So I have decided to take on putting ubuntu on the galaxy nexus. I am using a reconstructed img based on the HD2's build. To Start i will be using the same methond to boot ubuntu nativly on the nexus s. So this thread is to keep people updated on whats going on. just so everyone knows since i am busy with other projects there will be no eta. Once finished i will start a dev thread under the Galaxy nexus CDMA Development section.
UBUNTU NEXUS

Working on kernal and recompiling a boot.img
Also If anyone is willing to help please let me know Shoot me a PM. If your interested in testing the builds also PM me,

Good luck with this. I will be following even though I dont have any interest in having Ubuntu on my phone unless maybe in a dual boot function.
Well eventually thats what im shooting for.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889433 <-- this is the thread for the hd2
but eventually once a stable build is created i want to have dual boot feature so.
Hoping the best for this with dual boot, thanks in advance for your efforts

This will be fully native right? As opposed to ones that use a vnc server/client?
Yes this will be fully native and evenually dual boot. Once a stable build is ready for release

Erm... "kernel"
why just because you can? i will follow this for knowledge but don't see the point ... isnt ubuntu making a moblie version of the os themselves with a possible hardware phone too? i dont think it really has a place ... never the less i wish you good luck
ubuntu would be best for tablets not phone imo
I'm not putting a desktop version of Ubuntu on the phones. And yes but its based on android GUI and android code. I am doing this because it becomes an option..... something different . And I had an hd2 the idea itself and the actual build was pretty interesting. But think about a mobile true Linux device. All the possabilities

Also I want to make point of this Ubuntu mobile OS will be similar to android with an effing unity interface. Personally I hate the unity interface. By porting Linux Ubuntu this opens the doors for things like idk for ex programming custom gui's. Ha aha if somebody wishes a true mobile hacking unit lol not that I support this fashion of hacking. But again its DIFFERENT. But all in due tine need to get through my exams

If I can propose something, please have the RTL8187 module already built in with USB host active!
Can't wait to see development!!!!
If you need beta testers let me know! I'm more than happy to help with this project.
Awesome idea USB functionality I already incorporated and I will let everyone know on a beta

Also, provide kernel source and headers so if anyone who wants to build new modules/drivers it will be easier!
I would look at Backtrack-ARM too. I am running it in chroot but having native would be awesome! If we can find elite engineers to convert our broadcom wifi and make it monitor/injection working would be like the n900 but with way more power and bigger/better screen for mobile pentesting!

Hi everyone,
As you probably have heard, the Ubuntu Touch (alpha) image has been released for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, 7 and 10.
I would like to request porting it to our N7100 devices!
If I could I would do it myself but I have never ported anything.. However, if I can help in any way I will gladly do what I can!
For reference:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
Since Galaxy S3 was one of the best-selling smartphone, I hope will be a port for it and consequentially for note 2 that has the same hardware platform
its not the place to Request a port.

big boooi no need to request, the porting instructions just came online and seem as "easy" as building CM from source.
its only natural that ports will be available on most devices.

There is no point of porting it currently, as most things don't work very well..
This is for devs, to test their apps. Not for users.. (yet )

I am aware of this.. But porting also has it's own malfunctions and problems. By porting an alpha release some of these problems can be solved before the stable release, was my thought

Hi Dev,
Ubuntu Touch is fabulous and it looks great.
I see you were working hardly last month in porting Ubuntu touch in SGN2.
But this month no update, not a single post. Is this project ALIVE or being DISCONTINUED or DEAD???
Dev pl work on it, we have lots of hope on you.
Thanks
The unstoppable Sergio Schvezov is working on bug 1201811 right now. Once it's fixed this should put is into a position where users of devices for which we have Ubuntu Touch images (and not just the four devices we supported right from the start) can just use phablet-flash. This doesn't mean that they are "officially supported" or that they're built daily in the Canonical data centre, but that you can make use of the images much more easily.
Over time we still want to build more images in the data centre in a regular fashion. One of the big blockers there has been information about the redistributability of firwmare, blobs and closed kernel modules. If you have information about the licenses any of these, it'd be great if you could help with updating the Touch device pages.
On Thursday, 1st August we are going to hold a Ubuntu Touch Porting Clinic in #ubuntu-touch on irc.freenode.net where you will be able to ask all the questions you have and our local experts can help you with updating your image(s) to the new world order. We hope to see you there!

Without adding support for CDMA I suspect this idea with sizzle out rather then take off. Just my two cents. I'm a Verizon user and was super excited to see this... But since CDMA support was announced not to be on the roadmap I've almost forgotten about the project, not a good thing. Good luck

I try ubuntu touch for 2 days in my galaxy nexus (maguro) and i think it work quite well but it isn't for daily use yet.
There aren't bugs in that MobileOS (or I haven't found these bugs) but the biggest problem is the laggy (too much laggy because the kernel isn't optimized for UubuntuTouch). I appreciate the canonical's work and I wish I'll able to use this OS daily

On my Galaxy Nexus it's more fluid than any Android version. What build have you tested? Since July Ubuntu Touch shouldn't lag anymore.

Is there any update on the progress on any roms for the Gtab 3? I know we are over excited for it.
At this point we only have root...... once my pc is fixed I'll be working on cm 10.1 and 10.2......but that could be a bit yet

Please work on it, we're patient but do it :'( I got a WiFi only Galaxy Tab 1 and it's absolutely depressing to see how there's not a single worthy custom ROM.... It's capable of much but no.... It was just left to die... Guess no one would like that for our GT3
I synced cm 10.1 last night......now I have to try and port this over.......this is my first port.......we also need a working recovery before roms start popping.
Do you have an 7 inch or an 8?

Well, I now have rooted the factory software for the SM-T211 GSM/WIFI.
And I have a new theory on how I'm going to get recovery working........ I just have to figure out how to build it first.........lol
But once I'n done I should have a Odin flashable stock firmware that has CWM or TWRP......... let see how that pans out.......
Anyone who has built a recovery should PM me so we can talk.
Thanks!!
Here if you need me....
I too am just now learning the finer points of android (or, programing in general, for that matter) but I do have a galaxy tab 3 7.0, am a fairly quick learner who's eager to do so and I can follow instructions... So whatever help I could be- I'd be honored. Just let me know. Regardless, many thanks, much love and all due respect.

I have a t310 = Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.
Which I have sucessfully rooted/Busybox/Terminal working.
Will anyone be working on a custom firmware with UMS (USB Mass storage) working.
As I am sick of transfering MicroSD from PC to Tablet 10 times a day.
I mostly transfer txt/html/js/pl and py files to my tablet. So MTP and PTP aren't much use to me.

Hi,
I saw a video of Ubuntu touch on YouTube and to me it looks stable and usable as a daily.
Also, Canonical have set a date for version 1.0 release. October 17th, which isn't long to go, so...
I was curious if there was interest in getting this project going again?
If I had the knowledge to port this myself I would, but I don't, nor do I have a desktop PC that works.

I've tried making a build, but with no success. I'm not a developer so I don't understand kernel stuff...

Nope, I'd say its pretty useless for us because it's just parts of the system and not the things we need, saddly... It is however usefull to see what the ROM devs will be up against once the full code is released so maybe they can bring L to us earlier that they previously thought
