Hi, would anyone with enough knowledge on this phone guide me as to what is wrong?
I have a xperia s which I have unlocked bootloader and flashed various custom ROMs from android 2.x all the way to android jelly bean 4.2.2
I always wipe all available partitions except for the internal sdcard before flashing any ROMs.
For some reason, I have tried to flash kitkat ROMs for this phone with different versions of TWRP, 2.6.3.0 up to 2.7.1.0 but it keeps failing with the same error:
set_metadata_recursive some changes failed
Error executing updater binary in .zip
I have tried to flash carbon rom, paranoidandroid ROMs which are all based on kitkat 4.4.4 and both fail with the same error, I do not want to reflash back a old ROM based on jelly bean I just want to bring this phone up to the latest version of android but this problem still persists no matter how many times I try.
Appreciate any help.

"Error executing updater binary in .zip" error occurs when the zip You are flashing does not have compatible script for that version of the cwm/twrp.
Do one thing, extract the boot.img from the rom which You want to flash on the pc.
Copy the rom.zip to the phone.
Then flash the boot.img using fastboot via pc.
Then flash the rom using twrp via phone which would be installed on the phone.

Hello guys, I've recently flashed TWRP recovery and tried to flash a 4.4 Kitkat rom onto my device.
I have a problem trying to install the rom. It keeps saying that there is no MD5 found.
And also could not create file for updater extract in /tmp/updater.
I've got everything that the rom requires such as the Hboot and Ext part. What's the issue here?
I've tried installing a lot of other roms but it keeps giving me this same error, I also can't flash 4ext using the flash from zip or anything. I always recieve the same error.

You could try disabling signature checking from recovery.
Trying to flash several ROMs on the latest version of Teamwin, and even a lower version after reading that it helped someone. Had to use ODIN recently and went back to a bone stock ROM, and now I rooted it and am trying to flash a custom ROM. Trying the latest SlimROM, Liquid, CM11, no luck.
Teamwin is saying "E: Error in /external_sdcard/ROM NAME
(Status 7)
Error flashing zip ' /external_sdcard/ROM NAME
Updating partition details. . ."
Any ideas before I re-ODIN my phone and go back to using a stock ROM?
Alright, I installed a JB stock ROM with bootloader via ODIN and I'll use this until tomorrow when I have more time. I'll re-root it, get a proper 4.3 ROM and give it a shot.
Did you give CWM a try?
Is there a reason your trying to use twr specifically?
Hi guys
I'm having some trouble with my HOX. I`m currently running a rooted droid running android revolution 33.1. I have CWM 6.0.3.2 as my current recovery and am trying to update to 6.0.4.8 so I can put slimkat 9.0 on my HOX. As I understand it the slimkat rom requires SELinux support for the rom to run and the latest version of CWM has this.
I have tried flashing the update using flashify and rom manager. Both say they have flashed correctly, however when i boot into recovery my version is still the current one im running. I have also tried using fastboot to flash the new recovery and it keeps coming up with "unknown error" in windows CMD. I have also tried apply update.zip from the recovery and i keep getting the error message "E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip no such file or directory". And the zip file i made is just called "recovery" and NOT "recovery.zip". I know this has caused trouble for other people, so this was the first thing I checked.
So I have a few questions. These are: Why fastboot won't flash the new recovery/why I get the error message "E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip no such file or directory"/ would i have to revert to stock rom and recovery and relock so I could re root the HOX and install the latest recovery.
Any and all help is welcome and greatly appreciated.

my cid is : htc_j15
Get the latest Firmware RUU.... Flash that and you should be able to flash any ROM. Make sure it has ALL of the firmware updates for your phone.
The errors you are getting are indicative of a Bad downloaded ROM or a corrupt ROM file.
Oh and when you install a new ROM wipe Dalvic Cache, Cache, System and Data.....
Don't forget to hit thanks!!
my a2 lite got the awful 10.0 update, and I tried to install a custom rom.
the only one that worked was the Avenger MIUI rom.
I'm using dees-troy's twrp 3.3.1
tried to reflash the stock img, it got me into booting only to fastboot mode.
I'm tired of the MIUI, can anyone explain to me step-by-step how to install any aosp-like rom?
back then, I had error number 7, and on my last try, after trying to flash back and such, it couldn't mount the storage correctly.
right now I have an error:
E:recv error on uevent

You need:
twrp-installer-daisy-3.2.3-0-offain (or higher)
Also when you install AOSP based rom you'll have to change A/B slots before rebooting. Most of the roms have step by step guide on the first page / post.
