about this, if your bootloader is unlocked, then does that also mean that your bootloader is unlocked even if you changed your ROM?
And I'm also thinking of installing ICS if possible .

Yea, Version 13 of lupus Kernel its right their, its under the Jellybean Section(as its only works for JB ROMs).
Yes your Bootloader is Unlock permanently. You can change ROMs, Kernels and even go back to the Stock ROM and your Bootloader will stay Unlocked.
EDIT:
ICS is Possible, you can actually go up to JB and everything works on it.

You can find a lot of ROMs under the Android Development section of the Xperia Play Sub-Forum here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-play/development
My Personal favorite JB ROMs are this ones(if you want to try them out):
[ROM][GSM+CDMA][Play+Neo L]Slimbean 5.1.1[MULTIBOOT][02-03-2014]
[ROM][GSM][CDMA][CM10][MULTIBOOT][NEOL+PLAY]Racing SPEED EDITION EOL[12/02/2014]
If you really are looking for the best gaming performance then I recommend sticking to Gingerbread.
And yes there is a Kitkat ROM but a lot of things don't work on it yet like WiFi and the Camera.

Oh I see, but my problem on Gingerbread is that Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI, Minecraft and many other games are not supported xD, and Nova Launcher is not also supported so I'm thinking of reverting to a higher firmware . And I would also like to ask if what's the 720p and 480p on Lupus Kernel?!, does that mean 480=Partial and 720=Full?
I would also like to apologize for my long and tedious questions .

Yea, you will probably need to try out different ROMs to see which one fits your needs the best. The 720p and 480p are the camera resolutions, if you use a 480p Kernel you will get more Free RAM.
I have no problem answering your questions, just remember to click on the "Thanks" button but you can probably find the answer faster if you search instead of waiting for some one to reply. There is even a search bar if you only want to search on this Thread(on the right side).

Oh I see, meaning 720p eats more RAM than the 480p? If so then I think I'll go with 480p . Yep, I always give proper credits to the one's that help me , I would also like to thank you rather than just hit the Thanks button . And a few last questions, is it best to use Lupus Kernel or Turbo on a JB ROM? And I've seen this:
* Flash FTF 62 or 79,if already have it,no need.
Does that mean that I have to find a suitable .62 or .79 Stock ROM for my device since I'm on .270 or should I should just flash the Kernel and ROM directly?

Yes, 720p eats more RAM then 480p. Your welcome . I don't know which one is best (and technically asking whats the best ROM/Kernel is not allowed in XDA), I mostly used Lupus Kernel but Turbo Kernel does have the ability to multiboot so its kind of a preference thing.
Oh, I just noticed you have the the R800at which means your phone is CDMA. I really cant help you much with this since I know very little when it comes to the CDMA model of the Xperia Play. Your going to have to do some research. What I know is that there should be no problem with the Kernels, what you need to look for is that the ROM you want to install on your Phone is made for the CDMA model of the Xperia Play(it usually states it on the tittle).

Got CM9 but not a ftf file!?!
I need a file FlashTool can use with CM9 ICS for the R800at. Unable to get bootloader to unlock. Got SIM unlocked (via AT&T - told them it was unsupported now that ICS is off the table, they caved even though I have a contract).
Was able to flash and root. Still no luck with the boot loader. CW does not support the Play and have not figured out a way around AT&T's death hold on the boot loader.
Thanks for any help you can give.

cm9 will not work on a locked bootloader, it's impossible since you have to flash a kernel. You'll need to pay to get your bootloader unlocked to install ANY kind of ics rom
the DarkForest Rom is a not bad for AOSP
You can use Gin2ICS for the ICS look and feel. I haven't tried it though.

Flashing a stock ftf also flashes the included kernel. If you're still struggling with video tutorials or guides then someone else will have to assist as I'm not here to spoon feed for the reason stated in the second line of my guide.

heres my screenshot.
BTW if there is someone still a noob like me in flashing heres the simplest vid that i found and it work for me, you should have all drivers installed on your pc
do not release the back button until flashing is finished and not all back button are on the right side as seen on flashtool

Hey everyone, so I've had my Xperia Arc for nearly 2 years and it's the same android (2.3.4). It's recently started to lag like crazy and freeze a lot so I've been thinking about upgrading to a better rom. I've used the eroot method with one click to root it.I've got superuser access.
Will I able be able to upgrade straight to Xperia Ultimate HD?
I've been reading tutorials and youtubing for hours but it's still going over my head. Any simple written instructions or answers would help.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Yes, kernel is a must. Without the kernel, your phone won't run properly.
As for the Lupus kernel, it is a custom kernel and so should be flashed via fastboot, if you have unlocked your bootloader beforehand.

Walkman was never officially included in 2011 Xperia devices. But I see more devs making ports for ICS. As for GB and ICS, they both have advantages and disadvantages. GB favors performance but lacks many features. ICS has more features but lags more than GB.

I see, thanks for that. My phone has recently started lag quite badly but that may be because i have 2500 songs on my sd card. Use it as a music player as much as a phone, which is a shame then that the music player (including apps on the market) are pretty crap.

You should try the ROM and kernel combinations yourself. Go to the development section, read a few of the ROM threads and try them out. Since everyone has different requirements for the ROM, there is no 'best ROM' out there that everyone can agree on.
If you're not sure about the instructions here, search on Google instead. They should have newbie guides there.

You do not need root to install custom firmware. Just flash the appropriate kernel for your rom then boot into cwm and flash rom.

Just get out. People who ask questions in General section should be instantly banned, that kind of retarded behavior creates chaos and it's a cancer of xda forums. People who replies with these kind of answers in a thread about a guy who simply wants someone to refer him to a simple recommended root, kernel flash and custom rom guide, should be instantly banned. Look at the other two answers and maybe you have somewhat of an idea of how to send a reply with a proper answer. What's so wrong about posting this in a General section about Xperia Arc? Please refer me to the rules regarding that, if so, then i have clearly missed something.

Hi bro !
- First, give your phone a good full charge and let's go !
- If your bootloader is unlocked flash Lupus v16, you'll find it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867265
In this kernel, CWM is included.
- Then download an ICS ROM (ICS needed with this kernel). There is a huge number of ROM on DEV section, just download the one you prefer ! (Personally, I recommend you jader13254's one  --> look at my signature :good: You'll find it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920207)
- Put the zip on your SD card and boot into CWM (by pressing VOL DOWN during boot)
- Do full wipes (data + factory reset + format /system + battery stats)
- Install the ROM (install zip --> Choose from SD card --> ROM.zip)
- Reboot twice !
And enjoy your BRAND NEW PHONE !!!

THANK you so much!
I followed exactly what you wrote, but instead of flashing Lupus v16 i went with the Vengeance kernel and the ROM you recommended. It works wonders, thanks again

You're welcome mate ! :highfive:
There are many ROM, test them and choose the one you prefer (Viper, Ultimate HD, ...) !
Vengeance kernel is also good :good: ! Go and see TopperBG's guide for Ultimate HD recommended kernel, here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163894 !
Your smartphone is REBORN, isn't it ?

Stock ICS was so laggy, i couldn't stand it anymore. Now it feels like a whole new phone, love it But which ROM would you personally recommend between Viper and Ultimate HD? I've tested them both and it's very hard to pick one :/
Up to you, if my memory is correct viper is more customisable, uhd gives better performance ( subjective) but theyre both great.
And btw, yeah these threads go in Q&A, not the general section...

What's so wrong about posting this in a General section about Xperia Arc?

Everything. What's the point in having a separate sections for different kinds of threads when people just don't give a **** about this? When I want to help people I go to Q&A and when I need a custom kernel I go to Development section, this feels logical. People who can't keep their posts in the right place create a mess which is frustrating and gives moderators extra work. If you keep your milk in a drawer and bread in a refrigerator then good luck with your life.

I see your point, well excuse me then. Honestly i didn't even see that section, even though it's right below General. I just registered and was in a hurry and I just picked the a section that made most sense to post in apart from Q&A. On top of that, i'm new here as well, i dont know my way around yet, of what's allowed and what's not allowed apart from the rules. But that's probably not an excuse here. Actually, sometimes i keep both in the refrigerator and my life is going pretty well.

Well, it's up to you ! Personally, I'm using Ultimate HD and I love this ROM ! Viper is also good !
Choose the one you prefer ! In my opinion, use Ultimate HD for performance and Viper for UI and personalization !
And if you're tired of one of them, change it to the other !

Ported!!
If you want a pure stock based Android, try to flash CM10.1 for your Arc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147958
Flash the kernel (boot.img) using Flashtool or you can also use this for flashing kernels and unlocking/relocking bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
HEY! just forgot something to tell you before you flash custom roms:
Before trying to use any roms, flash this Arc S firmware: https://hotfile.com/dl/167361348/43349db/LT18i_4.1.B.0.587_(1254-2716).ftf.html
to your device using Flashtool.
-It's safe!
-It will increase your System ROM memory to enable installation of JB roms completely.
-EDIT-
Here's a screenshot that will help you to flash the ArcS firmware pack, give credits to him

Mmmm... as of now the Build0722: http://legacyxperia.basketbuild.com/index.php?dir=main/cm10.1/anzu/nightlies/
Is just fine, no lags and the bug of random reboots have been fixed (Tested on my friend's Arc) It's much better if you'll partitioned your SD card and have a Link2SD on it
-EDIT-
ICS and JB 4.1 is ALOT stable than the JB 4.2 right now cause some parts of camera is not partially working correctly in 4.2 (Sorry I forgot to told u bout that)
Here you can try FreeXperiaProject's CM10 for Anzu: http://www.freexperiaproject.com/
Stable enough for daily use but I think FM Radio is still not working there (Correct me if I'm wrong, not sure about it)
is it possible to do this on the Xperia Arc S?
I mean stock roms of sony of course, no need for custom roms.
is this done by booting from the SD card?
Thanks for the support!
It's not possible to do so. Booting can be done from the SD Card but both firmwares use different kernels, so unless you can make GB run on an ICS kernel it will be nigh impossible to do it, not to mention the time needed to make it happen.

But why do you insist on using GB? Most JB and KK ROMs are stable enough for daily use, and some ICS ROMs to a certain extent.

If I am not mistaken, LuPuS ICS kernel can boot both GB and ICS.

I want to test my apps on a single device that has GB and ICS rather than getting and older device with GB.

Is there a way to dual boot both then with that kernel? A guide by someone who did it maybe?

I am not familiar with that, you can try looking around on the forum. If there isn't anything, then no one has tried yet. I don't know myself, how it is supposed to work.

well it needs some work to make that thing possible on lupus gb/ics
you need to make a muflti boot kernel using cosmicdan source and some thing from here and there and using lupus gb/ics as your zimage
im not familiar with kernel things but im sure that it's easier than before because of turbo kernel (the hard thing is finished before)
also you can port turbo kernel to arc
that is alittle easier because comsicdan has done some of the optimizations for arc before
but in turbo kernel gb support in not finished but you can test your apps with it atleast
