[Q] Case Mod for Nexus 7 2 Help - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I've been thinking about a case mod that I would really like to do, but I need a little help . If you have ever seen the iPhone mod where the apple logo lights up, then you will have some understanding of what I want to do. I have an idea what I'm going to do, and here's what ive got so far. Removing NFC and charging coil, dremeling out the lettering, put a diffuser over the letters, put led strips over the edges of the diffuser, and finally, relocating the NFC pad and coil to the back of the battery. But my question is, where do I connect the LEDs to so they turn on when the screen is on? P.S. sorry about the long read

Electric charge in the case while charging

Hi all,
I put my desire onto charge and as I picked it up and touched the outer casing I could feel this electric charge vibration on my skin, you can clearly feel it as you run your finger along the side of the metal part of the case.
What I want to know is.. Is this normal for this kind of phone or I have a dodgy one where something is touching something it's not supposed to be?
I had a laptop once that did the same, It had a metal lid.. A portege 3110 years ago and I assumed it was faulty.
I have the same thing, more so on the left side. Thought maybe everyone had it, be weird if they dont
It's perfectly normal. I would have thought that having a laptop that does the same would have confirmed that.

Yeh I have the same, it's perfectly fine
Even my iPod Classic does the same, had it for 3 years and it's still going strong.
But yeh I wouldn't worry about it, tbh I get turned on from the electric charge from my BEAST
I am super sensitive to things like this, It actualy makes it difficult for me to use the device while plugged into the charger. I stuck my multi meter on it to check and I get a high reading from the outer part of the case that surrounds the screen, even with the phone off charge and just sitting on the table I can get a decent reading.. Is there a design fault with this phone that's causing it to leak charge into the case?
I've checked my old N95, O2 Zest & Moto Droid for the same issue, I thought the droid would be the same since it has metal casing too but it's not.
Are you 100% sure this is normal? And what are the side effects of being continualy pumped with current while using your phone plugged in?
no, you should not be getting charge in the case....it does sound to me like you have a problem.
Mine has no such feeling when charging.
I can't imagine there's any dodgy side effects, it's only 5v at 1A. that's less than sticking a 9v battery on your tongue, but it's still not right i don;t think.
If you do send it back to HTC, get someone to take a picture of you and the multi-meter clearly showing the charge on the case. it's just an extra bit of evidence in your favour.
I don't have any such problems.

For those of you that can not feel this, try the following.
When the device is being charged, very lightly run your finger along the "metel" edge part of the screen.
Its the same effect that i have when in bed with an electric blanket on and i lightly touch the brick wall!
On another note, there is no "tingle" when charging from from a pc.
Same problem here.
When i charge it on my Acer laptop with Windows or Linux, everything is ok. Today i connected it to my EEEPC with Linux on it, and after the battery was approx. 90% charged again, it started to "wobble" when you touched it. Maybe it was there before, dunno ...
I can feel it on the screen and on the bezel. If i hold the phone with 2 hands, i can't feel it. And yes, i'm very sensitive to electrical currents
I don't think it's "fine" ...
I have the same problem, just assumed it was a faulty charger as my sisters charger, and my car charger don't replicate it.

[Q] Amber light stays on

for some reason the amber charging light doesnt seem to go away, ive done multiple hard resets and still nothing.i dont mind the light its just that it drains my battery, and i dont rally like having to plug my phone up every 6hours.
i have the oem charger, and battery..if that helps
my phone has cosmetic damage all over, its overheated 1 time before to the point of shutting itself down.(XDA-WifiSharing)
my main question is can i deactivate in anyway other than ripping the phone apart and desoldering the damn thing,or using up my insurance claim.warranty does not cover my Tp2 due to a crack close to the bottom mic hole.
ive read about people doing a regedit on other model htc's,can we do that on ours ?
(Edit)
after a look through the archives it seems that if your charger ports moves around a little, its because of a defect on our phones.these were not designed to be rugid, and nothing can be done unless your skilled with a soldering iron....i miss the the charger port doors, they were a hassle at times."sigh"oh well

Bottom Buttons Don't Light On

Hey guys the Home, Menu, Back, and Search capacitive buttons on the bottom of the phone don't turn on at all. I cover the sensor on the front and nothing.
I have replace the front screen cause it crack and there was 4 little clear plastic things behind the buttons and I threw them away not knowing if I needed them or not, but I don't remember if the screen was giving that problem even before, anyway to check or fix this?
This may or may not help but some kernals will disable the button lights, I didn't like not having them lit up even if it helps with battery life.
Well I set up my friends Evo the exact same way as I set up mine and his lights are working.
another dumb question, but did you flash that SoL kernel? That kernel disables the lights on the buttons.
i did see your sig, but sometimes people don't update that.
is there a way to make it so the lights stay on when the screen is on?
it was the 4 little fingered thing that you threw away, they carry the light up from the board. only by replacing them will you get your lights back.
Well found one gotta keep searching for the others LOL wish me luck.

[Q] HELP! F180 Not booting/Red LED blinking problem

Hi mates. I have a weird problem. Just last night I am restoring a Nandroid Backup of VANIR ROM for geehrc, which DONT have a problem with my phone. When suddenly after booting and showing the lockscreen, the phone becomes unresponsive and after a few seconds, turns off. After that, It wont boot, even fastboot or recovery wont show up. Even tried the hard reset combo, but to no avail. Download mode works, but I have not tried to flash KDZ yet. Also when I plug in the charger, LG logo shows up then a blank grayish screen, then a battery icon with charging animation, plus a label that says 0% charging. I leave it for about 4 hours, thinking that the phone might just depleted the battery. But still it wont turn on. When I turn it on while plugged in, the LED blinks in red color. The blinking is continuous. What seems to be the problem? Is it hardware or software issue? Please help me guys! :crying:
Any help mates?
Im really loosing my hope reviving my device. Tried different methods from the web. I just flashed KDZ, but the phone keeps flashing the LG logo when plugged in. When I unplug the charger, and power on the phone, nothing happens! Damn. Can anyone give an insight on what might cause the problem? Thanks in advance!
Sorry to hear about your troubles! Honestly, I have no idea what could have caused this, but if I had the same issue, and nothing worked as you described, I would probably crack the phone open, disconnect the battery and just let it sit for a day or so. Then reconnect it, and try powering up again (might need to charge it first). Who knows whether it helps or not, but it definitely wouldn't hurt, and you don't seem to have a lot of options right now...
It's interesting that the download mode still works. The common wisdom says that you should be good after flashing stock KDZ, but your experience shows otherwise...
i've experienced it before. It happen due to your battery is out of charge. What i do is, i open the case, pullout battery and install back.
After that i charge the phone. And voila...charge is on..and my hp on too. :good:

Thanks for your feedback! It's really weird. I have flashed 3 KDZ's already. From Original F180K to E975. Nothing. Other option I have aside cracking it open is returning it to the seller fro check up. But that's the last resort. I suspect something got "unglued" while I am using it. Since the device got really hot before it happened.

Will definitely try this. Thanks for the advice. How long should I remove the battery?
I just removed for a second and put it back. Most probably due to battery not fit. So i just retighten it.

Should you go ahead with it, and in case you've never opened an OG before, just a little advice... It's not difficult, but you need to watch for a couple of things:
1. Make sure you remove the SIM tray BEFORE removing the back cover.
2. Start opening it from the bottom (after removing two screws), and work your way along the sides to the top. When putting it back together, go in reverse (top to bottom).
3. Be careful around the SIM slot and the buttons when prying the cover open -- it's easy to break a thin "bridge" on the side of the cover. Just don't push on those areas.
4. When putting the cover back on, it might be a bit tricky to hold power and volume buttons in position. The easy trick is to use a piece of scotch tape on the outside, so they don't fall in.
Good luck!

I wouldn't suggest actually removing the battery, unless you absolutely have to. It's mounted by a double-sided adhesive tape, so taking it out is a bit tricky. My idea was just to disconnect it. You need to undo two screws that secure the power connector, right below the camera flash. The screws are under the plastic tape, just peel it off. When you remove those screws, carefully pull the connector up. That's it. Check the contacts for any signs of damage or corrosion, and clean up as needed. When reconnecting it, push firmly to make sure it sits properly.

Leave in direct sun light for 1 hrs.
Clean battery pin with soft brush.
Charge battry manualy by Desktop charger about 2 to 3 hrs.
Put battery back in phone and start charging.
It will done Insha ALLAH.

I broke the sticky part of my official wireless charger

Turns out I was gonna move my wireless charger to another desk I bought , and I knew that you have to hold it slowly on one of the corners and start pulling it , I already did it once, a couple of days after I bought it but this time it was GLUED to the table, no matter how I did it it wouldn't come off, so in the end I had to apply more force and bam , the sticky band broke :/ it was GLUED to the table, so what can I do know? I have a hard time believing they will replace my charger, they will say I broke like a crazy animal, maybe I can replace the sticky part myself or send it it to google , maybe they can fix it?
Has any of you had a similar experience? :crying:
