I recently upgraded to the S5 and wanted to turn my phone back in to Sprint for a credit. When I went to flash it back to stock using Odin the USB connected then randomly disconnected during the flash. Now it won't boot into anything but emergency mode and wont stay connected in Odin long enough to flash. I made sure the drivers installed and the pc could see the phone when plugged in. I am using a cord that is only a couple of weeks old. At this point are there any options to put it back to stock or am I out of luck? I never used Kies either. Thanks in advance for the help.

I've tried about three different cables, all three USB ports and the only other laptop is a Windows 8 machine I can't get to detect the phone at this point. So it is sounding like my suspicions are confirmed on a successful flash. Thank you for the advice, love the signature btw!

Thank you
Go to the development section and look for the rerfs rom. Download that it. It will flash a stick ec05 rom rfs with cwm 2.5.1.0. Then in the same thread is the stock recovery. Download that and then boot into the cwm 2.5.1.0 and flash the stick recovery. Now u are on stock ec05 with stock recovery. Hope I helped. That is your best bet since you can't use odin or heimdall

Did you plug your phone into the same port that your sister's connected with? I found I had to reload the drivers for every USB port on my laptop to make Odin work for each, otherwise it only works for the first one I used.

I tried reloading the drivers and everything and I'm. Using a blackberry cable and I tried different computers but for some reason they still don't work so I'm going to take it to a sprint store because I think its a hardware problem not a software problem and thanks for all the support guys I really appreciate it. One more thing is when I plug in any cable into the wall charger it thinks its a computer and gives me the options for c,harging and mass storage and tethering which its not supposed to do unless its plugged in to a computer

Long time listener first time caller (this is my first post here) I'm going to try not to leave out any details. Bear with me.
I rooted my Tmobile Galaxy s3 for the first time and installed CM10.1. It was great for a few months, then it started getting glitchy. So I would flash the nightly release and it would be fine for a while. I decided to unroot and start fresh. It was then that I discovered the PC wouldn't recognize the device. I followed a youtube tutorial to unroot with Mobile Odin. I extracted and flashed a stock image called Tmobile_GS3_SGH-T999_4.0.4 after clearing counter with Triangle Away.
Well it seemed to go well, unrooted my device, but now the OS is incomplete. No internet app, messaging won't work at all, and it keeps crashing and freezing. The usb port is still not working so I cannot root with my computer, and the flash counter still says 1 and status says modified.
Tmobile sent me a new one on warranty, but I'm really worried they're gonna charge me 500 bucks because it's "modified". I have a few days before I have to send it back, Is there anyway that I can fix this without connecting it to my computer? Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks

First thing to do is to put the phone into DOWNLOAD mode to TEST it and see if ODIN will recognize it.
If Odin recognizes it then there is NO need to send it back to Samsung, all it needs is a proper Odin flash.
Just because when all those missing apps and the usb had issues it does not necessarily mean that Odin will not recognize the phone.
If your computer is not working or you don't have a windows computer find a relative or a friend who has one.
Even a laptop computer would do just fine.
Good Luck!
Tried that
Thanks for your response, I have tried connecting it to Odin in download mode and it still will not see it. I really don't know what the problem could be. the usb used to work fine and there has been no physical damage.

Try a different usb cable and or plug usb into different port,
if that fails, re-install the Samsung usb drivers for the phone.
Remember, if the phone goes into download mode 99.999% of the time the phone
can be flashed successfully using Odin.
The main reasons for usb issues in "download mode" are either loose connection to computer's usb ports,
usb cable intermittant or the Samsung usb drivers in the computer are corrupted in one way or another.
Thanks again
I guess I should have put this in my first post. I have tried 2 different cables in every port on 2 different computers. I have re installed the drivers multiple times as well. Also the new phone they sent me is recognized just fine.

You are in a tough spot. I don't know if you have the stock recovery or not but if not you can either download the stock rom on the phone again...you know the best way although unethical really...being that the usb port is down is to re root it and flash a rom like the gt 1300 or whatever the international version is and intentionally hard brick your phone. Hard brick meaning won't even turn on withOut jtag and that even just clears everything out and reloads software like from the factory. If the phone won't boot up then there's no way for the person to tell its been modified. Majority of the time samsung doesn't get the damaged phones its some idiot making 8 bucks an hour to refurbish phones. That's what I would suggest you do being that the counter is still saying one flash
tmobile s3 running wicked. best rom i've ever used
Pretty sure I'm on stock recovery. it does give me an option to "apply update from external storage"
Thanks for all your help, I'll try to flash the stock rooted rom through the stock recovery although i'm not optimistic.
I will check out the wicked rom you mentioned, although I am a little hesitant to root my new one after this ordeal.
but how do I re root it if I have no usb or custom recovery?

If you can get your phone to boot normally with any stock rom rooting will not be a problem at all.
If you get the phone working and booting properly you would be very lucky but from reading
everything you have wrote so far I highly doubt that you can successfully flash any rom at all
unless you have forgotten to tell us something.
Don't worry about rooting, worry about getting the phone to boot and work properly with stock rom.

I never said a word about stock recovery, I said STOCK ROM.
Invest in a JIG, it puts your phone into download mode instantly even if you cannot
do it manually with the three buttons as long as the phone is not completely dead.
You can buy a jig for less than $4.00 shipped on eBay, it's great little tool.
All you do is remove the battery from the phone and put it back in then simply plug
the jig into the usb port then in a couple seconds it will be in download mode then you
can unplug the jig and the phone is ready to be odin flashed..
Remember what I said before, just because the usb did not work with some
rom you flashed it does not mean that it will not work for download mode.
The jig was one of the best investments I have made when I started using these samsung android phones.
Once in download mode it will allow you flash the stock or stock rooted Jellybean 4.1.1 rom.
This is my best advice.
I am not having a problem getting into download mode, I will take your advice and buy a jig though in case I ever need it. Again, thanks for all your help, I think I may have to send it back and hope for the best.

Before sending it back, if I were you I would find a friend or family member who has
a windows computer and just for the hell of it install the usb drivers in the computer
just to see for sure that while in download mode and connected usb cable if Odin still
is not lighting up the [COM:xx] top left rectangle on Odin screen.
I have odin flashed many phones dozens of times in the past 3 years and I have yet
to come accross one which goes into download mode but odin is not reconized
unless there is something wrong with the windows computer or usb ports and drivers.
That only happens as I said before, if there is something wrong with the drivers,
usb ports and or usb cables or some other malfunction in the windows computer.
Just think, if it works no need send the phone to samsung plus you would have learned
something too.
I did try my other computer with the same results, tomorrow I will try it with my girlfriends laptop, I am starting to think something happened to the usb jack. It didn't work before I unrooted it either, that's why I used Mobile Odin. I am all about learning this stuff though. I plan to root every new phone I get, this has just been a little frustrating.

This is the first I heard that the usb did not work before and the usb socket might be broke.!!!
In that case since you cannot use the Wifi in your phone to transfer and install apps since it cannot boot normally
(unless I am missing something again) and you cannot use usb and it would not even help to remove the external
sd and copy any apps at all since you would have no way to install the apps.
Then you are right, you have to send it back, exchange it and hopefully you can come up
with a good enough excuse why it's not working so samsung will not charge anything )which I doubt)
I must not have been clear, I can use the phone. it makes calls, the wifi works, i can use third party messaging and browser apps. again, there has been no physical damage. the socket worked a few weeks ago when I rooted it. I only noticed it not working when I went to unroot it.
So basically it sounds like there is no way to root or install custom recovery without usb, correct?

Hey everyone. I was hoping you could help me.
My N7105 was softly bricked to I downloaded a firmware and flashed it, but I didn't realize it wasn't the right (Portuguese) version. Therefore I had no cell phone service.
I now have the right firmware, but the phone is no longer recognized by the computer
I've reinstalled the drivers and Odin and I've tried USB debugging. I've also tried another cable and it won't work. The phone simply isn't being recognized by the computer!
I have no way to flash the firmware and I don't know what to do
Help, please...
Thanks so much

This worked for me. Hope it works for you.
Go to download mode. Plug into USB port. Remove the battery when plugged in. And reinsert it. Odin should recognise the phone.
If your mobile switches off, retry a couple of times. If it still doesn't work, you might have to use some other computer.

Try to flash your firmware using mobile Odin. It should do the trick. As far as I can tell it seems that the cable or port of ur phone is damaged.
Can anyone help me please.....?

I have also tried different PC's to resolve this issue.... still nothing.
The phone charges ok ... so no issues on the charging side.

Make sure usb debugging is on.
Have you tried putting the phone in download mode, starting odin then plugging the phone in and seeing if odin will recognize it? If that works then download the OB7 lollipop stock tar from the general section and flash it with odin.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

I've been through three Note 4's now - ever since Lollipop I cant mount USB in the OS or in recovery. It's absolutely insane. other Sammy phones are fine - I bring them back into the store and they can't mount anything either - so they give me a new phone.
This one came with Lollipop out of the box, so we activate it and plug it into their laptop. It sees the phone and you can see the device in Explorer. I drive home and some apps update on the way.
Get home - NONE OF MY PCs SEE THE ****ING PHONE!!!!
I'l going to have to kill something now - this makes ZERO sense. I know what I'm doing, I know all about drivers, USB debugging, blah blah. Still these Note 4s just plain won't mount USB. They charge fine but PCs don't see them.
I need to root the damn thing so I can get all my apps back on there but of course ODIN can't see a phone that won't mount.
Any advice? Been dealing with this for two weeks now... I can't find anybody else with a similar issue.
I just got my phone fixed by a repair shop and they had to replace the motherboard. So when I got it back it has 5.0 on it instead of my KitKat ROM I like. Try downloading and installing the newest version of Kies. It will install all the drivers you need. I'll look into that issue in case that doesn't work. Hopefully they didn't install a board with a bad port. It can be bad and still charge.

I don't have Lolipop, but don't you have to manually set USB to connect on the phone (MTP mode), otherwise it stays in charge mode only? either that or your phone is set to charge mode only and you need to enable either MTP or PTP under USB options, for connection to work.

You're correct about MTP for mounting as internal storage, but MTP and PTP isn't used while in download mode and connected to Odin. It uses ADB at that point and it does that automatically. You just have to make sure USB Debugging is turned on.

Just gonna check some things with you. Have you made sure to activate Developer options and turn on USB Debugging? I know it doesn't connect while attached to a computer right now but does it charge? You said you've tried different computers, but have you tried different USB cables as well?
If the phone is charging but not connecting there is a small trick to see if it's a hardware issue. Get a very this piece of plastic or something else kind of stiff and barely wedge it under the charging port. You put it under the lower side that faces the back cover. You only want something that's going to put a tiny bit of pressure there. Most of the time if a charging port goes out, it's because the contacts are loose. If you do this and it connects as it should, then they put a bad board in the phone. This trick should be the last resort though.
