Hey guys the Home, Menu, Back, and Search capacitive buttons on the bottom of the phone don't turn on at all. I cover the sensor on the front and nothing.
I have replace the front screen cause it crack and there was 4 little clear plastic things behind the buttons and I threw them away not knowing if I needed them or not, but I don't remember if the screen was giving that problem even before, anyway to check or fix this?
This may or may not help but some kernals will disable the button lights, I didn't like not having them lit up even if it helps with battery life.
Well I set up my friends Evo the exact same way as I set up mine and his lights are working.
another dumb question, but did you flash that SoL kernel? That kernel disables the lights on the buttons.
i did see your sig, but sometimes people don't update that.
is there a way to make it so the lights stay on when the screen is on?
it was the 4 little fingered thing that you threw away, they carry the light up from the board. only by replacing them will you get your lights back.
Well found one gotta keep searching for the others LOL wish me luck.

Ugh only found 2, does anyone know where I might be able to buy that part somewhere online?

So whenever I talk to my wife she always ends up hitting buttons on the screen. (mute, speaker, etc) I told her that the screen should automatically turn off and that maybe something was wrong with her device. As soon as I got home I tested it and it worked just fine. I couldn't get it to happen, light sensor was very responsive.
Somehow she manages to hit buttons and I have no idea how. I covered up the light sensor and tried hitting every button/screen area and nothing happened.
Has anyone else experienced this before? Is there something I can settings/mods wise to help?

Another funny thing is she said her boss at work has the same problem (female) and her husband has no issue.... Ha! I don't think they have Evos though.
my wife was having the same problem and we narrowed it down to her hair causing interference with the screen sensing that her face was against it. dont know if that makes sense but seemed logical to us and now that she tries to be aware of it and move her hair out of the way the problem doesnt seem to exist. hope this helps.

Weird! Does the screen actually turn on then? I should watch the screen next time she makes a call on it.
yeah the screen was turning on while she was using it. i think whenever she would basically readjust the phone against her head it would happen if the hair would cause interference...again i'm not claiming this is some scientific answer but its what we found seemed to be causing issues for her

Yep, Yep. My wife has the same issue but I've never had a problem. I'm going to show her this thread so that at least she knows it's not just her. lol.

How would the earrings affect it?
I think it's actually the proximity sensor being highly in tune to how close it needs to be to the ear/face. It takes very little movement of the phone during a call to trigger the sensor and turn the screen back on. They probably don't even realize they're moving the phone as much as they are.

During a call, I pulled the phone away, moved it around, etc and watched for screen to come one. It did not come on easily. I don't get it.
I need to watch her during a call and test some things.
My sis has the same issues with the moment, and I tried it out and it was fine. She does seem to use it outside her hair and does have a lot of earrings. Though this is the Moment, it still runs android and has the sensors. I'll let her know and see if she'll enjoy her phone again lol.

Still not sure what the issue/solution even is.
She picked up my phone last night and accidentally hung up on the person during the call! I didn't get a chance to see what happened...
She's starting to hate these phones. I need a solution.
Not a joke...but are these ladies blonds? At start of thread I was thinking hair color or earrings too. But earrings shouldn't impact the sensor as it is up top of phone and earrings would be down toward the screen.
But...if their hair was very light color...and they had phone only loosely pressed to head, I could 'guess' that the hair had enough light reflecting through it to set off the sensor.
Another thing to check on the earring side....what part of phone contacts first...do earrings hit the screen before head covers up the sensor?
My wife had dark brown hair :x
My wife too. Dark brown hair. With and without earrings. Swapped out one device, same problem. She even made it happen on mine.
I have seen it get in a mode where the proximity sensor seems to get reversed. Near head, screen on, away from head screen off. A button gets pushed at some point and then when the screen is on you can't un-mute, un-speaker, or answer a returned call from the one she just hung up on.
I think we are going to have to get her a different phone
I have the same issue but it only seems to come up with AOSP ROM's (Cyanogen & UD)
If I call Sprint and hit the prompts followed by putting the phone to my ear it presses other numbers. I think there is a delay in the proximity sensor that's causing this. I don't have long hair and my face is clean shaved so it's not that.
If I go to show someone that when everything works perfect. It's like when you call tech support for Dell, Netgear, etc. It works when you're on the phone with them and when you get off it doesn't.
I've noticed this in the past. If you are talking on the phone and you cant it just a little bit away from your ear, towards your face, you can see the backlight come back on. Also, hair can carry a static charge. So if your ladies cant the phone and the screen turns on, their hair could trigger a button press.
so i think one of my LED lights died... b/c when i turn on my flashlight only one of them turns one... and the one that stays on seem to flicker sometimes... anyone know anything about this?
so update:... apparently the led's can become loose if you have this problem also, press down onthe leds with a little bit of force and it will start working perfectly again
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-HTC-Evo-4G-Dual-LED-Flash/3066/4
if u look the design is sorta flawwed, the connection can become bad over time.. since its only pressure
hey so has anyone else had this problem? it happened again and i had to push on the LED to get it to turn on again...
Why not just try and flash it back to stock (or brick it lol) and warranty it?

i mean im just curious on the problem, since it seems like a design flaw, i like mine no screen seperations and cracked power button so far... and novatek screen, i love my evo i dont feel like trading it for one that is diff, but i dunno i might end up having to ... if i barely push it it just turns back on... and so far it hasnt happened agian...
So, the worst happened. My one year old (OLED) Desire got pile-drived hard into the concrete. Needless to say the screen smashed (the panel itself, not the covering glass/plastic) and now it wont respond to power on or charging. I know my chances of HTC repair are very small, so what can I do myself? There are a few "for spares" kicking around on eBay, is it possible I could just swap the screens out and it'll work?
I'm pretty desperate right now, can anyone give any advice? please?
And before the haters hate with "you shouldn't have dropped it", id like to point out it wasn't my fault.

Hmm swapping out the screen is quite easy IIRC you just need to make sure you get if from a OLED not AMOLED desire (although I remember reading a thread about swapping them so you could go AMOLED if you find the thread).
However you also say if doesn't power on or respond? This is worrying, fixing a screen is one thing but this.... Have you tried ringing it after turning it on just to confirm it does not turn on?
Good luck anyway, hope you can get if fixed for minimum cost!
EDIT: Here's that thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768535
Thanks for that. No I haven't tried ringing it, but surely no vibrate + no LED + no screen output means its really not powering on.

if the screen is smashed then its going to be hard to see if its booting any thing, as for no vibrate that might mean one of the motors for the vibrate has been knocked out of its place and jammed so it cant vibrate. I must admit if it was that bad of a drop then dont hold much hope for it
Yeah, calling does nothing. It really is dead isn't it Anything likely the cause? like the phone purposely wont boot if a specific part is broken, or is like the mobo probably dead?
Hey guys how are you!
So my beloved evo's lcd broke and i just replaced it today. The strangest thing is happening.. the screen turns on fine, but once I turn it off, it wont turn back on. The three buttons at the bottom light up and the screen, i can tell, turns on. But I cant see the UI. It is definitely not a software issue and I have tried reseating the ribbon cable multiple times. What the hell? Is my evo too old? only way i can make it work is with a reboot which is super annoying.
I have one with a shattered screen I will be replacing soon. If my memory serves me correctly there are several different types of ribbon sizes. Hopefully that is not your issue. I would suggest using a bright light and looking into the female receptacle (no dirty jokes please) and make sure that nothing is bent or twisted. Also check cable that none of the connections are not chipped.
Not sure if this will help but it is worth a shot. Other than that I am not sure what could be wrong.
Peace,
Love, and
Happiness
Edit: well fine honda but just one and you have to promise that it will be clean

The screen turns on fine. Its something I've never seen or heard about.
Well what caused the problem in the first place? Did ir just stop working or was it an innocent victim lacking the proper protective coverings?
Either way there could be more hardware problems than your screen. Give this a try and tell me what happens. Plug your phone into the charger, if nothing happens with the screen try connecting to your pc, and if still nothing try a rom that has the volume keys to wake aokp/cm are a couple that I know have that option.
If that doesn't work I will see what else I can think of.

of course if you can't find the receptacle, you'll want to take hold of the dongle and have it cough a couple of times...let us know the outcome, please!
But seriously, so is this what happens?
You turn on the device. Powers up ok. You can see the screen. Then what? How long till it disappears? Are you doing anything when this happens? Can you unlock the phone and see the desktop? How do you know the screen turns on fine? What exactly is giving you this impression?
Sounds to me like another broken lcd. Do you have another phone you can swap out the mainboard and help isolate the problem: mainboard or lcd/digitizer/connectors.

It powers up fine and then as soon as the screen turns off (either manually by me or by timeout), it will not turn back on. The screen powers up, the lights at the bottom turns on but its a very dark grey screen. And as you said, isolating the problem would be easy if I had another mother board. I have another one with a wide flex cable IDK if should request a replacement or if i should get a more expensive, OEM LCD.
Ok questions for you.
Stock/rooted
S-on / off
Rom/kernel combo
Min/max governor
Oc/Uv
Everything thing else works
Power button (I say yes)
Volume +/-
All 4 screen buttons
All points of screen responsive
If your on a rom that supports volume wake try it
Auto brightness off/on

I did my research, man. Literally tried everything. Its not software, no setting can fix it.
Think it could just be an issue with waking? The lights coming on but just a dark gray screen has happened to me with several ROMs. Bumping up the minimum CPU speed a notch or 2 usually solves it.
I asked the seller and he said it is not oem. Do you guys think it makes a difference and if I should suck it up and buy OEM?

That's what I though at first. Hours of tweaking and research and I figured it cant be a software issue.
Hi everyone.
So Ive been having problems with my glide keyboard being loose. everything else was working fine tho. today it completely fell off, only the screen cable/ribbon were holding the two pieces together. so i decided to take apart the back panel and reattach the keyboard. a few screws to take take out and put in. a simple fix right? wrong! after finding the screws to replace the missing ones that caused the keyboard to fall away, and putting everything back in place... THE SCREEN WOULDNT TURN ON! the phone did light up and vibrate but the screen is completely not alive. i took everything apart again and even double checked the screen connection, tried again and lo, the screen still wasnt working...
i dont know what to do....is there a possibility that i damaged the ribbon, or i need to reset something... what could be wrong?
been searching for fixes all day and came up with nothing... any help would be appreciated :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
ribbon
Try to change the ribbon if it's not that expensive. Maybe because of the stress on it, it went bad.
The ribbon cable is around 60$ us, i broke mine trying to replace my ear speaker

What was the result? I have the same issue and replaced both screen and ribbon but the display does not light. Only the lower shortcut lights up (home, search, back etc.).
