CWM OR TWRP : The Better One - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

The first thing i would clear is that this is solely my personal opinion. At the end it's your wish what you want to do.
So there are 3 recoveries : CWM , Philz ( based on CWM ) and TWRP . Each one has its own merits and demerits . I currently use the TWRP . It's touch interface is a huge advantage over CWM . Also most developers like developing their projects with TWRP . It also has advanced backup options where we can select specific partitions we want to back up . Also , while backing up , you can lock the recovery , basically it turns off the screen . Thereby saving battery . And it has more no. Of more options than CWM .
Bugs in TWRP : I found none . Many threads tell that there are bugs in TWRP but I've been using it since a month and I came across no problems flashing any ROMs
How to Flash : I've written a post on this too " Easiest way to Flash or Change a recovery [Root] "
So I would recommend TWRP to anyone who's looking for the answer.
Hope this helped , and if it did, don't forget to press the thanks button

I would have to agree with you that TWRP is probably the better recovery to use based on simplicity and practicality.

It is possible to flash a ROM with the original recovery system if the ROM you want is a FLASHABLE zip. However, the original recovery utility doesn't have the function of backup/restore, that means u won't be able to make a Nandroid (backup) of your current ROM. If something goes wrong during the flashing of new ROM, your phone might be soft-bricked.
Think twice before you do that. My recommendation is to use the CWM recovery by acro68. That's the safest way.

I can answer this question: it is impossible. There are certain problems in work of this Mod. The first: does'nt making full nandroid backup. The second: does'nt flashing boot.img. It is necessary to develop this program still. But something, already is able: root, interface modding, ect....
Howdy.
I have flashed this recovery image and for the first time, can boot into recovery and see what I'm meant to see! Thanks. Previously (2012 hardware) I just hung on the white HTC logo screen.
Now, if I select backup and restore, press the power button, all the text disappears and I'm left with the central hat image... but nothing much happens. Pressing power again brings me back to the main menu. Same thing with -power off. The top option of reboot system now works just fine.
Any ideas? I'd like to backup my current system before flashing WildChild 3, you know - just in case anything goes wrong!
EDIT: immediate edit. cancel all of the above, I'm just new to recovery (obviously!). I went through the main menu a few times, it told me the back button was now active and away I go - backing up as we speak! Apologies!!! and thanks!

You must press one time into recovery volume + and several time volume - , while apear "back button is enable" and then such as in any cmw.

I've updated ramdisk with the touch recovery branch, I will add it here but use at your own risk. Feel free to add it against your thread if you wish surdu_petru.
Since this is using a similar method to our previous I don't see how any harm could come from it.

Corrected, it can now run Touch Recovery I've just installed and tested. Everything appears to be working. Including Backup.
When rebooting from CWM Touch Recovery Bootloader Version ensure you select no when prompted - No, Yes and Go back. If you select yes it wipes the scripts required for this method to run meaning you will need to redo the CWM installation again. However option "No" retains those required files even on reboot from CWM.
@surdu_petru - We need to collaborate our efforts with xda member kholk you can follow his progress to implement kexec support here for the Honor 2 which has near identical HW to us.
I messaged kholk already and received a swift response via PM stating that work is still in the early stages and when further information and progress has been made he'd like to join efforts with myself in order to yield the same for the P6.
In the meantime your nifty boot script allowing boot-time user intervention in order to access recovery has taken the frustrating part of developing for our device away.
You might have noticed I have added your development with my amended Touch Recovery update to my existing thread here. I have credited you along with a link back here in order to rightfully state ownership of your findings and work. If there are any issues don't hesitate to PM me and I will happily take down any links of concern.

Thank you very much !
If we can run kexec kernel on our device is equal with : we can run CyanogenMod on our device!
Also he made kexec kernel on Motorola Droid RAZR locked boot loader...!!!
I have this device expressed for development...so I'll do all for running on our device AOSP based ROMs!
Good luck and have a nice day! :highfive:

What recovery to flash for SPH-D710?

What recovery do I flash, so that I can install Cyanogenmod 11? TWRP doesn't support SPH-D710 so I can't use TWRP. I tried using Rom Manager to install Clockwork Mod and it worked but when I booted into the recovery I couldn't select things using the volume buttons. The volume buttons did not move anything up or down. And since it's not a touch based ROM I couldn't do anything. I searched and found PhilZ, but the site that hosted the files is down (goo.im). Presumably forever. I tried flashing Cyanogenmod 11 using the Agat Recovery, but it didn't work, so I can't use that either. What are my options? PhilZ seemed to be the only recovery that supported SPH-D710. Is there a mirror for the files? .tar files to be specific (for Odin) because I don't know how to flash the .img files considering that Flashify freezes and Flashfire isn't supported on this phone. Thanks for reading!

The recovery for this device is included with the kernal . If you search this forum theres at least 25 post with detailed instructions for the process to get el29 kernal on the device and work your way to getting kitkat going . There's even youtube videos with step by step instructions . Google epic 4g touch cm11 . Tons of tutorials out there . Forget those recovery's your trying . You could probably use Lanchons kernal as well . It's all here .

You make it sound so easy. I've been at this for 3 days and somehow haven't hard bricked my phone yet, but I also haven't gotten past installing recovery mods. All the instructions I've found say that I need either cwm or twrp or philz, so far I've gotten StockCWMel26.md5 installed but after that I get stuck on the reboot. CM11 fails with status 7. The CM wiki installation says I just need to be in recovery and have cm11 on the sdcard, doesn't work. Another guide tells me I need cm10.2 installed first and then I can move to cm11 from there, but I can't seem to find a working link for 10.2
