What recovery do I flash, so that I can install Cyanogenmod 11? TWRP doesn't support SPH-D710 so I can't use TWRP. I tried using Rom Manager to install Clockwork Mod and it worked but when I booted into the recovery I couldn't select things using the volume buttons. The volume buttons did not move anything up or down. And since it's not a touch based ROM I couldn't do anything. I searched and found PhilZ, but the site that hosted the files is down (goo.im). Presumably forever. I tried flashing Cyanogenmod 11 using the Agat Recovery, but it didn't work, so I can't use that either. What are my options? PhilZ seemed to be the only recovery that supported SPH-D710. Is there a mirror for the files? .tar files to be specific (for Odin) because I don't know how to flash the .img files considering that Flashify freezes and Flashfire isn't supported on this phone. Thanks for reading!

The recovery for this device is included with the kernal . If you search this forum theres at least 25 post with detailed instructions for the process to get el29 kernal on the device and work your way to getting kitkat going . There's even youtube videos with step by step instructions . Google epic 4g touch cm11 . Tons of tutorials out there . Forget those recovery's your trying . You could probably use Lanchons kernal as well . It's all here .

You make it sound so easy. I've been at this for 3 days and somehow haven't hard bricked my phone yet, but I also haven't gotten past installing recovery mods. All the instructions I've found say that I need either cwm or twrp or philz, so far I've gotten StockCWMel26.md5 installed but after that I get stuck on the reboot. CM11 fails with status 7. The CM wiki installation says I just need to be in recovery and have cm11 on the sdcard, doesn't work. Another guide tells me I need cm10.2 installed first and then I can move to cm11 from there, but I can't seem to find a working link for 10.2

Hi everyone,
I was playing around with the app Secret Codes from the F-Droid repo. The first code that I try was something related to updating v500's firmware (i don't really like the Stock ROM, I'm waitin for CM first stable build. It suddenly rebooted into Philz recovery and it keeps booting into recovery every time. There's no way to boot normally.
I am on a rooted v500, with Philz and TWRP recoveries flashed in it.
This poor stupid fool would need some help.
Thanks a lot.

How, when, where?!?! I can't find it. Thenks.
My current situation is as follows:
My G Pad is in an eternal loop into recovery. Philz recovery to be precise. I do not have the drivers for Win 7 so I have to sideload CM or anything I wan't to copy to the sd. I sideload CM's last nightly but it doesn't install at all. It, apparently, requieres Aroma file manager. I sideload it too, install it and execute it but the only thing this file manager seems to do is to copy/cut/paste/create new folders... but not flash zip files.
I've changed the storage to 0 but it just won't work either.
I'm super stuck. Any help is very welcome.
in case you want to restore back to full stock (recovery and rom) use the lg mobile support tool. Take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590185 or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370

I couldn't be more grateful. You unbricked my heart!
Hello
I own Ouya for the month but most of time I use it as media-box for TV (watching movies, etc)
I have already rooted it and installed play market but i hate the stock UI and obsolate android
I saw a video in youtube with CM11 and ouya (android 4.4) and started to google the solution
I already know that it is based on Eternity Project kernel.
I found the way to install bootloader http://www.eternityproject.eu/topic/1114365-eternityproject-tpl-bootloader-for-ouya/ and it is clear
The next step is to install kernel http://www.eternityproject.eu/topic/1114362-eternityproject-kernel-3437-for-ouya-cpu-2ghz-gpu-650mhz/ but it is unclear for me about fastboot command
The next step as I understand is to install CM11 from the CWM
Is it possible to install KitKat without EP kernel?
So If someone have detailed steps or howto on installing CM11 on ouya please give it to this thread
Thanks in advance
I think this is what you're looking for. I'm not sure the EP boot loader is compatible but I'm sure its mentioned in the thread somewhere. Or in the bootmenu thread anyway.

This is the order you need to go:
Upgrade to newest clockwork mod from milaq in your recovery.
Then install the failsafe bootloader.
Then install cm11 from the new recovery, along with gapps he posted in the same thread Make sure to wipe all the stock stuff.
Thats it.

Its hard to lay it out, you need to go to the threads where the info is already layed out.
Do you already have a custom recovery installed like clockwork? Great, then go to the failsafe thread to get a newer version of the recovery, and the failsafe installer. If you do not, you need to go to the custom recovery threads as there are multiple, and get any type of custom recovery installed. Then from there, install the newer custom recovery from the failsafe thread, then the failsafe itself from within the new custom recovery, then from there you can install cm11 using the cm11 thread following the instructions.

Just realized cwm is removed, can't install using oneclickrecovery tool either fails says cannot find img etcetc, yet its all there no problems adb is fine and works.Fastboot driver i can't get running although listed yellow exclamation, any ideas?
Fixed it managed to get fastboot going downloaded the required missing dll files and win_usb.inf set up and used ouyatoolbox 1.0.0.0 to rewrite recovery, found i can no longer add the newer 6.0.4.8 recovery zip in update from zip in 6.0.3.2 recovery though? Used to be able to do that. Any way tmore to the point is can someone tell me the step by step process to add cm11 firmware so i don't have to read a load of [email protected] that doesn't end up giving less than nothing in terms of having a clue how, someone in the thread writes about erasing stuff and what oreder but that doesn't tell you how to install or what erase process is or anything detailed and the net has exactly the same misguided tutorials on how to do it.Tellinng a newbie to erase stuff means they will erase all the wrong stuff in all fairness it's good to have a slightly better idea by reading that but it doesn't go in depth or step by step.
All i have found is sites pointing back to the xda pages that do not explain it,it's like your expected to know everything before you have been taught and fill in the gaps off the top of your head.

Exactly what he said, I just did these same steps on a 3rd new ouya yesterday and it went off without a hitch. The cm11 thread is long but honestly all the information you need is in the first few posts. If you were able to connect the ouya to USB and run oneclickroot then you're ready to get started.
Ok... I'm a complete noob (saibot) when it comes to recoveries. I've been used to rooting for years but never wanted anything other than the stock rom/recovery until recently when I had to unbrick my phone after making a stupid error. Now, I want to gain acceptance into the CWM world and for some reason it isn't working.
What I've tried:
1) Downloading the recovery from the CWM official website. I downloaded the touch one.
2) Since the file was in img form (why?) I used a converter to change it into TarMD5
3) I tried flashing it with Odin 3.09
4) It showed a green "Reboot" where most have shown "Recovery" in the videos I watched before attempting.
5) And that's all it did was reboot instead of installing the custom recovery.
What did I do wrong? And why am I not as awesome as I think I am? Help! :crying:

What you did wrong was using or trying to flash/use CWM recovery in the first place.
Here is the correct way to flash root and custom recovery:
Step #1
Download and Odin flash cf-autoroot: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45687485/CF-Auto-Root-hltetmo-hltetmo-smn900t.tar.md5
Step #2
Download and Odin flash TWRP 2.7.2.0: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45687485/TWRP_2720.tar
After doing the above you will no longer have any root or recovery issues.
For best results use Odin v1.85 which can be found here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45687485/Odin85.zip
Good luck!
Thank you for your reply.... So, am I to understand that CWM will not work at all on my Note 3?
Before your reply, I tried out TWRP 2.8 and it was really laggy... Should I go and get 2.7.2 instead?

Lot's of people have been having issues with cwm recovery ever since
the NF1 official Samsung N900T firmware was released.
TWRP 2.7.2.0 works perfectly on all N900T Note 3 roms.
The download link I posted is specifically made for the
Note 3 N900T, not all versions of twrp work properly with
all phones and or all models.
Good luck!

KINDLY HELP ME....!!
There is no need to root a phone before installing a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP.
I would use TWRP in place of CWM as CWM is no longer being developed.
If you install Cyanogen recovery, it will replace your existing recovery. I find TWRP to be more flexible that Cyanogen recovery.
LP Cyanogen is cm13 and you should use TWRP to install cm13 ROMs. The AT&T s3 i747 is also known as the d2lte and d2att. ROMs designed for either of these two devices will work on your phone (although maybe not 100%). There is no official CM13 ROM for the s3.
@audit13 , just a quick question ; (because am certainly not as up to date with the wonderful s3) but isnt cm13 MM ? or am i wrong:what:

I guess I'm spending too much time bouncing between the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Note 3, s3, and s4 forums!
I came across the different threads about bootloader...i have the bootloader version (I747UCUFNE4).Is that safe to flash the CM-12.1-20160212-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip on my above specified device without bricking my device????
Cm does not touch the bootloader or modem so you should be fine but there is always the chance the something else goes wrong.

I am saying CWM touch recovery because TWRP manager hangs installing the latest recovery on my device may b it is because of i use ROM manager firstly to install the latest CWM recovery?

@ audit13
i believe what @audit13 said was CWM is no longer being developed. twrp recovery is preferred by most people because they are still making it better. CWM hasnt an update in years.
also if you currently have cyanogen recovery it will be wiped by flashing either CWM or twrp.
yes you can use CWM to install CM12. but again ; twrp has more options and most people prefer it.
so ..... i personally would use twrp to install anything before i used cwm.
remember to make a backup of current setup just in case something goes wrong so that you can still have a working phone.

Hi, so recently my HTC One X has been acting up so I decided to install a ROM to make it much faster, so I had to unlock the bootloader. When i've done that I flashed CWM on my device. Then I tried to install a rom that was on the device and it didn't install which leads me to my first problem, the page said I needed to reset everything and use the fastboot command to flash the zip file that worked but when I went to CWM (to install gapps) the device never booted in the ROM just kept going back to CWM. So I googled this and there was multiple things I tired out like adb command etc also it would be easier if this problem was fixed if this button worked (mount USB storage) I press that and it does not work. So then I don't know what to do. I'm stuck here please help me the rom was cm-11-20160815-NIGHTLY-endeavoru.zip.

CWM was abandoned a long time ago in the community so it won't cope with the instructions modern roms use. Its a bit sad that CWM came to a such sudden end I kind of miss the different recoveries based on it. Not to mention philz touch recovery..
Anyway go here: (its a twrp recovery) http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-x/orig-development/storage-layout-hox-endeavoru-t3022358
Read the instructions and flash the provided .img file and your phone should be up and running within the hour.
Edit: I'm not sure if that rom uses the new or old layout. The documenation is more than a bit poor because the device info is outdated on the cyanogenmod wiki. Last edited in year 2012..

If the rom will not flash with the new layout recovery provided above.
Read instrutions how to revert to old layout first. And flash this older recovery from here:

Really? Didn't realise that... Im trying to charge my phone because I can't flash it because the battery is too low. So thanks for telling me. I will post when Ive flashed it to my phone. When you flash it dosen't get rid of all the roms that's already on the phone? Because I cant access the phone within usb but does this recovery solve that? Like mount usb storage like in CWM?

Flashing the recovery will not wipe anything except the recovery partition obviously. When you boot to twrp you will be able to access the internal storage by going to Mount and press the Mount usb storage twice. And the one x should be detected on your pc.
But when you're done with the backup you will wipe all partitions with the Format data option as described in the thread I linked yesterday. So backup all important data to your computer.
Thank you so much! I'm up and running!
