Used (gio,GT-S56600) for assert. so if you got assert error while intall zip package you must change assert script on updater-script into:
Code:
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "gio" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "gio" || getprop("ro.product.board") == "gio" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "GT-S5660" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "GT-S5660" || getprop("ro.product.board") == "GT-S5660");
updater-script can be found inside zip (META-INF\com\google\android\)
Not every Installable zip can handle mount system, data & cache.
so you should mount it manually before flash them. mount menu can found on: Mount & Storage Menu

Just as a FYI, RFS is essentially used by the stock rom only. If you come across a rom thats based on stock, chances are it will use RFS. An example would be the ArpegGioMod rom by Darkshado. If you want the most versitality, go with what voetbalremco said.
its really simple, just follow the instructions its what helped me do it on 7.1 and now with upgrading to 7.2
Hi,
Thanks you for your answer, but there are always a thing that i don't understand... I come form a stock rom, so my filesystem is RFS, but to use cyanogenmod, if need ext4 no? So i have to format in ext4 no?
You need to flash ext4-formatter.zip when you come from stock.

My CM7 Install guide.
-Note: Install every zip named: "update.zip" and place on the sd.
1 Download latest and install ClockworkMod Recovery (signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4only.zip > ext4 internal partition, you should use cwm with ext4only). ( Place it on root of your sdcard. reboot to recovery mode. install this cwm from recovery)
link recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650
NOTE 1: From cwm-5.0.2.8 not need to choose right cwm for your rom (ext or rfs). CWM can used on ext4 & rfs filesystem. But if you want to format from rfs to ext4 (example: installing cyanogenMod rom from official samsung's rom) U need ext4formatter & flash it from cwm-5.0.2.8. ext4formatter.
1.5 reboot in recovery en factory reset etc. (And cache wipen. See note 2)
2 Flash Cyanogenmod 7 ROM :
Download and copy the latest CM7 ROM to SD Card
Reboot to Recovery Mode
Select install zip from sd card
Select choose zip from sd card
Select the new CM7 ROM
Select Yes - Install update
Wait till the Installation is finish
Select reboot system now
3 flash Cyanogenmod 7 rom update. Same way as stap 2.
NOTE 2:
It's not automatically wipe your data. if you want to install fresh rom, you must wipe data before install it! If you from stock / custom rom based on rfs filesystem, u must flash ext4-formatter.zip before flash CyanogenMod. link & instruction can fount on This Thread. otherwise you'll stuck on android logo because it cant mount rfs filesystem! have problem after upgrade from earlier cyanogenMod? you should wipe your data!!
4? ext4-formatter.zip (Flash from Recovery) Not needed if: signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4only.zip is flashed.
Sd card can be formated with a uttility form windows or from recovery.
4.5 Make a nandroid backup if you like! (Ore first a Tatanium backup of new progams installed)
5 Install & Enable a2sd Darktremor (Clean up sdcard a bit first if you like)
(This programs comes with CM7)
go to terminal emulator and write:
su
a2sd zipalign
a2sd cachesdreset.
if u want use a2sd extream (move data to sd-ext):
a2sd datasd
6 Install & Enable Simple2Ext (S2E)
(Personally i did skip step 5 and 6 for now.)
Gl
Last note: If you want to be able to install a other rom that uses a frs internal system partition it would be best to install a original rom. A rom made by Samsung (OTA its called i think) After that you're internal partition is on rfs format again.
I recently upgraded my phone from Stock 2.3.6 to Maclaw 4.0.4. I accidently flashed the ROM twice using CWM 5.0.2.6 without mounting my SD Card (/sdcard)(Not sure if it is important). Anyway, after Wiping data/Factory reset and wiping the Dalvik Cache, I rebooted my phone. After a successful reboot, It displayed a message saying "Encryption Unsuccessful" with a Reset button (which basically didn't do anything). What I did trying (Hopelessly) (using CWM) to remove this error was:
- Re flashing the ROM
- Formatting the sdcard and partitioning again
- Formatting everything (/system /data ....) and re-flashing
- Removing the battery (Hopelessly )
And with every step I re-wiped data and dalvik and rebooted with the same error.
I am thinking of restoring the stock rom and then re-installing this ROM but I'm not sure if it will be useful.
So any suggestions?

Where are you getting the ext4 formatter file from? If it wasn't designed or compiled specifically for the Galaxy Gio, it may not work. Have you tried the file found on this thread? It may be rare, however the ext4-formatter.zip file you downloaded could have become corrupted. If the file on the link above doesn't work, google 'Galaxy Gio ext4 Formatter' and some results should pop up.
Or instal phiexz cm7.2 there is his ext4 formatter inside :screwy:

Hello everyone,
I am new here on Desire,
So I S-OFFed my desire,Flashed Custom CWM recovery,
My problem is,
Everytime i try to install a custom ROM,it shows me an error as "Installation aborted : status 0"..i tried to wipe /data,/system/cache,doing factory reset etc.none of them they helps.it always shows me this error.any solution?
Do the ROMs you are trying to install require an sdcard partition. Most do, and you'll need one anyway to install several apps.
- Flash 4EXT recovery.img using fastboot (better recovery, makes good partitions for desire unlike CWM)
- Backup and partition your sdcard using 4EXT recovery (max 2GB ext4 partition, no swap)
- Check md5sum of ROM.zip, to make sure you didnt get a bad download
- Full wipe and flash ROM.zip

Yh so like eddie said u will need to partition ur sdcard for that rom. Theres a good guide in desire general "how to partition sdcard correctly" follow that guide and then u can flash roms. The reason is that the desire has bad/low memory so the sdext partition is needed, definitly for sense roms.
Hello guys,
I'm so upset. After several years with a stock GB rom (because I was scared of flashing), I've finally attempted to install a custom rom... And it didn't work as expected...
1) My phone was already rooted with DoomLord. for a long time.
2) I unlocked my bootloader and it worked fine. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662199)
3) I flashed the custom Kernel with Lupus GB v12 and it worked fine (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054512)
4) I tried to flash with a custom rom, but couldn't. Here's why :
I put my custom rom zip file on my sdcard through windows explorer. But when I go to recovery TWRP and try to find my zip file on the sdcard, I cannot select it, because TWRP is "unable to mound /sdcard". I don't know why. The sdcard is fine, it should be able to read it.
So I have access to TWRP and recovery, but no access to the sdcard, so no possibility to install my custom rom... And I have no rom installed as I wiped everything according to the tutorial...
And as I'm a noob and all the explanations I can find are wayyyyy too technical for me, I'm basically stuck without any phone.
I know that this forum has not been too lively lately, but PLEASE, if you've read this , help me...
Thanks a lot,
Regards,
I had the same issue with my Samsung galaxy s3 with twrp but what I did was I changed My custom recovery to philztouch and I did flash without any problem. Maybe try searching for a another custom recovery because I wasn't able to fix mount error problem with TWRP.

Hello Podiwadda,
Thanks for your answer.
So if I understand clearly, TWRP is my custom recovery that I got with Lupus kernel, right ?
So if I change my kernel, I change my custom recovery ?
Thus, I guess I should try DoomLord's DoomKernel in order to get another custom recovery ?
Shall I use Fastboot to flash with Doomkernel over Lupus kernel ? No risk in doing that ?
Sorry for these questions, but coming from Symbian which was quite easy and straightforward in terms of flashing, Android is sooooo complex and confusing (with root, bootloader, C-kernel, recovery, C-rom, etc...).
yes you flash the kernel in fastboot mode with flashtools or adb, usually there's no risk in that.
i would try to format the sd card directly from recovery. i think ntfs filesystem doesn't work though so check that also, format it to fat or ext from your pc..you're just a few step from booting
If you have Lupus GB12 kernel still flashed, you could try to flash rom from clockworkmod recovery. Just tap vol- when booting phone (TWRP is on vol+ button, right?)
SD card should be formated in fat32. NTFS or Ext partitiions doesn't work

Hey guys, thanks for your support.
1) I tried with TWRP (through Lupus kernel) -> Cannot mount sdcard.
2) I tried with CWM recovery (through Lupus kernel) -> Cannot mount sdcard.
3) I changed the sdcard and retried in FAT -> Cannot mount sdcard.
4) I formated the sdcard in FAT32 and retried -> Cannot mount sdcard.
So the problem is not the sdcard, and not the recovery mode apparently.
I noted one surprising thing however - CWM recovery told me that my phone was NOT rooted when I tried to exit. But I'm sure it was before (I've done it many months ago with Doomlord, in order to use Link2sd).
- So, could it be the reason why I cannot mount the sdcard ?
- Is it possible that unlocking my bootloader and flashing with Lupus kernel somehow unrooted my phone ???
- Anyway way to check if my phone is still rooted through TWRP or CWM recovery ?
Thanks again,
I can't understand why it is not working either, but you colud try to do things from start:
-flash .any .62+ firmware with flashtool (return to stock)
-boot phone into that stock firmware and check is sdcard is recognized (format if needed)
-check if computer see sdcard (in storage (MSC) mode, not in MTP mode)
-copy your rom to sdcard (if you formated again sdcard)
-power off, enter in fastboot mode and flash Lupus GB12 kernel (with flashtool or any other ways you know)
-disconnect usb, power on and enter recovery (whatever you preffer more)
-delete system and data
-flash rom from sdcard
-reboot
PS:
Ignore CWM warning about root. It a feature for roms for locked bootloader (lupus kernel will root any rom installed). It is just few files in /system folder, so if there is no rom (because /system is deleted or it is unrooted stock rom) it will ask to root or not
PS2: maybe to try with external micro scdard reader in PC?
PS3: try another sdcard?
PS4: I must ask... You do have PHYSICAL sdcard insterted? right? Because x-play don't use emulated sdcard... (blessing of gingerbread )

-flash .any .62+ firmware with flashtool (return to stock) => Ok with R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62__1253-4437_.ftf through Flashtool
-boot phone into that stock firmware and check is sdcard is recognized (format if needed) => Yes it is recognized.
-check if computer see sdcard (in storage (MSC) mode, not in MTP mode) => Yes computer sees sdcard through MSC usb mode.
-copy your rom to sdcard (if you formated again sdcard) => Ok.
-power off, enter in fastboot mode and flash Lupus GB12 kernel (with flashtool or any other ways you know) => Ok with LuPuS_zeus_GingerBreadv12-full.IMG through fastboot and ADB package.
-disconnect usb, power on and enter recovery (whatever you preffer more) => Nok : I can enter TWRP recovery, but sdcard is still not recognized.
One interesting point though, sdcard IS recognized when I boot my phone into that stock firmware WITH Lupus kernel.
Thus, sdcard is not mounted / recognized ONLY when in recovery mode.
PS : ok.
PS2 : my sdcard is recognized with external micro scdard reader. that's how I put my C- Rom initially.
PS3 : I tried with 2 sd cards : one Nokia with 2gb in FAT then in FAT32. The other one Lexar 32gb in FAT32 (+ a partition in Ext4 for link2sd).
PS4 : yes, yes, physical sdcard. I wouldn't even know how to emulate a sdcard !
Seems that I'm stuck with stock GB then. But I'm happy my phone is not bricked and could be flashed with Flashtool. What can I do ?
- I was thinking about flashing with LuPuS_zeus_GingerBreadv12-full directly through Flashtool (and not from sdcard through recovery) if it's possible (but I need a .ftf file), hoping that the sdcard with then be recognized by the C-Rom.
- Otherwise, maybe trying with another kernel, like DoomLord's DoomKernel, or maybe even LuPuS_zeus_GingerBreadv12.5-ram.img (but I'd like to keep the 720p ability...).
Thanks for your advices !
It's more like wild guess then advice, but try:
-Delete any ext partitions on sdcard(s) and leave only fat32/fat
-Try with sideload in twrp recovery to flash rom (as i recall, it does not need sdcard) .

Sry, i am out of ideas what could be wrong.
You could try flashing other kernels and see if any of them can access sdcar (you only need recovery) . You can easily flash bach lupus gb kernel oncev you are able to flash rom.

Thanks a lot Bakisha for your continuous support and advices.
Ah ! Ah ! Ah ! I've found the problem ! I tried with a THIRD sdcard and it worked !
With just a noname / nobrand 8gb microSD HC class 2.......... When a Lexar and Nokia sdcard failed...
So I flashed NXT rom thanks to CMW recovery (surprisingly, TWRP failed to flash my rom...).
So now I have my new NXT rom flashed and perfectly working, except that.......... It does not recognise my 32gb sdcard ((
So I believe Lupus kernel does not like my Lexar 32gb sdcard :-/ As it was working perfectly with the stock kernel and rom.
To confirm this theory, I will try another kernel.
1) In order to try another kernel, I just flash over with Fastboot and ADB Package ?
2) Which one offers similar performances to Lupus ? Do you have any suggestion ?
Again, Thanks a lot !

1) In order to try another kernel, I just flash over with Fastboot and ADB Package ?
2) Which one offers similar performances to Lupus ? Do you have any suggestion ?
Again, Thanks a lot !

Just use flashtool, it's easisest (with few clicks), but yeah, if partitiion size is same, just flash over existing kernel.
You could try other kernel, just keep in mind that you'll need to wipe system and data everytime kernels have different partitions size.
Doomlord's kernel is good, but lupus is newer one. Can't say which is better, it's a matter of opinion.
Or try extreme kernel (try to find links in general section)
Or try kernels at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2637637
I am using 64GB card, so it's not about size (also cheap chinese card)
Have fun

Hi Bakisha,
So I tried to flash with Doomlord's kernel - same problem, sdcard is not recognized...
- So basically, with stock kernel and stock rom, no problem.
- With C-kernel and C-rom, sdcard is not recognized.
Now what I did is put my 32gb sdcard in my Symbian powered Nokia 808, just to check.
Interestingly, the Symbian OS told me that it cannot use this sdcard, because it is encrypted, and it is not able to remove the encryption because it does not have the key...
So here's my noob guess : somehow, my sdcard was encrypted when I was in stock GB rom.
As I totally wiped system and data in order to flash C-kernel and C-Rom, I've lost this bloody key.
So my sdcard is still encrypted and the key is lost, which would explain why it cannot be used by my flashed Xplay and my Symbian 808... It would also explain why other sdcards work properly with my flashed Xplay, while this one doesn't.
- Does that sound relevant to you ?
- Do you know how to remove the encryption for this card without the key ?
Again, thanks in advance !

Hello Bakisha,
Thanks a LOT for your help and patience.
I've finally found a solution to my problem.
I'm pretty sure the problem was the sdcard's android encryption form the beggining.
Here's what I did to solve it :
- Download MiniTool partition wizard free.
- Wipe entirely your sdcard (fill sectors with zero & one).
- Once done, format your sdcard in FAT32 through Minitool partition wizard.
- Then, format in FAT32 with Windows explorer (right click on sdcard, then format).
- (OPTIONAL) Then, go back to Minitool partition wizard and create your Ext partition for Link2sd.
After all this, my sdcard was finally recognized by Lupus kernel and the C-Rom.
Hope it will help others.

Hello guys,
I'm so upset.
Thanks a lot,
Regards,
