[Q] ZL keeps shutting off: simplified answer ? - Sony Xperia ZL

after suddenly turning off during skype for first occurance after 13months of usage, within 2weeks phone is useless. next thing to crash was maps, then text and finally as soon as phone loads to homescreen it immediately turns off. the battery takes charge and shows 100%. its out of warranty so just want to know exact reason so i can figure out if its inexpensive solution at repair store or few hundred dollars which means its done. fyi, i cannot do any computer fixes, im not software savvy, would just appreciate guidance prior to evaluate if feasable to get it operating again, thanks !

Are you reflash new rom? Maybe battery calibration not inccurate. You can try battery calibrating
Sent from my Xperia ZL using XDA Free mobile app

thanks for idea. I wouldnt know how to do that and the fact that the phone turns-off as soon as it restarts makes anything difficult to do. I will use this suggestion and maybe more if there is extra replies to someone who has the ability to do these functions .

Agreed. The ZL's battery has problems. Get in touch with Sony or buy a new battery and change it yourself (which isn't too hard but you must be careful in there. I changed the battery on a friend's ZL and it was glued very well. Took quite a bit of force).

thanks for the comments! the phone is out of warranty by 1month. i will call sony and report the problem and they better do something since it was $650 and i could of got a S4 like all my friends and still had a working good phone! i'll post what happens.

for sure if its not the firmware it could be the battery , check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yADs4OsAXg :good:

[Q] [XS] Slugishness problems and major problems

Hi everybody,
since September 2012 i own a Xperia S. At the beginning it actually worked very well but now its a complete catastrophy. The phone is extremely slow even without any apps, sometimes it just crashes and i have to force a reboot, the walkman app just freezes a few seconds and the music doesnt play in that time, the homescreen with both new and old xperia home is extremely slow and some apps just wont open even after the third click on them and only work if i restart my phone. A few little bugs are ok but when i buy a phone for 400€ i think it should at least work fluently. I meant it was Sony's flagship for Gods sake. The back cover is etremelyscratched and is not matte anymore EVEN THOUGH i used cases from the begining. The S would be such a nice device IF everything would work. I contacted Amazon(where i bought it) earlier and they said they could try to repair it. do you think that could actually help? In addition i must say my phone was rooted and even with custom Roms like xzx it was really slo. I repaired it already using the PC Companion, SUS and even by whiping everything and reflashing the STock firmware, still nothing. What do you think i can/should do? as im still a student i really dont have a lot of money but paying 400€ for that phone and then not being able tu use ist normally is just horrbile.
I would really appreciate your help:
PS: Selling would of course be an option but i would only get 250€ and thats not really a lot and enough to buy a nother Smartphone,,,

Usually, a fresh repair will solve all those slowness. But you said that after tons of repairs, the phone is still sluggish. It is definitely not normal. Best solution is to send it in for warranty or demand for a replacement unit. Best of luck.
i really hope that will work.. else im just going to sell it and buy a nexus
Post questions in Q/A from next time please. Not in General.
And yes it looks like u have faulty unit. Cause XS is not that sluggish as you are experiencing it.
ok sry didnt see that i will do so from nowon yes amazon is looking at the problem and will tell me tomorrow if i can send it in

CAUTION

I request users to please check the screens closely of their Xperia ZL. Disable the "auto-brightness", keep the brightness to maximum and set the screen time out a little higher say 5 minutes. My Software version is 4.2.2. The screen FLICKERS. I had my previous Xperia ZL exchanged because of this problem and the "new" phone has the same issue. I am currently having a miserable experience with Sony and their service centers here in India. My previous ZL had a motherboard problem and I am not totally sure if the "new" one is really new or the old wine in a new bottle. If things persist like this I'll probably head to the consumer court.
Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm the problem seems to come and go. But my previous ZL had a motherboard issue as confirmed by SONY. As I'm typing this message, there's no flickering at all. I am confused. I want to get things right within the warranty period.

Yes, it is very frustrating. Some just restart their phone and the problem is just gone. Some experience the problem again after a few days. And not many people have this problem. So, we can't tell right now if the problem comes from the new firmware or from the hardware itself.
When I keep brightness full n that brightness slider is on screen it flickers once while rotating the screen.. When I remove that brightness slider n go to main settings menu no flickering occurs also when auto rotate off no flicker...i thing but I never use full brightness n moreover it flickers just once before rotating so I guess nothing much to worry.

Hmm btw another question, the replacement unit I got comes loaded with those wallpapers one usually sees in demo units. Here, the ones in the last few rows. Please check this link :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2152482
And is it true that it's not possible to get a SIM running in demo units? I am able to make and receive calls but, for some reason I'm getting a feeling that the replacement I got is a demo unit. The IMEI number on the box and that of the phone are the same but the box does not contain the charger, earphones and the USB cable.
BTW, what I mean by flickering is CONTINUOUS faint flickering of the screen. On the entire screen. The screen shivers!

Yes only the phone was replaced by them. But, the flickering comes and goes. I am having a horrible time here. Is there any chance of a refund? Worst case, I will ask them to give me an XZ as I have lost all faith in ZL anymore.
Every xperia has a demo installed in the phone..it has a demo folder somewhere inside the internal memory which contains the video demo file I foud out when I was exploring the internal memory n there is some code to activate demo on the phone all phones so no need to worry abt that n regarding only getting phone...its policy that company will exchabge obly things that u have problems with...since you had problem in phone and not in accessories so they sent you only phone nothing much I myself got replacement for faulty led indicator n they replaced only phone...

I have done all possible things from my end. My first ZL had a motherboard problem and after much argument, I got the replacement which isn't any better. They initially wanted to replace the motherboard only but I rejected it. I had asked for a completely new phone.
I usually keep the display at "auto". But now, I have kept it at "max" to check if the flickering occurs. It comes and goes. I last saw the flickering today morning. I will ask for a refund since I cannot keep a faulty product. And, I agree with you about ZL>Z in many aspects. This phone fits my requirements perfectly but what I have been going through over the past few days...a real nightmare.

It's 100% related to the 4.2.2 update, so be comforted it's not in anyway hardware related. This was one of the primary reasons I downgraded back to 4.1.2.

The problem is temporarily solved with a fresh install of the 4.2.2 update and then randomly comes again. I do not know what to do. I am forced to run to the service centers time and again. Is there any way to downgrade to 4.1.2 without losing the warranty?
Yes, you can downgrade back to stock 4.1.2 firmware, many of us have done it (flickering was one of biggest reasons). It will keep your warranty 100% intact since the bootloader isn't touched. Remember, only unlocking your bootloader voids your warranty, and you're not doing that here. You're simply using a 3rd party tool (Flashtool) in place of Sony's PCC/SUS tool to flash a 100% stock Sony ROM.
Just follow these instructions I posted last week: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342680

[Q]Help! Regarding my Xperia Play's Back Key.

Hi guys, I have my Xperia play for more than a year already and a couple of months ago it's back key stopped functioning but not yet completely. Sometimes it's okay but 90% of the time it's not. Whenever it's not working, I just press it hard enough or press it fast enough a couple of times and it'll work again. It's pretty annoying but luckily our Xperia Play has the "O" button on our game pad and it serves as a return key. I'm having a hard using my phone with it's game pad slid down all the time. Even in flashing because I need to force my back key to function again before I can flash ftf's. Anyway, I searched the web and on xda as to what the problem might be and I came up with some method to fix it but I tried them and it didn't work like updating from Sony Update Centre and editing keypad.kl but still the problem persists. I wanted to fix this now because I've been annoyed by this for far too long and because I love my Xperia Play more than my GS4. I wanted to ask you guys what other possible reasons as to why my Xperia Play's back key isn't functioning well anymore? Could it be that it might be a physical problem not software related? Because the other day it's home key started to f****d up too but it only happened once and it never happened again unlike it's back key. My last option is to bring it to Sony Centre and let them fix it. So, any suggestions guys before I bring it there? Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for replying! And yes, I do understand what you're trying to say, but the problem is that I had my Xperia Play for a year and a half already and it's warranty is only covered for a year. So I need to pay for it if I brought it to Sony Centre. They also told me it'll take up to a month or two before I can have my Xperia Play back. That's why I want to know if there's anything I can do before I'll go to my last option because the cost of repairing it is almost half the price of my Xperia Play when I first bought it.

ZL C6503 turning off after rooting

Unlocked bootloader and rooted phone but now is causing my issues. Whenever I use mobile data and connect to maps my phone turns off after 30 seconds or so. Sometimes it won't even turn on I have to connect to charger then it's fine. This happens every time.
I'm on 4.2.2
Build .244
This started after I flashed the above build. This happens Even on older versions. Help please.
You did a full reset and wipe (incl the internal SD)?
Problems otherwise likely.

I believe so will try again.should I flash via external card? Come to thinking don't think I did.
No difference still same issue.
Should have left it no point rooting this, last time I probably buy Sony.

I have C6506, I have overheating and reboots. When it overheats a little it reboots automatically, sometimes even doesn't get to homescreen.
I've send a letter to sony, but about 4 days, no answer!
I rooted the phone, unlocked the bootloader, flashed stock firmware and nothing changed for a while, but then suddenly it rebooted.
And I locked bootloader, and full wiped all phone, all sd cards, but no luck. Even unrooted the phone, but the Overheating is still there. ;(
Some tips.Answer for Z1 is firmware downgrading, but is it for our ZL! ?

Well in the end I just sent it in for repairs. Sony are trying to fix issue, it's been over 10 days still not sorted. I think they are awaiting parts, will keep you posted.
Unsure if I will be charged for this or not.
Btw downgrading didn't make a difference.

I guess Sony makes it harder for them selves for making so much problems with these Battery's for ZL,Z,Z1 phones. So much clients are very sad and angry and probably they won't buy another Xperia phone ever again. This was an SHOCK FOR ME, that such a company (SONY) would be so lightminded about their phones.
REALLY SAD!

I did flash generic rom and unlock boot loader via flash tool.
Some say that these problems with inbuilt battery are because of the chargers.
The seller i bought from said that it could solve the problem by finsing the original usb cable and the charger.
The problem with me is that my adapter is for USA and I can't simply use in Latvia(Europe).
So try charging youre phone with original usb and adapter, that came with youre phone.
Somebody knows prices for fizing this problem if sony charges from me.?

[Q] [urgent help needed!] Phone does not boot up unless connected to USB power source

My Sony Xperia ZL is NOT booting up unless it has an external power supply. The phone vibrates, shows the SONY bootscreen, and then dies. Also, the phone runs perfectly until i disconnect it and it simply dies in the blink of an eye. I have an unlocked bootloader and was on CM10.2, flashed the stock ftf for 4.3, then 4.2, and yet nothing worked! My device is just around 8 months old and i doubt that my battery can be dead all of a sudden when it was giving decent backup until today!

My Sony Xperia ZL is NOT booting up unless it has an external power supply. The phone vibrates, shows the SONY bootscreen, and then dies. I'd advice you to take it to the service center.

my bootloader is unlocked so the warranty will most probably be void. Also, since this is a sudden development, am hoping it's a software problem.

If you have taken a backup of your TA partition, then relock your bootloader before you go to the service center.
I'm pretty sure that your battery is dead.
Do you have a Trim Area backup? If so, restore it and then take it to service.

i have the same issue, tested with service menu and it said battery status is GOOD...
but whats the different between u and me is i didn't unlock the bootloader, but i used the phone more than 1 year and so the warranty is not valid anymore...

ITS YOUR BATTERY! TRUST ME!
I had the exact same issue. Just spring for a 30$ battery from eBay. Worked for me! I also brought an Xperia T back to life by replacing the battery ?. It would only show a blinking red light but wouldnt boot or charge. New battery fixed it. Sony DEFINITELY has some kinks to work out with their batteries. At the very least they need to go back to removable ones.

You can use it while charging but not while its off charge. If the sony center denies the problem with the battery, No one can help you. You need to check the battery. Hardware related issue. So none of us can help you out online. Please try to get your battery replaced. I think you can do that.
