Hi,
I come here, because I somehow bricked my MK16 Xperia Pro with GB, and don't now what to do. I sent it to Sony, but they told me, I changed the software and refused any service. So I'am on my own. The phone was rooted and the bootloader was open, I did that months ago and the phone worked good. Then one evening, I switched it off and I wasn't able to switch it on next morning. Don't know what happend. The phone is simply dead.
No switching on, display stays off
No charging
No connections to the PC
Battery is full and I also have another one to test.
If it's connected to the PC (Win7) I hear a small beep from windows, that something is pluged in via USB, in the device-manager I see a new ZEUS Flash Device.
I tried several methods to unbrick it, but
flashtool doesn't recognize it (it says plug the phone in, but it does not recognize it)
Sony Updateservice with the same problem
fastboot says "Waiting for Device"
I tried all magic keys to enter the booloader, menu-key, vol-down/up, back-key, back and menu-key, together with power key or plugging in USB-Cable. Maybe I did something wrong?
The guys from the service must have made it run, because they told me, I changed the software. How did they got in?
The funny thing is, after I got it back, it worked again once (the service people said, they did not repair it), I was able to boot. The last thing was, I accepted an OTA-Update and the Phone rebooted and never woke up. It bricked again and I have no idea how to make it work again.
So any hint is really welcome.
Recover Bootloader?
Hi,
I spent the night to recover my phone. My findings are, that I can boot sometimes, if I plug USB in and pressing Vol-Down. The phone boots until I can login. I made a factory reset over the menu, but after switching off, I can't switch it on with the power button. So I tried fastboot mode with the flashtool and my firmware. After a few attempts I was able to flash it. But again, no switching on via power button.
I have to plug in an out USB 10-20 times, and then the phone starts to live again. But regardless what I do, the phone denies to start via power button.
This leads me to the conclusion, that maybe my Bootloader is broken? I'am not a phone pro, but on a PC I'd rewrite MBR and Bootsector with this symptoms.
What do you say folks? And how can I do that? I only found how to unlock the Bootloader, but not how to reinstall it.
Please help
Flash in flash mode, not fast boot. The OTA is what's caused this, check FXP's OTA unbrick thread.

Check the tutorial in my signature, I have all the information about unbricking after OTA update.
OTA not the cause
@Xperience, the OTA is not the cause for my problems. I accepted the OTA after I had the problems, because I thought I could fix it with formatting and rewriting everything (what I thought is the case with an OTA-Update). And I'am sorry, I searched the forum with the words you mentioned, and I can't find the OTA unbrick thread. If you have a more detailed pointer, I'll be happy.
@Someguy, thanks for your help, I looked into your tutorial, but excuse me for being blind, I can't see where is the point, which can help me. Could you be more precise please?
It's a sticky in the dev section. You might need to swap a few files to suit your Phone.

After UnbrickingXperia2011.zip
Hi, I found in @Someguys tutorial Point 6, howto unbrick. I installed the new Loader using flashtool. Turned off, and ONCE it turned on again, using the power button. But after reinstalling SIM-Card (and battey), the phone again refuses to start with the power button.
WTH is that? So I flashed the firmware and the loader, but it had no impact. Anything else I can do?
That's the log of flashtool:

Hi,
This will fix your unlocked Phones which got bricked through OTA update and are dead now!
Please download this package:
http://www.multiupload.com/Q103V01CV1
Let it extract to a destination of your choice.
After that run Flashtool.exe.
Now hit the button FLASH and select the package which is included.
Follow the steps and connect your phone in flashmode. This is the same mode Pc Companion and SEUS uses to flash your phone to newer firmare (Indicated by green LED), if you got BLUE LED you are in the wrong mode!
Flashtool will now detect your phone and start the repair.
After all is done your phone should be up and running again.
ADVICE:
PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OTA'S ! If you receive a OTA message just decline, if you accept it you will end with a brick AGAIN! So please do NOT accept them until SonyEricsson provides a OTA solution for unlocked Bootloaders!
Best Regards
Team FreeXperia

Not sure why you removed your SIM and SD, but try the above.
I'll see
Hi,
thanks for your quoting. But I'am suspicious, because I was able to use the SE Update-Service Tool (after 20 times reconnecting USB) and upgraded to ICS (and have choosen the option to overwrite an kill everything on the phone). The tool downloaded an flashed 224 MB, the phone worked and even started again once with the power button. And now, again, dead phone. I'am not sure, if these kind of flashing is a solution to my problem. IMHO the OTAs are not the problem, because I had these problems with the dead powerkey BEFORE I used one OTA.

Try it or don't, your Phone is dead anyway, the Service doesn't want to know, so your only options are to try what's being suggested here or take it off to a repair shop, which you might need to do anyway by the sounds of it, but you won't know unless you try.
Of course you're right, I'am stuck with a brick and have nothing to loose. I tried what you've provided, but it is the same file to flash, as mentionend in the HowTos of @Someguy. I already did this. This time with SD and SIM. Once again, no effect.
I'd like to bring it to the shop, but the repair shop denied any service, because the "Origininal-Software has been changed", I think they meant the open Bootloader. They don't have even asked to repair it for money.
One Question: If I flash with flashtool an choose one fsf-file, there are more files in this fsf-file (like loader.sin and preset.ta). Do I have to flash everything seperatly or does flashtool write it alltogether?

What makes you think I didn't? I tried it already (again), and I wrote it had no effect. The log didn't say that it is flashing all files of the fsf-container, just preset.ta has been mentioned by name. Sorry, for not being an Android-Pro, I'm working on it.
At the moment the phone is running and I try not to switch it off. It is also no mechanical problem of the power switch, because if the phone is running, I can use it.
I really would like to know, what happens in first stage, when the power button is pressed or an USB-cable is connecting. There must be something before the Bootloader. It looks like, the routine which starts the Bootloader stucks. On a PC I'd say, there is a POST problem in the BIOS, right before the Bootmanager can be started. Any idea how to debug that?
BTW: The SE-ICS implementation sucks, the Pro-Keyboard is not supported correctly (at least the german layout).
I thought you hadn't by the way you had worded your post. I don't know what else to suggest.

Thanks anyway for your help!
Just remembered, contact Alejandrissimo or Jinx13, they have the full SETool and Alejandrissimo has a thread about repairing the BL. There's a link to their profiles in my guide. Now I am fully out of ideas.

Thx. I managed to root the new ICS, sometimes the powerbutton works as it should. I also found, that pulling out the battery an re-inserting it a few times, will also make the phone start via the powerbutton, not only plugging in the USB-Cable.

I've just recieved an xperia ZL, i bought on the internet. The seller sold it as it is not working, it cant connect to any network, or its just not recognizing the sim, and the back cam is not working. The cam can start but when I take a pic with it and it tries to save it then I get an Error message without any error codes. I think the phone should be flashed, and I need help with it. Will it make the cam work? And can it help on the other problem with the sim card? I took some pics about the details of my phone, I dont understand anything from it but it can help for some of you

UPDATE
FLASHTOOL installed - YES
Flashtool recognize the phone when it is started - YES
When flashtool asks me to connect the phone in flashmode and it shows me the instructions I cant get it in flashmode.... The instructions dont disappear when I hold the volume down key and connect it to the usb, just red yellow green led flash for <1 second, and nothing happens... then I must restart the phone with the small button on the back of it.
So the thing is stuck here!!! I think my phone is not able to get in flashmode! Is there another method to flash it without using flashmode on phone???? And I think it can start in fastboot mode because if I hold the volume UP key and connect it to usb then the blue led is ON...
One more thing that I was searching for and gugled it and cant find answer
ROOTING STATUS: unknown If I'm right there should be a text like Bootloader unlock allowed:Yes or No... not unknown.

What is the problem now?
And I would like to ask someone a favor who has ZL too, to look at the SIM card slot and see how much pins are there, in my there is 3 and it seems like the fourth on the left side is missing?!?

There must be something u r doing wrong.
For the Z/ZL u need this version : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162907
Find it here also: http://androxyde.github.io/index.html?1371023098000
PC: Flashtool and Flashtool drivers installed, Android ADB drivers installed, Sony PC Companion installed.
XPERIA : Enable USB Debugging, Enable Install from Unknown Sources
Then, turn your phone off.
Start Flashtool, click on the thunder icon, select the file u want to flash, ok, wait for it to load, once the program asks for the phone connect the USB cable, then volume down, keep pressing it while u connect the phone to the usb...should work.

Thak you for your reply... Iam ready to donate for someone who can get this phone work for me!!!!!
I've tried exactly as you said. Everything is installed and the flashtool is that version and it recognize my phone, and when i start the flash and the flashtool shows me the instructions to connect my phone in flashmode, there is the point where I'm stuck. I've noticed that I simply cant get the phone in flashmode. I'm holding the volume down key while I connect the usb in it, then the red yellow green leds flahses for <1 seconds and nothing happens. I'm sure that the phone is unable to get in flashmode. Now I think I need another flashing method where flashmode is not required, if it is possible....
Anyway thank you for your time and reply!!
have you tried to check on sony service ? just make sure that is not hardware broken.
There are several method other than using flashtool.
1. Try repair feature in PC companion
2. If cannot update try download SUS (Google this)
3. Or if u can enter fastboot, u can try to flash the kernel via flashtool. Open flashtool, then go to fastboot mode, then unplug cable, Off phone, enter fastboot mode, in flashtool select flash kernel, select .img file (extract from kernel u download, ensure it has recovery I.e doomkernel) then flash. This will only work if ur bootloader unlocked already + rooted.
4. Try to root u phone 1st then unlocked bootloader. (please backup ur TA partition, otherwise u will loss ur DRM key or in other word loss ur bravia engine feature, custom Rom have this feature already actually, unless u want to go back to completely stock Rom)
5. Or download older version of flashtool. Ur version of Rom .278 seem very rare, never heard of it. Maybe the first Rom version before .350.

Yes for that you'll need root with cwm installed. So that you can flash using any zip..

Did you download the proper drivers for your phone? As well not the 12mb generic one that comes with Flashtools, choose the one that is around 700mb. As well wipe data, cache, and so on.

Hmm, did you properly put your phone into flash mode? Also be careful in choosing the FTF file pick the right one for your region, then plug in your phone, after pick the firmware that is an actual ROM so it'll be over 700mb cause it includes everything. Unplug your phone once the firmware is prepared and press the OFF button in the back where the sim card and sdcard go in, wait till it vibrates 3 times and hold volume down, bam your phone should be in flash mode. Now begin the flashing process and do not touch your phone or unplug while flashing. Trust me, I was in your place not too long ago when I first got my Xperia keep trying and learning from the forums. Make sure you note any mistakes.
As well be sure you have the latest flash tools located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335555

As well be sure you have the latest flash tools located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335555

Make sure your flashing properly send us your log when you try again, the off button on the back must be pushed in with a tiny object it should vibrate once after 3 seconds and 3 times after 5 seconds. As well if your phone sits dead after pushing that button then there's hardware damage, unless flash tools recognizes it also make sure you have all the drivers for your ZL in all modes. Drivers are located in C:/flashtools/drivers install SOE-blahblah, adb, and fastboot(these are mainly at the bottom of the list)

Now that those 3 drivers are all installed flashtools should recognize your Xperia in flash mode, try using the OFF button for 5 seconds and then hold volume down with the USB cable plugged in the phone and computer. Continue with normal flashing, choose the generic firmware that shows system, kernel, etc in the FTF you should see a ton of .sin packages which is your phones firmware. Flash your phone and just be patient, once done Flashtools will say "flash completed please disconnect your phone" once you do that your phone should boot.
Just an observation or a tip.....open on back the sim/sd tray and should be a "off" button there....click on it and try again put him in flash mode, try this a few times until pc recognizes.
So, i already flash the ROM for about 12 times... And repair and update via SUS and PC Companion for about 7 times... Still no sign of life... But my xperia now only show red LED blinking 3 times... If i charge it, it's stuck on bootstall...
NOTE
Tiny off button on near the sim card is not working anymore

So, is hardware damage is related to "can't turn on the device and only shows blinking red LED, also if i charge it, it stuck on bootstall?"
If yes, can i return it ? Even if i already unlock and relock the bootloader?
As previous mention phone (sony) covered for a year, so you can send in to get a new one (refurbished most case).
I recently pickup a new way to flash phone back to stock, so if you want give it a last shot:
1. Phone Off (make sure phone batery is at least more than 10%, otherwise don't have enough power for flashing process, ignore the 50% req'd).
2. Run your PCC, hit support and then repair - follow the steps, it should ran by itshelf.
3. PCC will ask you to hold vol.down+plugin usb.. do it. It should say downloading ... and when done, your phone now should be back to stock.
Good luck - hope it works for you.

Thanks for your thread.
But I spent hours now, to find a method to reanimate my phone. Still I didnt find a suitable semc package or sin_file_set to flash in s1tool.
In other thread I read a hint that maybe I destroyed my trim area. First of all I made a backup of trim area with backupTA program. The backup is a .zip file or .img file. Is there a possibility to restore my phone?

Hi there,
I believe I hard bricked my phone as well (screen stays black, phone vibrates once when keeping the power button pressed, cant get into recovery, volume down button pressed connecting via USB shows green red light flash).
However when connecting to the S1 tool Emma from Sony it detects the phone (see below screen shot) and says the bootloader wasn't unlocked. I am pretty sure I have done this. (It is my first attempt to install a custom ROM).
The S1tool in the description below seems not to recognize the device.
After ploughing through some threads and reading about opening the device looking for test points I thought your thread here seems to be more fit for purpose.
I used EasyRootTool and LockedDualRecovery. I also created a back up file with Backup-TA before bricking it. I got this on my other machine and can attach this if needed tomorrow.
Some help and guidance would be very much appreciated.

Another point: in flashtool you can also unlock and lock the bootloader BLU button). (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440597) (http://xperiafirmware.com/8-firmware/46-sony-xperia-z1-compact-d5503) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642081) (Type in phone *#*#7378423#*#* and go to Service Info => Configuration. If bootloader is unlocked it will say: "Bootloader unlocked: Yes". If it says something else like "Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes", it means the bootloader is locked.). So you can check, if your bootloader is really unlocked

I dont believe, that your phone is ahrdbricked. It seems to be a soft brick: screen stays black, phone vibrates once when keeping the power button pressed, cant get into recovery, volume down button pressed connecting via USB shows green red light flash.
So, you can boot in flashmode. Use flashtool (latest version 9.18), its a powerful tool. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658952) (http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/09/0...allows-you-to-download-xperia-firmware-files/) (http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php) If you have installed flashtool, change to the flashtool folder (C:\flashtool), then drivers, execute the .exe and choose the drivers (fastboot, flashmode and for phone model), then run flashtool. In the links above you can see how to use it. Just boot your phone in flashmode (volume down and usb connecting, run flashtool, click the flash button, choose flashmode and choose a stock rom (which you must download before and copy as .ftf file in the folder firmware in flashtool folder, or type the button device, checkdevice updates, choose your device and download a appropriate stock rom ), then reboot, root yout device again with easyroottool or newroot, reboot in recovery and flash a custom rom. I think it should be possible.

Hi! Did you have any luck?
A few weeks ago my xperia play's battery ran out over night. Upon waking up, my phone would not charge or turn on. When i hold the power button ,the LED blinks red for a second or so and then goes away. I tried connecting my phone to the computer and it wouldn't recognize my phone.
I've tried software repair via pc companion but the computer wouldn't detect my phone like i've said. Is my phones lifespan finished? Is my battery dead and/or is there anyway to fix my phone besides buying a new battery and seeing if that works.

It is most likely empty battery (red blinking). But before buying new battery, you can try few things:
-Connect charger and leave it like that for about 5 hours (when battery is depleted phone won't start, just give her time to charge so phone can be turned on)
-Maybe to try with different usb cable/charger (those things can degrade over time)
-Best way to see is battery empty is mesure it with voltmeter (full is 4.2V, 0% is 3.2V. Below 3V battery is maybe permanently damaged)
-You can be "creative" and give battery a little "boost" with short 5V charge directly (easiest way is with unused usb cable: cut it, plug in charger/PC and connect red wire to "+", and black wire to"-" of battery. Hold it for about 30seconds, so it can charge enough to be normally charge when battery is in phone)

Like psxpetey said, as long as you can still get your phone into Flashmode... you should be able to restore it.
If you're trying to use the official Sony Flashtool.... then I believe that you would have better luck with the unofficial Flashtool. You can download it here ( http://www.flashtool.net/index.php ).
Here's a couple of tutorials on how to use the unofficial Flashtool:

There are so many things that could be happening....which makes it really difficult to help you troubleshoot with limited info.
What version of the Xperia Play do you have? (the R800i, R800x, R800a, etc...)?
Is your bootloader unlocked?
Can you connect to the PC in fastboot mode and can you still get the phone into Flash mode?
What FTF version are you trying to restore your phone to? (For example... "R800x_FullStocknosimlockta_Verizon.ftf").
Check out post #2 and 3 in this thread for some stock FTF files if needed... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184897
(Here's another link with more FTF files - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=3637).
All I know to suggest is that you keep trying and make sure you have followed the correct steps in the Flashtool tutorials. I have personally found it very hard to brick this phone....and believe me, I have done some crazy crap to my Xperia Play when I was learning to root and ROM it. I actually used fastboot to do a full erase and then messed up by not having a recovery to be able to flash a Rom that I wanted to try... but I was still able to get the phone back into Flash mode with no kernel, ROM or recovery installed.... and I used Androxyde's Flashtool to restore my phone.

Reviving an old thread. Now when i try to enter flashmode while attempting to flash a firmware my device isn't recognised by the pc and i am unable to flash the firmware. When i hold the back button nothing happens
Edit: so what i did was take battery out and reinsert it (which allowed flashtool to somehow recognise device and flash a firmware) and i reinstalled the firmware and i turned the device on however it's stuck at the "Sony Ericsson" logo
Double edit: FIXED MY PHONE!!!!
Another edit: I am unable to unlock my bootloader despite my bootloader status claiming it is 'allowed'
Another edit: after installing cwm, i installed a rom however forgot to wipe dalvik cache etc and now im on boot loop. Now i'm back to where i am started. With a phone that doesn't work :/
Another edit: i somehow fixed this by installing a Lupus kernel in which gave me access to cwm again where i reflashed the wrong
Could anyone please help me recovery my hard bricked Xperia XA1 G3112. because I flashed boot image but it went bad
Bootloader is unlocked.
USB Debuggung is on.
The phone can't go to fastboot neither flash mode. no vibration. no blue LED. no green LED.
When connecting the phone to the computer steady red LED go on with sound from the computer detecting a device then disconnect sound every 30 second then reconnected and so on...
on device manager it shows: USB Serial Device COM3.
on flash tool it shows: Device connected with USB debugging off , For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode.
I removed the back cover disconnected the battery then reconnected it then tried to go to fastboot/falsh mode but it didn't go.
I really appreciate any suggestions/help
Please anyone help is the phone completely dead or there's any chance to recover it. only if I could put it in flash mode or fastboot mode will be great
Good evening, I'm living the same thing. In my case, it's the XA1 G3123, but the problem it's the same. The only thing I could see was the red led...

It's sad that this forum has 4 billion members and no one could help ? I wished that if someone on this forum could confirm that the phone is completely dead or what?
Anyway. I bought a new iPhone and that android junk is still in the drawer ?
First, make sure you have the drivers (flashtool and fastboot) installed.
Then download the ROM corresponding to your XA1, it can be by Flashtool or Xperifirm.
Also have at least 20% battery.
With all of this, with XA1 turned off, open Flashtool,
click the lightning button,
choose Flashmode,
select the downloaded ROM (ftf),
click Flash,
as soon as Flashtool prompts you connect to the PC by pressing the volume button at the same time
(can not remember if it is volume - or volume +, the important thing is that the notification light turns green)
and wait for the process to finish.
It works most of the time.

Thanks for the instruction. I did this . but it didn't work, when I press flash a window pops up showing animated "press volume downd and connect your phone to the PC but when I do that nothing happens. the LED light stays red when connection the USB cable. it does not go to flash mode.
I had also tried volume up but that didn't works either.
the phone seems not able to go to flash mode neither fastboot mode.
I also tried removing the battery, press volume down , connect the usb cable then connect the battery back but didn't works.
I tried pressing both volume up and down then connect the usb cable with the battery connected and disconnected but that didn't work either.
I have tried so many combinations buttons with battery in and out. but didn't work.
there's always steady red LED on when connecting the usb cable to pc or to the charger.
I checked all drivers installed correctly. but the problem is the phone does not go to fastboot neither flash mode.
I also don't know more what to do, because none of the buttons or its combinations result in something beyond the same red led. I've installed the usb vcom preload drivers, MTK 67xx drivers and I also tried to desconect the battery and once again changes nothing.
The only thing that happens is the device connecting and disconnecting every 30 seconds in the hardware manager, and no programms or flashers like Flash Tool recognize the smartphone.
If anyone could give any ideas would be helpful, considering my knowledge in cell phones hardware is very low.
https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/flash-tool/
hld power and vol up, device vibration once, keep holding, release buttons when vibrated three times
phone shut down, no more led
plug usb in pc, not mobile, hold volume down and plug in mobile too after you launched emma
https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/flash-tool/
emma will detect your device in flashmode and offer you a rom to download and flash, problem solved
maybe not the latest rom for your country but the most common for the device to unbrick
did u find any solution

Hi,
No, it's not a battery problem, don't change it, that's not the solution... I have the same problem with my XA1 G3121, and I buy a new battery the last week, but nothing change, my phone is always blocked ... the red light stay red when i connect the phone to the PC (or when I connect it to the charger), and directly off when i disconnect it, but the problem stay the same,I can't change the red light in green or blue...
Sorry for my poor English, I'm french and I know sometimes it's difficult to understand my english...
I will see if I can test the Test point because it's the last than I don't test to ressucite my XA1.
If you find a solution to ressucite it, please write me how you do please...

I've tried Emma, Flashtool, Xperia Companion, and none of them recognized the device. Do you know if Is there any software that see a device aparently dead?

I know this is a old thread but people you must understand, what happened is that your Sony phone disconnected while flashing the boot.img (so now the phone has no software at all! ) No rom is easy fix, but no bootloader (boot.img) you are sol
These phones have a tendency to do this if you chose the wrong settings before flashing.
So basically you have a lifeless brick (the phone doesn't know it's a phone) that's why it doesn't do nothing but have a red light, the only FIX is JTAG jtagging the device or to swapp the motherboard i have a xa1 ultra from 2018 i bricked, 4 years later i bought a motherboard and swapped it and voila back up and running.
So please flash and root responsibly most soft bricked can be fixed but when you delete the boot.img, only JTAG can save you good luck!!
