Hi, guys, it's currently 1:36AM and I am ripping my hair out and I'm on the brink of crying because I think my HTC One M8 is bricked.
I successfully rooted my device a few hours ago and I managed to flash a GPE Rom. A notification told me to update to 4.4.3 and because of my stupidity I clicked install and it brought me to the Team Win Recovery Project v2.7.0.2 again (the page with the install, wipe, backup, restore, mount button etc). I panicked and tried the same procedure to flash my rom by wiping everything but the problem was... the GPE zip file was not there. I don't even know if I made a backup of the original sense os.
I don't have anything. I don't have the custom ROM, I don't have my sense ROM and I feel hopeless. I'm sorry for getting so emotional but I feel so confined and trapped and I seriously don't know what to do, tears are actually drenching my face.
Please, if anybody could help, I would be so so so thankful... I'm a novice and I barely know anything so really specific steps would be appreciated.
Thank you so much for reading and thank you again for helping in advance.
http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.com/2013/12/ow-to-use-adb-sideload.html
On the website it says to make sure device is in USB Debugging mode? I can't access that because my device has absolutely no os on it. My phone is not recognized by my computer as well when I plug it in unless adb makes a difference?

Power the phone off, turn on with power+vol down, use volume keys and power button to navigate in hboot. Go to recovery. There you can use sideload to put any ROM onto the device.

Thank you very much! Just a few more questions but the person in the video says to flash TWRP in the command lines but what if I already have TWRP? Can I just skip that step? And I have something called **TAMPERED** on top of my boot loader, is that dangerous?

Alright. If you are able to flash the ROM and it boots up make sure to make a backup just in case something like this happens again
After you check off wipe cache and wipe Dalvik cache and slide to start sideload, can you start flashing ROMS during that process? Or do you have to wait until the wiping finishes?

Wait until the wiping finishes then adb sideload
Also If you have an external sd card, you can simply put a rom on that using an sd card reader and your PC. and flash the rom from your external SD :good:
Thank you! I'm sorry for so many questions but when you open the cmd.exe, can you open it anywhere or does it have to be in the actual platform-tools file?

Via recovery of course.
This has helped me many times.
---------- Post added at 10:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:19 AM ----------
1, if you can boot into recovery, great
2, if you have an external sd with card reader for PC, great
3, power phone off and take out sd, and using card reader, put rom on external sd
4, re-insert sd card into phone and reboot into recovery using power and volume down and in hboot screen go to recovery.
5, to make sure, do a full wipe of system, data anc cache/dalvik cache
6, flash desired rom and reboot
7, should have worked and saves time not messing around with adb sideloading
Thank you Exo! I shall do this right away! Although a SD card is needed first.
And regarding the wiping and sideloading, wtfsykhang, isn't the operation together? If you go into advanced, you have to option to clear cache and clear Dalvik cache and you start that by sliding the sideloading slider.

I have just rooted my Google Nexus and it went very well. I have installed the phone encryption which also went well... I installed an application that I bought on Google Play called phone locator Pro and it crashed when i opened it, so i submitted a bug report and decided to reboot phone, when the phone boots back up and I unlock it with my pin the msg phonelocator has crashed appears and it takes presidence of the screen and I cant select the OK button to get rid of it - so I cant use my phone at all!
I cant even restore my backup because the phone cant read the virtual sd card in clockwork recovery because its encrypted! How can I get around this, Im freaking out and my heart is beating at 200 bpm!
Thanks!!!!!!!!
Have you tried pulling the battery yet.

yep, when I pull the battery the phone reboots and the same msg appears.
I think worst case that you might have to flash the phone again and you might lose your data. But with everything backed up to Gmail as far as contacts and things, you can recover. At least it isn't hard bricked.
I know that doesn't sound too reassuring but all is not lost! I would suggest when you get it back and running that you make sure everything works and do a reboot before encrypting it.
I assume you already have the toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400871
See if you can get into CWM from the toolbox.

I cant flash it though, because the phone is encrypted and in recovery it wont mount the volumes. I have a backup I can restore from if this worked for me....
Yup, I have the toolkit, used that to root my phone, but it will want to reboot the phone, I wonder if I can remove the APK somehow without being in recovery?
As one of the users pointed out, you have to reflash a custom rom again, you will obviously loose your contacts but it better than loosing your nexus.
1.get a custom rom, not stock because it will erase cwm.
2.transfer it to the SD card
3.boot into cwm using boot combination.
4. Wipe data/factory reset and cache.
5.choose *choose zip from SD card.*
6.reflash your rom then your gapps package if u have one.
If this doesn't help you will have to try fast boot method
Eligible XDA Developer GRAVITY 360
Most likely fastboot is the right method for you, I can't explain much as I'm mainly a cwm user

The phone has encryption...... It wont mount the partition where the ROM is and I cant do a factory reset because it fails when it tries to delete the data partition because its encrypted and the android secure partition.

Thanks, would this be the same as selection option 8 on the nexus toolkit?
"extract and flash google factory ROM?" or would this method you linked above allow me to do it without worrying about phone ecryption?

Will this need to boot into fastboot, if it will it wont work, since the partition that the ROM is on wont be visible, this gets decrypted later into the boot of the phone.
Just hold down vol. Up and down and power at the same time.
Type fastboot devices into terminal on your computer and see if it shows.
The partition should be visible, just not the data on it.
And it should only be the data partition that is encrypted anyway.
nodstuff, it worked!!!!!

I don't have one and anyway its not about money so enjoy your phone and remember that it is really hard to brick a nexus so don't give yourself a heart attack next time something happens, it can always be fixed.
Read about adb and fastboot, so valuable.

Thanks for the all the info..
I did similar with my HTC Desire and learnt fast! Appreciate the advice too - I got the phone just yesterday
I am now just reapplying the custom ROM I use and NEVER using encryption again.
I'm a beginner, i recently asked how to install the ics leak, apparently it's seem easy, one click but i was advise to root and install cwm...
so what exactly is CWM?
can anyone give me the following guides? with the most dumbed down instruction? (like button to press, where to activate things etc.)
How to root lg android?
brief explanation of what is cwm
how to install custom rom?
- while you explain, can you explain the concept of the phone? like recovery mode does this, debugging does that.
I used to be a iphone pro, but android, i'm a noob xD .
To root, download superoneclick v2.3.2 on your computer. NOT 2.3.3 as it doesn't work. Launch it and click root. If it doesn't work the first time, keep trying. It'll work eventually. Clockwork mod is a recovery mode. In your android You download rom manager in the play store, then click on it. Click flash clockwork mod recovery inside the app. It'll give u a list of devices. Select att nitro HD. Then download ho!no!s cwm flash able leak, (its in the android development section. Download that and go back to rom manager. REMEMBER YOU DO ALL THIS IN YOUR ANDROID XCEPT FOR ROOTING WITH SUPERONECLICK. Click reboot into recovery. Click on backup and restore. Click backup in that. Wait till its done. Then go back to the main menu in cwm. Click wipe data/factory reset. Then click yes. Then when its done go and click advanced. Click wipe dalvik cache. Click yes. Then press the back button. Then go to install zip from sdcard. Click choose zip from sdcard. Then click Download.locate the zip you downloaded earlier, it should be in there. Click yes. When its done, go back to the main menu and click reboot system now. Voila, you're done. Phew this took a while.

3. Download Ho!no!s cwm, umh link please? xD and do i download it straight on the phone? or do I put dl it on pc, n put it on phone, if so, what is the directory i should put it in.

Make sure you know where your .zip file is downloaded. You'll need to know where to find it while you're in CWM looking to "install .zip from SD card".
I'm still a noob as well. I've only flashed one rom so far, but I hope I've steered you in the right direction. My suggestions are what worked for me with my rom so you should be fine. If anyone sees errors in my advice please post so that we will all know.

Well I don't know if it's called "flashing" for CWM. It's more installing CWM with the ROM Manager app. Then once you've backed up your stock setup you can "flash" whichever rom zip you want to use.
I'm using CM9 RC1 because it had reviews of it being stable with everything working. I'm so new to this that I am hesitant to try all of the other roms that have bugs. I'll try one eventually though.
Hopefully you get a custom rom running today. :good:

Yes, follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671050
You only have to do this once for each computer you want to use USB mass storage on. It still sucks if you want to use it for USB mass storage on other computers, but if you only use it on one or two computers it's fine.
RIght now I am having a issue with wiping. I do a full wipe and then use a super wipe and I try to install a new rom and I get the screen after I boot up and the old boot animation comes up from the old rom it get the android is upgrading screen it finishes and i get to the home screen without signing into my google account and then my phone reboots after a while and it gets stuck at the main boot animation. I am able to get to the bootloader and recovery. I repeat doing a full factory reset and everything I just described happens again. I can't seem to get a full wipe to work properly. Anyone have any sort of idea what might be going on?
What happens if you completely re-flash the stock images and start over? That's always a good policy if you can't get a ROM to boot.

So when it attempted to load the rom it when to the boot up screen and just sat there, So i figure I would do one of the clock work mods recoverys that I had on my sd card and it failed to load. So at one point Philz asked me if i wanted to wipe the current rom and replace it with a new one. So i said yes figring that I could load the stock rom and it said that loaded. So last night I stayed up and tried to load 3 different roms and they all failed to load. Im wondering an this point if there is anything that can be loaded. I do remeber at one point it came up with a screen that said oden mode and said voided warrenty. i dont have a warrenty so i disregarded that. I will try the rom that you have suggesst tonight, I really hope that I can get some type of ROM on there. Beacase right now it just goes to the galaxy note 2 screen and sticks there.
Is there a manual key sequence or command line that can be run for my skipsoft tool kit that i used to root it to automatically turn on the us debugging? Also remember seeing a message that states that the root was removed. I think in in a hot pile of dog poop and this point, Any other suggestion if that rom doesnt load???
Thanks

That rom is already rooted just wipe everything but the external sd or sd1 but wipe the sd that is internal dont wipe the modem either and it should boot no problem as long as you wiped everything

How do you check to see if the modem is wipped?? i know it cleared off both the sd and sd1
If you did just the rom might have it in there if not just download and flash it its just like flashing a rom and its ok if you wiped both just download the rom put it on your sd1 and flash it in recovery I use philz

Ok so drop the ROM on the SD card, obviously plug it in go to recovery mode via the volume up/home/power key then selected it SD card and it sould load automatically. This is going to sound stupid but the ROM has to be zipped on the SD and not unzipped correct? If I get a error meaage I will post it here. I will probley be doing this around 5 pm or 6 as I am at work at the moment.
Sorry to be such a newbie..lol rooting it was easy if and when I get back into it I will put the full name of the ROM that blew it up because I dont want to have anyone else to go through this.

Download the rom
Wipe everything but the sd1 and the modem
Flash the rom
And let it boot
And let me know what happens
did all that and it is just sitting on the Samsung galaxy note screen
so for this one http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_A...6-t0lteatt.zip it loaded it and then got suck on the main galaxy note 2 screen.
For http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_A...lteatt.zip.md5 it failed. Re Ran ]http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_A...6-t0lteatt.zip and worked but before I rebooted it it states at the top that the root is missing or broke. rebooted and still the same stuck on the samsung screen
Ok im goig to go with im screwed on this one as Ive been all over this form looking looking at how to fix this phone. the only thing I can get into is the philz and do a data reset/ wipe the dalvik cache and load the philz touch recovery then when I try to install any zips beyond that it fails so at this point I have no idea where I am going and if I am doing it properly. when trying to install the ODEN-UCUCNE 5 stock-no recovey zip it finds it, opens it and then fails.
so im pretty lost at this point either im not doing it right or the phone is bricked.. any other suggestion? I looks like im going to be buying a new phone

No do everything on the phone don't use Odin so in the recovery go to mounts and storage and
wipe the system, data, preload, cashe, boot, and sd card but not the sd1 (external sd) and reboot the recovery in power options and hit reboot recovery and hit no when it says something about supersu root process then when it reboots just hit install zip and find the rom you downloaded

ok so
1)factory data reset
2)wipe cache partition
3) go to advanced and wipe the dalvik cache
4) then I went to the sd card and installed the zip you gave me, it says install from the sd completed press any key to continue
5) when to power options and hit reboot to recovery
then it asks me if I want to restore the recovery settings from the card or no - I said yes
then it asks me if I want to apply the root from /system/xbix/su- I said no
it rebooted back to philz touch
now what??? I assume install rom zip..
what is the correct ROM download that I should use... ive downloaded so many if you can point me to the right link that would be steller
For those who are familiar with the process of getting the CM13 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/alpha-cyanogenmod-13-0-unofficial-t3465667) booting on verizon/sprint I ran into some trouble. So in trying to install I first superCID to 22222222 which worked fine, I then flashed the file that @holofractal provided from my external_SD (thank you for providing) in download mode, phone then rebooted and went through everything and turned my phone off. Upon manually going into recovery from my phone being off MY SD CARD WAS WIPED! I have 0 clue what went on, my backup on my external SD did not work either so I attempted to install CM after this all went down (did not work). So I usb-otg-ed leedroid and that booted up fine. Anybody know what is up?

Are you sure you data was actually wiped? I went through something similar on my Verizon 10, installed the U.S Unlocked firmware from the same thread as you, and when I rebooted I had no ROM and couldn't see my internal SD card in TWRP anymore . Restoring old fw didn't work either. Flashing the no-wipe RUU from dottat's thread did work though, and I was able to re-access all my data without any loss.
For what it's worth, it was mentioned in the CM thread that after changing CID and flashing a new fw, you have to format your SD card anyway for a ROM to work.

I forgot to mention that your internal sd would be wiped. Also, k thought a backup would work, but apparently not, I too learned that the hard way.
Just set up everything again. I know it's a pain. Use titanium backup for apps next time. That's what I do.

So am I good to go now with everything? Still unsure why CM13 failed to flash. Maybe because the file was on a USB OTG?

Yes, I don't think it'll work off that. Are you using multirom?
It shouldn't fail. Try flashing it from the external sd card.

Okay, so if my SD card was wiped than it is formatted? (wipe = format, right?). Also what is dottat's no-wipe RUU? I am going to try to install CM now so will you guys know if it works.

Here's what I would do. If you have already done any of the steps I list just skip them.
1. Back up important data if you wish.
2. Install firmware package. I am a sprint user, I used 1.95.403.1 international firmware. I removed the radio.img and edited the android-info.txt file to match my MID.
3. In TWRP, go to wipe, and format data, type yes and click enter.
4. Check your log by clicking the hamburger menu button in the bottom right corner. If you see red text like Mounting error for preload and cache, wipe them either with fastboot (I haven't done that) or, what I did was install LeeDroid, which wiped those partitions.
5. Install the ROM of your choice. (I've noted that I still had to use a Sprint specific kernel for my device, which makes me theorize that the firmware update zip might not change all partitions, which you'd need an RUU for to flash everything, I haven't tested that as my device works fine.)
6. Boot CM. Sometimes the screen will go dark, be patient with it, should boot in 5 minutes or less.
Try these and if they don't work, lemme know. I got nothing going on.

Go to settings, Cellular settings, network operator, let it load, and select the Verizon option. Go home, then open the settings app again (without closing the other one), and select the CDMA+LTE/EvDo option. Check your APN.
