Having problem with Simple Mobile service, any other good ones? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Lately I have been experiencing poor service with simple mobile. In addition to that, they used to have an unlimited flat rate plan, now they add tax. And also they throttle you to edge speeds after 3gigs of data use. After they throttle me, when I reup for the next month it is like a **** show trying to get 4g speeds back. Their CS sucks and they blame it on my phone or sim card all the time. Im officially done.
1) Is there a better mvno out there?
2) Right now i got simple mobiles $50/month plan unlimited everything until after 3gigs of data, then edge speeds and with tax now its $55 and change. Im considering metro pcs $60 flat rate plan unlimited everything for $5 more. Anyone have experience with Metro PCS?
3) Metro pcs offers 4g "lte" speeds, is our phones capable of 4g "lte"? I think simple mobile uses "hspa+" which is supposedly equivalent, doubt it.
Thanks guys for the help.

Don't know about mvno's, but the T999 is not capable of LTE. You'd need the T999L, or if going with Metro, the T999N.

Metro is a good one if you don't want or can't unlock your device. Speeds are as good as T-Mobile with all taxes and fees included and its a flat rate if you pay online, and at store its only $3 payment fee.. As doc said T999 doesn't support LTE, only T999L and T999N..

So both the t999l and t999n are lte capable, but the t999l will not get lte with metro? What service for t999l then?

The two are identical in terms of hardware. Just one has T-Mobile firmware and the ither has metro firmware.

Wow that sounds good! Is it 4g speed data...through the whole 5gigs?
Update: Actually I just read their $45 plan, it says unlimited data and after 3gigs, speed is throttled for remainder of month. It is still $10 cheaper though than simple mobile. Might check it out, thanks.

Yeah I tried Simple Mobile once, they are ridiculous. You go over your data and they pretty much shut your data off and you can't even pay more to get more data. I use straight talk t-mobile on my t999l and love it. Get 3 gigs of 4g lte and after they throttle to 3g I belIeve, I didn't even have to unlock my phone just dropped in the SIM and set the apn and was working. For 45 a month I would recommend to anyone.

when I started it was 3GB but they upped it to 5GB after a month. this is the AT&T plan, maybe TMO is different.
It's not LTE, it's HSPA+ but quite fast here in Maine.
As to unlocking, I just called TMO and they emailed me the code. I owned the phone free and clear.

I get LTE here in Las Vegas on the T-mobile Straight Talk.

I don't see why it wouldn't. All you need is a sim card and the ability to change your plan to that one. I'd consider that plan myself, but I use too many minutes.
It'll be as fast as any other 21mbps HSPA device...

you should be able to use this with simple mobile also. so far, they have the really good deals for non contract service in USA.

Yeah it will; That's what I'm getting too Already have the sim card (DO NOT BUY AT A "Authorized Dealer" ... they rip you off beyond all reason... I normally avoid them but, for some reason, bought the card from them and paid an extra $15)
Btw if you do the math, you can do an extra 400 minutes in overages before you would be going over the $70 price of the Unlimited Everything (5GB of 4G) plan.
So with the $30 plan, you are better off if you use less than 500 mins per month... I use none ...

I think the $30 is worth trying to cut down on the voice anyway, and going with Text or Google Voice as an alternative for unimportant convos
In San Fran on T-Mo I got 4 down and 0.6 up.

I'm new to T-Mobile US. I remember reading something about there being issues when importing a GSM phone not distributed by T-Mobile. Maybe it was only related to porting the iPhone to T-Mobile? Can't remember.

The only issues bringing phones to T-mobile is they often only get 2G service on the network (most quadband phones don't have AWS freq that T-mo use). Other than that, everything works just fine. The Galaxy Nexus is of course pentaband and gets 3G just fine on T-mo.
FWIW there are several hundred thousand iPhones running unlocked on T-mobile right now lol.

I remember with Windows Mobile phones not sold by T-Mobile, to set up MMS you have to manually specify the gateway, server address, and port number to get MMS to work with T-Mobile's network. Is this still necessary? It's been several years since I had to do this so it might not be relevant anymore.

And btw OP, only you can know what the speeds are in your specific location. Even someone within a few miles of you could get quite different speeds because of the load on the tower nearest you.

Wait, so do you have to specify the network and APN or not? The "funny business" is exactly this manual specification of the network info.

Most of the time no. It should pull the info over the network and be all set up for you when you put the SIM in. If you find MMS doesn't work, changing APN settings might be required. You only do it once, it isn't a big deal.

[Q] Switching from ATT Galaxy S III to T-Mobile Galaxy S III (DC Metro)

ATT is screwing me by refusing to carry forward my unlimited data plan to LTE and has repeatedly tried to force me onto a capped plan.
I saw a newspaper ad today (archaic - I know!) saying T-Mo has an unlimited everything plan for this phone for $90 and it's tempting. I'm hoping to sell or swap my existing GS3.
Is there anything I should be aware of?
Also, what is T-mo's take on this plan if I try to tether?
Thanks.
I'm pretty sure you can just swap sims? Tethering has been beaten to death on these forums. I'd take a few minutes to search and ask your questions in those threads if they haven't been covered yet.

I think I already made it clear I anticipated getting a new S3. I know that they aren't fully compatible for 3/4G/LTE.
Re: Tethering. I though this was a new plan - it appears to be as much in the advert.
They block tethering on unlimited data plans but rooted tethering might work. I haven't tried it yet.
Sent from my SGH-T999
They are trying to kill teather with updates. I tried T-Mobile with still having my main line on att. Speeds were either really fast or dead slow. I'd rather just stick with att because it's decently fast wherever I go.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I just recently re-upped with T-Mobile. They have two types of plans out right now. They have what they call the classic plan and I can't remember what their new plans are called.
Anyway, with the classic plan you get the phone subsidized, but the plan itself is pretty expensive. On the other hand if you get their newer plan, you pay full price for the phone, but the plan itself is dirt cheap (cheapest I can find among the major carriers). While $600 for a phone might seem like a lot, they only require a $200 down payment and since you're starting a new contract you'll probably get $100 or so knocked off. The rest of the price of the phone is spread throughout the first 20 months of your contract.
Applying a little basic finance and assuming you have a decent stock portfolio, I estimated my cost of my Galaxy S3 at around $350 and my monthly fees went down from $230-250 to its current $140-150.
Don't know much about T-Mobile signal in your area, but if you can manage a consistent 3G I'd say it's worth the cost savings.
I would tell you that you will be very happy with t-mobile vs att, I did the switch my self and I couldn't be any happier, my data is very fast and yes it is faster than att and I get 4g 95% of the time in my area, my brother still have att with the s3 and my phone is way faster than his, on a speed test mine gets between 17000-22000 kbs consent vs his the highest he gets is about 5000-8000

AIO wireless is the best bang for the buck

So I switched to aio wireless a couple months back. Prepaid service owned by att. It is the only service out there using att signal and Lte that actually gives you what you pay for. Aiowireless.com
The plans and pricing is straightforward
$55/month for 2gb Lte speed then true unlimited throttled after.
If you need more data you can easily add either one time purchases of $10/gb extra. Or you can add it as a permanent add on. 1gb extra a month for $10 on top of the 50 dollar base.
i think the best deal though is the aio pro plan for $70 you get 7gb
I personally have a monthly order of 8gb for $80. My company pays for $60/month. So I pay $20.
The customer service and support is the easiest and the best I've ever encountered. For instance they have an app that let's you overview your whole account, usage, add or change your plan, and a chat feature that instantly connects you to an aio rep. And they are ridiculously helpful and friendly.

It's a small thing.. But when i get close to running out of high speed.. They send me a text message.. And they don't tell me how I can add more gbs or give them more money.. They suggest I use wifi. Its small.. But its like they aren't trying to get you to give them more money.
I'm an extremely happy customer. I recommend it to anyone who has att coverage. And doesn't want a contract.
Anybody out here have aio already can share their experience?

Been on Straight talk, Go Phone and now AIO Wireless. Gotta say I prefer Aio of the three.
Straight Talk: Cheapest(45$) 1.5 gb of data after that your slow as hell, Also don't count on customer support being there.
AT&T Go Phone: Most expensive ($60) Two gigs of data after that have to purchase 1gb at 10$. Good customer service. (con was most apps for at&t service don't work) Had to use texting option to check data usage, no visual voice mail, etc
Aio Wireless: (55$ a month 2gb of data after that your slowed down but have the option to speed back up for 1gb for 10$) Best customer support also visual voice mail and a account app to check data usage.

Is that a typo?
Well it really depends on the user straight talk is offering lte and throttles data after 2.5 gigs and it's 45 dollars and tax comes to 48 but you don't have the option to add more gigs like aio wireless and there are plenty of apps in the play store to monitor data usage or just go to setting and set the limit yourself it really comes done to the person and how much there willing to spend. So to say one better than the other is basically opinion and not really fact.

I recently moved from Verizon Wireless to AIO for my Nexus 5. The speeds I get is ~4mb down ~2mb up in the area I am located in. With the 3 days I've been with them, I am so far pleased. Great coverage so speeds aren't really bugging me that much.
The only thing I have found annoying is I have to manually enter my own APN settings to get data to work. I've attempted to create my own update.zip along with other user's zip's and has not work. (Chronic rom flasher).

Anyone use this phone with TracFone?

Has anyone activated and used the Samsung Epic 4G on TracFone.
I was considering buying one of these, and activating it with TracFone, basically just to use for light mobile voice and data usage, and mostly for WiFi browsing.
TracFone claims you can activate a CDMA phone with them, but researching their site is extremely vague, and I was hoping a TracFone user could shed some light.
I was wondering how much it would cost to activate the phone, if you can use it with a third party ROM, and if you can buy a double the minutes card and use it with this phone.
Thanks for any info.

Sounds good. Unfortunately FreedomPop is not available in NJ. I'm curious how FreedomPop delivers its access. TracFone simply buys huge amounts of time from ATT and Verizon, then resells it. FreedomPop sounds like a fantastic deal. Best you can get with TracFone is $7 a month, 60 minutes talk/60 texts/60mb data, and thats only possible if you bought a Triple the Minutes phone.
In my area, you can get either TracFone GSM phone (ATT Network which SUCKS), or TracFone CDMA phone (which is Verizon and is rock solid).
Does FreedomPop operate their own towers or do they simply buy time and resell it?

I haven't heard of anybody using introduction with TracFone, but FreedomPop, Virgin Mobile, Boost, Page Plus, and Straight Talk ate confirmed working. I'm on FreedomPop, $12.50 a month for 1GB of data and unlimited talk and text.

They use Sprint, if Sprint exists in NJ you're good, they said it wasn't available in my state. But it was $2.50 to try the first month, coverage is exactly the same as with Sprint. Calls and messages are done through a FreedomPop app.
