Very strange SD card issues. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I have a Sprint Galaxy S3 with a 16GB Samsung SD card. In attempt to transfer the music from the SD card to my computer's hard-drive (via a USB cardreader), the transfer really began to hang and throw some odd errors. Not thinking, I pulled the cardreader out of the USB port during the transfer. Since then, I cannot get the SD card to be recognized in Windows at all (through a USB to phone or through the cardreader). The only thing that appears is the S3 itself and the internal storage. When I put the SD card back in the phone, it is showing a "Removed SD card" error and it isn't showing anything about the card under Settings>Storage. Only the internal storage is displayed and everything under "SD card" is greyed out. There is no option to mount the card at all and I'm unable to format the card through the phone or computer. I realize that removing the cardreader during the transfer probably corrupted the SD card. Is there anyway at all of reformatting this card and getting it functional again? I've tried TestDisk, but the problem is that the SD card isn't showing up anywhere at this point. Is it permanently bricked?

Try to download SD format tool from the web and make Low Level Format.
But before that try another card reader.

If that doesn't work, download the free Windows tool USBit. It has a reset button which will overwrite a couple key blocks on your SD card. Don't hold your breath but it did work for me in a couple extreme circumstances like yours.

Those errors are likely caused by a hardware error (bad internal memory chip): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039504
Hey rickyiswhite, I've experienced the same problem with my htc hd2. I am not hundred percent sure how and why this happened, but I managed to get my phone back to life. Here are two methods which I think might help you.
1. You might be missing 'initrid' and 'zImage' files in your sd card. You need these two files to flash new rom from your sd card otherwise the phone cant 'recognize' your sd card. You can find these two files from any rom you have downloaded, just copy and paste them into your sd card's root folder.
2. If this is not the case, I would recommend you to format your sd card (fat 32, i tried once to format my sd card to ntfs, and kind of destroyed it), and clear everything inside your phone using 'task29', which means you will lose everything stored inside your phone and sd card. Then you can uninstall and reinstall the HSPL (this might not be necessary, but I did that, just to make sure everything is cleared). Afterwards you just have to flash the radio and the magldr back. What's left now is to copy your rom into your sd card, remember to copy the 'initrd' and 'zImage' as well, and flash the rom, done!
However, I can't guarantee this would work because you know, different devices, so you have to take your own risk and responsibility to do this. FYI, you can also flash a new rom through computer, using the DFT.exe inside the rom. But currently most of the roms are flashed through magldr or clk, so it would take you some time to find the rom that can be flashed directly via computer.
Anyway, good luck to you, and hope these tips might help

[Q]ROM Manager default location?

Is there a way to get ROM MANGER to default to the Internal "SD" card for backups? It always goes to my external card.
I know I can manually launch clockworkmod and select "internal SD" but I would rather do it from within the O/S so I can name the files.
you can always rename the files however you like with any file editor to rename them
and you can move the zip files around to either Internal SD or External SD
personally i like them on the External SD better to safe space on my Internal SD
I do that but like the convenience of doing it from the O/S. I thought I preferred the external as well until yesterday. The reason I want to do that is because when I tried doing a restore from the external it kept crashing. Seems my 32GIG card is flaky (as these cards can be) and I couldn't restore. I know it's the card because it restored fine from the internal SD. The internal ram, not being a "card" is much more reliable and now I am too skittish to use the external MicroSd for backups.
PM Koush or sent him an email for a feature request on his CWR
to let user pick where the backup are kept
I think I'm missing something!?
It looks like it's included already?

Well I'll be a son of a b .......... I tried MENU everywhere except from the main screen! Dohhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Thanks for making me look foolish, I deserved it! But I don't feel that bad since Allgamer didn't recall either,
not exactly, i was thinking more in the area of Letting you select a Folder you like.
i do know of the internal vs. external option
that's why i said i like it to be on the external by default a few messages above
ideally we should be able to pick a folder to keep all that stuff, i'll like to point it to a folder called "ROMs" for example in the root of /sdcard/
instead of the default
(titanium backup just recently added that feature, well more like they improved it)

[Q] MIUI rom problem

after install the rom of MIUI
SD device is not work again, even can't connect to computer
anymethod to write the backup to the GN,does adb shell work?????
1) Gonna need more information to help you.
1a) what MIUI rom did you install and how did you install it
2) what trouble shooting steps have you already taken
3) you should probably look inside the thread from the rom that you used. Also posting your problems in there will most likely get them answered quicker by people who use that particular rom or the developer.

Are you connected to your computer when trying to read the SD card...... that would prevent it and give you that error. Seeing the android icon in the corner makes me think so

Viewing internal (eMMC/USB) and external (SD) storage in Settings>Storage

Hi All
I have searched for answers to this in the forum and I can't find what I am looking for. I am sure some of you will have better search powers than me, congrats if you do.
I've rooted and flashed CM9 on my T989 and I have an SD card in the phone. I do not have much downloaded to my phone at all, as it is a fresh and clean install.
When I go to System>Storage I see the 'Internal Storage' at a paultry 1gb something and my SD card storage. But I do not see the 11gb eMMC/USB internal SD card.
Should I see three sets of storage, Internal, SD and eMMC/USB?

What cm9 version are you running? You should see two sections that at internal storage. One that gives you the 1.97gb (application stuff), another that gives you your "emmc" storage 11.whatever , and then obviously your sd card.
Similar to attached pics.

I do not have that. I am using the stable CM9. Not RC2.

I can toggle between eMMC and external but not see both at the same time.
Also, I can't transfer the apps on the SD card to the eMMC which I'd like to do to put a different SD card in.

Odd, sounds like it could be a bad flash...did you flash over a previous rom or is it a clean flash?

[Q] Bricked phone - forgot what version of android I was running

Is there any way to tell what version of android i'm running from examining the files on the SDcard?
I have a virgin mobile galaxy s3, I kept getting software update prompts and ignoring them. I may have updated at one point, I don't remember.
All I can look at are the contents of the SD card, and i'm trying to unbrick a hard brick ( can't get into recovery , phone shows no signs of life. Flash seemed to work correctly, and then after phone reboot, phone shows no signs of life, and I am trying to use the SD card method to revive my phone but I don't know what version of android I was running.)

Of you can read the internal SD, take a look at your build.prop
I can get in to philz recovery manager with this method - but after i'm in philz, what do I do? How do I flash an image? My SD card is now tiny, If I try to use diskpart or minitool partition wizard to reformat while it's mounted from philz, it won't let me.
Is it okay to remove the SD card while i'm in philz recovery manager, and then put the card in my computer, restore the partitions, put the stock file on the drive, then reflash?
Should be
