Hello my friends. The time has come for me to let the optimus g and try a new phone. I said that i won't buy LG anymore... because they gave a s**t kitkat update to our G .. but they gave it anyway , so I will try possible my last LG Phone.
So i bought an LG G Pro 2.(3 gb of ram + kitkat from factory) . Hope the phone will get lg g3 ui though.
What i want to say.. for people who know.. we have a group on facebook:

I will continue to support this group(moderate+add new users).
However it's time to pass the legacy to another optimus G user... so feel free to apply for admin function in the group.

I plan to keep my OG for a while yet, can't find the perfect rom though...always something messed up. I only bought mine last October and rooted and rom'd it out of the box. I think I'll keep it for another year or 18 months, then I'll have probably broken it somehow be it cracking it or bricking it. But, after everything, this is my favourite phone...ever. Best phone I've ever owned. Period.

Try Omnirom's official nightlies, been using those for a while now and everything is perfect, also on some of the builds battery is amazing. You could also use stock, if you have an E975 you can already flash the KDZ, if you have an E977 or ATT, T mobile optimus g, well, you will have to wait a bit more just like me pal.

Brand new phone and already hoping to receive update (flat ui). Bad choice man. Anyway good luck.
In my opinion upgrade from G to G2 not worth it for general usage day-to-day.
i keep this phone for a time, until android L is official release, since LG will not upgrade to Android L & need it for Android Development then will switch to a nexus or other LG phone

The thing I love about the G is the clean lines of the device. That being said the teaser G Pro pics show what looks like a physical home button similar to the GS3. If the G Pro or whatever is coming after that have physical home buttons would you buy one?

Samsung took 5 months to get Jellybean out for the S3. LG got it out in a little over 12 wks with carrier approval in Korea.

it's not only about the update rate. Also, don't forget jellybean wasnt out when samsung phone went out. Now, android 4.2.1 is out and that phone was coming with 4.0.4. The repair center is a joke, The build quality is questionnable (Craked glass everywhere from not even a foot) and the code is attrocious. LG is not going back on the track, it's getting worse.

Could not agree with you there.
LG is clearly among the best manufacturers and maintains a high quality of their products.
Samsung is not at that level with SGS3.
But as many have already said, the problem of LG's service updates.
Also disagree.. lg og is easily and without a doubt the best phone I've ever owned.. the build quality is superior to other phones and it feels durable but at the same time lightweight.
Say what you will about the software updates, but it sounds to me like when it comes to LG handsets many people are stuck in the past.
would you buy one ? - only if LG comes up with something to lure me away from current and upcoming 1080p flagships and i don't expect the something to be the inclusion of a mere home button . that being said a button won't be the deciding factor if the actual smartphone has tricks worth buying up its sleeve
why fix it if it ain't broken ?
@Chad The Galaxy Nexus got Jellybean on July 11th the GS3 was released 2 weeks before that and you know Samsung had the code because the Galaxy Nexus is a Samsung device. It took a whole 5 months before it would hit the first us carrier. The G should have been released with Jellybean but you have to give them credit that Jellybean is already out in Korea.

You was probably saying that when Samsung was struggling to get updates out on the Galaxy S1 devices. Now look at them now.
LG has thoroughly impressed me with this device and I will most definitely look forward to future devices from LG. This phone is a winner and I'm not gonna cry about updates, which by the way is the number 1 complaint when it comes to any manufacture here on XDA.
This phone does everything I needed to do with or without the update.

@Wangz It looks like you are frustrated with the G because you have Jellybean and there is no root yet. The source codes are not even out yet. Your best bet is to LGNPST back to a earlier version and reroot and wait for a rooted Jellybean rom to show up on XDA to flash. Ask the guys on the Sprint Optimus G forum for help they are awesome!

Nope, i was saying that when i got a Galaxy S II. My next device was a galaxy nexus, which when i bought it felt already out of date. So i said to my self, i'm never buying again from samsung (Yet, all the biggies about how samsung is bad were started at that time and it was not so much after codeworkx decided to not work anymore on exynos device. Another good reason to not buy samsung again) So i bought this LG phone. Could'nt be more deceived.

no, i love the android OS. I'll probably go to sony and hope to not be deceived.
I got an LG device just to have something different (been with Samsung for more than 2 years). I am not into development and stuff so I can't comment on source codes documentation release etc. But I can say that it's not even 1% chance that my next device would be from LG. Maybe trying the most hated manufacturers for locking bootloaders like HTC and Motorola, or going back to Samsung on my next one.
But don't get me wrong. LGOG is a great device and does all I need.
Good luck then!
I honestly think there's no "perfect phone" anyway. So I'll deal with the "lesser evil" in what is currently available when changing device.
LG, just like any maker, is "slow to update"
Nexus' are fast on the updates but most lilely will lack an interesting feature
If you look at the current flagship offered by sony, the Experia T, it doesn't looks like it's running Jelly Bean quite yet. The Xperia Z (which is "comming soon") would be running it, but it's not even out yet... And don't expect Sony to release update any faster than the other makers for the "next" android release!

as he says we're working I don't think that he's a random guy. and you know, LG admins don not have the right to announce anything until they arre told to do. So they act more conservative. look at the screenshot attached. Some information are company confidential. But the employees are more free to do it. I mean even if he's not true about next month he must be true about the coming of the update.

The G2 already has 4.4 In Korea tho.
World wide, I meant.
Let's study the situation a bit deeper.
reasons we get the update:
1. if we consider the 18 months period of recieving updates, we still have 4 months left. G was released in October, 2012
2. I think except for the initial batch, most of the devices had Jelly bean 4.1.2 while being sold and they still have the same version. So there should be at least an update to a higher version.
3. Physically the device has all the potentials to be upgraded to kitkat and as a previous flagship deserves to get it.
4. the leaked news says that they were testing kitkat on both g pro and g. Now that they are releasing the update for g pro by the end of Q2. There should be an update for g as well since we know that the device doesn't lack anything to run kitkat smoothly.
resons no to get it
1. Why should a company care for a phone from 2012 while there are so many other new phones 2013 onward?
Well I think we have more reasons to get it than not to get it.
to get or not to get. this is the question
and look
Samsung officially announced the models which will get kitkat. Among them you can see Note 2 which was released in September, 2012 and Galaxy S3 which was released in July, 2012!!
So let's keep our fingers crossed

Standard canned response telling nothing at all. They'll forward the request! Dosen't mean LGOG is getting anything as of now.
Heeeeeeey
I didn't forget anything. I have written the question everywhere and I've got the same response as the one you attached. I myself attached one last page.
They are not allowed to announce anything. Actually they don't know anything. They are simply page admins. Whenever they say something it's not true or exact. No one knows exactly when everything will be ready but I believe it will be ready one day not so far from today.
Hey folks. Looking at the G3, but I'm wondering how good LG has been with keeping their previous phones up to date. I know we have custom roms, but even those tend to be better if made from an official release. Anyone have past experience with LG?
Most of it is due to your carrier, but LG getting it there is on the slower side as well.

Problem is, you can never really tell if its the mfg or the carrier that makes this process so incredibly s-l-o-w

Of course its your carrier which is to blame. I've bought F320K and have had my kitkat on Christmas present, around 27 December. Yes, stock Kitkat on G2 was available before New Years eve.
yeah, that is probably the case; although, of course, when I would call tmobile and ask why there was no update out, they always said that LG hadnt released it to them, so you can't really know who was feeding the line of BS to folks..

agreed; I never call them when I really want to know the "facts"; I do have a inside contact in mgmt at T-Mobile, who all along admitted they weren't sure when kit kat was actually going to be out for the 2 lg phones I have..
my only point was if you are buying a phone from any of the domestic carriers in the USA, you can never really be sure when and if your OS will be updated, so if that's important to you, a unlocked, international model might be a better choice. What annoyed me was the "implied" promise of kit kat, on the G2 and the Flex from LG never actually turned out to be accurate, and, as I said, It took 6 months for kit kat to come to the Flex, which seems crazy, for their "cutting edge, top of the line" product..
Chances are that if you are not receiving updates it is only because your carrier doesn't give a rats ass about your satisfaction. Un-branded and unlocked devices typically receive updates shortly after new versions are released by Google. The order of major manufacturers' speed in updating software goes like this:
Motorola
HTC
Samsung
LG.
I highly recommend unlocked devices if you have the money to spend. However if you a poor schmuck like me and rely on contract devices, then you can either root and flash custom ROMS (say goodbye to warranty) or suffer in eternal damnation like the damn peasants that we are (according to carriers).

Korean version will be the first device to be updated.
Only then LG will work on Int'l version.
Of course US Residents(Tmo,att, verzion, sprint etc..) will get updates later than the int'l version due to carriers.
As far as I know, G2 int'l version got kitkat two or three months later the Korean version got it...
I know this so well because I have been watching LG from Optimus LTE2 (Currently using)... (G G Pro G2 GFlex Gpro2) - I am Korean
Samsung and HTC used to be notorious for slow updates, now LG has the tag. With any of the new Flagships (S series, M series, G series) updates will be in line with each other. My G2 got Kit Kat on T-Mobile before my wifes HTC M7 did.
Goodnight pals, after a conversation with a friend and a couple of beers :silly::laugh:, I decided to sell my G Pro and replace for an HTC One M8 , well I would like to say thanks for the good reception, now I'm going to the M8 forum but my stocks roms for LG G Pro will continue active , thank you all and success . blessings

I switched from Sammy note 1 to G2 then G3 and now have both G3 & G4. Never need run custom ROM B4. Only Stock ROM and Cloudyfa's Stock ROM. I just love the LG UX.
Now with G4 's UX 4.0 simply awesome. No lagging for me for I only have G4 for 2 days and no root. IDK what to tell you try it don't like it just return it xD. Even my 1 year old low end LG Gpad 7.0 V400 got Lollipop OTA update in April. What to complain when LG USA MOBILE send me a Brand New LG G4 H815 to keep.
Great story, but can you answer the question the Op asked? How quickly do LG put out updates, eg. how quickly did they update from kitkat to lollipop?
Yeah, I'm wondering because it took my Z3 about an eon to update from 4.4.2 to 5.0.1, and that I really did not like. But hopefully this is an easier device to fiddle with when it comes to root and recovery than my old Z3, which was a pain in the butt sometimes. Had a good experience with my previous LG Optimus 4X HD when it came to getting it rooted with custom recovery, but man that phone is so old that it just lags when you barely look at it.

Great story, but can you answer the question the Op asked? How quickly do LG put out updates, eg. how quickly did they update from kitkat to lollipop?

How fast? I remember G3 is the first to get Lollipop b4 nexus. The leaked version was out earlier. Here the articles

So there.

True, but also keep in mind (stock) Lollipop for some devices is still FUBAR. For example t-mobile G3.
OP: In the end 90% of the delay in a device getting an update is not the manufacturer, Its the carrier. That's why things like Nexus phones and GE phones were able to get updates fairly rapidly. The manufacturer takes the source, compiles with/against their own custom code and a bit of testing and its done. This should likely take less than 2 weeks after source drop.
What takes so long is carriers with all their bloat (getting it to work) and also making sure they have locked you down enough to make them happy and to keep any lucrative government contracts they have that require a certain immutability of the phones core OS for security reasons. This part can take months. My kids LG Stylo is T-mo branded and the T-mo my account app still crashes all the time.

Thanks for the info... Not sure what the childish 'so there' was about though!

That's exactly why I always go for sim-free phones and avoid the networks/carriers - much better chance of getting updates sooner (although I appreciate the short-term expense makes this unavailable to some).
Unless you have a Nexus device, I wouldn't even hope to get updates. The G2 was slow as hell, and only received 1 update ever with TMO.
Updates from LG are really good and fast. I have G3 and I can not complain.
Great story
hopefully lg goes straight to android m
Depends on the device. In the UK no G2s have Lollipop yet. Not even SIM free ones.
