I'm hoping the At&T and Sprint phones will be supported; it looks like a phone with great specs.
There's no telling for sure but with this phone being a flagship, it probably will be included eventually.
Probably comes with a locked bootloader.. in which case, CM is a no-go..
However, if it's unlocked, there should be awesome development on this phone. If you plan to buy the phone, I would suggest waiting for someone to confirm this has an unlocked bootloader.
I've never owned a lg phone before. Does lg usually lock the bootloader on their phones? Are they encrypted or are they able to be unlocked?

I've never had one either but i've been lurking on the forums for other LG phones and everyone complains of the lack of support. Too bad, I like the specs a lot. But, as that other guy said, if it does become a flagship it should get pretty frequent updates.

I don't remember all the details but, I know with the official 2.2 update they made an active attempt to inhibit modding.
I think the Galaxy series just has enough support that it quickly overcomes any issues.
I've generally assumed there are enough people getting galaxy devices to overcome any such issues..
I'll google a bit and see what comes up..I have a hard time trying to understand why any carrier/mfr locks down phones..
On Att I have owned the Captivate, S2, S3 and Note. All were easily to install custom roms. Bootloader never locked. For some reason Samsung and Att has always been a safe bet from my experience.

Samsung and lg usually don't lock bootloaders HTC and Motorola do... HTC usually puts out an official unlock though... the Verizon Moto's usually get support too... not sure why LG decided to lock the bootloader on the OG... The Samsung's have been unloocked because samsung had the Nexus device. The Nexus is stripped to show the raw power of the os... they should really just make all phones have unlocked bootloaders

I personally still feel it's a bit early to jump the gun and say why things are the way they are. They may have had to lock it for launch since At&t can be a PITA.
I mean Samsung can say "HAHAHAHA, BYE." And At&t suddenly loses out on a lot of impressive kit. Note II, SGS3, and others. Sure At&t still has iPhone but, Samsung is a major android player they don't want to lose.
LG? They probably exert a little more control over.
Samsung is definitely the next best selling phone maker to Apple... they advertise more than other android makers so people associate with them... Sammy's always get compared to the iPhone while people are like the htc what I've never heard of them I get that all day at work

The Droid X came with a locked bootloader and it eventually was supported by CM. It took a while and a couple software leaks to get there though.
To update this thread, there is a strong chance that Cyanogen Mod will have support for this device.
Ricardo Cerqueira would be the person to ask.
Pay attention to the AT&T LGOG Dev forum in the next few days, it seems lie something big is in the works. Hoping for an unlock, and then devs can start building ROMs. Hopefully Cyanogenmod won't be far behind.

The unlock is most certainly coming and as of today, Nov 20 th... the bootloader has been cracked and is ready to install on the at&t and Sprint versions of the phone
Well it looks like the bootloader has been unlocked completely for the USA/CANADA/Korea versions and of course easy root tools have been released. Honestly, I can't imagine it being that difficult now that everything is in place, especially with the similarity to Nexus 4.
Any update to this at all?
I have done it. I have:
1. Rooted
2. Unlocked my bootloader
3. Flashed a custom recovery
4. Flashed CyanogenMod
5. Installed Google apps
All is fine. Except what matters most, my 3G data... 4G is not available in my area but i assume it is not working either. I think WiFi is working, but for now, that is all. I will repost if I get it to work, but for now, be careful my friends. From here I will troubleshoot, if I cannot get it working, I will create a nandroid backup and go back to stock JellyBean
Mainly, whats the root/unlocking process like with LG phones? Is it as locked down as the new Samsung phones. I have a S3 now and looking to upgrade soon. Liking the G3 but ive never had a LG phone. Do you think the process will be similar to the G2?
In the exact same boat. Sub'd

Cool. Thanks for the responses. I hate TW myself and by the looks of the LG OS im gonna need to flash Paranoid Android as soon as possible.
Not to hijack your thread if you consider it off topic but I wonder whether the bootloader will be easier to unlock on the G3. I did some vague research on the G2 and it seems you need to be on a specific version to install custom recoveries and/or use loki patch. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

thats true ! if you update your G2 with official KK OTA for example you will never be able to use loki ! so no more Custom recovery and root
and, it took the LG FLEX about 6 months for us just to get root, and that was while still on 4.2 JB..
I dont know how the G3 will be, but the FLEX is horrible for anything related to development..

Hope your right, but only time will tell...
I am skeptical. I have the G2, and it took a while to achieve root with Kit Kat, and that was achieved by downgrading the bootloader to a previous version (the Jellybean one, which was loki-susceptible) and modifying the kernel to work with it (G2 devs are awesome). Being that the G3 will be released with Kit Kat and never having a previous loki susceptible bootloader, it might be extremely difficult to achieve root. We'll have to see...

Unfortunately, I've never witnessed a developer edition helping with an exploit of a retail version. Well, at least that is the case of Verizon's devices. In fact, seeing photos of a dev edition is kinda discouraging as it suggests that the retail will be most definitely locked down. Maybe it won't be as bad as the Galaxy S5 though (Verizon). Even though I have been exclusivity Samsung for a long time, their Nazi security has forced me to find another brand. Hopefully LG will not try to copy then in that aspect.

All of these companies want corporate business, NOT consumer business; they have to convince corporations that their software/hardware is very secure and un crackable, so thats why they all lock down everything they can, and don't want people rooting/modding/bypassing their security schemes, so dont look for this to change anytime soon, as far as the "big 4" cell phone mfgs are concerned..
My 2 cents, if you value root, do NOT get this phone until it is verified to have an unlocked bootloader on your carrier's version. Do not count on an exploit being found, ever. There are many many sad people in the AT&T and Verizon S5 and Note 3 forums. It has been more than 4 months without root and a huge bounty of around $20k for root. If you normally keep phones for about a year like me that's almost half the life of the phone being locked down. No ad blocking, no titanium backup, no special security apps, and features that have been disabled by the carrier can't be enabled.

Yeah that's not going to help... you can't just switch bootloaders, if you could do that then it would already be unlocked.

Very good point; I know we waited 6 months on the LG flex to get root, so if the G3 follows a similar security scheme, its gonna be a long wait for those getting a G3 in the USA
According to this source, LG has not released any good info on if or when we will see the update, unlike many other manufacturers have stated.
http://m.techradar.com/news/phone-a...l-5-0-release-date-when-can-i-get-it--1257804
Yeah I saw that as well this was my first LG may be my last if this is true
Who cares until its a week plus since the other manufacturers release L? The other guys may have a approximate date but that means nothing (the past proves this statement). For all we know lg will be the first non nexus device to get it pushed out.
Good news? http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/lg-g3-android-lollipop-update-may-land-by-end-of-2014-24-10-2014/
Even once it's released. How many will actually update before a root method is out there for it. lol
Do you think T-Mobile might lock the device down when it releases this update? If they don't, does that make it easier to root? I am just one of those impatient always want the new shiny thing guys

Man I'm in the same boat. Using n5 and debating selling the g3. Good hardware laggy software. I'd keep it and use aosp if I knew it wasn't still a month or two away from working camera and BT. AND I DON'T KNOW THAT lol just missed aosp.
I dont understand why people say the g3 is laggy. There's been post after post on how to get rid of any lag. Turn ART on. Reduce the scale of the animations. Blah blah blah. Read the forums. The phone might not be fast out of the box, but there's simple ways to make it faster. These devs will get the Roms done as long as everyone would search their forums instead of asking the same questions over and over again. Everyone is jumping ship because they don't have the ROM they want. Just be a little more patient. If you wanted a phone that's more on the cutting edge you should have bought or stayed with you nexus phone.
Really tho, with LGs last update, all that lag is literally gone.
Looks like we are supposed to get android lollipop by the end of the year! That's less than 2 months from the release! http://m.gsmarena.com/newscomm-10031.php
Confirmed.

This is just another rumor. "An lg rep said we should get it before the end of the year. "

I agree. I really love the g3 but am really wanting to install a fresh rom like cloudy but am not going to bother if we are getting this update. I can't wait for this version and for someone to do a nice clean no bloat lollipop rom!

I am planning on going to the T-Mobile store later today to pick up a new G4, but first I wanted to ask some questions.
First, how long do you think I'll be waiting until I can root/flash ROMs/etc? I can live without these things for a while, but not forever!
Second, are the touchscreen and other issues something that I should seriously consider before getting this phone, or are they not that big of a deal? Are you guys all happy with the battery life?
So far I have not found any issues. It's been great on my end. Root will come.. It always does

I bought the T-Mobile version from eBay and received it on Saturday. So far no issues. The only gripe I have is slow charging while using the phone, but I just ordered some quick chargers so I should be good.

Thus far I am pretty happy with mine. I have noticed that it sometimes interprets a quick swipe as a press (thus opening an app I did not intend) and that, at least on mine, the digitizer may not go all the way to the edge of the screen. The leftmost 1/8" or so of the screen does not appear to register touch input. The right side isn't great either, but does seem better. I have not heard anyone else mention it though, so hopefully it is just my unit.
The only other gripe I have about it for now is that the viewing angle on the screen is pretty narrow. If you aren't looking at the display straight on it tends to get washed out.

You should never get a phone with the hope of it getting root. It's a bad idea. Root is getting harder and harder to achieve especially with dmverity implemented (Variants of the Note 4 after 9 months still do not have root and most likely never will without a bootloader exploit.) Bootloader exploits are almost non existent. Unfortunately the Tmobile version of this phone has a locked bootloader. You have to also think how long you will have the phone. Are you willing to wait half or more of it's usable life for root?
Get a phone with an unlocked bootloader, then you will never have to worry about it. Get the G4 815 for example or a nexus. I'm running 5.1.1 on my note 3 which would be impossible with a locked bootloader. Unlocked bootloaders will give you a much longer lifespan.
Happy with mine as well, although I'm using MetroPCS SIM on my phone.
My advice really, hold on to your Nexus 5. I think its gonna be a while before you see any ROMS or unlock the boot loader. I can't go back go my Nexus 5 cause this phone is awesome. It was an impulse purchase.
If ROMS and having the phone fully unlocked for development, please don't buy it. Also the more I use this phone, the more I believe that CM12.1 even when it does hit the LG G4, it will be not running at its full potential. Some little things that Stock has, better camera app, the tap lock and unlock screen, lock screen quick view, I mean little things that the CM12.1 Rom will be missing unless it has access to all the drivers of the phone.
I've never forgiven LG for what they Did to the G2X. This phone is awesome and will have best experience with the Stock ROM. Its Not AOSP, I wish it was but it won't.
Just wait. The main reason I got it was because removable battery and SD card. Can't wait for ZeroLemon to release the batter for LG G4.

The stock ROM isn't awful. I came from SlimKat (based on CM) and there are definitely some features that I miss (Long press back to kill & double pressing back to switch the the most recent app mostly). But after installing Nova and reducing the DPI (via ADB) it is very workable. I am still holding out hope for root, but with how great the camera is I am not sure I would flash back to an AOSP ROM.

Touch issues are fixed by the keyboard update. Just be sure to do all the updates available and you should be right as rain there.
Battery life, I get 28+ hours while streaming Spotify through BT speaker for 12 hours, an hour voice calls, as well as a bunch of other goofing around on the device. It's not Note 4 life, but it's far better than any most other phones I've had.
Root/unlock will come, but it could be a while. Honestly, I like the phone well enough stock to not really be all that worried about it. While I'm sure that some devs could make this a bit snappier by debloating it, the stock UI really is pretty snappy and nice.
Camera is also fantastic. Fast action shots come out clear....close up shots have TONS of detail.

I had to pay a whopping $317 just to get my hands on a G4 through tmo's financing department. At least my monthly payments on it are very low.
But it will cost me $322 shipped for that ZenFone 2! I just want to play with it! lol
The phone is great, few things though, the root and subsequently the ROMs will be limited especially when compared to a nexus or even an S6, I have owned every nexus since the Galaxy nexus and I also owned the LG g3, which was a great phone, but development even to this day just never compared and that's mainly because of the carrier specific versions. So if you really like to try all kinds of different ROMs I suggest getting the Nexus 6 although I would say this phone is much better in my opinion but I miss and will continue to miss the variety of ROMs and customizations from my Nexus 6 as well as the screen and front facing speakers. Biggest benefit over the nexus 6 is the camera as well as the size/design/weight. As far as the battery I highly highly suggest using nova launcher instead of the stock LG and disable the LG apps if you can makes the battery life way way better, also get the free battery and SD card that will help to Haha.

Are they waiting on the bounty to hit $15k or until they can get a solid app with no errors that they can charge for?
I think it's more about the app.

Well said sir,
I screwed up and bought a Note 4 because of the deal I was getting ($400 outright), I immediately put away my flashaholics LG G2, and head to XDA only to see the At&t Note 4 has no ROMS, Kernels, or TWRP. Could not be more disappointed, a phone that should be a beast is hampered by no root. I would never touch the G4 or any other phone without full permanent root available in first 90 days of retail release. You are better off waiting to see what the new 2015 Moto X, Nexus ??, and OnePlus 2 will offer.
Hey all,
I'm almost ready to make my switch (from AT&T to Verizon). I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 that I put Candy5 ROM on it, and I really liked it, so I'm planning on trying that on an LG G4. I like the built in Privacy Guard and Ad Blocker....but as I read these forums it doesn't appear that Candy is developed for the G4. Advice...go with the G4 and see what other ROM's will be similar, or go with the G3 as I'm getting major discounts and a choice of phones? Thank you much.

TL;DR If you need a rom, wait, if you can get by without it, I highly suggest the G4.
At the moment, there are no ROMS for the Verizon variant of the LG g4. You can root and disable some of the bloat wear, but that is about it. We don't have custom roms because the bootloader is still locked and this prevents us from installing a custom recovery (such as TWRP) that would allow you to install a ROM (if one existed).
If your hopes are to put a ROM on the LG G4, then I suggest you wait until the bootloader unlock happens (if it ever does).
HOWEVER, and you can take this with a grain or cup or whatever of salt, I had a Note 3. The development on it was extremely slow because it too had a locked bootloader. We used a program called SafeStrap which allowed stock based ROMs to be installed and deployed to the device. Another option was FlashFire which allowed you to flash a ROM, backup, or update from inside the device. So there are options available to get a ROM on the device, if they existed, but they would have to be stock based.
Both of these tools helped to bring some ROMS to the Note 3, but never succeed in providing a CM based rom.
I am a heavy ROM freak. I love to flash new ROMs, everyday if I can get by with it, but I usually test them for a few weeks and document how the ROM functioned on the device.
Normally my major complaints (coming from samsung) would be the bloatware and the UI overlay that the mother company puts in, such as Touchwiz. But I think that LG did a REALLY good job of keeping the bloat down, the UI smooth and nonintrusive (the same CAN NOT BE SAID FOR VERIZON!!! Their bloatware is atrocious and they have ways of spying on your device to see what is running and if you are rooted), so even though LG did a great job Verizon screwed the pooch, as always.
I really enjoyed the stock elements that LG brought to the LG G4, and all in all I say its a good switch. The device has a good battery life with the stock battery, there are tweaks with Xposed to make the DPI a little more manageable, and the Phone, at least my phone, is super smooth with NO crashes to this day! If you can get by without a ROM, I think the G4 would be a good upgrade.
If you HAVE to have a custom ROM, I suggest you wait a little longer to see what happens with the Bootloader.
If you have the ability buy one of the H815 European versions of the G4, LG will allow you to unlock the bootloader on the device which will allow you to install TWRP, and there is already a ROM for it!
Hope this helps!
I love my G4, don't get me wrong, but I just pre-ordered a Moto X Pure (starts at $399 - no contract price) and it's 100% unlocked for all carriers. You can use it on AT&T (with full LTE) for now and bring it to Verizon when you're ready. We know that the bootloader is unlockable so as soon as people begin receiving these phones, XDA will blow up with development. And this phone will be on of the first to receive Android M since it's running pure (or close to it) Android.
Again, the G4 is an amazing phone and has quite possibly one of the best cameras available. But if you're looking for roms and development you're going to find yourself checking a bare forum every day just to respond to off topic posts. The MXP is the clear winner for development and it hasn't even started shipping yet.

My sentiments exactly. I couldn't wait for the G4. Slick design, leather back, great camera. A class act phone, but I don't want to keep waiting, and hoping, that the bootloader gets unlocked. The MXP has almost the same specs, and I know development will be huge. Gotta feed the need.

I got 2 64gb's coming 9/21. Unless the G4 gets some development soon, that might be my last day using it.

Sucks for you. Mine comes next Thursday.
As others have said, there are no ROMs out there currently for the Verizon G4.
No roms yet for the LG G4 but honestly the stock rom is golden. I've been a fan of stock LG ROMS since the G2. It's just about as close to vanilla as you're going to get.
Your best bet is to root, debloat, then install xposed, change your launcher to Google Now Launcher, then install the GEL xposed app (to change grid sizes, tweaks to launcher, etc).

Huh? I'm sorry, but LG is one of the furthest from stock Android out there.
Motorola and Sony are much closer to stock.

LG is much closer to stock than HTC or Samsung. The last moto x i played on felt identical to stock android so i assumed it was. Ive never had a sony.

Im also considering ditching my G4 for X Pure entirely because of the GUI and no root/roms. The GUI is not even close to vanilla. In fact from everything I've read on the forums the stock launcher was merely ported straight from the G3's KK ROM and doesn't include any/many updates for L. No support for native equalizer.
G4's battery life is mediocre at best, but receiving a free spare from LG and it being removable in general is a big plus. The display on the G4 is above average. If i could have an unlocked bootloader G4 with AOSP it would probably be perfect.

My Pure is being delivered today. I can't wait for the devs to get theirs, so I can start flashing ROMs again. It's been a long three months. :victory:

What color combination did you get? The Pure is really intriguing, but I want to see reviews first and make sure it gets rooted.

Just got the black/gray, and I'm not worried one bit about it getting rooted. With an unlockable bootloader I'm sure there will be mad development. I love my G4, but I'm not holding out much hope for the bootloader at this point.
Got my 32gb white/bamboo MXPE arriving on Friday... Goodbye G4! (Sorry to hijack the thread)
Getting rid of the g4 was hard, but the nexus 6 is working well at this point. I forgot how nice it is to have a working touch screen.

I'm tired of waiting also. The only thing that has prevented me from ordering the mxp so far is the possibility that the g4 pro is going to be an awesome phone. I'm sure it will have the same development issues as the g4 but if the spec rumors are close I might can live with it....lol
