Actually, test point method works for such phones, if they are manufactured before 12W11. If it is later (check under the battery), then you are pretty much stuck there.

[Q]Flashmode with Xperia Play 800a

Hi, I was wondering if my phone is capable of entering flash mode.
I have a Xperia Play 800a phone, from Rogers
Additional Info:
Tried Gingerbreak initially to root, not knowing it wouldn't work
Moved on to FlashTools, to attempt flashmode
Then to Root MANY ANDROID! [Upd: 20.09.2012].
Afterwards, I think the option to root (zergRush) using Flashtools got enabled, clicked that, phone got rooted
Busy Box v1.19.0 installed
Android version: 2.3.4
Build number: 4.0.2.A.0.42
Baseband: -56
Kernel: 2.6.32.9.-perf
Root Access Allowed
Using FlashTools:
I've read multiple threads of how to get into flash mode (Unplug your device, power off the device, hold back button or home button (also tried pressing button consistently), I've tried pretty much every button, and then plugged in the USB cable. I even took my battery out for 5-10 seconds, still no luck.
Once I plug my USB cable back in to my phone, while still holding back button or search button, the Sony Ericsson screen pops up, I get a dundun sound from the PC, then my light turns green and the phone begins charging, no flashing/action from FlashTools begins.
This is the message I received from FlashTools
28/022/2012 17:22:09 - INFO - Device disconnected
28/027/2012 17:27:36 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
28/027/2012 17:27:36 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
Another method I attempted was going into SDK tools folder, opening cmd in the platforms-tools, using the command "adb reboot-bootloader" and it just restarts my phone normally.
fastboot commands don't work either
I've checked my phone to make sure I'm in Mass storage mode, and USB Debugging is enabled.
I visited this site as well http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
Entered this number into my phone
*#*#7378423#*#*
Looked under Configuration
Rooting status: Bootloader unlock allowed: No
Could this possibly mean phone isn't able to enter flashmode?

Im assuming you have the xperia play drivers installed. You can enter flashmode but you cant enter fastboot mode thats disabled because your bootloader is locked. To enter flashmode power off your xperia play (without removing the battery). As soon as your xperia play is off press and hold the back button and connect the usb cable to the pc before the xperia play boots up. If you look at the power button it should have the color green=flashmode thats what you should be looking for. Blue is fastboot mode these are indicators what mode your xperia play is in. You need green for flashmode.

When you say Xperia play drivers, what exactly are you referring to?
And yes I do follow those steps of turning off the phone, and holding the back button, and plugging the USB cable. The light still stays green, no matter what I do.
Maybe I'm missing those Xperia play drivers?

[Q] [PRO] Bricked, after a night of charging

Hi,
I come here, because I somehow bricked my MK16 Xperia Pro with GB, and don't now what to do. I sent it to Sony, but they told me, I changed the software and refused any service. So I'am on my own. The phone was rooted and the bootloader was open, I did that months ago and the phone worked good. Then one evening, I switched it off and I wasn't able to switch it on next morning. Don't know what happend. The phone is simply dead.
No switching on, display stays off
No charging
No connections to the PC
Battery is full and I also have another one to test.
If it's connected to the PC (Win7) I hear a small beep from windows, that something is pluged in via USB, in the device-manager I see a new ZEUS Flash Device.
I tried several methods to unbrick it, but
flashtool doesn't recognize it (it says plug the phone in, but it does not recognize it)
Sony Updateservice with the same problem
fastboot says "Waiting for Device"
I tried all magic keys to enter the booloader, menu-key, vol-down/up, back-key, back and menu-key, together with power key or plugging in USB-Cable. Maybe I did something wrong?
The guys from the service must have made it run, because they told me, I changed the software. How did they got in?
The funny thing is, after I got it back, it worked again once (the service people said, they did not repair it), I was able to boot. The last thing was, I accepted an OTA-Update and the Phone rebooted and never woke up. It bricked again and I have no idea how to make it work again.
So any hint is really welcome.
Recover Bootloader?
Hi,
I spent the night to recover my phone. My findings are, that I can boot sometimes, if I plug USB in and pressing Vol-Down. The phone boots until I can login. I made a factory reset over the menu, but after switching off, I can't switch it on with the power button. So I tried fastboot mode with the flashtool and my firmware. After a few attempts I was able to flash it. But again, no switching on via power button.
I have to plug in an out USB 10-20 times, and then the phone starts to live again. But regardless what I do, the phone denies to start via power button.
This leads me to the conclusion, that maybe my Bootloader is broken? I'am not a phone pro, but on a PC I'd rewrite MBR and Bootsector with this symptoms.
What do you say folks? And how can I do that? I only found how to unlock the Bootloader, but not how to reinstall it.
Please help
Flash in flash mode, not fast boot. The OTA is what's caused this, check FXP's OTA unbrick thread.

Check the tutorial in my signature, I have all the information about unbricking after OTA update.
OTA not the cause
@Xperience, the OTA is not the cause for my problems. I accepted the OTA after I had the problems, because I thought I could fix it with formatting and rewriting everything (what I thought is the case with an OTA-Update). And I'am sorry, I searched the forum with the words you mentioned, and I can't find the OTA unbrick thread. If you have a more detailed pointer, I'll be happy.
@Someguy, thanks for your help, I looked into your tutorial, but excuse me for being blind, I can't see where is the point, which can help me. Could you be more precise please?
It's a sticky in the dev section. You might need to swap a few files to suit your Phone.

After UnbrickingXperia2011.zip
Hi, I found in @Someguys tutorial Point 6, howto unbrick. I installed the new Loader using flashtool. Turned off, and ONCE it turned on again, using the power button. But after reinstalling SIM-Card (and battey), the phone again refuses to start with the power button.
WTH is that? So I flashed the firmware and the loader, but it had no impact. Anything else I can do?
That's the log of flashtool:

Hi,
This will fix your unlocked Phones which got bricked through OTA update and are dead now!
Please download this package:
http://www.multiupload.com/Q103V01CV1
Let it extract to a destination of your choice.
After that run Flashtool.exe.
Now hit the button FLASH and select the package which is included.
Follow the steps and connect your phone in flashmode. This is the same mode Pc Companion and SEUS uses to flash your phone to newer firmare (Indicated by green LED), if you got BLUE LED you are in the wrong mode!
Flashtool will now detect your phone and start the repair.
After all is done your phone should be up and running again.
ADVICE:
PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OTA'S ! If you receive a OTA message just decline, if you accept it you will end with a brick AGAIN! So please do NOT accept them until SonyEricsson provides a OTA solution for unlocked Bootloaders!
Best Regards

Not sure why you removed your SIM and SD, but try the above.
I'll see
Hi,
thanks for your quoting. But I'am suspicious, because I was able to use the SE Update-Service Tool (after 20 times reconnecting USB) and upgraded to ICS (and have choosen the option to overwrite an kill everything on the phone). The tool downloaded an flashed 224 MB, the phone worked and even started again once with the power button. And now, again, dead phone. I'am not sure, if these kind of flashing is a solution to my problem. IMHO the OTAs are not the problem, because I had these problems with the dead powerkey BEFORE I used one OTA.

Try it or don't, your Phone is dead anyway, the Service doesn't want to know, so your only options are to try what's being suggested here or take it off to a repair shop, which you might need to do anyway by the sounds of it, but you won't know unless you try.
Of course you're right, I'am stuck with a brick and have nothing to loose. I tried what you've provided, but it is the same file to flash, as mentionend in the HowTos of @Someguy. I already did this. This time with SD and SIM. Once again, no effect.
I'd like to bring it to the shop, but the repair shop denied any service, because the "Origininal-Software has been changed", I think they meant the open Bootloader. They don't have even asked to repair it for money.
One Question: If I flash with flashtool an choose one fsf-file, there are more files in this fsf-file (like loader.sin and preset.ta). Do I have to flash everything seperatly or does flashtool write it alltogether?

What makes you think I didn't? I tried it already (again), and I wrote it had no effect. The log didn't say that it is flashing all files of the fsf-container, just preset.ta has been mentioned by name. Sorry, for not being an Android-Pro, I'm working on it.
At the moment the phone is running and I try not to switch it off. It is also no mechanical problem of the power switch, because if the phone is running, I can use it.
I really would like to know, what happens in first stage, when the power button is pressed or an USB-cable is connecting. There must be something before the Bootloader. It looks like, the routine which starts the Bootloader stucks. On a PC I'd say, there is a POST problem in the BIOS, right before the Bootmanager can be started. Any idea how to debug that?
BTW: The SE-ICS implementation sucks, the Pro-Keyboard is not supported correctly (at least the german layout).
I thought you hadn't by the way you had worded your post. I don't know what else to suggest.

Thanks anyway for your help!
Just remembered, contact Alejandrissimo or Jinx13, they have the full SETool and Alejandrissimo has a thread about repairing the BL. There's a link to their profiles in my guide. Now I am fully out of ideas.

Thx. I managed to root the new ICS, sometimes the powerbutton works as it should. I also found, that pulling out the battery an re-inserting it a few times, will also make the phone start via the powerbutton, not only plugging in the USB-Cable.

[Q]Trying to unlock bootloader (rogers ph) using omnius.Testpoint does NOTHING - HELP

Hi,
I have a Rogers branded Xperia arc. I have downloaded Omnius and paid for the 1 day 1 unlock licence. I follow the instructions that omnius says, (ground testpoint, press power button, let go of testpoint, plug in cable) - after I plug in cable nothing happens. The computer beeps like I connected something - but nothing happens, omnius shows that it's still just 'idling'.
Any ideas why this isn't working? I have tried 3 different types of metal (wire, paperclip and tweezers), I've also tried grounding to the sim card metal bracket and to the ground on the battery. Nothing different happens.
Omnius did install drivers when I first plugged in my phone and identified.
My phone production is 11W29 - but I'm understanding that is fine.
My licence is only a 1 day licence so it will no longer be good in about 12 hours. Hopefully someone knows what is going on.
Thanks!

I tried using a wire like in that tutorial too. I do not have a generic phone so that s1 method will not work for me - that is why I downloaded Omnius and bought an unlock licence. The omnius program has successfully installed the drivers (it connected my phone as a SEMC Flash device) , but it's when I try to unlock it that it does nothing - I click start and the bar at the bottom and lights up green and says "action progress like it's supose to - then I follow the instruction (which are quite straight forward - or so I thought), but after I follow them nothing happens. The 'action progress' bar keeps moving like the program is unware I tired. - The computer does beep when I plug in/unplug my phone while trying this (the same noise when you plug anything in ) but nothing pops up and nothing happens.
I have read LOTS of peoples (successful) posts using this (omnius) method to unlock their phone - and haven't come across anyone that had my problem.
I think I will just try rooting and flashing a stock rom.... I read that "might' fix the problem - I don't understand how that would make a difference, but I'm willing to try anything now since the $20 licence expires in a few hours.
YEAAAH - I got it to work - FINALLY - I just reinstalled the drivers again, and then there was a problem with the server (out of my control), took me a good hour of straight hitting the reconnect server button before it finally worked.

these are the possible reasons for that to happen
1) u dont hav the drivers for ur phone
download "pdaNet"(just search in google) install with ur phone connected.
2)if u r using USB 3.0 connect to USB 2.0
in my laptop i cant enter fastboot when i connect it to usb 3.0

Are you sure it says that your bootloader can be unlocked in service menu
7378423 in dialer i think
Sent from my Xperia ion using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If some one can find me a way to unlock the bootloader on L28H i will be very glad...cuz i just bricked my phone and i`m flashing a rom for locked bootloaders
Go to: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and read everything!
At the bottom click 'Start Unlocking the Bootloader'
Quote:
First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu. In your phone, open the phone dial pad and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
After you have verified that you can unlock bootloader, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Continue"
You will get "Are you sure prompt" accept it by clicking "yes i am sure" (i assume that you have read an understood it)
Then accept the "legal terms"
Finally you will get a "Create Unlock request" page, enter your IMEI (sometimes the last digit needs to be removed for this to work), name and email address
You should now receive your unique unlock key, its displayed on screen, SAVE THIS KEY SAFELY
Extract fastboot_with_Android_USB_file.rar and open fastboot folder
Hold SHIFT and right click on the background of the folder
Select 'Open command window here'
Connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn phone off, hold Volume UP button and plug in USB Cable) [make sure drivers are installed as explained above)
In the cmd windows type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
If a value is returned (it will return 0.5), it means the phone is correctly connected
Type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY and replace KEY with the key which you received earlier.
Your device should now be bootloader unlocked
From here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1753261
Is the same for any ION. Some can be unlocked, some can not be unlocked.

then try to boot in fastboot mode via flash tool itself.
once device is in fast boot mode follow the instructions to unlock the boot loader. and It is not necessary to unlock bootloader to install custom rom. it is only required if you want to install custom kernel. recovery can be installed without unlocked boot loaer.

Xperia Play Hard bricked

Hello,
I, about 2 or 3 years ago hard bricked my xperia play.
Since then it has been laying around in my drawer.
I decided to give fixing it another try since I could really need it right now so i gave it a shot.
The red led flashes like 3 times when charging it and sometimes the green led flashes.
When I connect it to my laptop it is only recognized as unknown device, however when i connect the testpoints when plugging it in it is recognized QHSUSB_DLOAD.
Anybody got an idea how to fix it?
So when i try to patch with s1tool it gives me this message:

does green light turn on when connected to pc while holding back button?
if yes i would try to flash stock ftf from flashtools, or try repair with seus or pcc, if you havn't already..so, how did you brick it? bad flashing?
Yea the blue and green light do flash.
I tried flashing tft with flashtool but i got the ERROR - Processing of loader.sin finished with errors.
After trying some stuff with testpoint and s1tool it now even vibrates when pressing the power button.
Ye i think i did something wrong when flashing a rom last time.
Im actually pretty sure that i have a locked bootloader and that it is probably damaged now.
And ye i already tried both pcc and seus but seus doesnt seem to recognize the phone.
If it makes you feel better, my Xperia play is bricked for a while as well and has a similar problem to yours. If i find a solution i'll try and keep you updated. Good luck
