Brand new htc issues - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Thid was a birtbdsy present ive literally opened today. Ive noticed a few problems.
1. In the about section, there us no selectable tab for manual software update. Why?
2. The phone has come preloaded with Super Su root and although root has option to unroot in app, it just says uninstalling please wait for like 3 hours.
I tried recovery abd twrp and nothing, phone goes black with little red triangle then re boots with rom.
I clicked in android firnware to see if i would get the quirky android firmware logo, pressed 5 times and nothing. Please advise

If it has SuperSU, then it's not a brand new phone.
In settings > about, the first thing on the top should be software updates.

What is the exact command you are using to install TWRP?
You also need to unlock the bootloader, to install TWRP.

[Q] Will not boot into recovery

I recently got a defy and the person i got it from said it was rooted already. Super User was present but he didn't have Rom Manager, I went to the market and downloaded it. when I try to boot into recovery it hangs on the Triangle screen. I pulled Bat, and tried to boot into recovery and using rom manager and got the same thing. I have sdk and adb tools already loaded on my computer but I am still extremely new to all of this. I tried to root again with super 1 click but that doesn't work. Is there another way of rooting, Even if its more difficult I dont mind I just want to get this figured out. Thanks in advance
It probably is rooted. The thing is, we have a locket bootloader so default recovery can't be changed. You can install 2nt init. You will have to reboot and next reboot again. There are guides it you are ensure. It's an app in the market. Next go to rom manager, select install => defy => already installed cmw. And afterwards you can use it.
Read through the all-in-beginners-guide and you will find all answers.
You should press both Vol UP and Vol DOWN at the same time on the triangle screen to acess the recovery menu
Follow this
hey if you are stuck follow this thread to install CM7 on your defy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079150
it will work i have also followed this.
and if u still have prob then message will solve this for u dude.

[Q] Problem with CWM Recovery

Hi!
Got my G Pro last week, today i rooted it (SU & SuperUser said it worked) and tried to install the actual CWM via the ROM Manager. ROM Manager said it was ok but when i try to start the recovery it only shows the Android robot, lying on his back, front flap open and an red triangle with an exclamation mark over it. After about 30 seconds the phone restarts (to normal mode).
It isn't possible to start recovery via the shortcut, there will always be the official message about the recovery.
TIA!

In short, you cannot use the standard CWM from ROM Manager without Loki. You must use a Lokified version, i.e. a version which includes the Loki exploit, such as the one that FreeGee installs.
No other recovery will work without Loki, because the LG OG Pro has a locked bootloader.
Sad, but true. With a fully unlocked bootloader, this device would be the king of all devices, IMO.

I agree with you man.!!
Thank you for the answer, so i downloaded FreeGee and tried to install the recovery, after downloading the recovery it says "boot md5sum mismatch" and does not install the recovery. Almost tried it a couple of times, it never worked.
Got it, after applying the official LG-Update FreeGee does its magic. Thank you for your help.

[Q] Nexus 7 2013 recovery issue.

Hi there,
I'm not new to rooting and flashing devices, but something went wrong during my last root. I was using CWM to root the most recent paranoid android rom, a 4.4 rom, and after I rebooted, the device started normal and works fine. However, it's completely lost root AND has no recovery. Just the little opened up android guy with his red triangle.
I've tried using the toolkit, but the ADB drivers just are not being recognized. I've tried all of the driver options, and it says that it worked, but when I run the driver test it says failed. When I connect the device as MTP, it shows up as having recognized the device, but I can't actually access the device from the computer. When I try fastboot, nothing happens. The device just goes black and sits like that until I hold the power button down for awhile.
So, the toolkit can't get me back to stock, at least not any way I've tried. And since I can't install a recovery, I can't flash a new rom or stock.
I guess it could be worse, as the device does still work, but I want it fully functional.
Does anyone have any solutions?
Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question.
Thanks in advanced!

Few things:
try another soft reset. power the device on, and then hold the power button down until it restarts.
download superuser/supersu to see if there actually is no root. sometimes it's just being difficult and says there is no root.
Following that, try downloading ROM manager and seeing if it'll flash the recovery.

[Q] Stuck in a Fastboot Limbo (bricked)

As the title says , i'm stuck in this situation with my M8 (Sorry in advance for my bad english, it's not my first language)
Iesterday i ****ed up because i tried to install the newest OTA with a custom recovery. Obviously i couldn't do it because it gave me errors in TWRP, so i found the stock backup of the newest updates here in the forum and i installed it. Until now, no problem.
The fact is that after i installed the 2.11.708.2 software (with the recovery) i saw that there was the 3.32 patch (which was the 4.4.4 update for Android) and i said to myself "i installed the original recovery, let's see if the OTA works now". So, that's what i did, i downloaded the last software update from the phone; when it start rebooting to install the update it went in a bootloop, where i can only see the white start screen with "HTC" in green.
I can go to the bootloader, but from there i'm stuck: if i select Recovery it just restart the bootloader, showing for like 2 second the white initial screen with the writings that says "Entering Recovery..."but nothing really happening. Same thing if i go to Factory Reset.
Tried connect it by USB at the pc but with nothing new. The HTC Sync Manager opens up but it say "No plugged phone". By ADB if i write "adb devices" it's just blank and cant reboot or something like that.
Please tell me there is a solution and i didnt just threw 400 euros in the trash D:

If you can enter the booloader then just flash a custom recovery via fastboot and flash a backup.

You need to uninstall HTC Sync from your PC. After you have used it to install the drivers, you don't need it anymore, and it will make it so that your PC doesn't recognize your phone in debugging. Hope that helps.

Phone stopped working, no idea how to fix it now

I don't know what happened but all of a sudden my gs4 stopped working and I could only get it up to the logo before it rebooted again. I am a total noob so I don't have any developer apps or firmware or whatever. I tried using Kies but I get stuck on the serial number part as I have entered everything on the box and behind the battery with none of them working. Now I am trying to use Odin but I think I messed up my phone even more. On the box it says M919NUVUEMK5 so I downloaded the firmware with that same code but originally I had downloaded the NUVUFOK one and used that. So I followed the guide and used that NUVUFOK file, and it seemd to be working as the download bar on my phone was almost done, but then all of a sudden it failed. I figured that was the wrong firmware so I went back and got the MK5 one, but now when I try to do the same thing with this firmware the bar only loads a tiny bit and then stops. Also the phone won't start up properly after I tried this, now it says there is an issue with the firmware upgrade and I need to use recovery mode in Kies. I have no idea what to do or what I am even doing, all I want to do is get my phone working again.
If you live in the US, you can take it to Best Buy an they will use there software to get it working again. Its hell of a lot less work.

Hello. You will need to reformat your device so odin can recognize it. This can be done by using odin to flash a custom recovery like TWRP. The download link for that custom recovery is: https://dl.twrp.me/jfltetmo
Once you have that downloaded open odin and select AP option. Browse to where you saved TWRP and select it. Now proceed with flashing like normal. after its done flashing turn off the device.
After it is completely off hold the power button and volume up button simultaneously until you see the blue words on the top right corner of the boot logo screen.
Now you are in the twrp custom recovery menu. Go to Wipe > Advanced Wipe then select everything except for external sd, USB, and internal storage.
Once it is complete formatting turn the phone off again and boot back into download mode. Now you can reflash the correct firmware for your phone. I recommend using this firmware instead since it is a whole image rather than an incremental update. After flashing this your phone will reboot, give you the loading android logo and then the phone will start up once again! Good luck
The phone is giving the firmware error message because you tried to flash an older firmware to the phone.
Download the latest firmware for your phone and reflash it using Odin and the original Samsung USB cable.

I downloaded it and it worked but now can't get past the "blue words" part. When trying to go into recovery it gives me either of two screens, one says "system software not authorized by samsung has been found on your phone." with red words "secure fail: kernel" or the blue words show up followed by red words that say "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" and then yellow words "set warranty bit: recovery". the phone is still resetting and freezing randomly.

You need to boot into recovery holding volume up and power button simultaneously. Once your in recovery mode format it. then you can reflash stock firmware.
