Got the G3 today yet I cannot activate it yet until Monday because I've ordered it on another line, to which's phone I don't have access to until then to activate/deactivate and then cut my sim down (from Bionic) and reactivate (to keep UDP)...
I haven't dared to turn the phone on yet but is it possible to skip the activation process and use it on Wifi until ready?
Nevermind, figured it out. Just left the SIM out and no prob

I just bought a used Droid Incredible. It has been fully reset to factory configuration, and when I turn it on, I get an English/Spanish selection and then the Verizon activation screen.
I don't have a Verizon account and do not want to get one - I just want to use the device as a PDA and to experiment with different ROMS.
How can I get past the Verizon activation screen? I can put files on the SD card without the phone - I have used this method to flash HTC Kaiser ROMS in the past, but from what I read on the forums, I need to be able to activate the USB Diagnostics menu before I can do anything at all!
Help! Please!

Don't know a workaround without activation. There may be one. I do have a suggestion, though.
Activate your phone through PagePlusCelluar.com
It will cost you $10, but then you will be able to move forward. No contracts or anything silly like that are required. You can just pay your $10, with which you will be given a phone number, and then activate it. Then you may forget all about PagePlus if you wish. OR, you can be like me and use them as your carrier
Pm me if you want to know more. And no, I am not a reseller
Hey all,
Having trouble activating the phone (Toro GNex). When the activate screen comes up I don't have a keyboard and with no menu key, can't find a way to enable it. Any help? I'm on Liquid Smooth currently, but can go back to stock if needed, just a pain. I ran into this on my DInc, but with the hard menu key could just force the keyboard on.
I tried forcing the menu key in the Liquid options with no luck either.
Thanks!
you dont need to activate it in the traditional verizon sense by dialing *228.
you do however, need to make sure your sim card is active.

Good call, thank you. I'm ASSuming that's done over the Verizon website? I had the phone activated at the store near a year ago and have since activated my DInc in its place due to hardware issues. Was looking to put the GNex back on to replace the DInc.

it can be done over the phone, store and im pretty sure website.
I have been reading some really scary things regarding Sim Cards and viruses or malware or whatever and am wondering if I should change my sim card. A part of me thinks that the idea of a Sim card being infected is silly, but at the same time, I really would not know, lol.
If I were to upgrade my sim card...
Would it put my unlimited data at risk? (Verizon)
How would I go about changing my Sim? Could I use the sim that came with my note 4?
Also, should anyone even worry about their sim cards? o .0
SIM cards are free at corporate stores and you will not lose your unlimited.
Just take your phone in and ask for a new SIM. If they ask why tell them you've been getting errors or something. It takes like 5 minutes if there's no wait.
I don't think you can do a SIM swap online but you probably can by calling customer service from a different phone
Edit: If you call CS for a SIM swap make sure you have your other SIM on hand for the ICCID
Ah.. I see!
I actually tried to do a sim swap at home because google made it seem simple; however, it never worked to my knowledge. At first, I popped in the sim and it said that it was setting up, but never finished. While my phone was trying to activate with the new sim card, I went to the verizon wireless website and tried to activate my phone there, but could not find my phone listed in the section with previously activated phones. I did not try the option to activate a phone that wasn't registered already and just backed out. I did not - to my knowledge - see any screen indicating plan changes so I'm assuming that I did not do anything that could compromise my plan(?). When I dialed the number for activating sim cards, it went to the visual *611 screen and claimed that it did not recognize my number and asked me to log in to my verizon account. After doing so, nothing seemed to happen and it just sent me back to my home screen.
In hindsight, I probably should have stopped after it asked me to log in to my verizon account, but I suppose now all I can do is wait and ask questions to ease my anxiety x_x

You have to call that number from a different phone. Your phone doesn't hold your phone number so just popping a new SIM won't do anything.
You could try to do the "activate device" thing online but I don't know if there's an option to use a different SIM.

Cool! Now I know
Thanks for your incredible fast help!
Title says it all. The long version, if you want to hear a story is as follows:
Received my phone and did not put my SIM in right away. Installed Play store and got the phone set up how I wanted it. Then when I put my SIM in, no service. So I tried a factory reset and still no service. I assumed it had a bad SIM slot so I contacted Amazon for a replacement.
Replacement comes and this time, I put my SIM in. Service, so I start again with installing the Play store and getting the phone set up how I want it. Somewhere along the line, I lost service. I do a factory reset and still no luck. It says to insert a valid SIM or SIM error.
I really would like to give this phone a try, but I have used Google Voice for my phone number and do not want to change that now.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hmm. Are you sure? When it happened before, I tried to make a phone call and it did not let me.
Just to be clear, I am not concerned about getting through the activation process, I am concerned about not having a mobile network signal to make calls on. I plan on using it as a phone and not just a 5 inch tablet.
I would try and restore the firmware hard reset.
Hello!
I bought a refurbished Tab S from Amazon. Got it this past weekend, logged in and set it up and it runs great over Wi-Fi. However, I'm getting an error while it's trying to activate the tablet and it fails every time I ask it to check for an update to the OS (it's on 4.X right now).
I found a post saying you do down volume once, up twice, etc... but that doesn't seem to do it. Unless I'm doing it wrong? I unlock the tablet, am at the home screen and then try it.
Thank you!
it will not update if it's not on the verizon network and it probably won't activate without a sim in it.
if it's working, don' worry bout it.
Have you tried kies/smart switch?
If someone here can catch the ota and upload it you could flash it with odin.
