So I have decided to take on putting ubuntu on the galaxy nexus. I am using a reconstructed img based on the HD2's build. To Start i will be using the same methond to boot ubuntu nativly on the nexus s. So this thread is to keep people updated on whats going on. just so everyone knows since i am busy with other projects there will be no eta. Once finished i will start a dev thread under the Galaxy nexus CDMA Development section.

Good luck with this. I will be following even though I dont have any interest in having Ubuntu on my phone unless maybe in a dual boot function.
Well eventually thats what im shooting for.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889433 <-- this is the thread for the hd2
but eventually once a stable build is created i want to have dual boot feature so.
Hoping the best for this with dual boot, thanks in advance for your efforts

This will be fully native right? As opposed to ones that use a vnc server/client?
Yes this will be fully native and evenually dual boot. Once a stable build is ready for release

Erm... "kernel"
why just because you can? i will follow this for knowledge but don't see the point ... isnt ubuntu making a moblie version of the os themselves with a possible hardware phone too? i dont think it really has a place ... never the less i wish you good luck
ubuntu would be best for tablets not phone imo
I'm not putting a desktop version of Ubuntu on the phones. And yes but its based on android GUI and android code. I am doing this because it becomes an option..... something different . And I had an hd2 the idea itself and the actual build was pretty interesting. But think about a mobile true Linux device. All the possabilities

Also I want to make point of this Ubuntu mobile OS will be similar to android with an effing unity interface. Personally I hate the unity interface. By porting Linux Ubuntu this opens the doors for things like idk for ex programming custom gui's. Ha aha if somebody wishes a true mobile hacking unit lol not that I support this fashion of hacking. But again its DIFFERENT. But all in due tine need to get through my exams

If I can propose something, please have the RTL8187 module already built in with USB host active!
Can't wait to see development!!!!
If you need beta testers let me know! I'm more than happy to help with this project.
Awesome idea USB functionality I already incorporated and I will let everyone know on a beta

Also, provide kernel source and headers so if anyone who wants to build new modules/drivers it will be easier!
I would look at Backtrack-ARM too. I am running it in chroot but having native would be awesome! If we can find elite engineers to convert our broadcom wifi and make it monitor/injection working would be like the n900 but with way more power and bigger/better screen for mobile pentesting!

So one rumored feature of Android 4.4 KitKat is firmware availability to older devices. Does that mean we will see it on our Desire HDs??
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Just because it CAN run on older devices doesn't mean developers will develop it. And HTC certainly won't. So the answer is, as it is every time there's a new Android OS announcement, if a dev devs it.
Its near impossible for HTC to develop it as they gave up with 4.0 IceCreamSandwich. As Miss B so eloquently put it, just cause it can doesn't mean Devs will.

I know LG said they'd skip Android 4.3 for the G2 and go directly for 4.4 which means even their flagship phone will have to wait for a while. So I'm wondering if our tablet will get any updates from LG at all. Would be nice for the devs to have at least some new source codes to work with. I haven't been able to find any info on this, what do you think?
LG are notoriously crap at providing updates. Don't hold your breath. But until then, my G Pad works fine on 4.2

Just a newbie question..
What are the odds of seeing a ported pure lollipop ROM from the developer previews to the G3? Is that even possible at this stage?
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Free mobile app
I'd imagine some devs are beginning to port it as we speak. The source code just dropped a few days ago if Im not mistaken so It will take a while to adapt to the G3. Also note, that we have to wait till we can bump our ROMs, because without that, we might as well be carrying around a laptop in our back pocket to fastboot it. Don't worry, im as excited as you are. Also note that I do believe LG is working hard on their Optimus skin for Lollipop as well. So that should be on it's way next month if we are being optimistic.
Thanx for your answer.
I'm very excited on what's coming next for us.
I saw the Dev build on a nexus and it was jaw dropping.
Optimus UI along with 5.0 is sweet idea yes, but not as close to an AOSP.
Currently running CM11 tethered, loving each second of it lol

i have worked on a port of lollypop since last month and the main problem is kernel that's not working with rom.. (kernel panic) we need lollipop sources for kernel at least
Isn't the source release helping you with that?

I'm looking to get a 5X but want to do development testing against KitKat 4.4 and 5.1. I could use an emulator, but those are slow and wanted to try custom software on real hardware.
Is this possible, perhaps using older CyanogenMod or similar?
Anything is possible. It's not probable though.
You can probably buy an N4 and N5 for cheap though. They run the versions you want.
