It is possible to flash a ROM with the original recovery system if the ROM you want is a FLASHABLE zip. However, the original recovery utility doesn't have the function of backup/restore, that means u won't be able to make a Nandroid (backup) of your current ROM. If something goes wrong during the flashing of new ROM, your phone might be soft-bricked.
Think twice before you do that. My recommendation is to use the CWM recovery by acro68. That's the safest way.

Need new powerful mod recovery

We need new powerful mod recovery like openRecovery in Xt702. It`s install in SDcard and run in nomal Recovery ->Apply SDCARD:update.zip, can fully backup and restore Boot.img and Recovery.img ....
Who is this 'we' you are referring to?
Perhaps you should share which issues you are running into, prompting you to suggest you want a different recovery tool.
You are discussing the same topic we are trying in another topic. Look at the topic where some are trying to create a signed update.zip that can be used from stock recovery. I dont know how far this will take us but its something worth putting your mind if you are getting stuck in process of using tenfar recovery.

Guys WhAt Is Difference in FLasHInG A rom By Cwm REcoVerY OR StoCK

custom roms are modified versions of your current stock rom to make it beautiful and faster.
flashable zips are of 2 types:
1. They are made for updating/adding something in your current rom.
2. Its a file format which lets you to install things using cwm. It can be a rom itself too!

CWM has more options and very simple to understand and use!
STOCK=less option.... hard to use... some times its cause a boot loop!

u can flash a rom from stock recovery too but as I said above, it is recommended to use so that u can restore ur phone if something goes wrong. Wen i tried to flash boot.img frm stock recovery it gave an error but wen u flash it from cwm it is successful . Any more doubts or are you still unsatisfied? ASK MORE!

Yes I am!!
its depends on scripting... stock recovery runs only amend scripting but cwm 3.0 or later edify scrpiting... and it has so many options then stock... one notable option and frequently using option is dalvik cache wipe... this is y most of em prefer cwm...
I GUESS THIS IS THE ANSWER... BUT IM NOT SURE ABOUT... GOOGLE IT FOR MORE INFO... I READ IT SOMEWHERE ONCE UPON A TIME... SO I FORGET SOME OF THE THINGS...
stock recovery require your zip to be signed for security reason. cmw is not. signing itself is simple process that only need few second, but once you signing your zip you can't change it's content. you must resign your zip if you do. that's why some people prefer cmw, because you can easily change zip content with regular archive manager without resign.

Let's get to your qeury . . . Flashing via stock or CWM
With CWM Recovery you can:
Flash boot.img (kernel)
Flash Custom ROMS
Flash .zips without resinging packages
Choose what partition to be mounted during flash
With stock:
Flash boot.img (kernel) -but most kernel are ment to be flashed via CWM as it has a higher chance of success and less likely to cause bootloops
Flash Custom ROMS - but some ROMS use scripts that are NOT SUPPORTED by stock recovery
Flash .zips but requires zips to be signed and resigned if there are modifications on the package

that's not stock recovery problem, but custom rom problem. a lot of custom rom have poorly written (or generated) updater-script. rom dev put a lot of work on making his/her rom looks good, but give very small attention to installation process. some rom event try to mount /dev/stl19 to /system in instalation process. that partition not exist in sgy. and updater-script not depend to which recovery that you use. it's depend to updater-binary inside your zip file.

You need to follow the Instruction properly.
If it ask you to flash via CWM, then download CWM and put it into your SD directly.
Then goto Recovery mode and select update from SD then select CWM zip file to enter CWM.
Good luck.

nope...cwm won't minimize the risk. in fact, stock recovery is a lot safer than any 3rd party recovery.

there's several advantages of using cwm
1. more recovery option.
2. no need to sign the zip file
3. more installation capability. we can't install kernel via stock recovery.

I tried the rom manager but it can't extract the default recovery. However what I get now by searching for many hours that what I want is dumping the stock recovery and stock bootloader and combining into single .img file i.e bootl.img and recovery.img that I able to push back furing the normal running to get the stock recovery back and the bootloader without the ICE Engineer version showing after I flash the custom rom
twrp have the better ui but the one I found for 6200 have some problems I not remember but it had some issue mounting the system for wipe I think so I use the CMW instead both are good and perform the required function I suppose

[Q] Total noob here, need (probably very basic) help

Hello, first time poster here!
I bought Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 and I want to flash CM 11 on it, because the stock Samsung's ROM is very bloated and slow.
I am looking at CM 11 from NovaFusion, which can be found novafusion.pl website.
I have currently downloaded:
cm11.0_codina.nova.20141215.zip
pa_gapps-modular-pico-4.4.4-20150106-signed.zip
I chose pico gapps because I want as less bloat as possible (only actually need Play Store).
The problem is, I don't know what to do next...
Now, I have a few questions:
Can I just flash CM trough the stock/default recovery mode that is already on the phone?
Can I use Odin to flash CM? If so, where is a trusted Odin download?
How do I restore the stock ROM that came with the phone if something goes (terribly :silly wrong?
Is it possible to reset flash counter and any other traces of root & custom ROMs on this phone in case I want to return it to warranty?
I added the "About device" info in the attachment!
1. flash it trough cwm temporary
2. no, you can't. novafusion didn't release Odin package for codina now.
3. backup your stockrom using cwm temporary
4. flashing rom trough cwm not increase flash counter

Can you link me to CWM for this phone?
Also, how does the "temporary" mode work? Does it load up recovery from the microSD card? Just curious.

1. Well, I think the stock recovery doesn't allow you to install zip from sdcard. That's why we use CWM instead (plus it does more things than stock recovery). I recommend CWM
2. No, Custom ROM should be flashed through CWM, I think...
3. You can backup your current ROM (includes apps installed) through CWM and if something goes wrong, you can easily restore it from CWM again. BUT, if somehow you can't get to CWM, you can use ODIN to flash stock ROM and your phone should be back to its original state
4. Yup, it can be done from CWM or ODIN.. same method as in my 3rd answer
PS. I only gave answers to stuff I've done before.. basically, my answers are based on self-experience hope it helps!

Mm.. from what I remember... Temporary CWM will not replace your stock recovery, and you will need to flash the CWM everytime you want to get into CWM Recovery .-.

Here : Temporary CWM.
Thank you everyone, I got CM 11 working easy and nice! :good:
Also, looks like the NovaFusion CM 11 ROM did something to the recovery, now it always boots to CWM even without a microSD card.
Does that mean that I can't get back to old recovery? Can I just flash stock ROM and get it back?
P. S. everything is so damn fast and smooth compared to stock ROM!!!

Yes, Custom ROMs like CM 11 have CWM Recovery or TWRP instead of Stock Recovery because they have functions such as backup your system and more. If you really want to have Stock Recovery then you have to flash Stock ROM using Odin.

Right. Probably that's why most of the people here use Custom ROMs.
