[Q] Samsung galaxy s3 sgh-i747 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi everyone,
I like always am in a oakward situation and need your help if help can be provided to solve my problem.
First you need to know that i am in jail and dont have access to a pc, then i have a samsung s3 that for some reason got on the national black list. I cannot use it anymore unless i change the phone's imei. I have tried to root the phone without pc but always something missing or not working. I hsve access to internet trough a other phone and never rooted a phone before. This been said, i consider my self smart enough to follow instructions to solve my problem. Thank you all in advance for any help that vould be provided
Regards

Changing a devices imei is known as cloning, and except in very specific circumstances it is highly illegal. Even when certain requirements are met I personally feel it is extremely questionable as to the legality. Even if it is really legal and you met the requirements, ive heard about too many people that ended up having all sorts of odd problems after attempting it.
Also, afaik, it simply cannot be done without a computer and certain software.
One last thing, just so you are aware of it, due to the legal issues surrounding this, posting the information you are requesting is against the policies of just about every forum on the net. Any info that was out there at one time, or is discovered posted again gets deleted. Too many people were using it to clone stolen devices.
I am sorry, I know that's not the answer you were wanting to hear....

Exactly this ^^^
And as such, since we don't want to bring legal trouble to XDA, this thread is being closed.

overwhelmed

hi,
i recently got a xda trion and it's my 1st ppc. since i'm quite experienced with PCs i thought it would take me probably two days to get my device in a state that makes me happy. well,.... far from it ; )
i am completely overwhelmed at the moment and the worst thing is.... everywhere i go i notice that i lack the basic knowledge to join the conversation. since i get personally quite easy annoyed by rtfm-newbie questions i am in a starnge situation right now. i know that if i'd bite the bullet and read and work through everything related i will pretty soon master most of the required skills. i just really don't have that kind of sparetime at the moment. so maybe someone can give me a little shortcut and point me to the right places.
1st, i basically need a good foundation. until yesterday i havent heard anything about kitchens, romcooking and all that. is there a place where the basics are explained for dummies?
and now my actual problem. my device came with a german WM5 by O2. and it's causing already some problems. (paths not found by skinning application etc.) since my PC OS is also english I'd like to change it on my PPC. So I want to make a exact backup of my devices OS in case of some warranty issue and then install a english OS. one thing i dont know at all... does O2 usually try to prevent such action. for example by including some essential files which do not come with a clena install, but are required to use the phone with O2 as a carrier. I hope that was not too confusiong.
so... i would be very happy if someone could point me into the right directions, so that my waste of time by looking in the wrong places stays to a minimum.... and maybe letting me know about any problems that i might naturally run into when trying the above mentioned : )
thanks alot for your time
EDIT:
ummmm... one more thing. i spent hours yesterday to find some information on how to record phoneconversations. i cannot believe that there is really no way to do that with such a device. anyhow... the info i found was quite scattered and some of it seemed dated. what is the current status on this?
EDIT2:
aaargh... : ) why didn't i see this earlier. I guess most of my questions will be answered in the WIKI !!! Well, I was only checking out the FAQ which was kinda thin that's why I asked here : )thnanks
thanks

[Q] Clarifying the rooting process for beginners?

First of all it should be briefly noted that I am complete beginner on the subject of rooting, although I do have some basic knowledge of actually what it is.
But, apart from that I want to divert myself away from the confusion. Having watched/read at least 15 tutorials on the process, I've found that more people are having problems than actually enjoying the features. All l I really want to know, is there an exact fool proof method out there for the HTC one X that is undeniably going to work? Or for my benefit should I just stay clear of the process completely to avoid bricking my phone?
For my own use, all I essentially want from rooting is to simply change a few stock settings and maybe play around with a few apps. I don't really want to be messing around with new roms or the like. Having said that, what is it exactly I need to do in order to have my phone rooted and not be in danger of bricking/messing up my phone. I would still want to maintain updates from HTC, would this effect this? Or am I wanting too much?
Anyway, although most of you experts out there are probably going to be annoyed by another post like this but having done some extensive research on the process in such a small amount of time I still feel that things aren't clarified, which is probably why a lot of people do it wrong. I don't know maybe it's just human error, or a lack of understanding but I just don't want to brick my phone.
Any help breaking down the process from start to finish would be great.
I have a HTC One X running 4.1.1 on T mobile. I live in the UK so do i assume mine is the international version?

I assume that you have the fastboot files for the htc one x .
If not then please search on xda
Make sure u backup all your important data, contacts, etc
Step 1. Register on htcdev.com
Step 2. Unlocking the bootloader
Enable usb debugging on your phone
Power off your hox
Hold power button and volume down to get into bootloader
Select fastboot
Connect hox to ur pc using usb cable
Open command prompt
Go to your fastboot folder ex. cd c:\fastboot
type "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" without quotes
Copy the token code.. check on htcdev site for copying that token code
Submit your token code
Wait for an email from htc
After you get, download the Unlock_code.bin file from the email u received
Copy it to ur fastboot folder
In command prompt type "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin" without quotes
On your hox u will be prompted with "Unlock bootloader?"
Choose yes using volume buttons and then press power button
This unlocks your bootloader.
Sry gtg, will post on how to root, after sometime..
Till then unlock your bootloader.
Is the phone branded? Is the phone evita or endeavoru? Check the bootloader
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
There are lots of youtube video of the process.
It's really easy, if you follow them there is nothing dangerous that might happen.
Check this tool, it may make your life easier.
Good luck
Check the post by Hasoon in the stickies. Truly foolproof

One thing to make absolutely clear is that there is absolutely never, ever an exact foolproof method. The rooting process is as simple as it can be made and yet many fools somehow manage to screw their devices.
You are looking for a guarantee, a process that is "undeniably going to work". You are NOT going to get one.
Skipping some questions...

Because I'm not gonna spams if I'd do it correctly without problems. You better don't want to go through any exact noob proof methods believe me, else you'll most likely ended up with some bogus mistake/error accompany by panic and shout help me xda-ers...

Since we're using official bootloader unlocked process not s-off, we're actually immuned to hard bricking our phone. Unharmful soft bricking happening sometimes, however 99% of human mistake or boot image did't flash properly. Assumed that you're not going to flashes any custom ROM thus you will most unlikely to face bootloop btw.

Trickier parts. First let me explained how official OTA updates apply, it checks and verifying on many aspects to ensure integrity of the ROM. If you removed system apps, themed on it, altered framework files, you will fail to complete OTA update. Even you don't do somethings like I said, you will still lost root access after successfully apply though simple re-rooting resolve the problem.
To play safe, make sure you find a RUU for your phone (according to your phone's CID; edeavoru/evita does matter) with greater or same version number as your current. Else you might wanna to make yourself one immediately you unlokced your phone or look in the [Stock Nandroid Backups for Different CIDs] thread on this sub-forum. The reason to do that is so you can always fallback to original ROM state for an official OTA.
If the guides on this forum are not clear enough for you then you should not be attempting to do anything with your phone. There are a multitude of threads on here and 99% of them are aimed at the beginner and are as simple as they can be. If you cannot follow them then you haven't read enough. Please remember this is a Forum for developers and everyone else, including myself, is a guest here. No one is under any obligation to explain anything or provide guides of any kind, they do it because they want to. You are basically making a post directed at the people who have provided guides out of the goodness of their hearts and telling them that those guides are useless. That's not a very nice thing to do. And yes, this is another unnecessary thread
You have been clued
I'm not sure as to where I have implied or stated that the guides posted by the developers are in fact useless. I said that a lot of people make mistakes, partly due to miss understanding and miss information. If it what was that clear and fool proof people wouldn't have problems with the process, I've seen a number of people make mistakes following these guides.
It may also be a seemingly pointless post to you, and other developers, but to someone who isn't and isn't familiar with this kind of process, I have found it to be beneficial in clarifying some points I wanted to know.

It is clear and it is foolproof. I'm no expert and I used the guides to which you are referring. The problem, which you don't seem to be able to understand, is that the people who are having problems have not read and understood everything before they proceed. And you have implied that the guides are no good, again. It is not mis-information, it is impatience. Read, read and read again, use the search button and read once more. Everything you ask has been answered over and over again and everyone is fed up of seeing the same questions multiple times a day. Have a look in almost any rom thread and you will see that devs and team members are repeating themselves constantly simply because people can't or won't use the search button and fail to read previous posts.
Pause a little and think how the author of a help post must feel when they read that their guide is being reported as incomplete or incorrect after spending countless hours making sure the information is correct.
Rest assured that all guides are correct and accurate, if they weren't they would only be devs on here and no users.
Where are the cakes?
I'm not sure how use words like 'incomplete' or 'incorrect' when I have used neither to describe the developers guides.
For the third time, I said miss understanding and miss information on behalf of the users who are attempting the guides. Not at all did I say or imply that the developers guides are useless. Now, I fully understand the point you're making about this being annoying, I just failed to understand how annoying this actually is on a large scale. I'm new to forums like this and it's obvious now that repetitive posts become annoying after many people have already discuss them, to which I apologise for.

[Q]How to perma-brick via Android OS or TWRP?

Howdy folks. I'm not much of a developer, so I need a bit of help trying to make my concept a reality. Obviously if I'm successful, I'll give credit where credit is due. That being said, I'm looking for a way to hard-brick Android devices from either within the OS itself, or from a custom recovery, preferably TWRP. A kind of "self-destruct", if you will. And it has to be doable, or at least triggerable, from Android itself, so I can set it up to be activated remotely, via Tasker or what have you, nothing that I would need to connect the phone to a computer to use. So I guess what I need is either a script, or a recovery flash zip. I'm hoping for a universal solution, so it could be used for any Android device, not just mine. But if that's not available, my current devices are a T-Mobile S3 (obviously), HTC One, Motorola Xoom LTE (aka Wingray), and Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition (P600), and I'd like to have it working with any and/or all of my devices, at least. So, is there any way I can achieve this?
On a public forum accessible to unregistered users, such a discussion can and will open a can of worms. Yes indeed there are ways to do this. However I am sure ways of wanton destruction will violate XDA rules. Who knows, some unsavory folks came across this and sent it as a bomb to all ? You see where I am going ?
Having said that, I think your genuine intent is to make your device unusable in case of theft. Towards this, there really are several nice apps and services. Starting with Google's own Device manager to Where's my droid and quiet a few others. Please explore what they can do.
You're right about my intentions, but I don't just want to wipe my device if it's stolen, which is all those apps can do. I want to render it completely unusable, so whoever has taken it can't do anything with it. So what you're telling me is, if I DO come up with a way to do so, it's probably not a good idea to share it here?
Edit:

I'm not looking for something to send to my phone. I'm looking for something that would take an extensive set-up procedure. Something like a script, started by Tasker, in response to a VERY specific text message. Or maybe instead of a script, a zip being flashed, although I haven't quite figured out how to do that with Tasker yet. You're probably right about the XDA rules though, I didn't think about that.

Device encryption and Screen lock are supposed to serve precisely that exact purpose you are describing. Please explore. Do understand some of the other apps in the category of Lookout do offer a lot more features and functions. Please explore one or two of them.

I'm a noob to flashing and rooting, please help! Thanks in advance!

Good afternoon,
My name is JJ and my phone or service has taken a dump.
I have the Unlimited Plan with MetroPCS and its paid. I was on the phone today for an hour (on another device) and they have no idea what seems to be the problem. I live in great coverage zone. I have been having troubles connecting to the mobile network as well as getting, receiving both calls and texts. When I am connected to WiFi I am fine..ish. I set up apn settings a few times, most recent today with MetroPCS. My IMEI is good, paid in full phone which is a SM-G925T-ZDETMB (Galaxy s6 edge orginally from T-Mobile)
Took it to the store and they looked at me like I am a monkey.
I need my phone for work and can't afford to get another one. It seems to be in great working order other wise. I figure I might as well flash it and root it and make it mine or something. I downloaded ODIN and got freaked out because I have no clue what I am doing.
Be cool to flash it or root it with Nougat. Is that possible?
So I was hoping for a step by step guide here.
My service and phone worked great until about two weeks ago,..now its as intermittent and flipp flopped as Trump and his hair and policies. Thanks again in advance. Looking forward to a speedy reply. I got nothing else going on.
These forums are really dead for this device, you can root using this link: https://download.chainfire.eu/732/C...F-Auto-Root-zeroltetmo-zeroltetmo-smg925t.zip
There is no Nougat for us. You can flash new ROMs which give better battery life and other nice goodies, you can flash it after you root and install TWRP.
Sorry

Whats the difficulty with simply reading the threads here on the subject you're interested in? I mean after all, thats why they're here. If not, there'd be a million threads asking for step by step instructions. It seems like you have the competence to write your issue why not take it a step further and use the search button. Its clear you dont have any specific questions, youre simply looking for root instructions which have been posted and utilized by the thousands of other users who did use the search button. For whatever reason if youre needing these personalized Id suggest using your imagination and pretending they're written directly for you.
If youre still having issues, with this rather simple task that my 8 year old cousin could do by himself than perhaps rooting isnt your thing.. What youre asking is more basic than basic itself. By the way, when searching and reading you'll actually be gaining knowledge!
My apologies if you suffer from any health issues or current mental conditions that prevent you from these tasks..
Good luck

Regarding refurbished htc m8 update:

Well this post is regarding refurbished htc m8:
yesterday i bought my 2nd m8 from online...seller used it 3-4 months..it was quite new so there was very chance of being refurbished..the written marks on backside revealed its sprint variant..bt inside it was global..as it was quite ok i bought it..now what confused me was is it a global motherboard inside sprint casing or real sprint with modified rom? It was running kitkat 4.4.4 with no update as its common for refurbished..so i went through xda and found out a way..set was with s off and super cid..so couldnt recognise carrier from cid..then i checked mid and it revealed t mobile..so actually it was a tmob motherboard inside sprint casing..luckily tmob is gsm supported..so i changed the mid to global/europe..unlocked bootloader...downloaded stock rom and flashed from external sd with hboot..then i got all official updates from htc and my set is running marshmallow fluently..no network issue..everythinfmg fine nd battery backup increased..thats all..everything is available in xda..i think this post will be helpful for my bangladeshi brothers specially as lots of refurbished htc are sold here...thanx
Your post has many poorly based assumptions, and short on details, so I don't see how this can help anyone much at all. I appreciate the fact you are trying to convey some useful information to others. But the information is your post is missing a number of critical facts, and has some incompletely logic.
MID and CID are easily modified. You can't reliably assume the version (from the factory) by looking at the MID (although it can be a clue, along with looking at other things). Especially, if you know the phone has been modified (and possibly even had the back cover replaced) you need to look at more than the MID. You need to also look at the product ID (which I've never seen modified). The product ID for T-Mob (and a number of other "GSM" variants is m8_ul. Sprint would be m8_whl.
In your case, it looks like you had an incorrect or incomplete path of logic, and just got lucky. Others reading your post may not be so lucky. In fact, the info given in your post can even be dangerous. If someone with a Sprint variant were to flash a GSM RUU or firmware (with modified CID) this can result in a permanent radio brick.
The best way for an inexperienced user seeking to update or "debrand" a used/refurbished M8; is to do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (deleting IMEI and serial number before posting). That way, experienced "helpers" here can examine the device details, and provide the most correct, and safest way to proceed.
Additionally, if your intent is to help others, the best way to do so is to provide specific details as to what exact files you used (file names, links) and what guides or other threads you used (again, with links). Otherwise, its just a bunch of vague statements, which really don't add any value to what is already posted and available on this forum. Plus, you should really take the time to type proper sentences and paragraphs, with correct punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. A post written like a Twitter post just makes it hard to read, and hard to follow. Which pretty much defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
This advice may sounds harsh. But I'm just speaking constructively here. If your intent is to continue contribute to XDA, we welcome that. But the best way for you to contribute, is to have your facts straight, and post in a cohesive, understandable, and readable manner.
Sorry it was my mistake...first of all thaks alot for your valuable advice..i tried the ways in my way with taking lots of risk..i dont want anyone to risk there mobile..i just wanted to share my experience...infact its my first post...sorry for my fault..bt my logic was usually sprint set doesnt support 3g band in my country..as my previous one was sprint m8..in my recent m8 network was ok..so i guessed it may be a gsm set..that encouraged me of taking risk..and i also found a link in xda where from imei carrier branding could be identified..and there i found its mentioning tmobile..bt to avoid risk i changed the mid to global..though it was risky i know..i made this post just to give a clue if anyone ever suffers from updating there refurbished m8..and sorry for my language...due to busy life i thought it will be better to write in short rather not writing it..and thaks alot for your correction..i am really honored..i thought my post may go unnoticed!!

You've posted the same questions to 5 or 6 different threads now. This is against forum rules, as it clutters up the forum, and just confuses those trying to help you. It won't get you an answer any faster. Just stick to one thread.
