Try reflashing the rom you are using.

I haven't flashed or been around for awhile, so I came to check out the new ROMs and changes. Decided to flash TWRP touch recovery and andybones stock ROM, started late at night and finished, went to bed and woke up to notice my phone tried to update, and would restart, power up, refresh, power off...it was stuck in that loop cycle. So I only had the andybones on my sd so I re-flashed again and made sure not to try to update.
Now, I'm tryin to flash other roms and they all fail...I don't know if it's an issue with something that happened in that failed update, or if it's an issue with TWRP, I noticed some others were having issues with it too. I'd like to switch to CWM recovery but don't seem to have su permissions on my phone, I couldn't get terminal to work on it.
Thoughts? Help is greatly appreciated

If your phone tried to update and left you with a "!" icon, you can kill the update (it'll keep trying to update every boot) by removing
/cache/fumo/OTAPkg.zip - you can use 'adb shell' to log in to the phone and use that shell to remove it. Then 'adb reboot' and you should be OK.
TWRP v2.4.3.0
I'm wanting to switch to a custom ROM so I don't really care about disabling the update issue, I flashed it because it was the only one that would work with TWRP for some reason

There is a newer version. 2.4.4.0 that seems to fix the problem.
So if you are in TWRP go into the file manager and go to /sbin. Delete a file called make_ext4fs. Now you'll be able to wipe and flash or restore.
When you have a stable rom again, go to goo manager, menu, install openrecovery script and it will update to the newest.
None of that worked for me
*edit*
Finally got a terminal emulator to work for me, and am running CWM touch, just flashed a CM7 ROM and loading for first time...we'll see how this plays out, but it seems as though I got it, finally. the stock rooted ROM was having su issues and what not, but it looks like I got it

Are you s-off and do you have a functioning rom on your phone currently?
I have an S3 from sprint. it has a faild root at this point (TrevE). My guess is that an update locked up my root.. I am tring to flash back to stock so I can reroot but SU blocks everything i do. I have tried to reroot but CW wont come up, just android recovery. Everything I have found on removeing SU requires you to be rooted first.... I even tried Root Browser and Uninstall master but SU just denies permission.... All i want to do is start from scratch. Please help...

The problem was that i watched too many videos and went through too many how to guids. I kept working at it and finaly got it to work. i finaly found a video that told me not to let it reboot after odin was done. I turned "off" the auto reboot on Odin, which is the exact oposite of what every other video said to do, and manualy shut it down and put it straight into Recovery Mode. All of the videos I had seen said to leave Auto Reboot on so i had been doing that. after it would reboot I would shut it back down and try to go to recvery mode but got the android recvery insted of CWRecovery. I guess the reboot after Odin was enough to through it all out of wac. Manually shutting it down after Odin and then going into recovery right away got it. Unfortunatly thats the problem when there are 5,000 answers to the same question. Thanks

You may have watched some videos from before the last two official stock updates that were released several months ago - I don't recall which one, but one of those updates added a function that reinstalls the stock recovery every time the phone boots up. And since the custom recovery is the only way to flash a custom rom that doesn't revert your recovery to stock, you have to do that while the custom recovery is still installed, which means before the stock rom ever gets a chance to boot
In other words, nothing was thrown out of whack - it was all operating the way it was designed to, by developers who don't want us to be able to mess with their programming - we sure showed them, though, lol

Recently I soft-bricked my LG Optimus G (e975) and used KDZ updater to re-install original firmware. after re-rooting the phone with framaroot i can no longer enter fastboot mode on my phone. I typed in the command on adb to reboot into fastboot but the phone's response is to go ahead and trigger a normal reboot. I tried using teh button combinations to get into fastboot to no avail. its as if fastboot has just vanished off my phone.

Now that your phone is rooted, install freegee from playstore to unlock your device. Use Freegee to unlock your phone's bootloader, you will be asked in freegee whether to install CWM or TWRP as a recovery. After choosing, it will install the recovery. The recovery has fastboot.
I wish that worked
Funny thing is i tried FreeGee already and it forces my phone to a playstore app called busybox or something like that. if i press the back button to get back to the app it goes crazy and runs a window telling me "Tried twice to copy utilities and it failed" then my phone reboots. (Screenshot is attatched)

Just try it again. I got that error before, but after few tries, it worked.
OR
Try to turn off your phone, then press Vol up + power button. This is for fastboot.
Ive tried a lot of times and it still isnt working
Doing that just brings me to stock recovery

Go to Play Store and install BusyBox. It's pretty much an essential component for a rooted device, anyway. There are several BusyBox installers, I would suggest the one by Stericson. Then try FreeGee again.
THANK YOU
Well as obvious as that solution may have seemed i (just as obviously) never thought of it. Thanks for the suggestions and the patience. it worked

How did you solve it? I have the same problem.
I had the problem too. I just rooted with Framaroot, then installed SuperSU, FreeGee & Busybox... Ran busybox and granted permission, once busybox installed then ram freegee, took backup of EFS, installed CWM via MAKO method. And then flashed PHILZTOUCH & am now running CM11

Thid was a birtbdsy present ive literally opened today. Ive noticed a few problems.
1. In the about section, there us no selectable tab for manual software update. Why?
2. The phone has come preloaded with Super Su root and although root has option to unroot in app, it just says uninstalling please wait for like 3 hours.
I tried recovery abd twrp and nothing, phone goes black with little red triangle then re boots with rom.
I clicked in android firnware to see if i would get the quirky android firmware logo, pressed 5 times and nothing. Please advise
If it has SuperSU, then it's not a brand new phone.
In settings > about, the first thing on the top should be software updates.

What is the exact command you are using to install TWRP?
You also need to unlock the bootloader, to install TWRP.
I'm struggling with this.
I have installed the latest Official Samsung Firmware with Odin, but I cannot get TWRP to install.
I am trying to us ODIN and it appears to work, but when I try and boot to recovery it doesn't work.
I get a note saying "Recovery is not Seandroid Enforcing" and it loads standard recovery.
Now, I also haven't been able to locate the OEM Unlocking option within the dev options, so perhaps that is the problem.
Hope someone can help.

It's the SM-T900.
I actually got it working after posting this.
I used ODIN in the same way. But unchecked auto reboot.
I then used the 3 button reset and TWRP loaded up.
Thanks
