Ubuntu Touch interest - HTC One X

Hi,
I saw a video of Ubuntu touch on YouTube and to me it looks stable and usable as a daily.
Also, Canonical have set a date for version 1.0 release. October 17th, which isn't long to go, so...
I was curious if there was interest in getting this project going again?
If I had the knowledge to port this myself I would, but I don't, nor do I have a desktop PC that works.

I'm interested in this too.
I've tried making a build, but with no success. I'm not a developer so I don't understand kernel stuff...
I hope someone will make a working build, because Ubuntu touch looks like a really great OS.

There was a thread about this topic but they stated @ this state radio (data,bluetooth,gps) would not be functioning

I'll try to do something again when the stable build will come out guys, but don't expect miracles

waiting for that moment buddy.

i'm waiting for that moment when dual booting will be available for android Multi Core devices.
lets think only in positive way :laugh:

I am using Ubuntu OS on laptop,dekstop.I am wondering Ubuntu touch.Maybe New Phone OS will be very bugs.

Hello all,
meanwhile some time has passed and Ubuntu TOuch has reached stable on some devices. Would anyone be still interested in trying to port again to HTC One X now? I think chances are not so bad that it would be successful.

When's dgb geting it?
New year with a new rom, I can live with that. I just hope they aren't gonna hit any roadblocks so they can release it on time.
I bet AdamG would release Oxygen 3.0 a lot earlier than CM9 knowing that it wouldn't have heavy customization that CM roms are known for.

Well I can compile and develop source once someone has got it working intially but I have limited knowledge of the driver and kernel side and what is involved in getting a working build on an unsupported device. I had a small play last night but to be honest I have no idea how to get something working without the help of others.
Awww come on rootsu u can do it

Good luck with this. I will be following even though I dont have any interest in having Ubuntu on my phone unless maybe in a dual boot function.
Well eventually thats what im shooting for.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889433 <-- this is the thread for the hd2
but eventually once a stable build is created i want to have dual boot feature so.
Hoping the best for this with dual boot, thanks in advance for your efforts :thumbup:

This will be fully native right? As opposed to ones that use a vnc server/client?
Yes this will be fully native and evenually dual boot. Once a stable build is ready for release

Erm... "kernel"
why just because you can? i will follow this for knowledge but don't see the point ... isnt ubuntu making a moblie version of the os themselves with a possible hardware phone too? i dont think it really has a place ... never the less i wish you good luck
ubuntu would be best for tablets not phone imo
I'm not putting a desktop version of Ubuntu on the phones. And yes but its based on android GUI and android code. I am doing this because it becomes an option..... something different . And I had an hd2 the idea itself and the actual build was pretty interesting. But think about a mobile true Linux device. All the possabilities

Also I want to make point of this Ubuntu mobile OS will be similar to android with an effing unity interface. Personally I hate the unity interface. By porting Linux Ubuntu this opens the doors for things like idk for ex programming custom gui's. Ha aha if somebody wishes a true mobile hacking unit lol not that I support this fashion of hacking. But again its DIFFERENT. But all in due tine need to get through my exams

If I can propose something, please have the RTL8187 module already built in with USB host active!
Can't wait to see development!!!!
If you need beta testers let me know! I'm more than happy to help with this project.
Awesome idea USB functionality I already incorporated and I will let everyone know on a beta

Also, provide kernel source and headers so if anyone who wants to build new modules/drivers it will be easier!
I would look at Backtrack-ARM too. I am running it in chroot but having native would be awesome! If we can find elite engineers to convert our broadcom wifi and make it monitor/injection working would be like the n900 but with way more power and bigger/better screen for mobile pentesting!

[Q] the way forward,,ubuntu

love my dhd , will be sad to see it go and will probably not buy htc again in protest of the ICS saga.
Anyways, seen this a good few months ago and wondering are we any closer to running ubuntu yet ?
http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android
For me this seems to be the way forward
Multi-core req
I also love my DHD, but i seem that the ubuntu project requires a multicore (minimum dual) so I don't think this will be posible.

You seem to doubt the development team greatly. Whenever ubuntu for mobile become ever more popular or when a dev has the free time to work on a port it will be done.
There are many lower end devices that are not fully 1Ghz running android from its original (windows mobile) so relax and see;jelly bean and ics ports are still in swing

[DEV REQUEST] Ubuntu Touch port to N7100?

Hi everyone,
As you probably have heard, the Ubuntu Touch (alpha) image has been released for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, 7 and 10.
I would like to request porting it to our N7100 devices!
If I could I would do it myself but I have never ported anything.. However, if I can help in any way I will gladly do what I can!
For reference:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
Since Galaxy S3 was one of the best-selling smartphone, I hope will be a port for it and consequentially for note 2 that has the same hardware platform
its not the place to Request a port.

big boooi no need to request, the porting instructions just came online and seem as "easy" as building CM from source.
its only natural that ports will be available on most devices.

Device = Note 2
Rom = Omega 12

Kernel = Perseus 32
(Cpu [email protected],Gpu [email protected])

There is no point of porting it currently, as most things don't work very well..
This is for devs, to test their apps. Not for users.. (yet )

I am aware of this.. But porting also has it's own malfunctions and problems. By porting an alpha release some of these problems can be solved before the stable release, was my thought
I am building a Ubuntu ROM now, as it was said before, don't expect much the ROM, as it is still being developed. But I am pretty sure you guys like me, just want a taste of it.

Ubuntu Touch is fabulous and it looks great.
I see you were working hardly last month in porting Ubuntu touch in SGN2.

Dev pl work on it, we have lots of hope on you.

Ubuntu touch seems to be pretty stable by now. I wonder if anyone is planning on porting it
From the article:
Here's what the latest build of Ubuntu Touch has to offer:
The OS is stable and not prone to crashing;
Phone calls and SMS are working well;
Proximity sensor automatically blanks the screen during calls when the phone is placed by user's ear;
Messaging menu works as intended, missed calls and messages are logged and can be responded to directly from the messaging menu;
Wi-Fi is working well;
Mobile data connections (3G, etc.) are now possible but still require some work;
Power management has been improved;
Camera (and flash) work well. Photos are saved to the gallery and there's a shortcut to the gallery from the camera app.
The browser has seen some improvements;
Phone orientation detection has been added and a number of the core apps now adjust their UI accordingly;
Adding contacts is now easier; and
Most of the dummy data has been removed.

Any news whether this project will be continued again? I know the OP sold his One X but you had told that EternityProject Team would most probably support it once it had become more stable...

I know many people out here would love to test the Ubuntu touch for sure!

Sorry but my One X got a black screen of death so no, I won't be continuing this project.
Dunno about EPRJ either... They already had it booting and lots of functionality but I haven't heard anything ever since.
If somebody volunteers to do test flashes on their HOX, I could try to make a build though

Hmmm this Ubuntu OS is starting to interest me more and more,seems verry nice so far,it still needs alot of work,but in the next years i think it will be a real alternative to Android.The only problem that Ubuntu OS will have is the same problem that Linux distro's have : the lack of apps compared with windows (or in our case Android and IOS).

hm i think it won't be long to port them also for the devs because android and ubuntu are based on the same platform (linux) so it wouldn't be sooo difficult to port...especially for the devs because they should know how to work on that...

It's not that hard,the only problem will be for the devs to want to make an app avaible on Ubuntu OS aswell.While smaller apps will be avaible for Ubuntu OS, bigger apps like Navigon,or games from Gameloft or stuff like that,i doubt that they will made them avaible for Ubuntu aswell.
If ubuntu touch gains some market share, we will see apps coming to it.
