Because you're using GB and not ICS, which most mods are based on these days, so update to ICS and try again.

u cant use it on ICS rom, such as Xperia Ultimate HD 2.0 rom.

i have seen videos on how to update via flash tool but its kinda complicated and still have to flash kernels, is there any other way or an easy way to update my arc? sorry bro for i have so many questions and still i have more.
what rom for GB do u suggest i use for my arc?

Flashing a stock ftf also flashes the included kernel. If you're still struggling with video tutorials or guides then someone else will have to assist as I'm not here to spoon feed for the reason stated in the second line of my guide.

at last my perseverance paid off, lots of reading, searching, downloading and bookmarking and trial and error and came to the point that i almost bricked my ARC. i am now on android 4.0.4 BB-77 with Advanced stock kernel, build# .587 running on xperia ultimate HD 2.0
heres my screenshot.

BTW if there is someone still a noob like me in flashing heres the simplest vid that i found and it work for me, you should have all drivers installed on your pc
do not release the back button until flashing is finished and not all back button are on the right side as seen on flashtool

Thanks XperienceD but, try to find rom´s 2.3.7, and in the link that you post only there roms 2.3.4 and 4.0.4, i´ll like use gb 2.3.7 cause 4.0.4 y a lot slower and the consumption of RAM is so high
2.3.4 is the last SE official GB ROM. Most of the Roms are based on that. Only CM 7.2 is GB 2.3.7, but battery drains fast.

I recommend the one in my signature, which is ICS custom ROM. But GB Arconium 8.2 is very good, especially for gaming.
If you want to stay on official, definitely GB.

[SOLVED] Trouble installing Ultimate HD rom for Arc LT15i

Hey, I've had a custom rom on my LT15i before but I thought I might try something new so I downloaded the Xperia Ultimate HD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32375524) and ran it using CWM. The only step of the install I skipped was the custom kernel, because the link in the op post doesn't actually link to a custom kernel, just this empty reserved post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32375524&postcount=4).
My phone is already rooted and unlocked from the first time I installed a custom rom. I'm using CWM version v5.5.0.4 I assume that's what the kernel is?
I took the necessary steps in CWM but the first boot of the rom just freezes with Sony on the screen. So I imagine I'm missing the kernel that was an install step but wasn't actually linked at all? Could someone provide the kernel that goes with this particular rom or one that might work with the rom for an LT15i xperia arc?
Re: [Q] Trouble installing Ultimate HD rom for Arc LT15i
Go browse the dev section for the kernel that's been mentioned or find another stock based one.

Searching in the dev forum for "Xperia Ultimate Basic Kernel" just links back to the thread I started with. How do I know if a particular kernel will work with a particular rom? Do I really just have to pick one at random and hope for the best?

I think I might have solved the problem, I just realised that the rom I was trying to flash was in fact a "mod" (with a similar name) and I'd been trying to flash that rather than the particular rom. Hours of time disappear over such a trivial mistake. Oh well, cheers for all the suggestions, hopefully this works.
Edit: Yep, turns out that's exactly what the problem was, this thread is SOLVED.

[Q] How to go from Cyanogenmod 10.1 to Sony Xpeia Arc S ICS 4.0.4 Stock rom?

Hey guys. I own the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S . I have rooted it and installed cyanogenmod 10.1.
Now the cyanogenmod is nice but it still has a lot of bugs and it lacks in a lot of aspects in comparison to the stock rom.
Now i would like to go back to the stock rom which was ICS 4.0.4
Is it possible to downgrade from 4.2 to 4.0.4 ?
if yes then a complete tutorial would be highly appreciated for my problem . Thanks in advance.
Use flashtool to go back to stock ICS..4.0.4.. You'll need the .587 ftf file.
If you wanna try a custom ICS rom.. Flash an ICS kernel.. Then the rom..
See the stickys and general section.

Advice on updating

Hey everyone, so I've had my Xperia Arc for nearly 2 years and it's the same android (2.3.4). It's recently started to lag like crazy and freeze a lot so I've been thinking about upgrading to a better rom. I've used the eroot method with one click to root it.I've got superuser access.
Will I able be able to upgrade straight to Xperia Ultimate HD?
I've been reading tutorials and youtubing for hours but it's still going over my head. Any simple written instructions or answers would help.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

If I were to install a rom would I need to flash a kernel? As I have already rooted my phone can I just use flashtool to flash lupus kernel?

Yes, kernel is a must. Without the kernel, your phone won't run properly.
As for the Lupus kernel, it is a custom kernel and so should be flashed via fastboot, if you have unlocked your bootloader beforehand.

Not all kernels need unlocked bootloader. You can still flash stock kernels via flashtool with locked bootloader. Only custom kernels like CM kernels need unlocked bootloader to flash.

Okay I'm going mostly by this tutorial - can't post links yet. It's by Jeremy Phan on uTube, whom I believe is a member on this forum.
Will the fact that my 2.3.4 version is rooted matter at all if I'm to upgrade to ice cream sandwich like in the video?

No, since official update to ICS will cause you to lose root. You need to root again after updating.

Thank you for answering my questions, I really appreciate it. Just a final one, if I get cold feet about installing a custom rom is the offical ice cream sandwich decent enough or better than 2.3.4 ginger?
I just really want a better walkman/music player than the standard one.

Walkman was never officially included in 2011 Xperia devices. But I see more devs making ports for ICS. As for GB and ICS, they both have advantages and disadvantages. GB favors performance but lacks many features. ICS has more features but lags more than GB.

I see, thanks for that. My phone has recently started lag quite badly but that may be because i have 2500 songs on my sd card. Use it as a music player as much as a phone, which is a shame then that the music player (including apps on the market) are pretty crap.

Kernel 2in1 [ICS/GB]

Hey guyz, is there any kernel which works for both ics and gb.
There was a lupus version long time ago, but I don't remember the version. If any body know please post here.
Thanks
If I remember correctly, newest ICS Lupus (v15 or v16) can boot both ICS and GB.

If you can confirm? Please, TIA
I don't have the phone at hand right now, being used as temporary backup phone by a relative.
Just try it yourself. You can't really mess up anything. ICS boots definitely on that kernel, GB should, but if it doesn't, you can just flash another kernel/ROM or even stock firmware.

The thing is m not having PC availability, I have to request to my faculty for system access but only for 5-10 mins. So I can't test in that time, cause I can't stay to ics cause of its performance for long time. otherwise I wouldn't have posted this thread if I had PC.

Seems to be lupus v14. In the sticky thread for roms/root/kernels/mods etc. in arc development section (post 3, gb kernels) it's mentioned. I looked into lupus thread and in the changelog for older releases you see v14 that should boot up on ics, cm9 and gb. But I didn't test it myself
Cheers!
Lupus is ics+gb kernel (latest version) u can use both of the firmware and its based roms with this kernel.[emoji3]
So i confirm here that lupus is two in one kernel. Thanks for your response guys.
