[Q] Help me out with my Xperia Arc :/ - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, i want to root, flash a custom kernel and install a custom rom on my Xperia Arc. So far i have only unlocked the bootloader. Can someone refer me to threads of where i can proceed with root, flash a custom kernel and install a custom rom, that would be so great. I get so confused with all these threads and instructions.
Also if someone out here with a Arc / Arc S could give me some advice of good kernels and roms for my device that would also be great. Thanks.

You should try the ROM and kernel combinations yourself. Go to the development section, read a few of the ROM threads and try them out. Since everyone has different requirements for the ROM, there is no 'best ROM' out there that everyone can agree on.
If you're not sure about the instructions here, search on Google instead. They should have newbie guides there.

You do not need root to install custom firmware. Just flash the appropriate kernel for your rom then boot into cwm and flash rom.

Just get out. People who ask questions in General section should be instantly banned, that kind of retarded behavior creates chaos and it's a cancer of xda forums. Actual answer: read sticky threads, you will find there everything you need and if you have problems with following guides then there is no hope for you just buy an iphone.

Just get out. People who replies with these kind of answers in a thread about a guy who simply wants someone to refer him to a simple recommended root, kernel flash and custom rom guide, should be instantly banned. Look at the other two answers and maybe you have somewhat of an idea of how to send a reply with a proper answer. What's so wrong about posting this in a General section about Xperia Arc? Please refer me to the rules regarding that, if so, then i have clearly missed something.
Well i can't really blame you, i guess it's that time of the month, right?

Hi bro !
- First, give your phone a good full charge and let's go !
- If your bootloader is unlocked flash Lupus v16, you'll find it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867265
In this kernel, CWM is included.
- Then download an ICS ROM (ICS needed with this kernel). There is a huge number of ROM on DEV section, just download the one you prefer ! (Personally, I recommend you jader13254's one  --> look at my signature :good: You'll find it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920207)
- Put the zip on your SD card and boot into CWM (by pressing VOL DOWN during boot)
- Do full wipes (data + factory reset + format /system + battery stats)
- Install the ROM (install zip --> Choose from SD card --> ROM.zip)
- Reboot twice !
And enjoy your BRAND NEW PHONE !!!
Hope I helped you !

Stock ICS was so laggy, i couldn't stand it anymore. Now it feels like a whole new phone, love it But which ROM would you personally recommend between Viper and Ultimate HD? I've tested them both and it's very hard to pick one :/

Up to you, if my memory is correct viper is more customisable, uhd gives better performance ( subjective) but theyre both great.
And btw, yeah these threads go in Q&A, not the general section...

Everything. What's the point in having a separate sections for different kinds of threads when people just don't give a **** about this? When I want to help people I go to Q&A and when I need a custom kernel I go to Development section, this feels logical. People who can't keep their posts in the right place create a mess which is frustrating and gives moderators extra work. If you keep your milk in a drawer and bread in a refrigerator then good luck with your life.

I see your point, well excuse me then. Honestly i didn't even see that section, even though it's right below General. I just registered and was in a hurry and I just picked the a section that made most sense to post in apart from Q&A. On top of that, i'm new here as well, i dont know my way around yet, of what's allowed and what's not allowed apart from the rules. But that's probably not an excuse here. Actually, sometimes i keep both in the refrigerator and my life is going pretty well.

If you want a pure stock based Android, try to flash CM10.1 for your Arc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147958
Flash the kernel (boot.img) using Flashtool or you can also use this for flashing kernels and unlocking/relocking bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
HEY! just forgot something to tell you before you flash custom roms:
Before trying to use any roms, flash this Arc S firmware: https://hotfile.com/dl/167361348/43349db/LT18i_4.1.B.0.587_(1254-2716).ftf.html
to your device using Flashtool.
-It's safe!
-It will increase your System ROM memory to enable installation of JB roms completely.
-EDIT-
Here's a screenshot that will help you to flash the ArcS firmware pack, give credits to him

Mmmm... as of now the Build0722: http://legacyxperia.basketbuild.com/index.php?dir=main/cm10.1/anzu/nightlies/
Is just fine, no lags and the bug of random reboots have been fixed (Tested on my friend's Arc) It's much better if you'll partitioned your SD card and have a Link2SD on it
-EDIT-
ICS and JB 4.1 is ALOT stable than the JB 4.2 right now cause some parts of camera is not partially working correctly in 4.2 (Sorry I forgot to told u bout that)
Here you can try FreeXperiaProject's CM10 for Anzu: http://www.freexperiaproject.com/
Stable enough for daily use but I think FM Radio is still not working there (Correct me if I'm wrong, not sure about it)

[GUIDE] R800x owners - You got Custom ROM questions? I've got Answers!

xda-developers is a great site for learning all sorts of tricks and tips. However, sometimes it's been excruciating trying to get straight answers to what should be simple questions. You can get lost for hours or days in some of these threads, and still not be certain of the answer. And some people just can't seem to resist giving a n00b a hard time instead of a helpful hand.
Hopefully, this short guide will lessen someone's pain a bit. This guide is intended for use primarily by those of us who own a Verizon Xperia Play, model R800x.
Basic terminology you should know before using this guide:
1. What is Root, and why should/shouldn't I do it?
2. What is a locked Bootloader?
3. Can I unlock my bootloader, and do I have to in order to customize my R800x?
4. What is a kernel?
5. What is a Custom Recovery?
6. What is a Nandroid?
7. What is a ROM?
Use Wikipedia or Google to get the answer to those basics before moving on. You need to understand the whys and wherefores before going further.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK - You're back, so hopefully you have a better understanding of what we'll be doing from here on out. This guide is intended for those of us who for one reason (money) or another (caution, anxiety or fear) choose not to unlock the bootloader but still want to do some customization. I'm going to gather together the threads you need to perform the following tasks:
1. Root the R800x - [HOW-TO] Root Phones w/ Android v2.2.x-2.3.x (zergRush Method)
2. Install a Custom Recovery - The easiest method is found here: [APP]/[RECOVERY] Auto-Installer 5.0.2.7-nAa-r2 (Locked/Unlocked Bootloader) 10/1/12 That's an apk you install on your phone and run to install CWM to the \system folder. No cable or PC needed!
3. Make a Nandroid backup - Turn off your phone. When you see the words Sony Ericsson, repeatedly push the volume down button to enter Clockworks Custom Recovery. Using the volume down button, highlight Backup and Restore. Use the Home key to select it. Use Home again to select Backup. When it finishes, congratulate yourself on making your first Nandroid Backup! Reboot your phone to get out of CWM.
4. Choose and install an alternate ROM The following ROMs have been tested by me and have been shown to work. Each of them is available as a Nandroid, so you will copy them to your SD Card in \clockwork\backup and then use CWM's Backup and Restore menu to restore them to your phone.Follow the directions as provided by each thread. NOTE: In most cases, these ROMs may be used on either locked or unlocked bootloaders.
- GBTweaked0 - the Basic Gingerbread stock ROM, debloaded and tweaked out with the Icecream Sandwich look.
-R800x with UK Firmware - 2 links here and both work. Verizon 2.3.3 Timescape works as is. UK firmware needs a little extra effort to enable the hardware keys Tutorial Fix R800X UK nandroid Back,Home,Menu, and Search buttons and the wifi which can be downloaded from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?rps86s1qxbbe6vo
-UPDATE For the button fix above, I found that if you follow those instructions, your buttons for the gamepad stop working. Follow the tutorial but insert the lines above the line that says "# KEY_UP, KEY_LEFT, KEY_RIGHT, KEY_DOWN" instead. This lets both the front buttons and all the gamepad buttons work properly. (See my post in the tutorial for the total script.)
-UPDATE: Hogwarts has added another customized ROM called COLA just for our R800x with the locked bootloader. When Hogwarts says it's the smallest and fastest ROM currently available, he's not kidding! This is about as bare minimum as you can get, lean and mean. Interested? Check out his post for COLA.
-UPDATE XperianceIT has posted up another customized ROM, a variation based on Hogwarts COLA. He calls it IT-ROM
-UPDATE From KeiranFTW comes Darkforest CDMA Rom (3.0.5) - [ROM] Darkforest ROM 3.0.5 UPDATE | GSM 2.3.4/.62 | CDMA 2.3.3/.145 [WIP]
5. Return to Stock - Download Flashtool from here: Flashtool-0.6.8.0-windows.exe and the stock ROM ftf from here: R800x 2.3.3 Full 3.0.1.E.0.88 FTF
Please be sure to READ AND FOLLOW the instructions provided on each of those threads. I bear absolutely NO RESPONSIBILITY if you do something to damage your phone.
NONE of these programs or solutions are my own work. All I have done is hunted down and tested these different links. All credit goes to each thread reference's OP and their respective affiliates. SOME of the people to be thanked are: DooMLorD, PaxChristos, KeiranFTW, Chevyowner, 216Monster, 007shark, odst0016, Leraeniesh, Androxyde, CrimsonSentinel13, Hogwarts, pvyParts the ICX Developers, and the Dark Forest Developers. Oh yeah, Sony (Ericsson) for making the phone, and Verizon for challenging all the devs creativity! If I've missed anyone, it's because I have a lousy memory and not because I wanted to shaft them from the glory they so richly deserve.
I hope this helps someone out. I sure could have used this post myself!

Very good thread! I wish this was here when i started out looking for answers. Hey if you want you can add a link to my thread on how to change the carrier name for the r800x. That way even after flashing to a custom ROM, your not stuck with "Verizon Wireless" in your notification pulldown. The link is in my signature.
Thanks for the info.

If you dont mind please add my Cola rom to this list of R800X roms

[HELP THREAD][XPERIA S, ACRO S & ION]Ask any question. NOOB friendly

There are a lot of current users of the Xperia S/Acro S/ Sola and a lot of new users coming through here aswell. There are also a lot of questions being asked time and time again, aswell as a lot of new users being flamed and/or trolled for asking a simple question. This is filling up our Q&A and Development forums with junk which doesn't need to be there.
Instead, just point them to this thread to get all the help they require, which in turn, lessens the clutter of the forums aswell.
If you're reading this and you're a new user to XDA, I suggest you read the XDA New User Guide by mf2112, as it contains all the information you'll need to have a happy and productive time across the whole of XDA.
And please be sure to read A Note From The Moderators and WHAT BELONGS IN DEVELOPMENT aswell.
Post #2 will include the rules which I'm putting in place for this thread, which I expect you all to abide to.
It may also include an FAQ of questions which get asked fairly often, yet don't have a specific thread to find the answer. (I'm still deciding on this idea yet though). It will also include some important links for you all to check out.
In post #3 you'll find the links to different ROMs and kernels for the Xperia S. Links provided by Felimenta97.
ASK ANY RELATED QUESTION HERE,bootloader, drivers, how to root etc...... You will either get an answer here or will be given the best thread for you to go to so you can get your answer.
Even if you find your answer from one of the links provided, please come back here and look through the other threads, as you may learn something else you didn't know.
No abuse towards noobs or silly questions is tolerated here!
This is a joint project to help us all out. Special thanks to Felimenta97 for being a part of this and providing all the links in post #3.
Special thanks to neectron for also being a part of this thread and helping out those who have questions about the Xperia Sola.
Special thanks to Spectre51 for also being a part of the help available in this thread.
Thanks to all of our developers and people who created those amazing threads to help us out and thanks to everyone who reads this thread
If this post has helped you, please click the "Thanks" button rather than actually saying thanks all the time. It reduces clutter
If there's any links that I missed which you think should be included, please let me know and tell me why you think it should be posted.
I will also be requesting thread maintenance as and when it is needed to remove any SPAM comments etc.
Please make sure you have read the whole of the first post before continuing to read this.
Whilst posting in this thread, please remember that the Forum Rules (post 2) apply as always.
*No calling anyone a noob
*No making fun of someone's genuine question
*No swearing - even using *'s or other symbols is still swearing, so don't do it
*No posting useless comments/off topic comments
*No posts saying "Thanks" (I won't be so harsh if you actually click the "Thanks" button aswell")
If you break these rules, I will contact our FSMs to get the comments removed.
You may think that these rules are a little bit strict, but this thread is aimed at being as useful as possible to all of us, so I'm sure we'd all prefer it if this thread was kept as tidy as possible.

Hi,
The xperia sspeed kernel v6 isn't guaranteed to work on stock ROMs, even though it does work with some.
If you're able to boot into recovery, flash the Advanced Stock ICS Kernel linked in this thread and it should work fine for you.

To use Sony programs again (not including MEDIA GO) you would have to relock your bootloader. But you can download the firmware you want and use Flashtool to flash it on your phone.
I will add later a link to a thread with the stock firmware.

I just flashed Advanced Stock Kernel on my Xperia S today, after I had a problem 'cause I flashed DooMKernel over ICS. I was wondering if the advanced stock kernel was pre rooted, 'cause it came with super user installed, but isn't giving root access or super user permission to any apps (including busybox) infact, after I installed busybox, random pop ups kept saying that root access was being denied to various apps. (I had Titanium Backup*Root and busybox installed) I'm really new to all of this, and would appreciate any help at all
Oh and also, Juice Defender detected a root and Apex launcher now allows me to add widgets from the app drawer, which required root access, if I'm not wrong. I'm wondering if I went wrong somewhere..
Thanks again
Oh god, it's all on and off, I don't know what's happening.

Try opening the superuser app to see what it says. Also, I recommend.SuperSU.

It says allowed in the app, but the logs keep saying denied. It's not giving root access to any apps. I don't know what's happening. Did I not flash it properly?

I don't know, then. Try installing SuperSU, it may do the job, I dunno...

I'd suggest installing Root Checker to make sure whether you are intact rooted or not.
If it says you're not rooted, then simply root your device and everything will be fine.
If it says you are rooted, there may possibly be something wrong with permissions.

Yeah, I tried Root Checker and it says that it's not intact. Also, the Apex launcher thing isn't working anymore (Adding widgets from the drawer, which needs root access)
But in Super User it says root permission granted to RootChecker and busybox, but like I said, the logs keep saying denied. So I'm not sure
I'd be really grateful if you can point me in the direction of a way to root my phone. I thought advanced stock kernel is rooted. Should I Flash KA S Speed kernel and flash Stock kernel again? I'm sorry if I sound stupid, this is my first Android...

thank you bro
one more thing
is this rom compatible with my lt18a and is it better than the stcok android 4
i dont have an idea of the rom u have linked up, but if you want any recommended rom in XDA dev section go for JJ hybrid or Xperia pureness rom or jelly sandwich its becuase its supported here and you can find all support you need int respective rom threads.
speaking of diffrences from your stock rom these are higly tweaked more fast and stable roms . just go through the OP of each rom for thier features and you will know what im saying.
and if your bootloader is unlocked use LUpus or Archnight kernels with these roms to tweak battery and performance or ur arc s.

[Q] Best Custom Rom For Xperia Arc LT15i

Hi, i have an Xperia LT15i and i'd like to know what is the best custom rom around here for my device. I see this one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786871 , it is stable?? If i install this rom, i have to install anything else(tweeks,root,etc..)??
My device have the bootloader unlocked.
One more question, how do i install permanently the CWM to enter in the recovery boot menu?
Sorry about the questions, its a noob talking here , and sorry about my english...
Being a noob doesn't mean you can't search or read, otherwise you might have seen this question has been asked many times. Click the first link in my sig too.

i agree with u but i love Jellybean ( original , not combo between Jelly and ICS).
Any ROM with Paranoid settings which allow you to set dpi for single apps is awesome. I have compiled paranoid android 2.55 and put link in thread in dev section of you wanna try. Camps is also pretty awesome but my phone got really sluggish with that so I use regular PA.

If You are looking for GB based Roms then X-Gamer v1.6, this will give you an Internal Mem of 355MB, and RAM of nearly 240MB after installation and its stable too. If ICS based Roms then JelleySandwich 7.4. its stable (by stable i mean after installation everything works).
The above Roms i have tested it on LT15i with LB though.
new rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168609
that new one is beautiful:good:
Cm10 based ROM: RacingBean v3.0 ! Very very Fast and stable ! :good:
We're not allowed to ask this kind of questions. Every rom is good. But it depends on ones needings.
Gb rom is always preferred if u want smoothness.
For interface you must try ics or jb..
Press thanks if I helped.

I just tried using SmartXperia ROM with KTG Kernel on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748635&highlight=keyboard
Some said it was the most battery efficient ROM, but I tried it because of it's simple instruction and low risk
So far its working fine on my LT15 xperia with minor bugs

Flashing Kernel

Hello and Good day (again),
I'm very sorry for multi-posting but I would just like to ask if there is any way of flashing the kernel without using fastboot?!, my phones bootloader is unlocked but my network carrier is locked, that's why I can't access fastboot.
Specifications:
Model: Xperia Play R800at
Carrier: AT&T
Rooted: Yes
Recovery: CWM
Bootloader Status: Unlocked (Using Testpoint Method)
ROM: Stock ROM (Xperia Play_3.0.1.B.0.270_ATT.ftf)

You can also Flash Kernels via Flash Mode in FlashTool. You can find Kernels in FTF format here:

You unlocked you phone's Bootloader with the Test Point Method right?

Wooh! A very big thanks to you bro . But is there a more updated version of Lupus Kernel? I think there's a V13 now for that one
Yes that is right, I unlocked it using Test Point Method . And I'm also curious about this, if your bootloader is unlocked, then does that also mean that your bootloader is unlocked even if you changed your ROM?
And I'm also thinking of installing ICS if possible .

Yea, Version 13 of lupus Kernel its right their, its under the Jellybean Section(as its only works for JB ROMs).
Yes your Bootloader is Unlock permanently. You can change ROMs, Kernels and even go back to the Stock ROM and your Bootloader will stay Unlocked.
EDIT:
ICS is Possible, you can actually go up to JB and everything works on it.

You can find a lot of ROMs under the Android Development section of the Xperia Play Sub-Forum here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-play/development
My Personal favorite JB ROMs are this ones(if you want to try them out):
[ROM][GSM+CDMA][Play+Neo L]Slimbean 5.1.1[MULTIBOOT][02-03-2014]
[ROM][GSM][CDMA][CM10][MULTIBOOT][NEOL+PLAY]Racing SPEED EDITION EOL[12/02/2014]
If you really are looking for the best gaming performance then I recommend sticking to Gingerbread.
And yes there is a Kitkat ROM but a lot of things don't work on it yet like WiFi and the Camera.

Oh I see, but my problem on Gingerbread is that Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI, Minecraft and many other games are not supported xD, and Nova Launcher is not also supported so I'm thinking of reverting to a higher firmware . And I would also like to ask if what's the 720p and 480p on Lupus Kernel?!, does that mean 480=Partial and 720=Full?
I would also like to apologize for my long and tedious questions .

Yea, you will probably need to try out different ROMs to see which one fits your needs the best. The 720p and 480p are the camera resolutions, if you use a 480p Kernel you will get more Free RAM.
I have no problem answering your questions, just remember to click on the "Thanks" button but you can probably find the answer faster if you search instead of waiting for some one to reply. There is even a search bar if you only want to search on this Thread(on the right side).

Oh I see, meaning 720p eats more RAM than the 480p? If so then I think I'll go with 480p . Yep, I always give proper credits to the one's that help me , I would also like to thank you rather than just hit the Thanks button . And a few last questions, is it best to use Lupus Kernel or Turbo on a JB ROM? And I've seen this:
* Flash FTF 62 or 79,if already have it,no need.
Does that mean that I have to find a suitable .62 or .79 Stock ROM for my device since I'm on .270 or should I should just flash the Kernel and ROM directly?

Yes, 720p eats more RAM then 480p. Your welcome . I don't know which one is best (and technically asking whats the best ROM/Kernel is not allowed in XDA), I mostly used Lupus Kernel but Turbo Kernel does have the ability to multiboot so its kind of a preference thing.
Oh, I just noticed you have the the R800at which means your phone is CDMA. I really cant help you much with this since I know very little when it comes to the CDMA model of the Xperia Play. Your going to have to do some research. What I know is that there should be no problem with the Kernels, what you need to look for is that the ROM you want to install on your Phone is made for the CDMA model of the Xperia Play(it usually states it on the tittle).
