Using International SIM in Verizon Note 4? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife wants to upgrade from her Note 2 to a Note 4 but she spends a large amount of time overseas - China and Malaysia. We know that the Note 2 will work overseas (without a SIM card change) to make quick international calls. But if we are going to spend a long time in China and Malaysia she would like to get a local SIM card to temporarily replace her Verizon SIM). Is this possible with the Verizon Note 4?

If you inserted a non Verizon sim card, you can immediately use voice and text. To enable Internet, you have to find out the APN settings of the provider, then change it in the phone under settings - > more networks - > mobile networks - > access point names. Do note that the option to add APN only available if you put in a non-verizon sim card.

Gsm vs lte

I have never used gsm phones so i got this galaxy nexus from google play and i plan to root and flash custom rom with tmobile 4g prepaid plan. my question is:
do i have to enter apn for tmobile prepaid everytime i flash new rom ? or does it work like cdma where u flash any custom rom and it automatically connect to my carrier?
thanks a bunch in advance
Depending on the carrier, APNs will usually load by default just fine off of the SIM card. If the APN doesn't show up, just go into: Settings > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > "menu" > "Reset to default" .
Some carriers (usually MVNO's) require a specific APN that may not automatically set itself. Especially for MMS.
i have att but all i ever do is just put the sim in and it works
unless the apn is different for a prepaid plan from tmo you shouldnt have to do anything else either. my coworker has tmo and he has to call and tell them if he is using windows phone, android or other data....because tmo apparently thinks packets differ
Just put in the sim, it will load the proper settings. Flashing roms won't matter.
Unless T-Mobile pre paid has some weird issue I've not heard about.

You can try to manually select LTE only.
Dial *#197328640#
Then Option 1 UMTS > Option 1 Debug Screen > Option 8 Phone Control > Option 7 Network Control > Option 2 Band Selection > Option 4 LTE Band Preference > Option 5 LTE ALL
Good luck

This is likely because the provider doesn't support enhanced features, or doesn't support enhanced features on your plan. I didn't have the enhanced features available with AT&T, after switching to T-Mobile the Enhanced Features section then became available and I was able to enable voice over wifi and volte.
I can't see Enhanced features... TR Turkcell and Vodafone TR?
There's no thing as "Enhanced Features" in 4.0.2. Once you select Jio as your primary data sim, you can see the option of "Use VoLTE when available" and you just have to turn it ON.
Selected Jio as primary data sim
Even though I selected Jio as a primary Data sim I am not able to see use VoLTE when available
Change Sim Card from 1 to 2 or vice versa...??

Is your default sim for cellular data set as jio sim. Plus checking sim options like data roaming and checking apn settings seems to be the only option, before full wipe and refresh

Using Dual SIM On XT1676

Ok, and advice appreciated.
Have just put a SIM in the second slot in my G5. Am running a Vaya SIM (voice, data, sms) in the actual primary slot and a Telstra (voice only) in the second slot.
If i select the Vaya as primary SIM for all three (voice, data sms) in settings it works fine.
But using an app (Dual SIM Selector) to select what SIM on a call by call basis, it wont send or receive calls on the Telstra SIM and tells me mobile network unavailable for voice calls.
If i go to settings, and set the Telstra SIM as primary for voice, data and sms (needs to be set for all 3 regardless no data plan on that SIM) then i can make and receive calls from the Telstra SIM no probs.
So both SIMS are active, and both SIM slots work with a 3 or 4G card. Have swapped SIM cards in the slots and all as above. SIM cards are good and slots both work.
What i was hoping for with a dual SIM phone was for the Vaya SIM to be active for making / receiving calls, SMS and data as normal, but for the Telstra SIM to be "listening" , be able to receive calls , and make calls when selected on a call by call basis.
Now,being in Australia and having had the 2G network shut down late last year (3 and 4G only now) i am wondering if that has something to do with this??
Anyhow, wondering if there is anyone out there who knowing more about this dual sim thing than i has any ideas??
Hmmm........did some checking and think my problem with the dual sim thing is due to the 2G network on telstra and optus being shut down.
Seems under the software on the G5, whichever SIM card that is NOT set to handle mobile data, tries to default to 2G as preferred network (under Settings / More / Mobile networks) and the "Preferred network type" button is greyed out and inactive.
Of course no 2G network when you try and make a call it tells you no network available. Sadness.
So, unless Motorola come up with a fix, or deal with this in their next update for Australian phones, i think i'm stuck on switching between SIMS, and NOT having the second SIM able to listen out and receive calls, which even if both SIMs share a radio seems a no-brainer capability to have to me. Have sent a begging email to Motorola asking if they have a fix / workaround and would they consider thinking about this for next update? Pretty much all i can do, although if there are other Australian users with similar issue wouldn't hurt for them to contact Motorola support as well??
Anyone know how to set up a "shortcut" direct to the SIM config page in settings?? App or widget for that??
Am hearing on the G5 Whirlpool thread that there is an update / fix in the works and maybe on the way from Motorola to deal with the dual sim issue (defaulting to 2G) on the Australian G5.
Got the below from Motorola support today. So, fix is on the way.
Good day!

Don't think that's a setting we can change. As far as i know that's set by the provider via sim card settings or when they provision the phone. It's possible a new sim card may fix the issue...
Did you contact the provider you are using and ask them to fix (or look into) it?
Had the same issue today. Couldn't get RCS working with EE Uk. Easy fix. Put your sim in an iPhone or blackberry, settings, phone, edit your phone number, save, remove sim. Put sim back in your and reboot. You'd have to do this for both sims if you're using 2 sims in your note 10+. Voila!
