[Q] VM S3 Issues on CM 10.2 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey all, this is my first post so be patient with me. A while back I decided to root my Galaxy s3 with Virgin Mobile so that I could play around with different ROMs and such. I followed struckn's guide using Philz and it was working fine. However I did not make a full backup using recovery while still on the stock ROM (first mistake). I used online nandroid to make a backup and once I flashed cyanogenmod 10.2 I made another online nandroid backup. Everything was going relatively fine, enjoyed new root access and all, but then when the KitKat update started rolling out, CGM rolled out the CM11 update which never worked right on my phone. 3G and 4G never seemed to work. I then went back to my 10.2 flash and tried again to no avail. I wasn't too upset as I was fine with the 10.2 ROM, but now I've grown tired of random bugs and CM recently deleted all of my texts for no apparent reason and the camera is having issues being recognized by other apps (instagram/snapchat/etc). Thus, I decided to flash back to my nandroid backup of the stock rooted ROM, to now get the MD5 mismatch error message everyone hates. After looking it up, none of the guides seemed to work for me as there was no backup file in the location they suggested. Using ROM manager I could see that the backups I had made were in /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup, but when I tried using root file browsers to locate this in order to fix the MD5 error, the location did not exist anywhere. Obviously this sucked as I could not reflash my backups, and I could not update to KitKat either. I have been thinking about it for a while anyway and am considering just wiping my phone (losing data but I'll survive, I backup everything important, just have to re-download apps from Play) and using Odin to flash the new 4.4.2 stock ROM that jdsingle76 posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2774333 and I'm pretty sure that it means I'll start with a fresh slate with no root.
tl;dr Is going back to stock at this point and starting over my only option to fix the MD5 mismatch error at this point? I cannot browse to fix the backup files and have no full cwm backup to go to (though I did just make one today in case whatever I do now goes wrong). Also, will this .tar file be a true "stock" ROM in that Knox and everything Kies is back on my phone with the Samsung apps that we all know and (don't) love?

Yes that's what you should Odin, what you linked to.
Yes it'll be completely stock.
I suggest to you that you first do that, because it's a necessary prerequisite and then Odin the very latest Philz Touch Recovery, and use that to flash Conquest: Singularity, which is when you install it'll ask you if you're on Sprint, Boost or VM, and it'll set it up correctly.
Or Wicked X v7.1 or Tribute ROM. You'll like any of these even better than completely stock.

[Q] Updating Clockwork Mod Recovery

Please be nice, been googling around about this for the past 2 hours and still lost (lots of articles, none with what I think is the correct solution), so I'm finally posting about it...
Trying to flash my phone with the latest Cyanogen mod 11.0 (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540250 ). However, I am getting the status 7 error message. Apparently, according to the forum, I need to update clockwork mod to the newest version.
Currently my CWM tells me it is "CWM-based Recovery v6.0.3.3. However when I check http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager it says the newest version of CWM for my phone is 5.0.2.7. I've downloaded that zip file and tried flashing it inside of CWM but after changing to the new/other version it switches right back to v6.0.3.3 immediately after I reboot into recovery again.
I also have the newest odin versions downloaded on my computer, both 3.07 and 3.09. However, to flash anything through ODIN I need a .tar file for CWM, and I cannot find one. All I can find are full roots that have CWM included I think?
Note: I updated my kernel to the new one recommended on the CyanogenMod page before trying, and failing, to flash the new Cyanogen Mod. So I know my kernel might be a little wonky for the revolt rom version I'm running, not sure what to do about that either.
Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong/provide the proper download link for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Phone model number SPH-D710
Revolt rom 4+ last stable version 4.2
Android version 4.2.2
Kernel 3.0.31-CM-g10a225a
First ROM Manager does not support this phone, don't read anything it has to say about this device, don't use the app, forget you heard of it. Second, Status 7 is a syntax error, probably a bad download... Make sure you verify md5sum before flashing.

I heard of ROM manager but didn't want to use it, hope you don't mean that ODIN is the same thing? (I assume you were just warning me away from it, haha)
As to the md5sum, it looks like it is a match.
Post from the page seems to be that the work around is to have the newest cwm?
Here was something zachf714 posted
"status 7 comes from the fact that for the moment you need the latest cwm to install 4.4"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48105118&highlight=status+7#post48105118
I'm such a newbie I'm not entirely sure what to do with this information. Tried to do lots of searching before finally giving in and making this post.
Btw, thanks for your help so far
Figured it out!
So I went to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2416620
downloaded blasphemy kernel v.6.6.
Then I first flashed the new kernel, then revolt rom 4.3. Not sure which one did it for me, but it allowed me to install Cyanogen 11.0 finally
Win!
Recovery is included in the kernel on this device

[Q] Rooting problems

Hello i've some problem with my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2.
Last week i updated my phone on Android 4.3 version.
Unfortunelly i had a wifi bug and I couldn't connect to internet, so I decided to downgrade it to 4.1.2. I've flashed my stock ROM with the newest one. (thanks to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380 )
Afterward, i would rooting my phone and install custom binary CWM by this thread, option 2.
However i can't modifiy system files. I consequently would verify my status root by Titanium Backup. And that's really strange because it is already rooted.

So i'd like to know how to resolve my problem, i how to modify system files?
(PS: sorry for my bad English!)
PS2: That's the same thing if i connect it on SSH/FTP protocols, unable to modify too.
I have T889 version and I just updated today with 4.3 with no problem.
I would say the best thing is just start from scratch and reinstall your app.
I don't even use TB anymore, I used to but I just happen to run into problem a lot.
I decided to just reinstall apps everytime I flash rom.

So, do you advise me to re-install the 4.1.2 version and re-root again?
update: I've re-installed and re-rooting my stock rom and nothing has changed. Can you help me please?

Try using the Odin again and when you full wipe don't even do anything just update to the original 4.3 via Tmobile.
After that install CWM or TWRP, Like I said I never had any issues installing Rom back and forth.
Just don't skip a step and never rush things.

I didin't understood that happened to me,
After several minutes and after downloading an alternative file explorer, SU granted to me to modify system files.

[Q] Looking for file: System/bin/ddexe

I'm currently running android 4.3 stock on a rooted Sprint GS3. I tried updating via the OTA but kept getting an "unexpected information found in system/bin/ddexe". Did some searching online and discovered I needed to rename system/bin/ddexe_real to ddexe and delete the current ddexe "dummy file". Long story short, I deleted the wrong file (ddexe_real). Just curious if someone with the Sprint version of the GS3 running stock 4.3 could send me the system/bin/ddexe_real file. Thanks in advance. I've searched everywhere for it.

Just extract it from Cnexus' odex stock rooted ROM or try dirty flashing that ROM.
If you have a custom recovery, the OTA will never succeed in upgrading your phone.

You have to be 100% stock to run the OTA. If you're rooted, it means you have custom recovery, yes? I haven't heard of the ddexe, but have heard of the OTA failing because of root/CWM. If you're rooted, and don't care about knox, and want the latest, just flash the tar through Odin, and call it a day That's what I'd do, and it would make life SO much easier than trying to change files in bin...good luck!

[Q] Can a S3 be returned to stock?

Greetings,
I am very new to the sprint S3 and i have only owned it for a few weeks now. I love the phone and its a huge upgrade from what i have been using. I have rooted a couple of phones and have used custom rom's and such but never on this device. I had a lg optimus T that i rooted and flashed.
I am thinking about rooting and flashing this device to cyanogenmod ( and i think the automated installer will work from the looks of it so far anyway ) but i have seen several times over the internet that some features of the phone might not work properly after the flash. Would i be able to return the phone back to stock rom if i flash over to cyanogenmod? Mind you right now i have no way to backup the nand or factory rom.
My phone has been updated to kitkat also if that matters.

To go completely back to stock with stock recovery and everything you would use Odin. You say it has been updated to KitKat. I assume you mean stock OTA ND8 so if that is true make sure you DON'T Odin anything lower. You will be able to start over on a shiny new phone if you do because this one will be toast.
Yes, you would just use Odin on a PC to flash the stock ND8 tar file and it would be fresh as a babies bottom. Well, maybe not but it would put everything literally back to how it was when it was brand new.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738533
It would also wipe your internal storage, so make sure you save pics, videos and downloads off of it (move to the MicroSD card) first.
Just NEVER ever Odin anything older than ND8, or try to flash an older modem than ND8 or you'll brick your phone.
It's a great phone, especially with KitKat! Enjoy and have fun!
P.S. FYI, questions go in the Q&A section.

[Q] My GS3 is an impregnable wall. No rooting or flashing methods work.

Hi guys. First post to the forum, been lurking for years, just registered.
I recently updated my phone with the update that Samsung kept bothering me about every 2 hours or so. And It has messed my phone up, it's slow, it drags. It doesn't even show the clock on my lock screen without thinking about it for about 10 seconds. Train wreck.
I've rooted, installed custom recovery, and loaded custom roms on my Galaxy S i9000 and on my grouper Nexus 7. I kinda get how all this works, I'm not a total newb, but with this phone I am at a dead end and i've tried everything I know, and a bunch more tricks I learned here and nothing is working.
My Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3: Canadian (Bell) version SGH-I747M, supposedly the same as the S3 AT&T,

I had to use zadig to replace my drivers for Heimdall
Heimdall will sucessfully flash clockwork recovery, but it refuses to install my CM rom. I haven't tried any other roms, but from what I've read in the forum here, it doesn't seem to matter what rom you use, it just wont do it.
I get Assert, bootloader errors when trying to install from zip in Clockwork Recovery. tried the fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41503727
and it does not work. Odin just says "FAILED" right away.
I thought maybe if I just rooted the phone first, I could at least flash a custom recovery and not have it over written everytime I boot.
I tried CF-AutoRoot, Odin says success, but nothing changes on my phone.
I tried OneClickRoot which worked wonders on my GS i9000 back in the day. No success.
I have tried CM Installer to do it automated, It says success, but no change.
People have reported that Knox may be the problem, but as far as I can tell I don't have it on my phone.
I've been working on this for a day and a half and all I've managed to do is factory reset my phone about 12 times. I need help.. I don't know what to do. Has anybody managed to root their phone or install a custom recovery or rom with a GS3 running 4.4?
If you are getting assert errors, try a different rom.
What firmware are you currently on?
Simple solution: flash firmware via Odin
Root using Towelroot
Install SuperSU from the play store
Open SuperSU and update binary and disable knox.
Done
I was having problems on my s3 running 4.4.2 NE6 after 2x failed root attempts. Then had sluggish performance.
Yesterday, I updated using kies to get the latest 4.4.2 NF2. Everything seems back to normal.
I heard in another thread that cf auto root works for NF2 but i personnaly haven't had the time to try it.
Ok, what im hearing is Towelroot won't work anymore on NF2. But most of our older methods should work fine. No idea about the problems you observed though. Root alone shouldn't have any effect on performance.
