SlimKat build 7.0 questions - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Didn't have a high enough post count to post directly in the current M8 SlimKat thread - hope no one minds me posting here.
Got a new M8 this afternoon and didn't hesitate to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, and root. I flashed the most recent build (7.0) of SlimKat, but was confronted with some problems. It seems that the home and recents navigation buttons aren't working. When I change them to a different action, it works fine - it's only when I change them back to home and recents that they refuse to work. The settings tile in the quick settings drawer also does not response to being pressed. When I'm in the system settings, I can't seem to get some changes to get through either. For example, I'll make some changes to the global menu (the menu that comes up when holding down the power button, showing options for power off/rebooting/volume settings) and exit settings, but then the changes won't show up when I open up the global menu itself.
I've reflashed the ROM twice, cleared the cache and Dalvik cache three times, and restarted countless times. Any ideas of what might be going on?
For the mean time, I'll just downgrade to the previous SlimKat build.

[Q] N7100 Phoenix 18.8 some probs question

Hi to everyone!
I´m new here, so I can write only here my questions.
I´ve flashed on my N7100 Phoenix 18,8 ROM, I have MJ5 bootloader. I´ve done a full wipe install, was on slimkat rom then gone to P18,8 with full wipe trough Philz 15,5 CWM. I found a few missing or not working things on this rom:
1. I miss in settings option to receive call with home button, in 4,3 v17 it was possible. Only by voice or gesture now possible.
2. I´ve tried to start use air gesture, e.c. call receive but it seems that it doesnt work, I cant receive a call with gesture. It doesnt work also when a test it in settigs. Gestures are alloved, turned on. Then a tried gestures in Gallery, I can see icon in status bar but nothing happens. Maybe some bug with sensor?
3. Some setting working by switching toggles but not in settings menu.
4. Through wanam not able to have call button in contact list, only in call logs.
5. Delivery nnotify toast seems not to work.
6. I miss a circle mod battery that changed color, in the middle was batt percentage, some other bat icons are there. Not a bug, I only miss it.
Any ideas? Maybe next update of rom will fix it, or I have done something bad?
Thanks a lot for answers.
Any ideas?

Double tap to recent apps NuSenseSix6.8 M7

I seemed to have lost my double tap Home to recent apps.. I just went from NuSenseSix ROM 6.1 to 6.8 clean flash, factory reset, wiped data dvlk and cache/ formatted data. Updated the radios and am on the required TWRP..
I tried to set it in Gravitybox Navigation keys actions but still no luck.. I also didn't install the Motion Gestures with Free Your Mind (subsense).. I tried with it earlier but it didn't work so I reflashed everything again.. Several times trying to pinpoint the conflict..
Thanks for any help!

The Motion Gestures only need the in included kernel, Xposed, and Sense 6 Toolbox now.
There is no need for subsense.
As for the recents option, it's because you did not choose stock button configuration in aroma.
So you lost that buttons option in settings.
If you did chose stock button layout, then it will be in button settings to reassign it.

Thanks I noticed in your changelog and posts that I wouldn't need subsense.. Could you remove it from the OP about Motion Gestures?
In aroma, I have been choosing the stock button layout and tried it again with no luck.. but you gave me an idea so this time I chose logo2menu and I have it back!
Thanks for quick response, I've been using your ROM since first released it and love it!
*Update** so I was adjusting my Gravitybox sense6 toolbox and trickster and ended up losing my double tap to home again.. But I did a few things right after that seemed to have fixed it but I'm not sure exactly which did it:
1. In sense6 toolbox> sense mods > unchecked Reduce gap
2. In Gravitybox > Navigation keys actions > Under Home Key > Double-tap action > chose Show recent apps
*note: this didn't work for me when I had chosen stock button layout in aroma installer
3. In trickster under Specific > Screen Wake Control > turned off Sweep2wake, turned off Logo2wake (this might've been already off, not sure), and turned off Logo2Menu. I left Pocket detection and Logo2Menu on
Everything seems to be working fine now
I feel like what I did in #2 did the trick seeing as when I initially installed with stock buttons all the adjustments I tried to make didn't work.. But this time since choosing Logo2Menu in aroma I was able to fix it..

[Q] My G3's home screen keeps refreshing

So I am not sure what is causing this but after rooting my phone, I installed Xposed, G3 Tweaks, did some tweaking, rebooted fine a couple times, then I decided to see about changing the system font. Downloaded Fonter, an xposed module and chose Roboto (after downloading).
Then when I rebooted, my home screen just keeps refreshing, alternating between black and the wallpaper. I can't open anything on the home screen, not even the appdrawer.
I can open the notifications panel, and go into settings and Apps...which is where I uninstalled Xposed and Fonter, etc but on reboot - same thing.
Any ideas? Oh and I can boot in safe mode and everything's fine there.
Thanks in advance.
download exact same ROM from LG or elsewhere and install with LG flash tool 2014 etc, nothing will be lost in terms of apps(everything back to normal) as long as its the same ROM version and you select "normal flash" gl.

Thanks - this worked, although it failed to get into download mode on the first two tries.
But I still don't get it....why didn't Factory reset clear everything? When I rooted the phone, did it stay rooted even after the factory reset?
Thanks again.
Factory reset , afaik, doesn't clean up the system partition thus root and any system tweaks remain intact.
solved without reflash
I had the exact same problem on my d855......my method was more straight forward than reflashing the Rom...Google now seemed to open with no problems....did a phone search for fonter from the Google now search.....fonter shows up as an app.....open fonter and quickly hit the 3 bar menu on the left to corner and settings in the fonter app....you have to be really quick in order to open the fonter settings page before it refreshes....try using multiple fingers at once ...once in the settings page in the fonter app...choose the "restore default" option and reboot......everything should be them back to normal.....
It might take a few tries....but this is definitely easier than reflashing the Rom

Yeah I realised I could have done that but I wasn't 100% sure it was fonter since I did other tweaks and was pending a reboot.
Also I could have switched the shell to Easy Home instead of the default and that would have given me an app drawer. I would have left it like that if the flashing didn't work. Finished everything about 4 am.
An interesting sidenote....the battery life on the phone is *considerably* better, even after installing all my apps

[Q] Home button not working on 5.0.2

On a 2013 LTE Nexus 7 with the latest 5.0.2 installed, my home button doesn't work. The back and recent apps buttons work fine, but the home button doesn't do anything. Like the rest of the buttons, it responds to touch with an animation, but it doesn't take me home, ever, and it also doesn't launch Google Search on hold. I've read in other posts that there should be a "Home" menu option in Settings under the Device section, but I don't have that either. Another oddity, quick settings pulldown from the status bar isn't working. I can pull down the notification tray, but cannot pull down the quick settings above it.
Doing some tinkering of my own, I can tell you the following:
Wiping the data partition resolves the problem, but I'm trying to keep my user accounts, home screens, apps intact, hence my continued search for solution
Using a different launcher (Google Now Launcher via Play Store), the home button works fine but I'd rather use the default system Launcher
Reflashing the factory system image doesn't resolve the problem
There are no force close error messages
Clearing data/cache for the Launcher app doesn't resolve the problem
Clearing all cached data (through the storage menu option within settings, for each user) also doesn't resolve the problem
I have been tinkering (root, multirom, etc) but right now I'm on a fresh, unrooted factory system image, but with my "dirty" data partition (I'm trying to keep my user accounts, home screens, apps intact)
Any ideas of what might be upsetting the Launcher app? Next steps?
Same here.
I haven't tried your entire list, but I've done a few of them. Oddly, when i hit "recent apps", i can then hit "home" and it works. But that's the only time. And my notifications seem to be dead, as well as quick settings...
Background: I'm all stock. I got a system update notice for 5.1.1, which i was pretty sure i already had. So while checking my current OS version, I ended up verifying that i was up to date already. Shortly thereafter, the home button stopped responding and the tablet froze up. I can't remember if it rebooted by itself or if i had to long press the home button to get it to turn off. But when it came back on, it's like everything went factory reset (all the homescreens returned to factory), but all my apps are still there in the app drawer, but they all act as if i just installed them. I have to go into them and re-login to all of them and change all their settings to how i like them. And the homescreens will need to be redone. And the "home" button and notifications still don't work. Tried Nova, but that doesn't fix any of the issues for me. I may try the Google Now Launcher next.
It looks like ahoyboyhoy has tried flashing factory image and it doesn't help, so i'm not going to factory reset if I'll be stuck in the same situation in the end.
To follow up on *my* experience with this problem, I ended up having to format the data partition, so basically a full factory reset. After that, everything was back to normal and I restored apps from a backup.

Thanks for the update! Were you stock? If so, what was the best way you found to do a backup/restore of apps? Did it handle app data? I tried using Helium a few years ago on an HTC device, but I ran into problems that couldn't be overcome. Does Android's built-in backup option work well? I never have had good app data recovery with the buil-in option...

I was stock rooted and I think I used My Backup Pro. Not sure if you need a paid version or root access to backup app data, but I was able to back up apks+data and although it wasn't as seamless as a TWRP backup, it was better than doing things manually.

[Q] Paranoid Android Issues

Hi Guys,
After flashing PA 5.1 and sorting out my niggles with gapps I have a few issues I can't seem to fix, I'm using a OnePlus One:
1. Home button does not return to home, tried changing its function in different launcher apps in addition to changing the function in the main settings menu however I can get the secondary actions to work but not it's primary action of returning home.
2. The pull down bar from the top of the screen no longer allows you to click into settings now it just displays a couple of icons but you can't click on them, in the previous Alpha release you could get into the settings menu by pulling down from the top which was helpful for WiFi or changing location settings etc. Is this function gone? Or is it's setting hidden?
I know these are small things but it's the little things that make up the user experience, any help is greatly appreciated thank you.
This sounds like you installed the wrong gapps

Thanks for your reply however after a process of elimination it turns out that restoring data from Titanium Backup was the rout cause. I was told in a different post that I could restore my data from PA Alpha to PA 5.1 but unfortunately that isn't the case.
You can restore data. I do it all the time. I have been using the same method for 5 years.
#stayparanoid
Not sure why it broke for me then :/
Definitely was the data restore portion of titanium, I tested it again to make sure and it broke the same functions of the ROM.
Are you using the batch option and selecting 'Restore missing apps and data'? You should never restore SYSTEM data
