If we wanted an AOSP rom, could we re-work the Nexus 4?

I want the Nexus 4 but of course it isn't on Sprint. So my question is can we get someone to a Nexus 4 and can we re-work the rom for it into something for the Sprint LG Optimus G? I am a nOOb so don't kill me all at once. I have been thinking of buying the Nexus 4 and running it on a pre-pay line but I have such amazing pricing through Sprint I really don't want to leave.

My understanding is once LG releases the Jelly Bean source for the Optimus G the flood gates will open for AOSP, CM, MIUI, etc. Problem is right now we can't port any Nexus Roms because they all require a higher kernel version then we have right now.
short answer is no, they're still different phones...BUT! they are working on AOSP & custom ROMs nonetheless
Thanks for the quick response. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place and can't make up my mind. I pay $160 with taxes and fees for 3 phones on Sprint's unlimited everything but I really would rather have phones that of course aren't on Sprint. I like only 2 Android phones right now, the Sony Xperia TL and of course the Google Nexus 4. The only thing I would buy on Sprint right now is the LG Optimus G but only if I can get as close to AOSP as possible. The Nexus 4 on T-Mobile will run me $80 a month and the Xperia TL on AT&T will run $100 a month, so you see my predicament. So again I am thankful for the quick response.
I'm with ya there but I'm not..... hear me out.
Everyone I bought a phone I would put some form of cyanogen mod on it. Love the look and feel of that rom. Did this on every phone and it didn't matter if cyanogen was officially supported or not. Even did it on my galaxy nexus. That changed when I got this bad boy. LG has done minimalistic changes that I could see plus I never use stock camera, stock launcher, stock messaging, stock video player, or stock music player (well sorta ). The only thing I wanted were the quick settings in the notification area and the status bar brightness control. But LG has the quick settings plus a very easy to use brightness toggle.
Plus I love how this phone connects to my pc via Bluetooth so I can play my phone music through my pc. Pretty handy. And that is using the stock music player.
All in all you won't be disappointed with this phone even without an aosp rom

I have to say I understand where you're coming from but I too took the plunge on this
Using Nova Launcher has me having a very close AOSP experience
Thanks for the response guys, I ordered the LG Optimus G from best Buy for 84.99 today.

Thanks for the response guys but it looks like I am leaving Sprint anyways. I picked up the Nexus 7 32Gb today for $235 and I am happy with it. I get my Android fix with it so I am leaving Sprint and going to Windows Phone 8 on AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon.

okay, have fun. BTW JB is here next month through LG most likely, and we can quickly get CM10.1 on it. CM9 is already mostly done also. We also have a JB build, but none of the radios work. so we will have the latest and greatest within a month or two at the latest I am expecting.
Thought I would share this, someone turned a AT&T LG Optimus G into a Nexus 4, LOL.

LG G Pro

I have been going from Forum to forum looking for people to comment on ROM's for the LG Optimus G edition phones but most of them are pretty dead. Is this phone just not that good? Im looking at getting the Verizon LG G2 but i am going to be weary if there is minimal software support for the phone
Went through that with HTC, not doing it again.
This phone is incredible but currently has limited support. We will get some Roms but nothing like S4 or HTC One.

This phone is amazing, support will grow as more countries get the phone. I have been personally reading and watching everything I can find on how to build ROMs, I code websites so I am trying to take that knowledge and apply it.
I say buy it, and that's coming from a S3 that went through hundreds of ROMs, this phone is already better.
The G Pro and G2 are heavily rumored to be on VZW.
If flashing roms (on a daily) is your thing, I'd suggest you don't get either.
But if you're looking for performance, you really can't go wrong with either.
I love the G Pro stock. Its way faster and has more useful features than my old S4.

Support will grow for this phone and the fact that it's a great phone means it will only get more support once people in other countries get it. This phone is the best I have ever owned and I don't regret selling my note 2 to get it.

Yup this phone doesnt have support right now but it will surely grow... but as far as i am concerned believe me guys i have owned all the latest phones and have used all the latest roms and on it but this phone beats them all even in stock. I REALLY DONT NEED ANY ROMS FOR THIS PHONE AS IT IS A KILLER EVEN IN STOCK.

As this phone come in stores next week in Germany, I consider buying it.
But why are there almost no roms although it is out in the US and Asia for quite a while?
In all honesty, this phone does not need ROMs, just root and CWM will give you the ability to add mods.
I have every Rom imaginable available to me.on my Note and use to flash daily.
I haven't touched it since I bought this phone.
I agree this is hands down the best phone i have had since the og x, im coming from the note 2 and have no regrets but the fact is its LG and lg has gotten a bad name the past few years. its a sad thing but i doubt much development will happen. Id rather have a few good kernels than a boat load of roms tho. So if your looking for a phone to go crazy with flashing this isnt it.

While I am having withdrawal it is kind of nice to do other things with my life...I do wish someone could get a way to run on T-mobile (more than EDGE) without having to tie two phones together....

Bye bye Optimus G

Hello my friends. The time has come for me to let the optimus g and try a new phone. I said that i won't buy LG anymore... because they gave a s**t kitkat update to our G .. but they gave it anyway , so I will try possible my last LG Phone.
So i bought an LG G Pro 2.(3 gb of ram + kitkat from factory) . Hope the phone will get lg g3 ui though.
What i want to say.. for people who know.. we have a group on facebook:

I will continue to support this group(moderate+add new users).
However it's time to pass the legacy to another optimus G user... so feel free to apply for admin function in the group.

I will choose the winner based on the reputation at my discretion.

I plan to keep my OG for a while yet, can't find the perfect rom though...always something messed up. I only bought mine last October and rooted and rom'd it out of the box. I think I'll keep it for another year or 18 months, then I'll have probably broken it somehow be it cracking it or bricking it. But, after everything, this is my favourite phone...ever. Best phone I've ever owned. Period.

Try Omnirom's official nightlies, been using those for a while now and everything is perfect, also on some of the builds battery is amazing. You could also use stock, if you have an E975 you can already flash the KDZ, if you have an E977 or ATT, T mobile optimus g, well, you will have to wait a bit more just like me pal.

After complaining so much about the lg update policy you choose lg again ? I know that lg made great devices, but it takes balls of steel to make the decision to stay with this OEM.

Brand new phone and already hoping to receive update (flat ui). Bad choice man. Anyway good luck.
In my opinion upgrade from G to G2 not worth it for general usage day-to-day.
i keep this phone for a time, until android L is official release, since LG will not upgrade to Android L & need it for Android Development then will switch to a nexus or other LG phone

G4 Switch from Samsung Questions

Hello all,
Currently have the S5, previous phone was S4 (RIP unlocked bootloaders) and thinking about making the switch to this new G4. This phone looks pretty sweet and was wondering how the UI and everything is from Samsung? I'm sure some people here have made the switch. Tired of how secure Samsung is now with Verizon. Not an HTC fan, so figured LG was the way to go.
How's the development for these phones? I've skimmed over the G3 forums and seems to be some ROMs, but nothing much.
Basically, if you're stuck on Verizon like me, is it a good move to switch to LG since they seem to eventually get unlocked or be stuck with Samsung and TouchJizz for a little more while?
Or is the M9 just too good to not get over my hatred of it and select that?
Just some options here from you guys to help sway my mind, thanks guy!

I ditched Sammy note 1 on 2013 (No...its just simply died on me one morning on a freezing temperature.) then got G2 then G3 and now have both G3 and G4. And never look back cos Life's Good. Why not much custom ROMs? Simple answer we dont really need them so much. We Stock ROM developers and some tweaks.
LG UX 4.0 is awesome. Try it yourself when its available.

Thanks for some of your input! Much appreciated. Samsung has been a headache the last year alone because of all their government contracts now. They heartily beefed up their security. Add Verizon on top of that, and yeah, you get my drift. I lucked out with my S4 having it bootloader unlocked and chances are Samsung will never have another one unlocked. HTC and LG seem to get cracked within a couple months, so I'd rather take a chance with that than switch to crap carriers like T-Mobile.

[QUESTION]LG made a G4 model without Death Issue?

There's no specific model that won't get bootloop. Except for maybe getting a different device like an LG G5 which is not much more cost depending on condition than a G4 in the US anyway.

No if it bootloops but when. You are better off with something else. If u dont get the rite model itll bootloop and no root or twrp. So a double down whammy. Plus there is very little support left for the g4. But there are still wonderful devs and memebers working very hard to keep her alive
My g4 died a week ago and she was 2 which is extremly old in g4 years lol.
6 to 12 months is average life span
I thought the refurbished g4s didn't have that problem anymore

lg is doing a decent job of warranty on them but i feel they should quit and start replacing them with similar speced devices as they seem to have not fixxed the issue
now some people will contridict me and say the newer ones dont bootloop its up to you againg some refurbs from lg claimed to bootloop too
again up to you if ure willing to take a chance on a decent device
I got mine something like year ago straight from LG Poland, as my G Flex 2 had many issuses so they replaced it with G4. Never had any problems with it, even through heavy usage and software moding. Altough LG Poland service seems very good and i don't care as long as i have a warranty (which is two years from the date of warranty exchange). Only thing i would change is the Snapdragon 808(bigger battery would be also nice), but otherwise this phone is superb and it's still seems better than newer LG phones, especially G5. Still best LG design to date and it's shame that this curved design with buttons on the back havn't survived.
Also, i'm writing this down with my G4
