Hi guys so I'm helping my friend's Note 2 to manually update it to KK via kies cause OTA is still not available when checking on 'Check for updates' (Yeah it's over a month now and the update is still not there! freaky sam****)
So our problem is the kies dashboard just displays 'Latest firmware' for her device and we cannot see any other option to check updates for KK on kies, that is just stupid :/ Her Note 2 is on JB 4.3, so my question is, is there any possible way on how to get rid of that 'Latest firmware' label on her device via Samsung Kies to be able to get the latest update?
If you're going to say about ODIN or any geeky things to do, she won't allow it lol, she's sick of that, she just wants to upgrade it manually over the kies.
Probably her phone region is on a place that doesn't have the update yet.. aaand of course you cannot change that unless you use Odin.

Only France and India got it via Kies or OTA. So if her phone ain't from those regions she got to wait. As you said she won't allow Odin so tell her to calm down and enjoy 4.3 lol

And no, no OEM does that; but that doesn't mean they shouldn't! Over a month now, and still barely rolled out anywhere officially.
At this rate, it'll take them a year to roll out everywhere.

First of all, thanks guys for giving me time answering my stupid question lol, I've ran out of thanks and I promise I'll give you thanks back later!
So yeah why the fvck did samsht announced that they would be releasing the 4.4.2 update so early as last month if they can't even roll out as soon as possible? that's insane it's almost a month now and the update is not even rolling out here (btw I live in Manila, Ph)
I agree with @FloatingFatMan, they should have not told people what the REAL thing of the release schedule was :silly: talking about France and India, omfg lol we can now really foretell the future that it would probably take them for years to completely release the update world wide :silly: Google is preparing to release the 4.4.3 update and samsht is still smoking weeds to think about the update I wonder what will my friend think about this lol. I actually told her that rooting is the best thing that would happen on her device, encouraging her to flash CM11 on it but she's sick of these things haha, she's scared of bricking her phone lol but I told her that I'm the one that will gonna guide her doing those stuff, but it all ended up saying NO ahaha.

Well check the update OTA or via kies since you are in Manila.
Talking about 4.4.3 by Google I doubt it would bring anything major to phones except bug fixes that plagued the Nexus devices. The more bigger announcement would be at the Google I/O when we might hear about Android 4.5 or 5 ,who knows and this might be the very last update we would get from Samsung/Google judging by the 2 year policy of Google to support devices

Already tried that for a few times, still no response :| we've actually did some dumb shts on her phone like clearing the 'google services framework' (which is a workaround forcing OTA update to receive on Nexus phones) and we end up screwing her phone lol, still not working :silly:
Yeah I agree, it's almost a half a month now before Google I/O will start and I don't think that they will possibly release a bug fix update (4.4.3) on a short amount of time before they actually release a major update on IO.

Except for the negative image for samsung if they deliver a crappy froyo release. I'm so afraid this is going to be disappointing for many people who expect their devices to be 4 times as fast and stuff...
I just hope for a proper stable release, preferably with the filesystem changed (but I doubt that's gonna happen) which just works good out of the box.
There too many weird bugs in JPH to be released as final. I had an alarm set,m removed it and it still went off later on the day. Apart from that other people reported tons of small and big bugs and issues.

There are no limit of ram in 2.1, the 2.1 sgs uses already have highmem support.
Its samsungs bloated firmware that reserve more than 200MB for itself.
why galaxy tab have 425 MB of ram ? hardware is the same. and why galaxy tab play 1080p videos ?

Should we start a pool on when it'll actually come out? I'm betting something like 8 months from now.

You know AT&T will be the last and Verizon will be first, hopefully AT&T will decide to release the update to the S3.

That's from Samsung Poland regarding the international i9300 version.
Pretty sure the international i9300 will get the 4.4.2 update elsewhere in Europe.
And unless Samsung USA backtracks on its commitment to bring Android 4.4.2 to the North American SGS3, I'm confident we'll see it.

The problem that I have is that the official announcement says "select carriers" leaving me to believe that there is a possibility it could never happen with AT&T. Of course since AT&T is so large I think it will go through to avoid a massive swarm of complaints. It really comes down to how quickly they will push the release.

Pretty sure Sprint releases the first update, followed by T-Mobile...then AT&T and finally Verizon. It's been that way for all devices. Ex.: the 4.3 update.
WOW, ANOTHER TOY TO PLAY WITH. OH MY GOD. WHEN DO WE GET IT? WHEN DO WE GET IT? HURRY UP AT&T. I CANNOT WAIT. OH MY GOD! WHEN DO WE GET IT? WHEN DO WE GET IT?
Look, if we ever get this update, can at least some of you hold off for a little bit and see what the update does to some of the other phones first (does it lock the bootloader, does it make battery life worse, what apps might have issues, is there a way to go back in case something goes wrong) and not make the same mistake that so many of us make with these phones by rushing to these toys, oops, updates impatiently the very first day that they come out. I call these updates toys because with the exception of the phones that have major issues, all these updates are around here is just something new to play with.
BUT WHAT IF I WANT TO, SHORTYDOGGG?
Forget it. I see that I won't get through to everybody because we are all different. Carry on everyone.

There is no update for the N10.1-12; there's a single incomplete leak for the 3G version. Between the Wi-Fi, 3G, and LTE versions of the N10.1-14 taking in to account the dozens of different regions they're sold in it'll take months before everyone here receives their update. Some will get it early in the process and be happy and some will get it toward the end and be miserable. It's the way it goes every update cycle including the latter group *****ing here to no avail and swearing never to buy another Samsung device again. Lather.Rinse. Repeat.

You can rest assured that if it were available there would be a version of it posted here on xda. When it is it will be on here within moments of the devs getting their hands on it or anyone for that matter.
Have you read the correct ones vause what ive seen says that us carriers wont start pushing anything till almost march
The Galaxy S5 got the lollipop 5.0 update in the USA. Thanks LG, while you're busy releasing the update for users in Nigeria, the enthusiasts in the USA are still stuck on KitKat... mine boggling......
Sent from my LG-D851
I'd not LG's fault. In the US the carriers test the software, have LG put their own software on the phone and then test done more. They are the cause if the delay, and with T-mobile they at have Wi-Fi calling so probably even more delay to test that.
Good to know, but I was wondering because I was going back to stock, but course leaving it rooted, but then there was an update. Was that the update that we're all waiting for? or is it just a minor update I think I saw something like 247MB don't know if thats correct but I was going to unroot my phone just to get that update, but thats not Lollipop right?
Alrighty then so... Thanks T-mobile....
Sent from my LG-D851
I think that tweet from LG USA was designed to put pressure on the carriers to hasten the release. Unfortunately for LG this may backfire on them. Most people think phone manufactueres are responsible for timely release of updates. US carriers need to add their bloatware and wi-fi calling in T-mobiles case to the new update. LG's part is done. Call your local branches and bug the crap out of them.
What is so great about lollipop? Xposed doesnt work with it among other things. I would not update even if it was available right now.

Id think thay would be a fair assesment. So before mar 1 we could plan to see a roll out or at least definite word

I would think this means the update is hitting phones on the 10th or 11th. Normally they keep the old update rolling until they hot swap with the new one. I would imagine only hours of downtime for updates if they don't hot swap. Then again some people still haven't received the ota notification yet... Who knows?

And yet there is no ETA for lollipop on the S5 (as for T-mobile variant). Judging the ETA for update for the LG G3 from the update intended for another device from another manufacturer is very immature.
Don't get me wrong, I would want 5.0 on my G3 asap, but I just want to point our that that date is irrelevant, just as the post from AP I linked suggested.

Me too
Download the July OTA from Google and sideload it using ADB. Directions on how to do it are on the page I just linked to.
I know I can but why OTA doesn't come?
Ask Google. But really, does it matter why when you have the ability to fix the problem?
Because is strange that a brand new device stopped updating. But I know, a solution is a solution.
Not that strange. The rollout of OTAs if I recall is staged. It's possible you're one of the last to get it, or other issues such as network quality could affect it. The only people who would know for certain is Google. I couldn't tell you myself because I download the full OTA every month: I'm rooted and incremental OTAs cause issues.
thanx

i have already contacted google twice
And what did they say? I bet they didn't mention the OTA images mentioned upthread, and I bet you've not taken advantage of it to actually get yourself updated. That of course is your call, but complaining won't get your phone updated any faster.
ok

sorry to hear.but i dont agree with flashing or side load an update
It's a perfectly viable solution, but you're only disagreeing because it isn't the answer you wanted to hear. I don't know who on this forum can give you the answer you want, especially if Google couldn't.
I'm outta here.
ok

Install a VPN, and try checking for an update. It worked once for me.
The VPN was Set to UK I think, If not USA.

True but that should only take like 2 weeks at the MOST. It should never take until after the next update is out. There have been two updates released since then. We are less than 2 weeks away from the August update.
thanx
