Hi, I was wondering if my phone is capable of entering flash mode.
I have a Xperia Play 800a phone, from Rogers
Additional Info:
Tried Gingerbreak initially to root, not knowing it wouldn't work
Moved on to FlashTools, to attempt flashmode
Then to Root MANY ANDROID! [Upd: 20.09.2012].
Afterwards, I think the option to root (zergRush) using Flashtools got enabled, clicked that, phone got rooted
Busy Box v1.19.0 installed
Android version: 2.3.4
Build number: 4.0.2.A.0.42
Baseband: -56
Kernel: 2.6.32.9.-perf
Root Access Allowed
Using FlashTools:
I've read multiple threads of how to get into flash mode (Unplug your device, power off the device, hold back button or home button (also tried pressing button consistently), I've tried pretty much every button, and then plugged in the USB cable. I even took my battery out for 5-10 seconds, still no luck.
Once I plug my USB cable back in to my phone, while still holding back button or search button, the Sony Ericsson screen pops up, I get a dundun sound from the PC, then my light turns green and the phone begins charging, no flashing/action from FlashTools begins.
This is the message I received from FlashTools
28/022/2012 17:22:09 - INFO - Device disconnected
28/027/2012 17:27:36 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
28/027/2012 17:27:36 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
Another method I attempted was going into SDK tools folder, opening cmd in the platforms-tools, using the command "adb reboot-bootloader" and it just restarts my phone normally.
fastboot commands don't work either
I've checked my phone to make sure I'm in Mass storage mode, and USB Debugging is enabled.
I visited this site as well http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
Entered this number into my phone
*#*#7378423#*#*
Looked under Configuration
Rooting status: Bootloader unlock allowed: No
Could this possibly mean phone isn't able to enter flashmode?

Im assuming you have the xperia play drivers installed. You can enter flashmode but you cant enter fastboot mode thats disabled because your bootloader is locked. To enter flashmode power off your xperia play (without removing the battery). As soon as your xperia play is off press and hold the back button and connect the usb cable to the pc before the xperia play boots up. If you look at the power button it should have the color green=flashmode thats what you should be looking for. Blue is fastboot mode these are indicators what mode your xperia play is in. You need green for flashmode.

When you say Xperia play drivers, what exactly are you referring to?
And yes I do follow those steps of turning off the phone, and holding the back button, and plugging the USB cable. The light still stays green, no matter what I do.
Maybe I'm missing those Xperia play drivers?

Yeah, USB debugging and allow unknown sources are ticked off, I guess I'll have to pay for it if I want it unlocked -__-
Thanks for the help though
No, u gotta tick them ON for flashtool to work.
Nothing to do with bootloaders.

I've tried to flash "LT15_LT18_70_Baseband.ftf" on Arc phone using flashtool 8.0.0 x64, flashtoox64.exe.
I pressed flash button and check flashmod and OK, select "LT15_LT18_70_Baseband.ftf" and selected all sins and ok. Then I got usb connection guide screen and I plugged usb in arc as described at usb connection guide screen.
But the "usb connection guide screen" didn't disappear and I got these logs at flashtool application.
Please connect your device into flashmode.
- Device connected in fastboot mode
INFO - List of connected devices (Device Id) :
INFO - - USB\VID_0FCE&PID_0DDE\CB5A1FWGV2&ZLP Driver installed : true
INFO - List of ADB devices :
INFO - - none
INFO - List of fastboot devices :
INFO - - none
INFO - Device disconnected
And I tried usb connection with "flash.exe", then I got this attached picture, and still the "usb connection guide screen" didn't disappear as shown in the attached picture.
Please let me know how to connect my arc phone into flashmode.
Thanks in advance.
Have you put it in flash mode? I.e. Turn off the phone hold the menu button then connect the USB?

No, I pressed "Back" button as described at flashtool.

Press and hold.
Yes, I pressed and holding "Back" button I plugged usb.
But still flashtool shows "INFO - Device connected in fastboot mode".
Phone should be in Mass Storage Mode (MSC) and you need to switch off your phone. Press and hold Back when flashtool tells you to do so, plug in the USB and release Back only when instructed.
xtacy!/ Yes, I checked MSC, and pressed and hold "Back" button when the guide picture appear.
I also tried at safe with networking, but same result.
" INFO - Device connected in fastboot mode "
This log was loaded.
Try using Media Transfer mode.. To be honest, i never used MSC mode in my lifetime while flashing with FT and has always been in MT mode..

Same here. I've never really used MSC mode. I prefer MTP. But the instructions say to use the former. Oh well.

gire.prasad/ Thanks.
I changed twice, then it works.
If it tells you you're on Fastboot mode, then it's not the correct key you're holding. If it needs flashmode, your led should turn green, if it turns blue, it's on Fastboot mode.
You can try this by powering off your phone and trying holding down keys until the green led is on. (Dunno which one is for Arc, I have a Pro).
So after my comedy of errors that was my playing around yesterday, I got my phone working again. Now I want to try again (and quit before the point that I broke it yesterday). However in fixing it I upgraded to 253 firmware, and I want to go back to 434. however I open up FlashTool get my ftf ready to flash, turn the phone off. Next step is volume down and plug in the USB cable, but instead of the light coming up green, it flashes green then immediately red (or possibly vice versa) then the light goes off, but FlashTool still thinks it's connected and in flash mode until I remove the cable. The battery has been a little bit drained through all of this. so I'm going to pump it up overnight and try again in the morning and hope that it just won't enter flash mode under X% battery, but if that's not the case has anyone ever run into this previously? or have any suggestions?
I have a locked bootloader, and it cannot be unlocked so fastboot options are out of the question. However it is worth noting that when I hold the volume up and plug in the USB cable, the blue light does stay on and I can gather info using FlashTool.

U want to flash 434 back right? So u need to enter flash mode which is volume up + connect to PC.
Sent from my BlackBerry 9900 using Tapatalk
Volume up does fastboot, volume down does flash mode. When I hold volume down the problem is the LED flashes Green, then immediately red then turns off and then will not continue flashing.

Can you tell me how did you solve the problem? Because right now I'm having the sam thing on my ZL... I'm trying it with the newst flashtool, the light is green and turns into red and nothing happens...
Do a hard reset on it (using the button on the back), don't turn it on and follow the Flashtools flashing process
1.- Open Flashtools
2.- Flash mode > Flashmode > Select the FTF you just downloaded (The one of 700+MB) > Flash
3.- Connect your Phone in Flash mode (It will start flashing).
4.- Boot your phone and you're ready to go.
When selecting the FTF just select it and leave everything as it is and make sure that you have installed the drivers for flashing (
They are where found you installed Flashtools
In a folder called Drivers, open the .exe and Install these:
- Fastboot drivers
- Flashmode drivers
- Xperia Z and SO-02E drivers
If stills doesn't works I can't help any far as that, but I would suggest you that If you are able try to flash it on another computer (It might sound silly but It could actually work ), also make sure that you're running the latest Flashtool which is v0.9.11.0 and can be found here: http://androxyde.github.io/
That is quiet normal, green appears...red or whatever....out, flashmode connected, look into flashtool.....fine, no light on the phone....flash, but have an eye into flashtool after 1 or 2 minutes if you don't start flashing your phone disconnects automatically...and will stay on charging only.

It would be fine, but tha flashtool displays some kind of instructions when it asks you to connect your phone in flashmode, and I connect it holding down the volume down key + connect AND then that instructions window should close automatically BUT that is just not happening. I've tried it 30 times already, all the drivers on, flashtool recognizes my phone when i start it... It is just not getting in flashmode! Is there any other way to flash the phone without flashmode??? I can get in fastboot I think, because if I press the volume up key while connecting the blue led is on, so it works.
I'm ready to donate for someone who can help me to get this phone work!

Anyway thx for your reply!
what version of Flashtool are you using? If it is the newest from the Androxyde's site, that wouldn't work for me either, you need to use the beta release. There should be a link above to the thread where they update the beta releases.

I have the same problem
I am on unlocked bootloader Xperia L i tried everyting but no help......drivers and all are fine
Just making sure you are doing it correctly you turn off the phone, hold the volume down Jerry and then connecting the usb cable?
Sorry for digging. I hope it helps other people.
You have problem with drivers. You need to turn off driver signature enforcement - search google for "testsigning on". Apply it in cmd, reboot pc. Then install flashtool drivers (fastboot and flashmode, then reboot for being sure) and then try to flash. Cheers
I have Sony M4 aqua fastboot mode is working but flash mode the light is green but flash tool cant recognise it nothing happens
My Xperia Play won't turn on.
When I press the power button, it vibrates like it's turning on but nothing comes on the screen.
The phone charges ok - shows a red LED when charging and green when full.
If I plug it into the PC it detects something but PC Companion doesn't recognise it as an Xperia Play - it just says Phone detected, then gives list of things to do on the phone's screen (pull down status bar and click connect) but I can't do this as the phone doesn't show anything on the screen.
I've tried loading flashtool to re-flash an FTF file, but it won't work unless USB debugging is turned on - again, I can't do because the phone doesn't boot up or show anything on the screen.
Can anyone think of anything that I can do to try and get it working again?

To flash stock ftf, you must turn off phone, select ftf from flashtool, and when flashtool ask you to, press back on phone and while keeping it pressed, plug usb cable
It also can be hardware problem, most probably flex cable (most vurnerable peace in Play)

If flashtool report that debugging is of that only means you are not in flash mode.
Can you enter fastboot mode? (press and hold search then plug usb)
If flashtool again report debugging is off, then that means you can't enter in fastboot mode either.
-Your keyboard don't work
-Flex cable from keyboard don't work
-Slider flex cable don't work. If you replaced it, do it again. If someone else replace it, claim your warranty and let him reopen and recheck flex slider cable
-Again, as your screen don't work, it means either screen is broken, or (guess what?) flex cable is faulty

these are the possible reasons for that to happen
1) u dont hav the drivers for ur phone
download "pdaNet"(just search in google) install with ur phone connected.
2)if u r using USB 3.0 connect to USB 2.0
in my laptop i cant enter fastboot when i connect it to usb 3.0
samething happened to me too at first this fixed it.

Are you sure it says that your bootloader can be unlocked in service menu
7378423 in dialer i think
Sent from my Xperia ion using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If some one can find me a way to unlock the bootloader on L28H i will be very glad...cuz i just bricked my phone and i`m flashing a rom for locked bootloaders
Go to: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and read everything!
At the bottom click 'Start Unlocking the Bootloader'
Quote:
First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu. In your phone, open the phone dial pad and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
After you have verified that you can unlock bootloader, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Continue"
You will get "Are you sure prompt" accept it by clicking "yes i am sure" (i assume that you have read an understood it)
Then accept the "legal terms"
Finally you will get a "Create Unlock request" page, enter your IMEI (sometimes the last digit needs to be removed for this to work), name and email address
You should now receive your unique unlock key, its displayed on screen, SAVE THIS KEY SAFELY
Extract fastboot_with_Android_USB_file.rar and open fastboot folder
Hold SHIFT and right click on the background of the folder
Select 'Open command window here'
Connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn phone off, hold Volume UP button and plug in USB Cable) [make sure drivers are installed as explained above)
In the cmd windows type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
If a value is returned (it will return 0.5), it means the phone is correctly connected
Type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY and replace KEY with the key which you received earlier.
Your device should now be bootloader unlocked

Is the same for any ION. Some can be unlocked, some can not be unlocked.

once device is in fast boot mode follow the instructions to unlock the boot loader. and It is not necessary to unlock bootloader to install custom rom. it is only required if you want to install custom kernel. recovery can be installed without unlocked boot loaer.
my xperia play r800i wont boot, it show signs of charging e.g blinking red light, red light, amber light, green light but wont boot, when i remove the battery and re insert it it will vibrate and then nothing, not even the backlight turns on just a black screen, i cannot get it to go into fastboot mode strangely so i am unable to unlock the bootloader and therefore unable to flash it back to stock, if some-one could point me to a video guide on how to get it to go to fastboot mode. with the pc companion tool it first saw it as "null" device but after updating it to latest firmware through it it reconises it as an r800 xperia play yet i am unable to browse files at all on it. i have also re updated it through update service but again nothing. this phone is out of warranty so that isn't an option. if anyone could help it would be awesome.

it shows no sign of charging after i "turn it on" the light goes out but i know that the front plate, i.e screen, menu buttons is not completely unresponsive as if i hold the return button when i insert the usb it recognizes it different as i was trying to flash it earlyer and it is required in the updating process, please help
it seems if i leave it plugged in via usb it will randomly disconnect and reconnect from the computer and yes pc companion will say that the device is detected every time. its almost as if it is stuck in an invisible and very fast bootloop as it disconnects and reconnects at about 5 second intervals, this only happens after it has been "turned on"
it also appears that the battery drains very rapidly as after only a few minuets of removing battery holding power ect. it will no longer "turn on" and no light will turn on through a usb socket but when plugged into the wall after a short pause it shows the amber charging light. could this be a battery problem? con the xperia play normally boot off wall power without a battery? if so then it is the devices problem as mine cannot but if it cant normally then maybe its the battery, i have a new one ordered and will arive soon and i will keep you posted.

U can restore ur device with flashtools
U can download it from flashtool.net
After u downloaded flashtool and installed right drivers go here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184897
and download one of r800i .ftf file
Then turn off ur phone and hold back button and plugin usb power led should turn to green
After that open flashtools and click on flash button on top left then select flashmode and find ftf file and select flash
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
if its not clear it is acting extremely erratically with no clear logic but a few things are constant. no boot. no fastboot mode, charging light, pc companion recognizes it. have tried to be as detailed as possible so that someone may be able to pinpoint my problem.

If u use flashtool u can restore ur phone without unlocked bootloader because Flashmode doesn't require unlocked bootloader

my xperia play r800i wont boot, it show signs of charging e.g blinking red light, red light, amber light, green light but wont boot, when i remove the battery and re insert it it will vibrate and then nothing, not even the backlight turns on just a black screen, i cannot get it to go into fastboot mode strangely so i am unable to unlock the bootloader and therefore unable to flash it back to stock, if some-one could point me to a video guide on how to get it to go to fastboot mode. with the pc companion tool it first saw it as "null" device but after updating it to latest firmware through it it reconises it as an r800 xperia play yet i am unable to browse files at all on it. i have also re updated it through update service but again nothing. this phone is out of warranty so that isn't an option. if anyone could help it would be awesome.

I've got the exact same issue, but i know how you could get into flashmode or fastboot mode.
Pull the battery out and insert the usb cable (when connected to the Pc of course) and put the usb cable in the phone while holding either back or the search button. Nownit should be in the sepected mode

If your bootloader is unlocked, use this method, BUT BE SURE to carrefully READ the steps, ESPECIALLY the steps "when to connect cable to phone"

Does your flashmode stop after a little bit of time? It does on mine, that's really strange

Try to get into fastboot mode with that method i told you above. Then try to unlock your bootloader.
Pull battery out -> insert usb cable first in computer -> connect it to the Play while holding the search button -> put the battery in while still holding the search button -> then you can release the button and you should be in fastboot mode.
That's at least how it worked for me. I then flashed new software. Mine can boot to the kernel where it then shows an image and shuts down. No matter what kernel/rom I am trying.
