[Q] My G3's home screen keeps refreshing - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I am not sure what is causing this but after rooting my phone, I installed Xposed, G3 Tweaks, did some tweaking, rebooted fine a couple times, then I decided to see about changing the system font. Downloaded Fonter, an xposed module and chose Roboto (after downloading).
Then when I rebooted, my home screen just keeps refreshing, alternating between black and the wallpaper. I can't open anything on the home screen, not even the appdrawer.
I can open the notifications panel, and go into settings and Apps...which is where I uninstalled Xposed and Fonter, etc but on reboot - same thing.
Any ideas? Oh and I can boot in safe mode and everything's fine there.
Thanks in advance.

download exact same ROM from LG or elsewhere and install with LG flash tool 2014 etc, nothing will be lost in terms of apps(everything back to normal) as long as its the same ROM version and you select "normal flash" gl.

Thanks - this worked, although it failed to get into download mode on the first two tries.
But I still don't get it....why didn't Factory reset clear everything? When I rooted the phone, did it stay rooted even after the factory reset?
Thanks again.

Factory reset , afaik, doesn't clean up the system partition thus root and any system tweaks remain intact.

solved without reflash
I had the exact same problem on my d855......my method was more straight forward than reflashing the Rom...Google now seemed to open with no problems....did a phone search for fonter from the Google now search.....fonter shows up as an app.....open fonter and quickly hit the 3 bar menu on the left to corner and settings in the fonter app....you have to be really quick in order to open the fonter settings page before it refreshes....try using multiple fingers at once ...once in the settings page in the fonter app...choose the "restore default" option and reboot......everything should be them back to normal.....
It might take a few tries....but this is definitely easier than reflashing the Rom

Yeah I realised I could have done that but I wasn't 100% sure it was fonter since I did other tweaks and was pending a reboot.
Also I could have switched the shell to Easy Home instead of the default and that would have given me an app drawer. I would have left it like that if the flashing didn't work. Finished everything about 4 am.
An interesting sidenote....the battery life on the phone is *considerably* better, even after installing all my apps

[Q] Arghhhhh, TouchWiz Messed Up

I had LauncherPro running and used Titanium backup to freeze it. Now I cant use my Note coz it just keeps telling me that the TouchWiz is stopped and then the screen blacks out. Cant even get to Titanium Backup to unfreeze it.
Please help to either unfreeze or to reset in some way back to anything that works.
You could try installing another launcher via the play store website. It'll get pushed to your phone providing it's got a network connection.
I'm not sure if you can unfreeze an app via adb, if so you could give that a go.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
cant go to playstore or anything else on the note. can't change home screens, cant open an app either. can only use the hardware button to shut down. the touch screen is giving a stopped message when i unlock after boot and when I ok the message the screen blacks out. the message comes back in a few seconds but I can only ok the message and then the screen blacks out. CLOSED LOOP.
I meant go to the play store on a PC, it will get pushed to your phone over the air.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
I deleteed TouchWiz launcher with Titanium and now I don't have any FCs or problems with my Nova Prime launcher.
The white LauncherPro installed over the air from my pc but it didnt help as I dont have a way to activate it on my Note. Would need to see the screen to go into settings to activate it.
I'll have a look at adb even though I am quite sure it will not have the unfreeze option. Maybe I can reset to factory or similar.
Any other ideas are welcome.
It should have detected a new launcher and given you the option to select it, try something like GoLauncher (different from Launcher Pro you installed).
I'm still trying to think of ways to do it without resorting to wiping the phone.
If I do I'll let you know.

Just use odin to flash a stock rom. Or wipe your phone from the recovery.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
You can just reflash the to stock again.
i tried the go launcher and it worked fine but the ended up with google play and titanium backup missing among the installed apps so couldnt unfreeze LauncherPro and the if selected TouchWiz was still messed up. I finally gave up used adb to reboot into cwm and reset to factory.
Really confusing the TouchWiz is still an issue after the reset. and can't do any action on the phone. Looks like I will have to flash back to stock unless somebody can come up with something else otherwise please point me to where i can find the stock rom and flashing instructions.

I had a similar problem as the OP and though this thread didn't really help me, I figured I'd post what wound up working for me.
For starters, I was going to follow what was recommended on the Titanium Backup FAQ Item#21:
titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-backup-kb/titanium-backup-troubleshooting.html#frozen-too-many-apps-now-cant-use-device-to-launch-TB
However, I wasn't in front of my computer and I didn't want to be phone-less all day, so I tried to find some work around to get where I could unfreeze the important apps in TB.
My main problem was that I couldn't access any apps due to the fact that the home page would immediately fail and give me the "Touchwhiz Home has stopped working" error.
I still had partial access to the phone in that I could still access the pull-down menu.
Blocking mode was enabled so it showed up in the pull-down menu and I could click on it and then get into my phone settings.
I tried going through settings to get to TB and while I could get to the Application Manager, I couldn't directly launch it from there. I force-closed TB and rebooted the phone...big surprise, nothing changed.
I figured wiping Dalvic was worth a shot too (from CWM), but that didn't have much of an effect either (though it did force an app update on reboot).
Anyway, since I still had access to the pull down menu and notifications, I decided to see if I could txt myself a link (from another phone) to the TB googleplay location since you can launch the application directly from the Play store. Well, I got the txt, but I couldn't open it due to a "messaging has stopped working" error every time I clicked on it.
Since I got the notification, I knew information was still obviously getting to my phone, so I figured I'd give it a try via gmail since it is less tied to the phone launcher than messaging.
Sure enough, I got the notification and I was able to open gmail from the notification. Clicking on the googleplay link in the email successfully launched the Playstore. From there I was able to launch Titanium Backup and unfreeze Touchwhiz Home.
Hope this helps someone else, I was really not looking forward to doing a complete wipe and re-install of my whole phone.
This simple jumping around to get to TB does obviously require that you can access your notifications and that you have them turned on...otherwise you're still screwed.
If your phone is rooted and you have a custom Rom on, just Reinstall the Rom again without wiping anything through recovery. It will bring back the touchwiz launcher without touching your data. It might reset your app settings back at least all your contacts, messages, etc will still be there.

I just went through this. And maybe this will help the next person searching for a solution.
I froze touch wiz in Titanium and could not boot. So I went to Google Play on my desktpop and logged in. Then installed "Smart Launcher". I had no idea if it was installing or not but on Google Play on my desktop it said "installed" so i did a battery pull and restarted into Smart Launcher. Then rebooted again to get the prompt which launcher Iwanted to use and I chose "touch wiz" and "don't ask me again"

[Q] Problem with my Kindle - No status bar or system bar

Hi. I decided to root/ install a custom ROM on my Kindle 2 for the first time yesterday and everything went great. The root went well and the ROM (Powerpoint's ROM) was working great. I was messing with some of the settings last night and I messed something up with the Treybuchet launcher (it had to do with the grid size on homescreen) to where it kept closing everytime I tried to open it so I downloaded a few other launchers and it fixed the issue. Well, I liked the Treybuchet launcher so I decided I wanted to just reflash the ROM so it would be fixed.
So I went to the recovery menu and selected Wipe Cache, Dalvic Cache, Factory Reset, and then System and then installed the ROM file and GAPPS. Then I went back into the Wipe menu and decided to wipe Internal Storage because all my old files from my Kindle Fire were still there and I wanted them wiped.
So then I clicked restart and everything was going well when I got into the Google setup menu. Everything looked good and I entered in all my info. Then I got to the homescreen and the first thing I noticed was that the homescreen was black. There was no wallpaper set and it was just black. I could still see the default apps and the dock. So I clicked down and went into the wallpaper menu and tried to select one but it didn't change it.
And then after a minute, I noticed that there was no status bar or the bottom bar with the home button, back button, and app switcher. So whenever I clicked into an app, I was stuck in it until I rebooted the device. So I can't really do anything on my device right now because I have no back button or status bar or anything.
I've since reflashed a bunch of times and redownloaded the files and tried it, but nothing is working. I'm still missing the status/bottom bar and I'm thinking it may have had to do with my initial problem with Treybuchet.
I've also tried going into the Play Store to try to download a launcher, but for some reason my Play Store isn't downloading any apps either so I can't do that either. And plus I wouldn't know how I would be able to switch to the launcher without a home button anyways.
Can anyone help me please with this?
Sorry for making my OP so long.
Basically what I'm saying is that when I reinstalled one of the ROMs, my status bar and system bar are not there anymore and I'm not sure what to do now. Has this happened to anyone else?

what you guys need to do is use twrp to get to fastboot, then flash stock, and finally reflash everything. look here...
I was able to get it working by pushing the ROM and gapps through adb.
Once I got the zips in sdcard, installed it normally from trwp.

Thank you so much. I did fastboot mode and restored my device and now I have the stock interface back, so that's a good thing. I'll probably try to reflash CM10.1 a little later, but it's good having a usable device again for the time being
Same problem here
Hi,
I have the same problem here with my kindle fire 2
I tried to root with Root many android utility and several times it didn`t work. At some point in one of the restarts, the kindle started updating and then it booted to a black screen where there's not a menu or status bar and nothing can be done. Any time I try to do something, it shows the screen to connect to amazon account but as I haven't and can't configure wifi connection, I can't do anything.
So basically, the kindle starts but nothing can be done and the menu and status bar are not present
I've tried to re run the utility but when there's time to appear the restore screen on my kindl, nothing happens and the utility gets waiting forever as it states.
Anyone knows and can help me to fix the kindle???
Thanks!!!

[Q] SystemUI refusing to work, even after factory resets.

So, I'll lay this out in bullet form to be more organised. I'm using the VZW G3.
1. I rooted my phone with IORoot, everything worked fine
2. Downloaded SuperSU from the Play Store, installed using normal mode.
3. Rebooted
4. Decided with my new fancy root I can install a pretty font, so...
5. I downloaded Fontster from the Play Store. Installed Roboto Light or Thin I forgot. Something then happened, I forgot what, but I restarted my phone as it felt right.
6. It would bring up a popup with a crazy comic-sans font, saying system ui has stopped responding. It made everything impossible to use, only allowing shutting off via holding power button.
7. Having just purchased the phone, I decided to reset via the menu you get when you turn it on by volume down + power. Everything seemed fine other than the phone missing the default font, and just using the comic-y one instead.
8. I decided to root again, and I did, but when I did that the error from #6 shows up.
9. Now, even when I factory reset, the error just keeps happening making the phone impossible to use.
How can I fix this phone is resetting doesn't work? I'm not very savvy with these things, but with a well written guide I'm usually good.

I looked at a different guide earlier, luckily this one seems easier. I'll try in the morning.
I have seen so many people reporting this crash after messing with fonts over the last 24 hours.
I believe its because changing fonts deleted/removed/other the stock fonts on the device and then the whole thing decides to crash on you - probably due to the way the particular app you were using to change fonts decided to do it.
Your options are to use LG PC Suite, or "Flashtool 2014" to flash a KDZ file.
I had this yesterday. Fonster was the issue. Factory reset didn't help, nor did adding the affected fonts back to system/fonts.
In the end I followed @Lennyuk's thread to use LG PC suite to restore the rom, worked a treat.

[Q] "LG Setup Wizard Has Stopped" D851

Hi, new to the forum, I tired to figure out this problem on youtube to no avail. So I have a rooted g3 with twrp. After the botting process, it takes me to the setup screen. But after getting to the point where I pick the look of the onscreen home buttons etc, the wizard crashes, I press 'OK" and it starts over. So then I found a link here about going into twrp and deleting the setupwizard.apk file which is supposed to 'fix" the problem(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2668851). Did that then I rebooted but still same issue remains. What else can be done about this?
Can't you just skip it and do it manually

I had the same issue when flashing "Lonely Rom" and "Zone Rom" (come to find out my original out of the box rom crashed also if I went back into it and tried to do the set up again). 2 apks need to be deleted (4 if still odexed) LgStartUpWizard in system app folder and LgSetupWizard in priv-app folder. I edited my zip before flashing with all the updated Google equivalents plus some other stuff I normally do. The Google set up process worked like a charm and everything is running better than stock (better battery life and no noticeable lags) even though it's a "stock rom", I also run Xposed with several modules for my needs with no adverse effects here.

Hello,
I am new to the site, and fairly inexperienced with rooting. I used KingRoot to root my LG G3 and then did a factory reset so that I could re update to the current android version before rooting. Now I get stuck at the same point in the setup process. However, I do not have TWRP or CWM installed. What are my options?
Thanks

[Q] Home button not working on 5.0.2

On a 2013 LTE Nexus 7 with the latest 5.0.2 installed, my home button doesn't work. The back and recent apps buttons work fine, but the home button doesn't do anything. Like the rest of the buttons, it responds to touch with an animation, but it doesn't take me home, ever, and it also doesn't launch Google Search on hold. I've read in other posts that there should be a "Home" menu option in Settings under the Device section, but I don't have that either. Another oddity, quick settings pulldown from the status bar isn't working. I can pull down the notification tray, but cannot pull down the quick settings above it.
Doing some tinkering of my own, I can tell you the following:
Wiping the data partition resolves the problem, but I'm trying to keep my user accounts, home screens, apps intact, hence my continued search for solution
Using a different launcher (Google Now Launcher via Play Store), the home button works fine but I'd rather use the default system Launcher
Reflashing the factory system image doesn't resolve the problem
There are no force close error messages
Clearing data/cache for the Launcher app doesn't resolve the problem
Clearing all cached data (through the storage menu option within settings, for each user) also doesn't resolve the problem
I have been tinkering (root, multirom, etc) but right now I'm on a fresh, unrooted factory system image, but with my "dirty" data partition (I'm trying to keep my user accounts, home screens, apps intact)
Any ideas of what might be upsetting the Launcher app? Next steps?
Same here.
I haven't tried your entire list, but I've done a few of them. Oddly, when i hit "recent apps", i can then hit "home" and it works. But that's the only time. And my notifications seem to be dead, as well as quick settings...
Background: I'm all stock. I got a system update notice for 5.1.1, which i was pretty sure i already had. So while checking my current OS version, I ended up verifying that i was up to date already. Shortly thereafter, the home button stopped responding and the tablet froze up. I can't remember if it rebooted by itself or if i had to long press the home button to get it to turn off. But when it came back on, it's like everything went factory reset (all the homescreens returned to factory), but all my apps are still there in the app drawer, but they all act as if i just installed them. I have to go into them and re-login to all of them and change all their settings to how i like them. And the homescreens will need to be redone. And the "home" button and notifications still don't work. Tried Nova, but that doesn't fix any of the issues for me. I may try the Google Now Launcher next.
It looks like ahoyboyhoy has tried flashing factory image and it doesn't help, so i'm not going to factory reset if I'll be stuck in the same situation in the end.
To follow up on *my* experience with this problem, I ended up having to format the data partition, so basically a full factory reset. After that, everything was back to normal and I restored apps from a backup.

Thanks for the update! Were you stock? If so, what was the best way you found to do a backup/restore of apps? Did it handle app data? I tried using Helium a few years ago on an HTC device, but I ran into problems that couldn't be overcome. Does Android's built-in backup option work well? I never have had good app data recovery with the buil-in option...

I was stock rooted and I think I used My Backup Pro. Not sure if you need a paid version or root access to backup app data, but I was able to back up apks+data and although it wasn't as seamless as a TWRP backup, it was better than doing things manually.
