My wife got a new phone 3 weeks ago (Samsung S5) and in the process was given a "free" Samsung Tab3. Last week the tablet fell of a table and the screen cracked so I decided to play Mr.Wizard and replace the screen. Got the replacement screen, saw the video online and all went pretty smooth. Turn the tablet on and all is still well. Then am trying to set up her e-mail and notice that the 1 on the keyboard does not work. I downloaded an app called Simple Touch Screen Tester and come to find out that the part of the screen where the 1 would be (in portrait mode) is not responding to any touches. If I press down hard on the screen some areas do respond but not all.
Is it possible I got a defective screen? Would spending another $ 20 be worth it?
Or should I return the tablet to Sprint (I assume it is still under the 30 day warranty) and not mention the fact the screen cracked and I replaced it? Can Sprint tell I replaced the screen?
Thanks for any help.

Since you already replaced the dig, you know what's involved. If you're good at what you do, then Sprint can't tell. I've had a Samsung tab with a dead band within which no touch would register. Sent it to Samsung and all they did was update the firmware. But it can be hardware-related. If you bought a replacement lined with tape, it's possible the back of the digitizer didn't stick evenly to the frame 'cause you did not clean all the glue residue before. That certainly can cause problems. Then you may want to check the connection to the motherboard. It should click when you snap it on correctly. The way Samsung digitizer are built, it doesn't feel like yours is defective. I've had one that literally was smashed to pieces yet persisted.

I've had my s3 since store release date and been cracked since 2 days later, just getting progressively worse, meaning cracking more. The phone still works but got littl pieces of glass falling out now.IS anyone having an issue with a faulty screen? I don't have any clue what happened to it in the first place that it cracked, that is why I ask this!
Secondly,
3 hours away from best buy where I was talked into getting their protection plan. Little did i know that they wouldn't ship ANYTHING!
What do you suggest I do. Anyone had any long distance dealings with the geeksquad?
Thanks
Woody
hmmm.
the screens crack easy because of the curved glass.
mine was cracked but i had it replaced already.
did it through sprint.
funny theres a video in another thread showing a guy attaching a brand new s3 to a string along with an iphone 4s and dragging both behind a car at 30 mph... after wards the s3 screen is fine but the phone is toast...
yes, indeed, so you should wear it a case, and the screen should avoid hit the hard things, it is also easy to be scrached and damaged.
Ill start from the begining, I bought my phone about a month ago brand new from T-Mobile. The next day as I was getting into my car the phone slid out of my pocket and into the hole in the seat in between it and the center console, when I retrieved it there was a fine crack going across the screen. The LCD was not cracked and the phone functioned perfectly.
The next day after this while the phone was in my pocket the screen cracked again. Again the LCD was working fine. About a week later I sent the phone in for repairs (just a random guy nothing official as T-Mobile, Samsung and Asurion said I was SOL).
After about a week turn around I received the phone back, working perfectly and the screen fixed. About a day or two later the screen started freaking out (picking things I didnt touch and flying through the home screens on its own). Then all of a sudden the lower portion of the screen (just a little bit bigger than the lower app row) just stopped responding to touch all together.
I just now removed the screen myself thinking that be botched putting the screen back on. The LCD is in perfect condition. No burn marks, cracks, discolored pixels, anything. I then removed the case checking all the connection on the motherboard and everything seems secure.
I dont know what else to do maybe someone here can give me some suggestions or ideas. If all else fails I will file a claim and get a new one through asurion. Im just trying all my options before I burn more $$$ on this phone.
Thank you ahead of time for any help.

Sounds like a defective digitizer. Have you talked to the guy who did the replacement?

Call once more leave your name number and issue. If you dont hear back within 3-4 business days, call from a different number and plan constructively how to broach the issue. call recording might be an idea.

Curious, why would Asurion say you are sol, isnt that what they are for? Isnt it accident insurance?
Hello!
Today dropped my phone and screen got covered in spider web. The display itself looks fine, but its covered it spiderweb. The touchscreen doesnt respond at all.
What do i need to do now? I looked at local repair shops, they ask atleast 100 euros. But on ebay i can find lcd display+screen digitizer for 55 euros shipped, or screen digitizer starting from 10 dollars!
Can i buy only screen digitizer (as i understand that top layer of glass thats cracked is screen digitizer?) and replace it? Or changing LCD display along with screen digitizer is a must?

So this should fit..right? And are all 3 models LS970, E975 and e973 really same size? Cuz i`ve read people have got smaller screens than original from some sellers on amazon.
Replacing a digitizer is pretty hard and time consuming, that's why people usually replace the whole lcd+digitizer+glass assembly. You will also need adhesive and a heater/appropriate tools. It can be a great learning experience if you don't mind potentially busting your phone. There are no shortage of instructionnal videos on youtube on the subject.
Also, a new G2 is only 190$US .... Just saying ...

As i have two other phones. The g2 mini with Tegra and a razrHD. I'll give a try, thanks for the tip.
Well, i ended up ordering that LCD+Digitzer from ebay. Everything was fine for 2 months, now i have quite large spot that doesnt respond to touches. (See attachment) i already tried disconecting the lcd and digitizer..still same. Is it worth trying to flash another rom? I already flashed stock kdz (had stock before too..)
This happened just today, right after ghost touches went crazy and rondomly oppening everything.
EDIT: That spot is changing sizes..form remains, but it got a bit smaller now. Its truly weird. I put the phone outside for few minutes (its +9C outside) and touchscreen works fine now! What is going on?
EDIT 2: After few minutes of usage, the spot is coming back

I had dropped my LG (more than a couple of times) on its face and it seemed to suffer stroke-like symptoms: one side of the screen was completely dead to touch, and the rest of the screen would occasionally act as though I was touching everywhere which opened programs and messed with the keyboard. I was stubborn and just lived with it and over time, it stopped trying open programs and whatnot. Recently, dropped it again, this time it was a bit more serious. Still no visible damage to the screen, but the "dead spot" moved to the centre of the screen, and again, occasionally tries to open programs and add words to my messages.
At first I thought it all could be related to a software issue. Unfortunately, after installing new ROMS, it never fixed the problem. I bought a digitaliser screen from Ebay as well. I'm waiting on the adhesive tape still so I can't say if this will fix anything. I kind of have a suspicion that its a loose connector (the top middle part of the screen gets super hot only after a couple of minutes of being left on).
I'm just wondering if you have tried taking it apart again to recheck the wiring? I think we may have similar problems (your situation is the first I've come by on the internet that is anywhere close to what's happening to my screen). Thanks so much!
Since yesterday, iv'e noticed theres a line from one side of the phone to the other side isnt working when you touch it. Iv'e tried factory reset and everything and it's still there so what could be the problem and how can i fix it?
its a hardware fail, so anything related to software dont solve your problem...if you are in guarantee time, you can send it to repair center.
I had same problem with my Nexus 4 last month(its why I bought G3). A line about 1cm wide, horizontally where touch didn't work. You can check you screen with YetAnotherTouchScreenTest app from Google Play store(it's free). When I give back Nexus to LG service, they told me it was water interference. I disassembled it myself and check all tapes connections, It was really messy. Keep that in mind if you bought your phone from second hand. If not, there is a chance for digitizer replacement.

Yeah i got mine brand new, i think i started noticing it when i dropped my phone
i tried that app and yeah theres pretty much a 1cm wide line that goes across the phone around the middle of it
It can be either broken motherboard which will make cost of repair disproportionate to the value of the whole phone or just broken digitizer it will cost about 20€-30€ (at least in Poland). You can also try to send it back to LG service not mentioning that you droped your phone. But i believe they will be able to tell if it was phisical damage or not. I wish you my best since I was in same position as you some time ago.

Thanks, I think im just going to replace the whole digitizer and screen, going to cost $109 from where i am and thats of ebay and do it yourself hahah because my warranty expires in a few days and it's unable to arrive at the place i got it from in time -.-
I had my note 4 screen assembly replaced after I dropped it. However, the screen is no longer completely secured in the phone. The screen pushes into the frame if I place pressure on the screen and I can get my finger under the edge of the assembly on the top left corner. The home button is also loose, but gets tight like it should be if I hold the screen down. This is an annoying issue and I've recently noticed that dust is getting inside the phone, which I'm worried will cause hardware damage. The front camera is already blurry and cloudy from dust getting inside. If I take the screen off and apply new adhesive, will the screen sit in the frame like it should or is it impossible to restore the feel on a phone with a screen replacement to what it was like from the factory? I hope you hear from you guys, and thanks in advance.
I would take it to a local Sprint service and repair location (or where ever you got your screen replacement). They should be able to reseat your screen in the housing and clean your camera right up. In terms of applying new adhesive, you shouldn't really need to. The 15 some odd screws on the back should take care of it. Source: I'm a S&R Technician
Thanks for the help! My problem is that I'm hesitant to return to the shop where I got the screen replaced, because when they originally replaced it I was unsatisfied with how it fit so I went back and had them do some more work. It was alright at first, but it began to get steadily worse in a fairly short amount of time. So I'm a little cautious of going back there to ask them to do more work. If I asked them to reseat the screen assembly, do you think it would help? Also, is it possible to return to an almost-factory feel with a replaced screen or do I need to accept that the assembly will never be quite as tight as it originally was?
Similar issue
I had a similar issue and I took it back to sprint which they fixed regardless of my device being rooted.
Did you have the screen replaced before you took it to sprint, or was the screen loose from the factory?
you can find the replace guide at ifixit, I don't leave the link, you can google it.
If you want to buy original LCD screen ,you can go to the HCQS.
