Today I had the experience of having this problem
I've read in several places about it, but he is already well known
My experiences and attempts:
*disconnected from the charger it goes into bootloop
*connected to a charger it turns on and works normally
*loads very slowly (original charger and cable)
*battery percentage is crazy (for example to restart it jumps from 14% to 76% and otherwise)
*when disconnecting the charger it works for about 1 or 2 minutes and turns itself off
some search i found in this segment:

as well as several people have noted, it is a battery problem!
Maybe any particular type or configuration and calibration? I do not know!
among several people who reported this problem this is what catches my attention:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2534327 posted by @Osni~* Osni~*
especially a posting made by @CokeJunkee

However I will send the set for repair (still under warranty)
any feedback is welcome!

This happened to me! My had ZL had already been replaced once and after about a month it started showing the same symptoms. I flashed the stock firmware twice just to be sure it wasn't a software issue, but the problems persisted.... So i took it to the service and now they're gonna replace it again (obviously without any charge)! It is a battery problem and hopefully I won't have to go back to the service center with the next replacement.

Yep, exactly the same as my case.
When the replaced cellphone had the same problem, I called Sony and they wanted to replace It again.
I said I wouldn't send it for replacement because the (then) third one would have the same problem and I would have to wait another month or so without the cellphone (not to mention the warranty was already at half).
I requested the refund, they did it in 2 weeks if I can remember correctly, then I waited 3 months with a crappy phone and now I'm a happy owner of a LG G3.
i had sorry for you and in some cases were in the same boat..
My battery also crazy, sometimes it went down to 14% from 92% and sometimes it's dead when it reach to 70% and below..
i know fully discharge and charge again would fix this but it wont be long.. It's gone for about 3-4 days and later.. My phone went drunk again..
in my mind, i looking for a phone with removable battery (samsung is my quick choice). But it's hard for me to leave sony and hard for me to leave "a full of memory phone", my xperia ZL..
i been using sony (ericsson) since K800i was released till now.. The XPERIA ERA was coming..

my warranty will expire in about two months
assuming he was sent to warranty I would have to have this extended period... huh?
I will make it clear to receive the product back if he face the same problems will want a refund
even if need to seek my rights
this problem needs a "recall" (since many people had this problem and was contacted)
consumers would look with brand new eyes
Alternative solution to physical damage on battery flex...
hi, forgive my english, is my firsth post...
This a alternative fisic metod to saved the battery,
my c6506 now work fine!!.
the problem is the battery flex, is a defect in the negative of the battery, n is solved by a fisical "jumper" to the negative terminal to negative flex terminal, as show:

great news friend, it may be helpful to me if a new problem happen in the future and certainly many others
(My conclusion so far) this problem happens when the device reaches high temperatures that eventually comes to corrupt welds trails Battery

Funny, I've been assuming the battery failure was the result of a thermal fuse getting popped by heat...
That being said, I THOUGHT mine had died this afternoon, but not it seems to be working again... we'll have to see...
Sadly, I'm unsure that my receipt from the bitcoin store included the serial# for my phone...
I was wrong, it's dead... Not cool...
My RMA is setup and I'll probably ship my phone out tomorrow...
I'm not certain I would consider replacing the battery an adequate fix as this seems to be a flaw in the design... thinking I might just try and sell my phone when it comes back and move on to something else...
thanks

Thanks man, excellent tip... I was able to save my battery :laugh:duh
I found it interesting when I got mine back from the repair depot, they'd replaced ~ 4 screws, ~ 3 strips of glue tape, the battery, and the grounding strap...
I need to roll back to 101 and test - I don't seem to be getting DC connections in places where I didn't get LTE... in fact, at this point, I seem to either get LTE, or no data at this point... which is very strange...

Ok, so the battery died on my play yesterday so, as you do, I went and got the charger and plugged it in. Once it was charging I turned it back on. However, when I went to use it all I saw was this:

My first thought was to take the battery out and reboot so I did - as I was taking out the battery I saw a flash of the old screen for a second just before the power went.
Rebooted but no change.
I tried to backup and restore with the SE sofware but I couldn't put the phone in media something mode and it wouldn't allow me to.
So I reinstalled using SEUS instead, powered back on and no change.
It's really bugging me. The screen starts up with "SonyEricsson" which says to me the screen is surely not broken or disconnected, ut then I get this fuzzy / static mess and nothing else.
It's only a few months old so it's probably under warranty, but I really don't want to have to send it back - it's been less than 24 hours and I'm already missing it!!
Anyone have any ideas?
P.S. - I've also tried rebooting without the memory card and/or sim card, but no diff.

do you think it is software or hardware related. you could try WotanServer or flashtool to flash stock I think the bootloader doesn't need to be unlocked for official files.

Since the screen was showing the logo when booting, I assumed it must be a software issue - just used flashtool and it said everything was successful... but the screen is still the same - and now "SonyEricsson" doesn't come up at the start anymore...
its the screen damage or motherboard problem...i faced thr same issue..take it to sony care

I have this same problem.......can it be related to the slider flex cable??? How did you get it resolved your answer really would help me. My location restricts me from returning it and its not under warranty anymore.

i went to SE care. At first, they told me that they had replaced the display along with the flex cable. Then the phone wouldnt charge. So they changed the motherboard also. But this entire process took over a month. Was really unhappy that they couldnt identify the problem at first. But i wasnt charged any money because of warranty, so its all good. i Suggest you take it to any care center and first get the problem diagnosed. If you are paying for replacing it the motherboard , it is as good as purchasing a new phone.
Had almost the same problem when I slided my phone when it was 3 degrees Celsius "cold". I destroyed flex cable and my screen started to freeze and show random RGB pixellation.
I think it's 99% broken flex or 1% motherboard. I suggest you to give your Xperia PLAY back to Sony if it's under warranty.
Cheers.
its ridiculous I have the same problem when I unlock my phone. i emailed the company i got it from but im still waiting for a reply haven't dropped it or anything, but for now i slide the phone and have to use it like that and even then it the screen flickers a few times.

I have the same problem, just happened out of no where as the phone has been working fine. It pushed me into buying a GS3 but I still want the play for gaming. I've had mine for over a year and I bought it off ebay so I'm not holding out much hope for warranty.
It is Flex Cable. I had exact same problem, boot logo was showing like normal and then w00t.
hi everyone
same problem as every1 fuzzy screen can anyone be 110% sure it is the ribbon
as my warranty is finished and i have to do it myself
Yeah it's flex cable stuff. I had to get a new phone because of this. When you get it fixed, just start being careful with sliding your phone open.

Flex cable swapped out, Play number 1 successfully fixed. It really wasn't that hard to fix either.
same issue here.. looks like it's a very common issue with the Xplay
Ok, so after I first posted this thread, I brought my play to the nearest repair centre and had it fixed up. However, a few days ago it started back up again... Since its out of warranty ill probably just try fix it myself, but it's kinda creepy that it's almost exactly a year since it first happened...

Sorry to bump an old thread but this happened to my phone this week also. I'd like to be able to fix it myself but I have literally no experience with doing such a thing - is it a straightforward case of screwing the cover off and simply replacing the cable or is there certain pitfalls that I should avoid?
My phone is not in warranty (bought second hand) so would rather pay 20 euro for a flex cable on ebay than pay double or triple that to have it repaired.

You have to take the device apart fully, inclusive of the screen half of the Play to replace the ribbon.
Some things you should be aware of are:
- The tiny ribbon cable on the upper side of the motherboard that is connected to the Touchpads. This is EXTREMELY delicate and is an even worse pain in the ass to replace than the main flex cable.
- When putting it back together, ensure the L and R buttons work correctly before screwing it back together again.
- The flex cable is quite difficult to get through the space it's required to go through (you'll see), you have to CAREFULLY twist and turn it to get it in.
- When attaching the flex cable to the motherboard (It's quite difficult to secure it properly as it's such a small gap) be sure not to use any sharp tools or to press too hard. I've killed a new flex cable in the past by doing this.
I've had to replace the cable 7 times so far on 5 different Plays. (None of which have been my own) - Although when my friend's died and he gave it to me to repair, he simply brought a new one anyway and I kept the Play after I fixed it. xD But yeah, very common issue. No idea why it hasn't happened to me yet though. *touch wood*
Thanks for the reply Spizzy.
Hmm seems like there's quite a few pitfalls to taking this on myself - may be best to leave this one to the experts
Solution for "camera black screen", "no charging LED" and "dead earphone"
Hi!
My phone got several problems during the last day without any reason.
- camera shows black screen and crashes
- headphone jack does not work
- earphone dead
- no charging
I've done research via google and found several "solutions"
- change sd-card: not the solution
- wipe cache and dalvik: not the solution
- re-assembling the camera unit: not the solution
The last one i've tried fixed my problem: One of the flat connectors on the motherboard was detached.
After plug it in again, the phone works fine again.
It was not my solution, but i thought it might be helpful to poste that again
Check out this topics and the posts from "abenia":

In my case, the reason was the connection shown here(black part to mainboard, connectors not viewable on the pic): http://tjworld.net/attachment/blog/htc-desire-tear-down/DSC00156-small.JPG

Hi!
You might laugh, but i have had to redo the fix THIS morning.
The connector popped out again without any reason, so first flash stopped working, then LED, then headset and finally cam.
Ok, i opened up the phone and fixed it.
Sadly i ave had no cam beside me.
This time i put a bit tape on the connector, so it is blocked after reassemly.
I will do that again this evening and make a small "how to" and post it over here.
If not....kick me

Keep the upper board in place, just dismount the lower one.
Dismount the one screew in the left lower corner and detach the three connectors on the right side.
Now you are able to flip the lower board with the 2 attached foil cables.
The left connector is the reason!
Replug it, put some foam or tape on its back and attach it with tape to the surrounding area.
The reassemble the device.
It's all easy and may take you 10min

Hi, I'm experiencing the same camera/camcorder/flashlight problem and would like to try this fix, but I'm a little unsure of what to do after dismounting the bottom board. I haven't tried it yet, but I get confused with flipping the lower board and what left connector I should be looking for. Is it straight forward once the board is flipped? Would either of you be able to explain this a little more, maybe with some pictures? Thanks.
EDIT: So I just decided to go for it and it was pretty straight forward. It was the black foil-wire(?not sure what you call it) connector under the microSD card slot.
heres a picture looking down from the top:
you can see the gap between the connector on the right. just had to push it in, and presto! Camera, flash and led working again Thanks!
Hi biictorr,
congrats!
As I said, it is really easy.
I have had to do that twice, because the mentinoned connector got loose again.
Now I have applyed a bit of foam tape on the connector so it will be kept in place by the pressure of the housing.
Just bought a second Desire for $50 with the same failure for business use - took me 16 minutes to repair it

This was the third time I had this problem but my phone was not covered by the warranty, so I was afraid of having to pay 50-60 euro, and I even was considering getting a new phone (Desire X had been offered to me by my carrier for €99) and then, what do you know! The solution was so simple! I checked that connector and the camera works back, the LED does too, everything works! Sui77, you saved me at least €50! You're awesome!
Hi camilou,
glad to hear that.
I'm running 2 old-school desires right now and bought two defective ones for my friends.
In my opinion there is no better phone for <50€
No reason to be angry in case of a stolen'/lost/broken high priced phone
I applied a saphire camera glass (amazon) and a polarcell battery (ebay) and everything is fine.
Recommended is the spazedog ICS ROM.
Ahhhh, thank you guys for this amazing guide. By magic my camera and torch works again
Hi.
Awesome, and thanks.
My issues were: Camera black screen, headphone jack, flash and battery recharge light not working. ** Also every time I set up the portable wi-fi hotspot, my phone would reboot.
I have never torn down a phone and found it easy and effectuated the fix.
Superb advice.
Reconnected connector ok.
ps Note to forum guys - this forum could be easier to use pls.
You're welcome
My phone fell in water. It started behaving weird so I kept the phone in light heater.after which it started behaving well. But from that time onwards my phone never shuts down. When I pressed the power off button , it shuts down and reboots automatically. There are no random reboots in normal usage. Any hardware would have affected?
If your phone is rooted you can try Quick Boot, it has a power off option

Perhaps the turn-on circuitry is always in "on state" after the water fell on the phone...
So you probably should heat it a little bit more or the damage is just more serious and you should open the phone and clean it using the special alcohol (of which I don't remember the name right now)
I could have a look at the service manual and look how the turn on circuitry works....

The phone got wet on saturday and it worked for few hours then these problems occured.
Intially the battery was not charging and my microphone didnt work. I used a dryer to dry the phone After which the microphone worked and battery charged but still the reboot problem was there. The microphone worked fine yesterday but today again it has gone and reboot happens. If I switch of my phone while it is being charged my phone never reboots.
Now I got a temprory hair dryer. Will do it now. Is there any specific way to dry the phone? I usually keep the screen facing the hot hair and remove the battery too.
I am thinking of giving to a service center. Will the service center people also follow the same method?
Thanks a lot for your help.

The problem is that the service center *might* see that something went wrong by user fault....I don't know perhaps you could give a try and see what they tell you. If traces of water are not evident they might repair it under warranty....but no warranty by me that this method works
To your question "is there any specific way" well, it depends, if it is still wet put it into a bowl of rice (it helps absorbing humidity).
The point is that this problems seems to be "random" so it makes sense that some water is still in it.
Let us know!

You could open the back cover by screws...without touching screen or so. Just back cover.

Hi,
Fixed my phone.. But I did a stupid thing by opening case the second time in which a small tape attached to the speaker came off.
(Near the sim card there is a gold circle). next to it there is a rectangluar film which came out the second time i opened. Don't know where should that tape go.
Can i stick the tape?

Are you referring to this tape? It appears just to be an electrostatic tape.
The Sim slot is nowhere near the speaker though, unless you were referring to something else.

That is the flex cable for the physical volume control. You probably ripped part of it off while taking the motherboard off, it's common mistake if you didn't take it apart with precautions.
Here is one link on eBay for replacement part for the maguro version. Just search galaxy nexus volume flex

Thanks a ton for all the support. My Gnex is up and running..
hello guys,
lately I noticed that my battery has been discharging way too fast for my liking! I'm suspecting the cheap magnetic charger I bought online to be the cause of this, but I'm not sure.
Here's what happened:
I put the device to charge during the night, and when I woke up I found out that the device has been drained. I put it to charge again, and waited. It took about 30 minutes for the device to power on again!
Oh and before that thing happend (about a week before) I noticed that the device reboots when it reaches a % between 5-10
After that I noticed that the battery life has been greatly shortend.
Is there anything I can do about that, to try and recover some of the battery (leave it on a wall charger for a day etc..) ?
I finally found the fix for my battery drain: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55257984&postcount=21
Seems like the magnetic charger was not to blame at all
Hello @oshmoun;,
I use one of those cheap docking stations as well. However I've not had any issues with the battery life like you.
Try to recalibrate your battery, this sounds like a misscalibrated battery.
If that does not work, restore your phone back to stock and send it in for service.

Hello @oshmoun,
This tutorial have some different methods you can try out:
http://www.androidpit.com/how-to-calibrate-the-battery-on-your-android-device
I would suggest you to try out the method for rooted users first, if that does not help you can try the others out if you want to.

I guess I'll wait till .133 is out to see if stock solves my issue.
I had the exact same problem with my Samsung phone.
I suspected that it was a software problem since I had just flashed a new version.
It turned out that the battery was damaged, even though it was not that old. I had to replace the battery.
Just to let you know.

Well I've still not ruled everything out, but i had considered replacing the battery. Unfortunately this is not a Samsung device. The battery is not replaceable, which means I'll have to send it to a Sony repair center
I'd rather first try out everything i can before it comes to that
Go fully stock and try and replicate the rebooting issue, then get it sent to Sony.
Is it possible, that you connected your device reversed left to right. (+ on - of the magnetic charge and - on +)
It would explain why your device battery was empty, after you "charged" it.
It can kill your battery, if your unlucky and you do this once....

The charger doesn't fit the other way around, so i would say that didn't happen
I'm noticing that the battery is slowly improving by itself. Yesterday i got about 4.5 screen time!
Maybe the battery calibration worked after all

It still happens once in a while. Yesterday my battery dropped about 10% after rebooting the device [emoji33]
Let's hope that that means the device has found some of the lost battery charge

I experience the same error after upgrading to .108. If I downgrade, everything works fine. Seems like a bug to me..
now i start use magnetic cable for Z1 (by Yida.com). after charge i'll post how is my battery
Hi @oshmoun ,
I was using .681 FW by munjeni until two days ago, my battery was good until the last few days of using it (5 days ago I guess)
then the battery started draining crazily and I didn't know why (didn't do anything unusual), I tried several things like battery recalibration and reducing CPU clock and using powersave governor but had no luck.
So I decided to update to a newer Sony FW, so I flashed .108 (old) FW I had without wiping data,
and that restored the battery life, actually it is much better now!
Also I flashed DooMKernel for .108 and played a little with its settings, and now I'm feeling victory:victory:
Hope this helps
Best Wishes,
Omar.

This happened to me when I tried using one of the Chinese magnetic chargers on eBay. I fixed it by turning the device off for ten minutes, then plugging it into a USB port on my computer. It stopped the rapidly draining and overheating and trickle charged it back up. Happened about 2 weeks ago and hasn't happened since (and I stopped using that charger).

If it's the same dimensions as OEM battery it shouldn't be a problem. I know I had 1950 Mah battery in my old Evo 3d and it worked just fine. You got me interested with this, it's time to change my battery too. There are no phones that I like just now, and my trusty old M7 could get a nice present these days. Now, only thing to do is to figure out how to replace the damn thing [emoji23]

Has anyone replaced their battery yet? I think i need to Replace mine.
I'm on my way to replace mine, but still waiting for the back housing to arrive. Could be a week, month, or three if the package gets lost on it's way from China. Front and middle housing + battery arrived in 2 weeks...

Interesting!! I'm about to replace my battery aswell and now that I've seen this battery I'm going to wait and read your tests to decide whether to buy this 2800mAh one or the original.
Looking forward to read your news

I just replaced my HTC one M7 battery and ear piece speaker. It's not as hard as many people said. It took about one and half hour. And I caused no damage to the read cover. You don't need a new rear cover.
