Except for the negative image for samsung if they deliver a crappy froyo release. I'm so afraid this is going to be disappointing for many people who expect their devices to be 4 times as fast and stuff...
I just hope for a proper stable release, preferably with the filesystem changed (but I doubt that's gonna happen) which just works good out of the box.
There too many weird bugs in JPH to be released as final. I had an alarm set,m removed it and it still went off later on the day. Apart from that other people reported tons of small and big bugs and issues.

I don't expect that much from official release. Moreover I can't understand the reason why they had to limit the ram amount in 2.1. Than about jit...hum do they know what is it?

There are no limit of ram in 2.1, the 2.1 sgs uses already have highmem support.
Its samsungs bloated firmware that reserve more than 200MB for itself.
why galaxy tab have 425 MB of ram ? hardware is the same. and why galaxy tab play 1080p videos ?
haha, just called samsung support austria and the guy told me that he doesn't know exactly when it will come, he can only tell me that it will be this year (most likely) ... *bad* samsung, *bad*
any idea what firmware I need to have installed for kies to detect a new firmware update incase one gets released.
I am currently using JM8 but thats after all not an officisl firmware so not expecting keys to find updates.

JM1 rev. 3 - you can install it via Kies faking some registry settings - all was descibed on this forum. No root, no lag fix. JM1 official is bareable without lag fix.

Well i only care for the source of froyo so curio can compile the new lagfix for 2.2
I hope its true... And I hope Samsung give us all a heads-up when its due to land, no just shoving out the back door unexpectedly.
Wishlist:
1. Reformat data partition to EXT4 or YAFFS2.
2. Better battery life
3. Typical Froyo features (apps2sd, batch/auto-update apps, JIT, animated gifs in browser)
I wonder what it would mean for Project Voodoo if they do sort out the file system.... I guess Supercurio can concentrate on the colour fix then (unless that is sorted too!)

Your sarcasm isn't really necessary. Yes it was rumoured to be out in Korea in August but it was exactly that, a rumour! No one heard specifically from Samsung that it would be and thus only fools should have expected it would. September on the other hand http://twitter.com/samsungukmobile as mentioned numerous times (most recently last night) is the set update period for the i9000 therefore this OP could very well be right. I wouldn't get my heart set on the 23rd but as has been OFFICIALLY confirmed multiple times il deffinitly be tasting some froyo before months end...
yeah.. im checking the web every single day since the month start just to know weather the updates has been rolling out or not.. guess this rumor will speed up my heartbeat.. lol..
if they don't get it right, the i9k will be my first and last samsung.
However, I guess they don't care. Too many mass market customers who don't really care are worth more than XDA dev enthusiasts who care.

you can wish for this but i'm sure that they will NOT change rfs to ext4. yaffs is (obviously) not made for the mmc/sd-interface. remember, htc et.al use yaffs for the nand and not the sd! my guess would be that samsung will try to fix the lag-issue by improving the rfs(-driver) or by some crappy memory buffering hack ... i just hope that they will release the kernel source for 2.2 soon because i am sure that we will need some voodoo-love for the new froyo rom
Get rid of rfs. rfs = retarded file system.
I am ready for dissapointments: rfs, lags, no jit, 300mb RAM in 2.2. This way it will be easier to accept a FAIL firmware.
Samsung are beginning to roll out the fix for the volume bug. https://twitter.com/#!/SamFirmware/status/140471495288823808
Any more info, like a date, when to expect the update?
Oh, wait, it's Samsung, so it will arrive "anytime soon", which means "by the end of November", which actually means "maybe November, but definitely in December"...
Nice, I should have my Nexus by Tues or Wednesday then.
Interesting it's a radio update, not Android or anything lower level.
How will the fix be delivered? direct to the handset via update or USB?
Too bad they don't seem to have a link to it.

OTA to the handset.
Once someone gets the OTA - they can pull it from a logcat and get the URL - then anyone can download apply without waiting for their IMEI to be flagged to receive the update.
Hm, but this doesn't seem to be an official Twitter account / Website of Samsung.

because it's referencing an increment to the baseband version, and not mentioning anything about an Android version number.

Because the name of the update is the name of the baseband, not Android.
I am pretty sure it will be more than just the radio, P3Droid tweeted on the 22nd about ICL52 and Adnroid 4.2 with a new baseband.... When though Samsung??!!
We were told the ICL53b update contained the fix, no mention of the baseband version. I can try to get more info but its a holiday weekend here so no idea if i will be able to reach him.

As has been proven the bug occurs when the phone is in the bootloader, so it's nothing to do with Android.
The patch needs to be at a hardware level, so it will be firmware update. That comes from Samsung, not Google.
It might be the case that the patch for this particular problem was developed by Samsung but it'll still be released by Google not Samsung. So we are waiting for both but ultimately it'll be Googles decision when to push it. At least that's my understanding of the update process of a Nexus phone.
some people in this thread need to remember a few things:
1) Nexus handsets are made as a collaboration between Google and whoever the chosen manufacturer is.
2) Google push all unbranded Nexus updates, not the manufacturer.
in the case of this update, it will likely be pushed as an update to Android anyway - I have never seen a baseband change come through to an Android handset without it being with an incremental update to Android.
I've got to the stage when I don't care who does what - all I want is an update so that the phone is usable. I suspect many early adopters think the same.
I agree mate. I don't care if apple make the fix. For me this weekend staying in London my phone was unusable in certain parts. Grrrrrrrr

Hopeful
As much as I hope it is released for our phones, a single person who does live chats all day may not be the most rock-solid source. Any number of things could turn out to have happened, from misreading an information sheet before giving you said information to her being just plain wrong.
Thank you for posting this though, it is important that up to date information like that is made public. Its just that I'm not sure if one representative saying it is on its way is a complete confirmation.
Does anyone know how reliable these live chats usually are?

Not very reliable in this case since they are not allowed to give too much information out to the public. I posted a thread after I talked to one of Samsung's live representatives and they told me that the update would come in a matter of weeks. You can check my thread out if you want.

I was talking with AT&T repair regarding my phone freezing when switching from portrait to landscape since the 4.3 OTA and they told me they were not aware of a fix coming out for this, but that 4.4 will probably come out in a couple months and it may replace whatever is causing the problem. When I went to the Samsung Experience center to let them force the OTA onto my phone again to see if that would fix the issue, that tech said the same thing about 4.4 coming out, but he thought my freeze issue is hardware related.

Kit Kat does bring down memory usage, so if you use or want some of the S applications and features that Touchwiz has, you should see better performance due to released memory.
Theoretically that is, I've been on CM11 nightlies for awhile now.

Hi guys so I'm helping my friend's Note 2 to manually update it to KK via kies cause OTA is still not available when checking on 'Check for updates' (Yeah it's over a month now and the update is still not there! freaky sam****)
So our problem is the kies dashboard just displays 'Latest firmware' for her device and we cannot see any other option to check updates for KK on kies, that is just stupid :/ Her Note 2 is on JB 4.3, so my question is, is there any possible way on how to get rid of that 'Latest firmware' label on her device via Samsung Kies to be able to get the latest update?
If you're going to say about ODIN or any geeky things to do, she won't allow it lol, she's sick of that, she just wants to upgrade it manually over the kies.
Probably her phone region is on a place that doesn't have the update yet.. aaand of course you cannot change that unless you use Odin.

First of all, thanks guys for giving me time answering my stupid question lol, I've ran out of thanks and I promise I'll give you thanks back later!
So yeah why the fvck did samsht announced that they would be releasing the 4.4.2 update so early as last month if they can't even roll out as soon as possible? that's insane it's almost a month now and the update is not even rolling out here (btw I live in Manila, Ph)

Well check the update OTA or via kies since you are in Manila.
Talking about 4.4.3 by Google I doubt it would bring anything major to phones except bug fixes that plagued the Nexus devices. The more bigger announcement would be at the Google I/O when we might hear about Android 4.5 or 5 ,who knows and this might be the very last update we would get from Samsung/Google judging by the 2 year policy of Google to support devices

No not yet. Everyone is anxiously awaiting word from Mo Versi on twitter that the update has been approved and that OTA will begin shortly. He had previously said he expected approval on 7/17 and release on 7/20 but it hasn't happened yet.
I am not happy that TMO has been holding this up to the point where even AT&T got it out first and they are near the bottom in terms of releasing updates.

No they're not skipping 5.1. They are so far behind in firmware they won't skip 5.1 on a flagship device like this. Most likely there was some last min bug with a piece of TMO bloatware that they had to correct. That's almost always the reason...

Hopefully they release it soon. I'm only looking forward to it so that viperone gets WiFi calling and HD calling working on the updated firmware.
"Meanwhile, Sentinel Republic claimed that HTC senior vice president for Product Management Mo Versi confirmed that HTC One M9 users under T-Mobile and Verizon will receive the Android 5.1.1 OTA on July 20."

Not sure how credible it is, but there you go

They're just restating what Mo said last week via twitter when it was on time.

That's the same article I read. It's not really a big deal to me either way. I'd rather wait a little longer and get a stable release than have them rush it out full of bugs.
Since there's been a bit of a slow down with the m9 and I'm getting bored with it. I am trying to get my hands on a nexus so I can flash the Android m preview. Will keep my m9 as my daily driver though.

So nothing yet? They said the 20th and then the 21st... But no one reports anything. This sucks, I need to upgrade already. I just don't wanna lose Volte and HD calling, etc

Yeah I am with you. The fact that it has taken this long is ridiculous, we should have had this update weeks ago and it's likely held up with the crap bloatware from TMO we're all going to remove anyway...
Not sure it helps but I've been giving TMO and HTC hell on Twitter.

Since the action is so slow for the m9 I bought a nexus 5 last night... There's like 50 roms plus Android m for that thing! Too bad the phones not as a good of a quality as the m9.

I wonder if this is what's holding up the update... http://www.xda-developers.com/t-mobile-brings-messenger-like-features-to-sms/
Just might be worth the wait. Lately tmous has been rolling out with big things. That's why I left verizon

This feature is supposed to be on the Samsung Galaxy grand prime or something like that , so it is doubtful it will come in this update , that device drops next month .
Ha-ha I totally skipped the last paragraph stating that... OK I'm out if excuses now
T-Mobile's Des tweeted- said possibly next week and will give an update on Monday as to status. They weren't done testing yet was the reason for delay. We'll see I guess.

I had heard internally that they were having trouble with a couple a of their bloatware apps causing wakelock issues. Crap we're all going to delete anyway.
