[Q] Can a S3 be returned to stock? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Greetings,
I am very new to the sprint S3 and i have only owned it for a few weeks now. I love the phone and its a huge upgrade from what i have been using. I have rooted a couple of phones and have used custom rom's and such but never on this device. I had a lg optimus T that i rooted and flashed.
I am thinking about rooting and flashing this device to cyanogenmod ( and i think the automated installer will work from the looks of it so far anyway ) but i have seen several times over the internet that some features of the phone might not work properly after the flash. Would i be able to return the phone back to stock rom if i flash over to cyanogenmod? Mind you right now i have no way to backup the nand or factory rom.
My phone has been updated to kitkat also if that matters.

To go completely back to stock with stock recovery and everything you would use Odin. You say it has been updated to KitKat. I assume you mean stock OTA ND8 so if that is true make sure you DON'T Odin anything lower. You will be able to start over on a shiny new phone if you do because this one will be toast.

Yes, you would just use Odin on a PC to flash the stock ND8 tar file and it would be fresh as a babies bottom. Well, maybe not but it would put everything literally back to how it was when it was brand new.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738533
It would also wipe your internal storage, so make sure you save pics, videos and downloads off of it (move to the MicroSD card) first.
Just NEVER ever Odin anything older than ND8, or try to flash an older modem than ND8 or you'll brick your phone.
It's a great phone, especially with KitKat! Enjoy and have fun!
P.S. FYI, questions go in the Q&A section.

[Q] Latest STABLE Cyanogenmod or other rom for Boost Mobile Variant

I would like to find a Rom for My Boost Mobile Galaxy S 3. I have used a couple different roms and none were very stable, Kept getting "android UI has stopped" issues. I am looking for the latest stable custom rom for Galaxy S 3 Boost Mobile Variant.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers
By CM or other do you mean other AOSP type, or TouchWiz included? ND8 /NDC TouchWiz 4.4.2 is very, very stable.

I am cool with a touchwiz ROM but I want to be able to tether and stuff like a aosp ROM. Really prefer an aosp Rom. Though. Link to that touch wiz ROM?
Thanks cheers
Almost every TouchWiz ROM has native free tethering any more. It's easy to flash it on stock rooted TouchWiz, too.

or

The first one is Wicked X. Stone of the early versions you still had to flash the tethering mod after, he might have it all worked out by now.
The second is what I'm running now, and he's making it more and more to look like AOSP, like all the way, so maybe you'd like it better. I believe it includes tethering and haven't tested that yet but again if not it's easy to flash.
You have to Odin the stock ND8 tar the first time before you flash any ND8 or NDC TouchWiz 4.4.2 ROMs. You'll find it in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738533
That will wipe your internal storage so back that up first. The Odin the latest Philz Touch Recovery, use it to re-root, then flash away.
Never Odin anything older than ND8 after that or you'll brick your phone. You can still flash from recovery anything you want except not an older modem, too.

[Q] Looking for file: System/bin/ddexe

I'm currently running android 4.3 stock on a rooted Sprint GS3. I tried updating via the OTA but kept getting an "unexpected information found in system/bin/ddexe". Did some searching online and discovered I needed to rename system/bin/ddexe_real to ddexe and delete the current ddexe "dummy file". Long story short, I deleted the wrong file (ddexe_real). Just curious if someone with the Sprint version of the GS3 running stock 4.3 could send me the system/bin/ddexe_real file. Thanks in advance. I've searched everywhere for it.

Just extract it from Cnexus' odex stock rooted ROM or try dirty flashing that ROM.
If you have a custom recovery, the OTA will never succeed in upgrading your phone.

You have to be 100% stock to run the OTA. If you're rooted, it means you have custom recovery, yes? I haven't heard of the ddexe, but have heard of the OTA failing because of root/CWM. If you're rooted, and don't care about knox, and want the latest, just flash the tar through Odin, and call it a day That's what I'd do, and it would make life SO much easier than trying to change files in bin...good luck!

[Q] VM S3 Issues on CM 10.2

Hey all, this is my first post so be patient with me. A while back I decided to root my Galaxy s3 with Virgin Mobile so that I could play around with different ROMs and such. I followed struckn's guide using Philz and it was working fine. However I did not make a full backup using recovery while still on the stock ROM (first mistake). I used online nandroid to make a backup and once I flashed cyanogenmod 10.2 I made another online nandroid backup. Everything was going relatively fine, enjoyed new root access and all, but then when the KitKat update started rolling out, CGM rolled out the CM11 update which never worked right on my phone. 3G and 4G never seemed to work. I then went back to my 10.2 flash and tried again to no avail. I wasn't too upset as I was fine with the 10.2 ROM, but now I've grown tired of random bugs and CM recently deleted all of my texts for no apparent reason and the camera is having issues being recognized by other apps (instagram/snapchat/etc). Thus, I decided to flash back to my nandroid backup of the stock rooted ROM, to now get the MD5 mismatch error message everyone hates. After looking it up, none of the guides seemed to work for me as there was no backup file in the location they suggested. Using ROM manager I could see that the backups I had made were in /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup, but when I tried using root file browsers to locate this in order to fix the MD5 error, the location did not exist anywhere. Obviously this sucked as I could not reflash my backups, and I could not update to KitKat either. I have been thinking about it for a while anyway and am considering just wiping my phone (losing data but I'll survive, I backup everything important, just have to re-download apps from Play) and using Odin to flash the new 4.4.2 stock ROM that jdsingle76 posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2774333 and I'm pretty sure that it means I'll start with a fresh slate with no root.
tl;dr Is going back to stock at this point and starting over my only option to fix the MD5 mismatch error at this point? I cannot browse to fix the backup files and have no full cwm backup to go to (though I did just make one today in case whatever I do now goes wrong). Also, will this .tar file be a true "stock" ROM in that Knox and everything Kies is back on my phone with the Samsung apps that we all know and (don't) love?
Yes that's what you should Odin, what you linked to.
Yes it'll be completely stock.
I suggest to you that you first do that, because it's a necessary prerequisite and then Odin the very latest Philz Touch Recovery, and use that to flash Conquest: Singularity, which is when you install it'll ask you if you're on Sprint, Boost or VM, and it'll set it up correctly.
Or Wicked X v7.1 or Tribute ROM. You'll like any of these even better than completely stock.

[Q] Data dropping at random, any help?

Hey, this is my very first post here, so hopefully I'm in the right place and not repeating questions already asked, however my searches are turning up zilch in regards to the specifics of my issue.
I've had this problem follow me from rom to rom. I don't know if it started while I was still on Jellybean roms or after I hopped onto KitKat, but it has been with me for a while now.
When I'm going about my day, data will suddenly drop. The icon still displays 4G or LTE, but apps that need data won't connect and the browser just hangs. After rebooting, nearly always, the phone will be in 3G, even though the location has great 4G. It will work from here on out, or until it decides to crap out once again. It has done it with 3G too, though, the problem is not only with 4G.
In fact, I've noticed, especially as of late, that my service is awful. I can be in areas where I've usually had full bars, now I have just one bar.
On stock, I could just click PRL update or whatnot, but that's not an option anymore. Could it be that these sort of things are out of date? I'm really only familiar with flashing roms, not flashing kernels or radios.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Carbon Rom (Nightly - released 07/07/14, I believe)
KitKat 4.4.4
Previous KitKat roms, same issue:
SlimKat
CyanFox
Carbon
Cyanogenmod
Paranoid Android
Make a nandroid backup, flash an MK3 (TouchWiz 4.3) ROM temporarily, if you're on the MD4 bootloader.
Then in the stock dialer, ##72786#.
After, update PRL and Profile. Then restore your nandroid and find out if that helped. You could also check to see if Sprint is working on upgrading your area.

Moving back to stock from Cyanogenmod

Hi all, I just dug up my old S3 and need to go back to stock. It has a CM11 nightly on there with the MK3 baseband and CWM recovery (and no Knox loaded!). Needless to say, I've been out of the loop for the past year or so and all of these threads about Odin and the newer updates have my head spinning! I want to go back to stock but also want the ability to re-root and load a different ROM later on. If I use the Odin one click here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2755793), would this cause any problem with re-rooting, recovery, or whatever else? I was burned on my newer Droid MAXX when I updated to a firmware that couldn't be rooted so I don't want that to happen in this case if possible.
TL;DR
If I'm on Cyanogenmod with MK3 (no Knox bootloader), what's the safest way to go back to stock with the ability to re-root later?
Thanks!

Yes, that is fine and can be easily rerooted.

But if I was to use the one-click, wouldn't that load Knox and that would be permanently disabling any downgrading in the future? If I just flashed the stock 4.3 ROM and installed as normal through CWM, that should keep everything the same (bootloader, modem, etc) correct?
Yes... 4.3 has Knox by the way.
I flashed the 4.3 ROM and haven't had any issues so far. Still managed to avoid installing Knox somehow. Download mode doesn't mention anything about a warranty bit.
