And i don't know if i have to install ext4-formatter.zip or not?

Just as a FYI, RFS is essentially used by the stock rom only. If you come across a rom thats based on stock, chances are it will use RFS. An example would be the ArpegGioMod rom by Darkshado. If you want the most versitality, go with what voetbalremco said.
its really simple, just follow the instructions its what helped me do it on 7.1 and now with upgrading to 7.2
Hi,
Thanks you for your answer, but there are always a thing that i don't understand... I come form a stock rom, so my filesystem is RFS, but to use cyanogenmod, if need ext4 no? So i have to format in ext4 no?
You need to flash ext4-formatter.zip when you come from stock.

ok, thanks you very much
My CM7 Install guide.
-Note: Install every zip named: "update.zip" and place on the sd.
1 Download latest and install ClockworkMod Recovery (signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4only.zip > ext4 internal partition, you should use cwm with ext4only). ( Place it on root of your sdcard. reboot to recovery mode. install this cwm from recovery)
link recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650
NOTE 1: From cwm-5.0.2.8 not need to choose right cwm for your rom (ext or rfs). CWM can used on ext4 & rfs filesystem. But if you want to format from rfs to ext4 (example: installing cyanogenMod rom from official samsung's rom) U need ext4formatter & flash it from cwm-5.0.2.8. ext4formatter.
1.5 reboot in recovery en factory reset etc. (And cache wipen. See note 2)
2 Flash Cyanogenmod 7 ROM :
Download and copy the latest CM7 ROM to SD Card
Reboot to Recovery Mode
Select install zip from sd card
Select choose zip from sd card
Select the new CM7 ROM
Select Yes - Install update
Wait till the Installation is finish
Select reboot system now
3 flash Cyanogenmod 7 rom update. Same way as stap 2.
NOTE 2:
It's not automatically wipe your data. if you want to install fresh rom, you must wipe data before install it! If you from stock / custom rom based on rfs filesystem, u must flash ext4-formatter.zip before flash CyanogenMod. link & instruction can fount on This Thread. otherwise you'll stuck on android logo because it cant mount rfs filesystem! have problem after upgrade from earlier cyanogenMod? you should wipe your data!!
4? ext4-formatter.zip (Flash from Recovery) Not needed if: signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4only.zip is flashed.
Sd card can be formated with a uttility form windows or from recovery.
4.5 Make a nandroid backup if you like! (Ore first a Tatanium backup of new progams installed)
5 Install & Enable a2sd Darktremor (Clean up sdcard a bit first if you like)
(This programs comes with CM7)
go to terminal emulator and write:
su
a2sd zipalign
a2sd cachesdreset.
if u want use a2sd extream (move data to sd-ext):
a2sd datasd
6 Install & Enable Simple2Ext (S2E)
(Personally i did skip step 5 and 6 for now.)
Gl
Last note: If you want to be able to install a other rom that uses a frs internal system partition it would be best to install a original rom. A rom made by Samsung (OTA its called i think) After that you're internal partition is on rfs format again.

Do your restore settings even if you use an aosp rom when coming from sense rom or reverse? Partition your sd card directly in recovery or with gparted (both primary). Never use other tools, it seems they cause problems.
I use gParted for my SD Card EXT4- I Restore always Nothing. If i install a new Rom, i fill all manuel I have Time and Emails/SMS ... dont need it ^^
In which order do you create partitions? Are they both set to primary?

Hi guys,
i've a Galaxy Gio with Android 2.3.5 and GioPro 1.4 and i'd like to update the last beta 5 of CM9.
Does anyone know how to install it?
I read the Maclaw post but i'm not sure if i need to install the clockworkod 2 for CM9!
Thank you all!
Here's some help:
1. Yes, you have to get the clockworkmod recovery, download it, and place it on your sdcard.
2. power off your phone.
3. Power on holding these buttons: power + home.
4. you should be in recovery, choose apply update from sdcard and navigate to px-cwmv2 (or whatever it is called)
5. After install, choose "reboot system now" You should now be in clockworkmod.
6. choose "install zip from sdcard" Navigate to the downloaded cm9 (called cm-giobeta5)
7. Install it.
8. Wipe data and reboot. (when it boots it will appear as a black screen, ignore that and wait for the bootanimation)
9. Enjoy Galaxyics
I would also like to install cyanogen mod 9 for my gio, and i sucessfully installed that special clockwork recovery mod that i supposedly need. I did that and now when i boot into it, it says "E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log" and "E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log". I didnt have this warning on Clockwork recovery mod 5.0.2.7 ???

Okay i will! Does doing that fix the error i am getting? also Whats a good size to partition (i only have a 2gb card for now). I tried flashing Cyanogen Mod 9 yesterday with the regular clockwork recovery (oops) and got my gio bootlooping . I freaked out, not gonna lie. But then i flashed CM7 and it worked So i might flash to Cyanogenmod 9 later, i kinda like this Cm7!
Also, when i flashed cm7, it changed my minimum CPU clock frequecy to 128 from 254. It also down clocked from 800 max to 784. but it wont let me clock back up, or overclock! the settings wont apply after i reboot! Do you have an idea for this?

The second partition is optional.
But if u wanna use it, make sure u create ext4 as a primary.
Then u can use s2e, app2sd pro, a2sd DT etc.

Hi. I'm about to install a new rom on my HTC Desire, and the developer says i need to partition my SD card like this :
*******************
But the first thing you'll have to do is repartitioning your sd card (I suggest 4ext or you can use clockworkmod recovery) like this:
1st partition fat32 xyMB
2nd partition - sd-ext - ext4 - 768MB (the 1st ext that recovery will ask you)
3rd partition - sd-ext2 - ext4 - 256MB (the 2nd ext that recovery will ask you)
NO SWAP!!!
You can use different values for sd-ext partitions, but ext proportion HAS TO BE 3:1 (like my suggestion 768:256)!!!
*******************
I flashed Clockworkmod recovery and i dont have an option in there to create 768 size partition and i really dont know how to create 2 ext4 partitions. So how do i do it ? I would really be greatful for any help here. Thank you.
4EXT Recovery Touch should be your recovery (check my sig).
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
All you need to do is to
1. Download and install 4EXT Recovery Updater, and launch it.
2. It will ask for root access, which you must grant.
3. After granting it root access you can use it to download and flash 4EXT Recovery. You must have an internet connection for this.
4. The recovery updater app will now download 4EXT Recovery and flash it on your device, replacing the older CWM Recovery you have currently, it's that simple.
there you will find the option to create 2 ext partitions.
guess i have to install some rom first so i can get 4ext, i couldn't find an image file to flash it otherwise. On it now. Thanks.

Thank you all, you've been very helpful. I've flashed 4ext and pratitioned the SD card, my phone took ages to start, so finally i've installed the rom, gonna try it out now. Thank you all again ! Cheers.
Glad to know that your problem is solved. enjoy your new rom.
I recently upgraded my phone from Stock 2.3.6 to Maclaw 4.0.4. I accidently flashed the ROM twice using CWM 5.0.2.6 without mounting my SD Card (/sdcard)(Not sure if it is important). Anyway, after Wiping data/Factory reset and wiping the Dalvik Cache, I rebooted my phone. After a successful reboot, It displayed a message saying "Encryption Unsuccessful" with a Reset button (which basically didn't do anything). What I did trying (Hopelessly) (using CWM) to remove this error was:
- Re flashing the ROM
- Formatting the sdcard and partitioning again
- Formatting everything (/system /data ....) and re-flashing
- Removing the battery (Hopelessly )
And with every step I re-wiped data and dalvik and rebooted with the same error.
I am thinking of restoring the stock rom and then re-installing this ROM but I'm not sure if it will be useful.
So any suggestions?

Where are you getting the ext4 formatter file from? If it wasn't designed or compiled specifically for the Galaxy Gio, it may not work. Have you tried the file found on this thread? It may be rare, however the ext4-formatter.zip file you downloaded could have become corrupted. If the file on the link above doesn't work, google 'Galaxy Gio ext4 Formatter' and some results should pop up.
Or instal phiexz cm7.2 there is his ext4 formatter inside :screwy:

Hello everyone,
I am new here on Desire,
So I S-OFFed my desire,Flashed Custom CWM recovery,
My problem is,
Everytime i try to install a custom ROM,it shows me an error as "Installation aborted : status 0"..i tried to wipe /data,/system/cache,doing factory reset etc.none of them they helps.it always shows me this error.any solution?
Do the ROMs you are trying to install require an sdcard partition. Most do, and you'll need one anyway to install several apps.
- Flash 4EXT recovery.img using fastboot (better recovery, makes good partitions for desire unlike CWM)
- Backup and partition your sdcard using 4EXT recovery (max 2GB ext4 partition, no swap)
- Check md5sum of ROM.zip, to make sure you didnt get a bad download
- Full wipe and flash ROM.zip

Yh so like eddie said u will need to partition ur sdcard for that rom. Theres a good guide in desire general "how to partition sdcard correctly" follow that guide and then u can flash roms. The reason is that the desire has bad/low memory so the sdext partition is needed, definitly for sense roms.
