Double Tap 2 Wake - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It seems z1 and z has progress and working d2w on them. Any news to double tap to wake for our z1 compact?

I never saw that.. so what is d2w? Double tap on screen to wake up phone from standby?

Exactly. Doomkernel v20 had it afair but it caused too much battery drain. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.maicas.android.wsleep emulates it somehow via the proximity sensor.

Won't work on Xperia Z1 Compact. I tried making one before doomlord even made it for Z1 but it won't work. Our digitizer doesn't support touch gestures while screen off. Perhaps our digitizer was made from a suppose to be mid range phone due to it's compact size hence it doesn't have that much feature.

This is for Z1.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2660679 I thought Z1 and us had same specs

yup, our touch panel doesn't work for it. Use some proximity sensor apps instead but yes they could battery draining and not working real well.

The best alternative way is to modify android.policy.jar to let hardware camera key(plz disable the camera launch and shoot in stock camera first) and vol +/- to wake up screen. I have been used it since Xperia S 4.0.4/4.1.2 but not sure if it still works now on our phone with KitKat. You guys can try it and report, I may try it later when I have time.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.njsoftware.volumechanger&hl=zh_TW
To change vol up and down please use Volume in Notification app instead, don't always press the vol key.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=zh_TW
If you just want to lock the screen, use Screen Off and Lock app and set it to display in notification bar. Don't always press the power button to lock screen.
I've been used both Volume in Notification and Screen Off and Lock over a year on other android phone(I'm using them now on z1c) and they work very well for their job. Both power and volume button can be easy to defective just don't press them all days(but the power & volume key are very very hard on z1c, I beat they are hard to broken).

Isn't it just a matter of telling the driver to keep the touchscreen powered on while the screen is off?

Use gravity
Gravity works great for me.

Not all though... There are a number of difference between Z1 and Z1 Compact.
1. Battery
2. Display
3. Back Panel
And as for digitizer
Z1 Compact has pressure sensitive digitizer while Z1 doesn't.
Z1 has stylus support while Z1 Compact doesn't.
Z1 Compact has glove mode support while Z1 doesn't.
Z1 has screen off gestures while Z1 Compact doesn't.
They both have the same manufacturer of digitizer but different types though. I guess there wasn't any 4.3 inch new technology digitizer available for that said manufacturer.

Bummer... just get used to with my old N4.
Hopefully the quality of the power button is better than the N4.

Same with you... Also got used to my HTC One. But yeah I guess we have to live with it... Anyways the power button seems great still good as new to me even if it's overused.

Xperia S vs Ion - some observations from daily use

I've been bouncing to / from my XPS and Ion. I've made the following observations:
- XPS has a longer battery life, at 8 hours of good usage I'm at ~ 65%, after 4 hours on the Ion I'm at 50%
- LightFlow App works great on the XPS with the bright LED, doesn't even work on my Ion .. can't see the freaking LED!
- Volume / call quality is better on the XPS, sounds much lower on the Ion
- On my XPS, When I hang up, the screen doesn't always wake, I need to press the power button to hang up the phone call! This doesn't happen on my Ion.
- 4G on Ion is great (25Meg down), but here in Texas I find myself bouncing to HSPA all the time.
So, I can't definitively chose a daily phone .. each have their strong points.
Any comments from you all that use both on a regular basis ?
Ion has a much better screen to me. When I go from the XS to my ion I am amazed at how much better it looks. I agree on the battery life. My XS with ICS seems to last forever compared to the ion.
Sound quality while on the phone isn't that much of a difference to me. Speaker phone is a different story. The XS is much better as a speaker phone.

Thanks Spectre51 - Have you experienced similar issues with hanging up a call on the XS ? Many times when I pull the phone away from my ear the proximity sensor doesn't turn the screen back on so to press the disconnect button, I'm left wondering if the other person dropped the line yet. On the Ion, the screen immediately turns on during the same scenario.

I found audio much cleaner through a headset on both - not much to set them apart for playing music.
I agree with spectre51 - for multimedia/screen time much prefer the ION
For convenience and casual use (eg phone and camera shots), I think the XPS has the edge, and fits into my pocket better.
So which phone your opinions is better? I am so much on the fence I can't make up my mind.

Questions about NFC on the Xperia ion..

I just got my ion earlier this week. I went to test out NFC via a NFC tag that I have next to my bed, and the phone doesn't recognize it. The NFC is turned on as well as the Android Beam.
I then bumped my ion against my friend's GNexus and again, it didn't recognize the other phone. I had NFC and Android beam turned on on both devices. Neither phone vibrated or anything to mean that NFC was working.
I thought that any android phone that has NFC/Android Beam can share items between one another. Is this not the case with the Xperia ion?
Have anyone else had a similar problem?
It does work on the ion you just have to get the phone in the right spot. For instance on my Xperia S the NFC sensor is down towards the bottom and the ion's appears yo be just below or around the rear speaker grill.

I bumped my ion with my wife's galaxy s 2 and it worked. However unlike most android phones that has nfc, the ion doesn't work with Samsung Tec Tiles ( NFC Tags).
Nevertheless, by the phone working properly, have saved me a trip to bestbuy to exchange it

[Q]]PRO] Keyboard not working properly

Hey guys, i got this problem with my xperia pro. After some searching, i found this guy who has exactly the same problem like me.
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/33601
Hello everyone!
I hope you could help me so I'll get straight to the problem:
I was just at a gym and my phone droped from chair to the ground (no more then 20cm = ~8 inches) and after that (I guess) my keyboard is not working properly. I mean... come on! 20cm?!!
To be exact... everything else is working, there is even no spot of fall on it. Touchscreen and side buttons for volume and power are ok, as well as meny button, but 6 buttons on keyboard are mixed as well as back and home button.
When i press "a" it adds "space". I get same effect if i click space. That way "a" is mixed with "space", "d" with "enter", "." with " ' " and "back" with "home" button.
Any advice? Could it be that flat of keyboard has moved a little or something? Im not even sure it is from the fall, just guessed...
Dont know what to do... I still have 20 months more of guarantie so should i take it to official repare then or try to disasseble it myself to check it?
Tnx in advance

Well, i'm used to disassembly iphone 3GS and 4, so i could open my Xperia Pro alone, my problem is that i don't want to risk something when the problem isn't the flex cable. Has anyone of you experienced the same problem and helped it to fix the flex-cable?
I think my garanty is void, because i opened my bootloader and put another rom on it
Please help, i hate it to write on the ondisplay-keybord when there is the chance to use the hardware-keyboard. ):
Are the pro a slide keyboard phone?
Sent from my Xperia Arc S using xda premium
Yeah the Pro is a Slider Phone with a hardware keyboard!
Yesss, its the flex.
If you slide it slowly in a silent place you can probably hear a scraching sound.
I had the W715 before my arc and the keys stopped working one after one. Bought a flex cable from ebay and repaired it myself.
All you need is dissambly guide, proper screwdrivers, patience.
Good luck

Reshelled Acro S and display not working?

Hi, after I reshelled the Acro S, the display wasn't working but the LEDs were? I did use professional tools with the phone off.
Thanks.

Seems to me some connection is loose. You might want to take it apart again. Check all connections and make sure you didn't break any ribbon cables.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, no LCD display

Hi, I have an Xperia Z1 Compact, I dropped it, smashed the screen and ordered a replacement screen, fitted it and I can hear it booting up and all the associated sounds so I know it's on but there's no display, I thought it was a faulty screen so sent it back ad received another one but it's still the same, I know it works as I've tested it on another Cmpact and it's fine so clearly a problem with the hardware of the phone, does anyone have any ideas what it might be?
Thanks

Hello @seaspray99,
Are you 100% sure that you've connected it properly and that you've not damaged the flex cable or the contacts on the mainboard?
Keelah se'lai,
GethPrime
Definitely connected ok tried even holding it down while connected.

Hello @seaspray99,
Did you replace just the glas or the entire display assembly?
The entire display, but it stopped working after it was dropped, I thought the LCD had been damaged but it's definitely not that.

Could be anything if the screen works when tested, might have damaged the board in the fall.
i have the same problem, Old LCD was partially broken, replaced it, not working with new one. Used a new flatcable, still not working, No Led or Startup screen. Only vibrates 1 or 3 times with power button
