I have a opportunity to get a good deal on one. Should I buy?
I have a nexus 5 that I love, but I want more battery life. I have two small children that I take pictures of, so most pictures would be close range. Camera adequate for that?
I tried the OnePlus One. I liked it, but it was a little big, and the camera wasn't fast enough.
I could get it for $100 difference over my nexus 5.
Thoughts?
Of you want to keep it stock battery life isn't that great but if you go gpe or flash nocturnals gpe ROM battery life will be great
I usually switch phone every 6 months but this phone, I cant find another one that can beat it...but thats just my usage.
If this was a few months ago, I would say yes but kinda hard to recommend right now with the newer crop of phones out or coming soon. The Z3 would probably be the biggest contender with an excellent camera and crazy battery life.
I bought the N5 on release day and had it till about a month ago. Used Sense on the M8 for a day and found it laggy in some places so I converted it to GPE and that only lasted a couple of days cause it just didn't feel as smooth as stock N5.
Went back to Sense but a couple of days ago reconverted to GPE again and this time it feels smoother.
Maybe it only feels this way in comparison to Sense or that I have forgotten how fluid the N5 was but I'm not complaining. I got the M8 as a stop-gap phone until the N6 release but looks like I may have to stick with the M8 cause I can't justify the price of the N6.
HTC One M8
I don't think I would ever buy a Sony phone especially saying they're struggling business wise m8/m8 gpe are the winners
sent from my HTC one m8 google play edition
HTC was struggling profit wise too.
HTC One M8
Previous phone was a Nexus 5 so now owning the HTC ONE M8 is very nice.if you miss the feel of you Nexus just flash GPE
I know people fight about it all the time around here and I'm going to get flamed to death, but if camera is important you'd kinda be nuts to buy this phone. Worst camera I've had in a long time. Look at any head-to-head matchup among modern phones and hte M8 is invariably in last place when it comes to camera.

It's all good but compared to the Nexus 5 it is a better richness to the quality of pictures. And the forward facing takes really clear pics [emoji111]

Came from the Nexus 5 as well. Miss the size of the Nexus but the pros of the M8 definitely outweigh the cons of it compared to the N5. If you're bored, go ahead and switch.

Adorable. She looks around the same age as my daughter.
I'm not really crazy about quality of pictures, but speed of the camera. With my kids constantly moving, it's nice to capture something without much blur. Does the camera work well for that?
Yes but you can video and save stills if you have to
Stock can have as great battery life as any rom. In fact, depending on your usage and setup, it makes no difference what rom you use... Stock ... Gpe... Aosp.
If you really want good battery life, do everything (or as much as you want to) in post 2 in the battery thread in my signature.
Here's my results... Stock based Sense rom. And stock kernel. (note the average times at bottom of the shot... Not just a good day.... The norm.)
No, N5 is no where near the M8 on battery life... Potentially.

So I tested out the Verizon Galaxy Nexus at Columbus Circle in NYC. I was surprised at how light the phone is compared to it's size. I was also surprised at how thin it is (the photos online make it seem thicker than it actually is).
The phone is light and made of plastic but it didn't feel cheap like the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 next to it did.
The phone is not completely black, it's more of a very dark gray.
The screen looks amazing, very sharp and great colors. YouTube has an option to force streaming in High Quality even when not on wifi. The software buttons also hide themselves a few seconds after the video starts.
There was no SIM inserted in the phone but the Wifi speeds were 19,800kbps download (can't recall what the upload speed was).

heh... i had an iphone back in the day... i used to fall asleep at night while letting it stream music & when i woke up the next day it was still on streaming.... tried that once with my old Thunderbolt & remember getting up in the night to use the restroom(a few hours later) and the phone was already dead.... and considering that my Rezound only lasts about 2 1/2 hours(constant use) i'm not expecting much more from the GN.

damn thats a let down well the it has 1850mah battery and iphone only has 1400mah so lets see how it performs
LTE radios all use a lot of power, its endemic to first generation chipsets. The VIA chipset in the Gnex is no different and radio performance in general is mediocre in poor signal areas, compared to my Bionic or any of my other Motorola devices. The Qualcomm LTE chipset on the Thunderbolt is abysmal in this regard and battery life suffered horribly as a result.
None of the current LTE phones is going to deliver really decent battery life until the second generation chipsets appear next year.

And the iPhone doesn't have LTE, and has a 3.5" screen. That helps.
You can't even compare. 2 different OS's and completely different devices.
Hey guys !
I got my HTC One X a week ago and preferred it over the Galaxy SIII after thinking alot and I'm glad to make the decision. I used it for a week and no issues uptill now. Multi-tasking is also great, maybe because I the middle east version. I just found that my phone was heating alot twice during this week but not so often. I think all smartphones heat up these days, having owned the iPhone 4 and 4s, Galaxy SII and HTC Sensation, all of them heated just like this one, so I don't take it as much of big deal. I think the phone is great and HTC has improved their sense skin alot and they also have a different sound set on this version. The camera is great. The best of all, the screen, it's GORGEOUS. Now for some pictures. Bought a cover and screen protector along with the phone and the pictures on the phone are with the protector ! Mine is the Taiwanese version.

Thanks Guys ^ I don't why people create a hype about all the issues and bugs. I didn't face any kind of problem with my phone, not even software issues. I was very scared before getting this phone because of all the hype and criticism, obviously as I'm throwing out alot of cash for it, but then I thought there are always rumours and hypes created for every product that is and was and finally bought this phone on my birthday ! and I must say I'm not regretting it. And I just love the build quality and design
And yes, I was gonna get the black one but the white finish of the polycarbonate on this phone is amazing !

To be fair when the phone 1st came out there was bugs in the original software, HTC have since addressed those with updates.
If you willing to root your phone there are options to reduced temperature of the Tegra chip from reducing voltage with custom kernel and disable 1 or 2 cores.
The One X is a great phone, enjoy.

The build quality and the screen, the design, the materials used in the making, it feels elegant ! And even according to benchmarks there isn't a whole lot of difference between the performance of the galaxy s3 and HTC One X, Rest of the applications on the s3 are gonna be ported on the one X if anyone really cares about them for example the s voice on s3 is already available to all android devices and samsung has unblocked it

Lol Blunt.
I installed the newer Motorola camera from my Droid Mini onto the M. Everything seems to work for the most part, except the screen gets jumpy and glitchy when scrolling the settings wheel. It takes photos much faster. It was taking several seconds to take a photo with the original camera, so the newer Moto camera is a huge improvement in that regard. I don't know if the image quality is any better or worse, looked kind of bad to me, but I thought the photos looked kind of bad with the original camera ever since KK anyway. Might just be because indoors and not enough light though.

The Razr M's camera/sensor is terrible. My pictures come out foggy, grainy, and ever since KitKat...pinkish. Using Moto's new camera or Google's camera, my pictures don't come out with the pinkish hue, but there still terrible. My Galaxy Nexus takes better photos, and that camera sucks... bad.
Not as good as my iPhone 4S or Droid Mini. I just took a few indoor pics and they look out-of-focus and grainy. I don't know if they would look better with the stock camera since the new Moto camera replaces the stock camera app so I can't try both easily. Stock camera was just too damn slow to be useful. Moment is gone before it takes the pic. I feel like once upon a Jellybean, the phone used to take decent pics, and stock camera wasn't nearly as slow. I have a few pics that came out pretty decent that I was sure were taken on the M long ago, on JB. Granted, they were all outdoor pics.
I think even on KK, the pics it takes might be better than the Kyocera Hydro Elite I had (surprisingly bad for 8MP) and way better pics than the LG Lucid 2 which had the worst 5MP camera considering its speed/performance level was close to the RAZR M. Usually you only see cameras as bad as the Lucid 2's on cheap plastic single-core prepaid phones that come in blister packs.
thank u all very much i pressed it
Well after bith of your opinions and the revuews i read i think i will be looking else were for a phone fot work i need a cheap phone with a decent camera oh well thinking aout a used s3 or a used 4s thanks again guys if i could just strech for a used droid dna hope to see you all in anither forum
Hmmm, well, I guess the pics are not TOO awful.
Took a couple pics of my car with the newer Moto camera (don't make fun, it's an antique, lol). One in the morning, one in the afternoon. I think old camera probably took better pics, but was unbearably slow and the newer one takes pics instantly. I had HDR and spot focus turned off.

Hey guys i'm having trouble deciding between the G3 and the M8. I'm looking to get a new phone but i really can't decide between the two! I have heard good and bad things about the G3's display (too dim and extremely sharp effect). I would like to know what you guys think about the two phones and why you might think one phone is better than the other.
Thanks!
I have absolutely no issue with the phone being too dim. I use auto in and outdoors with no problem.
The text has a sharp effect on grey pages I think. You can notice it but it's not as bad as some people make it seem.
I didn't consider the M8 at all. My debate was between the S5 and G3. The m8 looks nice but aluminum scratches fairly easy, it's quick heavy(I wouldn't want that in my gym shorts), average at best camera. I just wasn't feeling the M8. Its big plus are gesture feats, speakers, and battery life from what I've heard.
I love my G3. No phone can compare to its aesthetics, fantastic camera, double tap to wake and lock works flawlessly, the keyboard is actually really good, the display, the battery easily gets me through a day, I love the animations, lots of customization options out of the box.

I have both phones. So far I am liking the g3 a bit more, like having a notification light. The kinda feels like a bigger version of my nexus 5 with a micro sd and a removable battery. The m8 is nice but it has to a case on it or it is way to slippery.
Hey folks... first I am not trying to start anything negative....I really am wanting the P2XL but with the perceived issues I read about and the price tag I am having difficulty rationalizing the extra 400 dollars vs the Essential. I know many of the issues are blown a bit out of proportion. To me the best way of getting the facts is to go to the users who actually use the device...
I would be coming from the Nexus 6p.
Thanks for any information.
Mate, if you want a new Device and consider the Pixel 2 XL I just want to tell you: Get it and test it. If it fits your expectations stick with it, if not, change. Easy.
I also ordered mine but will get it in round about 5-10 days and despite all the negative press I am very excited. If it doesnt fit my expectations I will get my refund and done.
Btw: the hardest competitor to the Pixel 2 XL is the upcoming OnePlus 5t in my opinion and absolutely not the essential
Agreed, buy it and try it for yourself. The return process is pretty simple with Google if you change your mind. All you have to loose is a bit of time.
Buy it or don't buy, who cares, I got mine...
if you need to have to ask someone else for justification, you probably shouldn't buy it.
I think you should buy an iPhone. Those people have been convinced that their product is superior and they should buy it. So I think you should as well! Jk jk jk?

What issues have you read about? Have you experienced these yourself? Every device has issues when released, this didn't stop me from buying. The price tag is there because Google DOESN'T want to sell hardware. They give you the price tag to deter you away, and it works for most.
I'm a Google/AOSP enthusiast - I was on every nexus device and Pixel. I will always be. Issues or not. Google has not once ever let me down like OnePlus has. I will stand behind Google and what ever it sells.
The company backing a product is also a huge selling point for me. Not to mention the phone rocks. Just an FYI. What phone has an orange power button!?
The essential phone would be the obvious buy if it wasn't for the camera. The extra $400 (closer to $500) is the premium I'm willing to pay to have the best camera ever on a phone. I have 2 young kids, so the ability to be able to pull out my phone and get an awesome picture every time is something I'm willing to pay for.
If you don't take a lot of pictures, there's plenty of better options out there for you. I'd consider the essential, the op 5t, the razer phone, heck even my old v20 is still rock solid and retains a removable battery and ir blaster.

I have the P 2 XL and love the phone. Does everything right. The barely showing time of day and message notification is GREAT.
Also, the what music is playing now feature is helpful. If you don't want to buy and maybe return it, go to a Verizon store and handle
one for a few. You'll be able to tell alot from handling it and seeing if you like the screen. Def worth a look! Get the US Unlocked version
from Google or Swappa, not the Verizon due to locked down bootloader. p.s. Tried and returned the Essential. Doesn't compare.....
Your choice and hands-on is best test! My badboy Pixel XL 2 is rocking...
When the phone came out all reviews were overwhelmingly positive based on the reviewer's perception of the particular phone they were sent. My perception is the same. I love it! Very fast, very efficient, great camera and now the screen is great too! Based on most initial reviews and my own experience I'm guessing the phones with significant problems are very few compared to those that don't. Also the overall rating on this forum is 4.8.
I think most of the issues with the phone affect each of us (or don't affect us at all) differently based on how we use it. You have nothing to lose by trying it.
My XL is going back today. Apparently I have one of the 'bad' pOLED displays.
I could not care less about the saturation or whatever. And it's not just the blue shift on mine. The red and yellows that appear unless you are looking dead center ruin the experience.
This is not acceptable for $850+ device. The IPS LCD on my 2 yr old LG V10 is vastly superior to the Pixel 2 XL.
The quality control issue is real, and the denials by Google are sad. Here are two side by side from the other thread:

I'm more than happy with mine. Although I'm still waiting for the 5t to come out but i think I'ma stick with XL. This thing is so smooth. Battery life and camera are the best two parts of the phone. The blue shift is not bothering me at all and although I'm not used to the natural colors but i think it could be fixed with custom kernels. Microphone is terrible tho.
