Solution for "camera black screen", "no charging LED" and "dead earphone"
Hi!
My phone got several problems during the last day without any reason.
- camera shows black screen and crashes
- headphone jack does not work
- earphone dead
- no charging
I've done research via google and found several "solutions"
- change sd-card: not the solution
- wipe cache and dalvik: not the solution
- re-assembling the camera unit: not the solution
The last one i've tried fixed my problem: One of the flat connectors on the motherboard was detached.
After plug it in again, the phone works fine again.
It was not my solution, but i thought it might be helpful to poste that again
Check out this topics and the posts from "abenia":

In my case, the reason was the connection shown here(black part to mainboard, connectors not viewable on the pic): http://tjworld.net/attachment/blog/htc-desire-tear-down/DSC00156-small.JPG

Hi Sui77,
i had a look at your second link, with the back of the phone opened up. Could you please be a bit more specific of the area where the connector is (the one i have to re-attach). maybe a red circle on the picture
Many thanks

Hi!
You might laugh, but i have had to redo the fix THIS morning.
The connector popped out again without any reason, so first flash stopped working, then LED, then headset and finally cam.
Ok, i opened up the phone and fixed it.
Sadly i ave had no cam beside me.
This time i put a bit tape on the connector, so it is blocked after reassemly.
I will do that again this evening and make a small "how to" and post it over here.
If not....kick me
Here we go:
Dismount the desire like shown here: http://www.formymobile.co.uk/desiredisassembly.php
Up to this step.

Keep the upper board in place, just dismount the lower one.
Dismount the one screew in the left lower corner and detach the three connectors on the right side.
Now you are able to flip the lower board with the 2 attached foil cables.
The left connector is the reason!
Replug it, put some foam or tape on its back and attach it with tape to the surrounding area.
The reassemble the device.
It's all easy and may take you 10min

Hi, I'm experiencing the same camera/camcorder/flashlight problem and would like to try this fix, but I'm a little unsure of what to do after dismounting the bottom board. I haven't tried it yet, but I get confused with flipping the lower board and what left connector I should be looking for. Is it straight forward once the board is flipped? Would either of you be able to explain this a little more, maybe with some pictures? Thanks.
EDIT: So I just decided to go for it and it was pretty straight forward. It was the black foil-wire(?not sure what you call it) connector under the microSD card slot.
heres a picture looking down from the top:
you can see the gap between the connector on the right. just had to push it in, and presto! Camera, flash and led working again Thanks!
Hi biictorr,
congrats!
As I said, it is really easy.
I have had to do that twice, because the mentinoned connector got loose again.
Now I have applyed a bit of foam tape on the connector so it will be kept in place by the pressure of the housing.
Just bought a second Desire for $50 with the same failure for business use - took me 16 minutes to repair it
a lil help ^^

I repaired my desire as well!
Hi, another Desire user in here. This was the third time I had this problem but my phone was not covered by the warranty, so I was afraid of having to pay 50-60 euro, and I even was considering getting a new phone (Desire X had been offered to me by my carrier for €99) and then, what do you know! The solution was so simple! I checked that connector and the camera works back, the LED does too, everything works! Sui77, you saved me at least €50! You're awesome!
Hi camilou,
glad to hear that.
I'm running 2 old-school desires right now and bought two defective ones for my friends.
In my opinion there is no better phone for <50€
No reason to be angry in case of a stolen'/lost/broken high priced phone
I applied a saphire camera glass (amazon) and a polarcell battery (ebay) and everything is fine.
Recommended is the spazedog ICS ROM.
Ahhhh, thank you guys for this amazing guide. By magic my camera and torch works again
Hi.
Awesome, and thanks.
My issues were: Camera black screen, headphone jack, flash and battery recharge light not working. ** Also every time I set up the portable wi-fi hotspot, my phone would reboot.
I have never torn down a phone and found it easy and effectuated the fix.
Superb advice.
Reconnected connector ok.
ps Note to forum guys - this forum could be easier to use pls.
You're welcome

Ok, so the battery died on my play yesterday so, as you do, I went and got the charger and plugged it in. Once it was charging I turned it back on. However, when I went to use it all I saw was this:

My first thought was to take the battery out and reboot so I did - as I was taking out the battery I saw a flash of the old screen for a second just before the power went.
Rebooted but no change.
I tried to backup and restore with the SE sofware but I couldn't put the phone in media something mode and it wouldn't allow me to.
So I reinstalled using SEUS instead, powered back on and no change.
It's really bugging me. The screen starts up with "SonyEricsson" which says to me the screen is surely not broken or disconnected, ut then I get this fuzzy / static mess and nothing else.
It's only a few months old so it's probably under warranty, but I really don't want to have to send it back - it's been less than 24 hours and I'm already missing it!!
Anyone have any ideas?
P.S. - I've also tried rebooting without the memory card and/or sim card, but no diff.

do you think it is software or hardware related. you could try WotanServer or flashtool to flash stock I think the bootloader doesn't need to be unlocked for official files.

Since the screen was showing the logo when booting, I assumed it must be a software issue - just used flashtool and it said everything was successful... but the screen is still the same - and now "SonyEricsson" doesn't come up at the start anymore...
its the screen damage or motherboard problem...i faced thr same issue..take it to sony care

I have this same problem.......can it be related to the slider flex cable??? How did you get it resolved your answer really would help me. My location restricts me from returning it and its not under warranty anymore.

i went to SE care. At first, they told me that they had replaced the display along with the flex cable. Then the phone wouldnt charge. So they changed the motherboard also. But this entire process took over a month. Was really unhappy that they couldnt identify the problem at first. But i wasnt charged any money because of warranty, so its all good. i Suggest you take it to any care center and first get the problem diagnosed. If you are paying for replacing it the motherboard , it is as good as purchasing a new phone.
Had almost the same problem when I slided my phone when it was 3 degrees Celsius "cold". I destroyed flex cable and my screen started to freeze and show random RGB pixellation.
I think it's 99% broken flex or 1% motherboard. I suggest you to give your Xperia PLAY back to Sony if it's under warranty.
Cheers.
its ridiculous I have the same problem when I unlock my phone. i emailed the company i got it from but im still waiting for a reply haven't dropped it or anything, but for now i slide the phone and have to use it like that and even then it the screen flickers a few times.

I have the same problem, just happened out of no where as the phone has been working fine. It pushed me into buying a GS3 but I still want the play for gaming. I've had mine for over a year and I bought it off ebay so I'm not holding out much hope for warranty.
It is Flex Cable. I had exact same problem, boot logo was showing like normal and then w00t.
hi everyone
same problem as every1 fuzzy screen can anyone be 110% sure it is the ribbon
as my warranty is finished and i have to do it myself
Yeah it's flex cable stuff. I had to get a new phone because of this. When you get it fixed, just start being careful with sliding your phone open.

Flex cable swapped out, Play number 1 successfully fixed. It really wasn't that hard to fix either.
same issue here.. looks like it's a very common issue with the Xplay
Ok, so after I first posted this thread, I brought my play to the nearest repair centre and had it fixed up. However, a few days ago it started back up again... Since its out of warranty ill probably just try fix it myself, but it's kinda creepy that it's almost exactly a year since it first happened...

Sorry to bump an old thread but this happened to my phone this week also. I'd like to be able to fix it myself but I have literally no experience with doing such a thing - is it a straightforward case of screwing the cover off and simply replacing the cable or is there certain pitfalls that I should avoid?
My phone is not in warranty (bought second hand) so would rather pay 20 euro for a flex cable on ebay than pay double or triple that to have it repaired.

You have to take the device apart fully, inclusive of the screen half of the Play to replace the ribbon.
Some things you should be aware of are:
- The tiny ribbon cable on the upper side of the motherboard that is connected to the Touchpads. This is EXTREMELY delicate and is an even worse pain in the ass to replace than the main flex cable.
- When putting it back together, ensure the L and R buttons work correctly before screwing it back together again.
- The flex cable is quite difficult to get through the space it's required to go through (you'll see), you have to CAREFULLY twist and turn it to get it in.
- When attaching the flex cable to the motherboard (It's quite difficult to secure it properly as it's such a small gap) be sure not to use any sharp tools or to press too hard. I've killed a new flex cable in the past by doing this.
I've had to replace the cable 7 times so far on 5 different Plays. (None of which have been my own) - Although when my friend's died and he gave it to me to repair, he simply brought a new one anyway and I kept the Play after I fixed it. xD But yeah, very common issue. No idea why it hasn't happened to me yet though. *touch wood*
Thanks for the reply Spizzy.
Hmm seems like there's quite a few pitfalls to taking this on myself - may be best to leave this one to the experts
Hello Guys,
I'm experiencing issue with touch screen on my N7 (2013) 32gb, Build number: JSS15R , Unrooted
When I put my N7 on the pillow, or sofa (Not wood or metal surface) , the touch screen NOT responding in some area on screen (on the picture below), otherwise, when I hold my N7 in both hands or just one hand it seems to work just fine!
Do you have this issue or only me ?
Note: I used Multi-Touch test app (by TPYXA software) also for this test, and I did factory reset with no any apps install (only Multi-touch app)

Same here. Thought my Nexus 7 was fine for a couple weeks. I have no clue what could cause this but I've tested it a lot and it is definitely fine in my hands or on a hard surface and always really bad on a soft fabric surface. It makes no sense, maybe a hard case on the back would help? Has anyone with this problem tried that, are you using it with or without a case?

I will tell you what I think. I think it has to do with the wireless charging coils in the back of the tablet.
I am using a slimline Moko case. I tried it out of the case and it still did same on couch and pillow. On solid surface works great. Is there anyone out there that has taken the Nexus 7 apart. Unplug the wireless charging see if it fixes the screen issues.
This problem is also known as the grounding issue, although some say that's not an accurate description. Regardless, I had this issue and this thread fixed it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428133
Take a look and see if one of the files will fix your problem.

Wow, just tried it and seems like you right.
Screen going nuts when placed on my bed.
When i touching it with all ten fingers, screen automatically turns off and on, endlessly sometimes.
Seems like thats a hardware problem, i dont think any app able to wake up the screen.
Just made a video. Sorry for quality, my dorm roommate havent back yet, so i were filming alone with power of my ankle.
Google or asus or both should begin talking about this and what is the answer/solution they are going to give us. Mine is going to asus tomorrow, let's see what thy do. I know they have change screen, front and gps to another user, and did not even talk about gps problems at all, so they may know something.

Wireless charging coils. Its causing a magnetic field on the back of the tablet. causing something like a grounding issue but really not.
If you take your USB cable and plug it in to your Nexus 7 and run the cord around the screen it will go nuts. It should not do that. Same with head phone plugged in to Nexus 7 and the head phone wire touches the screen it causes issues. There is a shielding problem. or its the wireless charging coils needing taken out.
Electromagnetic Interference
Large power lines, electric motors, kitchen appliances, and other devices may directly interfere with a display picture. Many devices are not properly shielded and their electromagnetic fields can cause disruption. Most modern display devices have sufficient shielding to prevent interference, but damage to the shielding may allow for signals to penetrate. Older displays and economy brands may have minimal shielding, leaving these devices vulnerable. Cables and audio/video equipment are also vulnerable to electromagnetic interference.

I agree with you :good:.
For me , when I plug my headphone into my N7 the problem with touch screen disappear even if I put it on Fabric ground.
Also, I have Galaxy Note II with QI wireless charging (QI wireless charger with the coil purchased from ebay 6 months ago), until now I don't have any issue with touch screen or charging itself.
Yes, I think the wireless coil caused touch issue.
Thank you all for the information , hope Google and Asus fix this very soon
Here is a logcat for touchscreen fail and sudden screen off/on turning.
Not sure if i did it right though
Note that NFC turning on/off by itself as well.
I have a couple of other tablets that I do amateur Dev work on, so I decided I can do without the nexus for a while and send it in for "repair" to see what happens. I'm curious to find out if they will change out any hardware or just flash a different firmware version and then send it back. I've tried every stock version if firmware with no luck, it seems to work fine for a couple if hour up to a day and the goes back to sucking. I'll report back in this thread when it gets mailed back and let everyone know what turn around time is like and if it actually helps. I have mentioned the ASUS customer service rep on live chat was excellent and its really easy to RMA it back.
I got my tablet back from he service center. It was a pain, they shipped it to the wrong address and then fedex delivered it to a neighbor, had to retrieve it and re-deliver it. Turnaround time at the service center was only one day but shipping in both directions was about a week total.
Even though I requested it, there was no notes on what they did so I contacted customer service. They looked up the notes and told me they had to open the tablet to re-calibrate the touchscreen and also loaded a "newer driver" to fix the issue. They also said it was safe to update the firmware if a new version is released.
So far the tablet is fine but I'll report back after using it for longer to see if the issue really is fixed. If they had to open the tablet, that sounds like people with this particular issue do have to send it in for repair because no firmware update can fix it.

assuming you are rooted, reboot your tablet
then type
su

What do you need from the output? That command doesn't work together but I can grep them separately. I'm not nearly set-up enough to copy/paste the dmesg, so I'll have to type it out for now. Relevant parts, let me know if you need more:
grep for firmware:
firmware version: 0xa042
firmware id: 0x3029
grep for ektf3k:
x resolution: 0x007e
y resolution: 0x00d2
boot code id: 0x6047
Max X=2239, Max Y=1343
Don't know if you need the rest but I'm guessing not.
Mine got back from asus one week ago, they replaced screen, front and gps. Nothing was fixed, multitouch is still going mad, single touch is a bit improve, as before it works nearly well grounded but over a table or a sofa it works worst.
One friend got it back for a second time, the first time they did the same they have done to mine, now they changed main bd-2g, rear camera, screen, front and gps, 24hrs later he is reporting me that problems are back. Do you know what main bd -2g is? Motherboard?
Where did you type those commands?

Just download any terminal emulator from the play store. I use this one.
As for the touch issues, mines obviously still got the multi-touch thing going on when you get several close fingers together. In my opinion that really has nothing to do with the Nexus 7. I've owned 8 tablets, not including the this Nexus and they all do the same thing if you put a bunch of fingers on the screen and then group them in close together. I'm pretty sure if you were to go to a Best Buy or something and play with all their tablets you would be able to reproduce the same thing on every single one.
The whole "only works when I'm holding it" thing was new to me though. It literally didn't work on any surface or even suspended on a stand. I've been playing around with it more since I got it back and putting it on various things, so far it works on every hard and soft surface, it also works whiles charging via USB and wireless charging. Another thing to note is that it came back with JSS15Q loaded. I haven't updated and don't plan on doing that for a while, even though the customer service people "guaranteed" me that it would be fine.
No clue about the bd-2g though.

Ok, you didn't get any "newer" touchscreen firmware. This is the standard one that came with JSS15Q/R.
So it is possible you have a screen that now behaves best with the latest touchscreen firmware.
My phone fell in water. It started behaving weird so I kept the phone in light heater.after which it started behaving well. But from that time onwards my phone never shuts down. When I pressed the power off button , it shuts down and reboots automatically. There are no random reboots in normal usage. Any hardware would have affected?
If your phone is rooted you can try Quick Boot, it has a power off option

Perhaps the turn-on circuitry is always in "on state" after the water fell on the phone...
So you probably should heat it a little bit more or the damage is just more serious and you should open the phone and clean it using the special alcohol (of which I don't remember the name right now)
I could have a look at the service manual and look how the turn on circuitry works....

The phone got wet on saturday and it worked for few hours then these problems occured.
Intially the battery was not charging and my microphone didnt work. I used a dryer to dry the phone After which the microphone worked and battery charged but still the reboot problem was there. The microphone worked fine yesterday but today again it has gone and reboot happens. If I switch of my phone while it is being charged my phone never reboots.
Now I got a temprory hair dryer. Will do it now. Is there any specific way to dry the phone? I usually keep the screen facing the hot hair and remove the battery too.
I am thinking of giving to a service center. Will the service center people also follow the same method?
Thanks a lot for your help.

The problem is that the service center *might* see that something went wrong by user fault....I don't know perhaps you could give a try and see what they tell you. If traces of water are not evident they might repair it under warranty....but no warranty by me that this method works
To your question "is there any specific way" well, it depends, if it is still wet put it into a bowl of rice (it helps absorbing humidity).
The point is that this problems seems to be "random" so it makes sense that some water is still in it.
Let us know!

You could open the back cover by screws...without touching screen or so. Just back cover.

Hi,
Fixed my phone.. But I did a stupid thing by opening case the second time in which a small tape attached to the speaker came off.
(Near the sim card there is a gold circle). next to it there is a rectangluar film which came out the second time i opened. Don't know where should that tape go.
Can i stick the tape?

Are you referring to this tape? It appears just to be an electrostatic tape.
The Sim slot is nowhere near the speaker though, unless you were referring to something else.

That is the flex cable for the physical volume control. You probably ripped part of it off while taking the motherboard off, it's common mistake if you didn't take it apart with precautions.
Here is one link on eBay for replacement part for the maguro version. Just search galaxy nexus volume flex

I have an Tab S 8.4 LTE. Since upgrading to stock android 5.0.1 (from Sammobile), I have been getting screen flickering, screen freezes, and also random shutdown/restarts. None of that happened on 4.4.2, which the device came with. I've tried the following to correct the problems, with no luck: reinstall 5.0.1, cache wipe from recovery, factory data reset. Is my problem common? Is there a solution? Should I go back to 4.4.2?
A lot of problems you have mentioned is supposedly caused by an faulty/loose battery connector on the 8.4" , a lot of people say it started after upgrading to lollipop which is still not confirmed.
You can try the fix in the link below, but if it is a faulty battery connector a repair is your only real remedy to you problem.
This problem is quite common, have search you might find a more help.

This is a common problem of Samsung tablet, battery connector is prone to crack: flickering screen, random shutdown/restart, quick discharge, battery capacity fluctuation.
If you look at Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 threats, flickering problem is the same as this model. However, the fix is simple: re solder the battery connector. Go to a repair shop or anyone knows how to re work for assistance , the work takes only under 5 minutes. No need to remove the main board, just disconnect battery cable and do the re work of battery connector's solder joints.
This battery connector is not exactly but similar to yours:
In fact, it did start after the upgrade to Lollipop, so I want to say that, for me, that is confirmed. It never happened prior to that. Nevertheless, it could be a pre-Lollipop problem. Since the unit is still in warranty, I will try to explain the problem to Samsung here. They are usually pretty good about it when I get the chance to talk with a repair tech.
Try this fix in the thread below, it worked foe an Tab S owner the other day with screen flickering.

Repaired motherboard But I don't know what exactly they did
Well, I followed the instructions to force GPU screen renderiing and for about a day, it seemed to fix the flicker/restart problem. Then, boom, it came back. So it must be a hardware issue. Off to Samsung I go.
I wonder how hot the cpu gets when the screen starts to flicker, you can download free cpu temp apps from Google Store
John.
I took the tab s to Samsung and they found it was a battery problem. They replaced the battery and all seems well after a week. Now my question is, if I use my S4 charger, which has a little lower output than the tab's charger, will that cause any problem to the battery, beyond slower charging?
Slower charging as you said will most likely problem, use the free app below to check you charging rate, look at the average ma, and press refresh a few time, on the pro version you do not have to press refresh.

I wonder what did you do to fix the problem ?
Soldering worked.
I had the screen flickering problem and also random reboots on Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 (SM-T900) and figured out that it is probably to do with the battery connector based on this post and an other post. When I opened the back cover and touched the battery connector, it just came out from its position. Samsung did a very poor job in designing this very important component which is the lifeline of the device.
However, following your advice, I first hesitated to solder it myself. I called up a repair guy and explained him that I need soldering the battery connector and he prompted $65 as the cost for it. So I decided to give a shot myself. I tried my hand at it and was able to get it done.
IMPORTANT: The connector ends are very very small and so you would need a soldering iron having a pointed tip. All you would need is to clean the battery connector ends with a hair brush and apply a very thin coating of soldering flux and have the solder lead on the pointed tip. The points on the circuit board are very close to couple of IC's and so be very careful not to touch them at all. Also, the plastic used in the battery connector component is not a good quality plastic and so be very careful in handling it.
Once the battery connector is soldered, I haven't seen any flickering so far and random reboots are gone. So far so good. I shall update this post if I see any deviation or any other update relevant with this issue.
Thank you @Beut for your post and providing insight about the problem.

Don't forget that a loose white battery connector also a factor of flickering, usually when disconnected it many times, this white connector may not make good contact with pins of black battery connector. I had one that black battery connector already resoldered but it still flickered at 70% batttery. I did a simple fix by pushing the opening tip closer. Many good batteries were wasted because most users don't know this simple trick, just disconnect and connect battery may fix auto reboot problem and don't know why.
This is what it looks like when a cable removed from the connector:
This is a bad contact, pin sits in the middle of opening of cable clip.
This is the adjustment to make the opening closer:
How to do it with a thin knife:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PU0OoZSbma8&feature=youtu.be
Then, this is a good contact
After the fix of male and female battery connectors ( black and white ), I guarantee that flickering, freeze, auto restart, auto shutdown problems will not return, unless you have a bad battery.

I don't think you can find it online. Re solder is sufficient, no need to replace a new one.
But why you need a new connector ? Broken or damaged ? If you need one I may help you where to find it, but change this connector is not simple as re solder unless you know how and have right equipment like hot air gun, hot plate ...etc....
in a worst case scenario.

As of now, things are fine. The tablet is working fine even on longer duration of usage like playing videos on YouTube app continuously or video calls. The battery charge is lasting long besides there is no overheating like it happened before when the connector was loose. Thanks again.
However, when the connector got detached earlier, I observed that the plastic used to design that component is of pretty cheap quality and I doubted if it would stand even before I soldered. Anyways, I managed to solder that without breaking/damaging it. My fear is that the plastic base on which the (metal) connector components were placed in side-by-side fashion would disintegrate if when the plastic base gets damaged and that is my worry. I hope you understood my point.
Also, I would appreciate if you point me to any links that would explain a little more about these components.
Hello everyone,
It's me again. If anyone wants to follow up my story - starts here https://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/help/broken-power-ribbon-cable-t3678454
In short, I replaced my battery with new one from ebay and changed the module that includes the power buttons, SD card reader and ambient light sensor.
Phone booted up finally. First I had an issue with the earspeaker. Turned out the golden pins were stretched and weren't giving good contact with the daughterboard. I straightened them up and it's now working.
But the back camera is not working, also the flashlight. By not working I mean not recognized by the camera app, only the front camera is showing. I disassembled the device again and reassembled it to fix the earspeaker and I replugged the camera module too, but still not working.
Anyone has any ideas? The connection on the camera is pretty solid, unlike the earphone.
Are the camera and flashlight related somehow? I think the flashlight is on the motherboard?! Is it possible I didn't assemble some other connection right? Everything looks good to me.
I read some other people having these kind of problems and they couldn't get them to fixed state. I'm open up to any suggestions, I can open up the device again and take some photos if needed.
Thanks in advance.
P.S: This is how the camera connector looks like.
EDIT: The phone is on 4.28.401.3 - stock ROM, unrooted.

I would be taking a very close look at the ribbon cables for any tiny nick or cut that may have happened whilst you were inside. I assume you had to change the buttons&SD card piece because of this too ?.
Hello again.
I disassembled the phone again a few minutes ago and I took a careful look at all the connections. All look good to me.
I also took some photos, which can be seen here.
https://1drv.ms/f/s!Al_dYl8M6sF1l5lOFKbs7baxQXAapA
I'm calling out to people who have opened their M9s if they can see anything out of sense on the images.
I'm putting one image here to draw some attention
Thank you
I can't see anything jumping out. I would expect that the problem would lie somewhere in one of the ribbon cables though, I would get a flashlight on them and looks for any tiny tears, cuts or stretches especially around where they might have occurred when trying to pry the original battery out.

As the flashlight is soldered to the motherboard, why do you think a cable connection would be faulty? I checked all of them and all seem good.
On a couple of more topics I have seen people complaining about both back camera and flashlight not working. Seems they are related somehow, I would really like to find out how.
There is a golden part behind the flashlight, I assume it's for contact. I first thought bad contact could be the issue, so I made sure it's touching the upper board good.
Solved!

I had the same problem after the replacement of the battery of my HTC One M9.
The solution is the cable in the daughterboard connecting the motherboard. You should press it firmly in the socket. Its quite difficult to notice this socket which is behind the rubber holder of the two antenna wires.
The back camera and the flashlight are now working perfectly.

Thank you for your answer,
Can you please mark with a circle where exactly is this connection that I should look at. Thank you.
EDIT: I think I noticed it, the cable that part of it goes below the motherboard.
Thanks for the hint.
There goes another disassemble
I have removed the rubber protector and unveiled the connector. It was firmly in the socket. I removed it and attached it again, just in case.
... The camera is still not working.
By the way, I have spoken with a friend of mine, who is working closely with programming camera chips and he told me the flashlight requires permission of the camera module to turn on in Android. That's why the flashlight isn't working either.
At least that's some explanation
It still bugs me what could have gone wrong with the camera. I'm still open to any ideas

Flash a stock firmware. You might get it going again. It seems to be complaining that a file isn't where it is supposed to be. It could be a borked nand or it just "forgot"...
If a stock rom doesn't fix it then you'll be looking for a new camera board.
I'm pretty sure the /sys directory is in the ramdisk. As far as I remember, Linux uses that directory for functions (like /proc) and kernel parameters. So it should be rebuilding on device reboot.
I am on stock everything, never flashed anything else.
Update: I took it to a service center that said it was experienced with M9. They have replaced two new cameras and none of them worked. I'm running out of ideas.
Did you find any solution to this?
I am having the same problem after replacing the power button strip. Too add salt to my wounds, my USB port is also malfunctioning. It does not start charging when the device is on. When off, it charges. If i turn it on while charging from off, it continues to charge after I turn it on as well. The USB is not detected by any computer, but when I have it in the recovery mode, my PC makes the notification sound of USB getting connected.
The camera was working after the replacement of the button, before I put on the screws and the back cover (I turned on the phone when it was open to check if it was working properly). However, when I assembled the phone, it stopped working. I re-opened, checked the connections and all but no... nothing.
I guess re-flashing the rom with the RUU is my only option left. Waiting for my SD card to arrive as my USB is not getting detected.
Let me know if you have worked a solution around this.
Sounds mad but have you tried disassembling and seeing if the camera worked again if you had the phone in the same state that you knew it was working last?..

Yes. Disassembled and tried it. Not working. Flashed the RUU as well. Nothing happened. Camera, flashlight and USB not working. :'(. Out of options. Wanted this phone to work till I could get my hands on HTC U11 plus. Still not released in the US.
Disassembled 3rd time. Nothing. Can I go to the stock firmware? When the phone was first shipped?
I tried to install the RUU but gave me an error of android version missing IO
Any other suggestions.
P.S. My usb doesnt work either. Charges only when the phone is off and continues to charge if I start charging when the phone is off and continue to charge.
The connection from the mother to the daughter board is where exactly? A ribbon cable connection? on the left side of the opened phone? Near the 2 signal cables?
#MeToo
This and more happened to me as well. Its been a learning experience. I lost the power and volume buttons & SD card reader that took me a bit to figure out. I tore my SIM reader flex cable and the rear camera did not come with the daughter board the first time I removed it from the phone. I lost my IR for a few days as well (probably due to a loose mother/daughter flex cable. Everything is fixed (very cheaply) except on the camera. Waiting on replacement then I should be as good as new!
Cheers,
Amber

Hello again.
I disassembled the phone again a few minutes ago and I took a careful look at all the connections. All look good to me.
I also took some photos, which can be seen here.
I'm calling out to people who have opened their M9s if they can see anything out of sense on the images.
I'm putting one image here to draw some attention
Thank you

:victory: Probably solution to BACK CAMERA
Hi there guys!
I was having this issue several time ago until now.
What I did?
1 Clear cache, and data of camera app (In this case HTC Camera 8.50).
2 Reboot
3 Take my phone on horizontal position and open camera app
All looks working again!!
After changing by myself battery plus SD flex... And this issue occured
That why I had to order a new back camera part (OEM compatible) and apply all steps to catch it in working order
What about using a different camera app
Do you have the HTC diagnostics setup correctly?
I have just replaced the battery and found my camera not working.
I found that a push-fit connector had been dislodged and was not connected to the camera board. It's the black rectangular bit just behind the T5 screw in the picture below.
