[Q] Flash mode not working properly. - Sony Xperia ZL

So after my comedy of errors that was my playing around yesterday, I got my phone working again. Now I want to try again (and quit before the point that I broke it yesterday). However in fixing it I upgraded to 253 firmware, and I want to go back to 434. however I open up FlashTool get my ftf ready to flash, turn the phone off. Next step is volume down and plug in the USB cable, but instead of the light coming up green, it flashes green then immediately red (or possibly vice versa) then the light goes off, but FlashTool still thinks it's connected and in flash mode until I remove the cable. The battery has been a little bit drained through all of this. so I'm going to pump it up overnight and try again in the morning and hope that it just won't enter flash mode under X% battery, but if that's not the case has anyone ever run into this previously? or have any suggestions?
I have a locked bootloader, and it cannot be unlocked so fastboot options are out of the question. However it is worth noting that when I hold the volume up and plug in the USB cable, the blue light does stay on and I can gather info using FlashTool.

U want to flash 434 back right? So u need to enter flash mode which is volume up + connect to PC.

Volume up does fastboot, volume down does flash mode. When I hold volume down the problem is the LED flashes Green, then immediately red then turns off and then will not continue flashing.

Can you tell me how did you solve the problem? Because right now I'm having the sam thing on my ZL... I'm trying it with the newst flashtool, the light is green and turns into red and nothing happens...

Do a hard reset on it (using the button on the back), don't turn it on and follow the Flashtools flashing process
1.- Open Flashtools
2.- Flash mode > Flashmode > Select the FTF you just downloaded (The one of 700+MB) > Flash
3.- Connect your Phone in Flash mode (It will start flashing).
4.- Boot your phone and you're ready to go.
When selecting the FTF just select it and leave everything as it is and make sure that you have installed the drivers for flashing (
They are where found you installed Flashtools
In a folder called Drivers, open the .exe and Install these:
- Fastboot drivers
- Flashmode drivers
- Xperia Z and SO-02E drivers
If stills doesn't works I can't help any far as that, but I would suggest you that If you are able try to flash it on another computer (It might sound silly but It could actually work ), also make sure that you're running the latest Flashtool which is v0.9.11.0 and can be found here: http://androxyde.github.io/

That is quiet normal, green appears...red or whatever....out, flashmode connected, look into flashtool.....fine, no light on the phone....flash, but have an eye into flashtool after 1 or 2 minutes if you don't start flashing your phone disconnects automatically...and will stay on charging only.

It would be fine, but tha flashtool displays some kind of instructions when it asks you to connect your phone in flashmode, and I connect it holding down the volume down key + connect AND then that instructions window should close automatically BUT that is just not happening. I've tried it 30 times already, all the drivers on, flashtool recognizes my phone when i start it... It is just not getting in flashmode! Is there any other way to flash the phone without flashmode??? I can get in fastboot I think, because if I press the volume up key while connecting the blue led is on, so it works.
I'm ready to donate for someone who can help me to get this phone work!

This is what I have right now in my phone. And one more thing that I was searching for and gugled it and cant find answer
ROOTING STATUS: unknown If I'm right there should be a text like Bootloader unlock allowed:Yes or No... not unknown
Anyway thx for your reply!

what version of Flashtool are you using? If it is the newest from the Androxyde's site, that wouldn't work for me either, you need to use the beta release. There should be a link above to the thread where they update the beta releases.

I have the same problem
I am on unlocked bootloader Xperia L i tried everyting but no help......drivers and all are fine

Just making sure you are doing it correctly you turn off the phone, hold the volume down Jerry and then connecting the usb cable?

Sorry for digging. I hope it helps other people.
You have problem with drivers. You need to turn off driver signature enforcement - search google for "testsigning on". Apply it in cmd, reboot pc. Then install flashtool drivers (fastboot and flashmode, then reboot for being sure) and then try to flash. Cheers

I have Sony M4 aqua fastboot mode is working but flash mode the light is green but flash tool cant recognise it nothing happens

[Q]Flashmode with Xperia Play 800a

Hi, I was wondering if my phone is capable of entering flash mode.
I have a Xperia Play 800a phone, from Rogers
Additional Info:
Tried Gingerbreak initially to root, not knowing it wouldn't work
Moved on to FlashTools, to attempt flashmode
Then to Root MANY ANDROID! [Upd: 20.09.2012].
Afterwards, I think the option to root (zergRush) using Flashtools got enabled, clicked that, phone got rooted
Busy Box v1.19.0 installed
Android version: 2.3.4
Build number: 4.0.2.A.0.42
Baseband: -56
Kernel: 2.6.32.9.-perf
Root Access Allowed
Using FlashTools:
I've read multiple threads of how to get into flash mode (Unplug your device, power off the device, hold back button or home button (also tried pressing button consistently), I've tried pretty much every button, and then plugged in the USB cable. I even took my battery out for 5-10 seconds, still no luck.
Once I plug my USB cable back in to my phone, while still holding back button or search button, the Sony Ericsson screen pops up, I get a dundun sound from the PC, then my light turns green and the phone begins charging, no flashing/action from FlashTools begins.
This is the message I received from FlashTools
28/022/2012 17:22:09 - INFO - Device disconnected
28/027/2012 17:27:36 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
28/027/2012 17:27:36 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
Another method I attempted was going into SDK tools folder, opening cmd in the platforms-tools, using the command "adb reboot-bootloader" and it just restarts my phone normally.
fastboot commands don't work either
I've checked my phone to make sure I'm in Mass storage mode, and USB Debugging is enabled.
I visited this site as well http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
Entered this number into my phone
*#*#7378423#*#*
Looked under Configuration
Rooting status: Bootloader unlock allowed: No
Could this possibly mean phone isn't able to enter flashmode?

Im assuming you have the xperia play drivers installed. You can enter flashmode but you cant enter fastboot mode thats disabled because your bootloader is locked. To enter flashmode power off your xperia play (without removing the battery). As soon as your xperia play is off press and hold the back button and connect the usb cable to the pc before the xperia play boots up. If you look at the power button it should have the color green=flashmode thats what you should be looking for. Blue is fastboot mode these are indicators what mode your xperia play is in. You need green for flashmode.

When you say Xperia play drivers, what exactly are you referring to?
And yes I do follow those steps of turning off the phone, and holding the back button, and plugging the USB cable. The light still stays green, no matter what I do.
Maybe I'm missing those Xperia play drivers?

[Q] Bricked Sony Xperia S - Help a noob out!

Hi all,
The wi-fi connectivity on my Sony Xperia S died a few days ago and it's been irritating me so I decided to root and upgrade to JB to see if that would sort it. Unlocked the bootloader, no problem. Rooted the phone, no problem. But then CWM couldn't identify my device and wouldn't install Recovery. I decided installed Flashtool and flashed a stock kernel, and now it seems like I have bricked the phone.
When I boot I get the Sony splash, and the Fastboot (blue) LED which then goes out leaving just the Sony splash. Pressing the volume keys does nothing during Fastboot. I can do a hard reset and get the three vibrations, but the boot loop is just the same when I power on again. In this state Flashtool says the following:
1/039/2013 14:39:48 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode
11/040/2013 14:40:32 - INFO - Device disconnected
11/040/2013 14:40:37 - ERROR - Drivers need to be installed for connected device.
11/040/2013 14:40:37 - ERROR - You can find them in the drivers folder of Flashtool.
Naturally trying to install the drivers does nothing.
Anyone got any suggestions? I really don't want to have to fork out for a new phone!
Cheers.
Make sure you have closed PCC & SUS.
Then try to flash again.
As cities516 has said, first make sure that all those Sony services and update programs are completely shut (be sure to check the status bar near the time and date too). When you power on your phone, the blue led blinks for some time and then fades away. This blue led does not indicate that you are in fastboot mode. So here is what you must do:-
1) Press and hold the volume up + power button until you get 3 vibrations.
2) DO NOT START THE PHONE.
3) Prepare flashtool to flash the stock ics ftf file
4) When it prompts you to connect your phone, hold the volume down key and connect the USB cable.
5) A green led should light up and the flashing process should begin.
6) Once the flashing is complete, disconnect the phone and turn it on normally.

[Q] I need help with my xperia ZL

WILLING TO DONATE for someone who can get this phone work!!!!!!!!!!!
I've just recieved an xperia ZL, i bought on the internet. The seller sold it as it is not working, it cant connect to any network, or its just not recognizing the sim, and the back cam is not working. The cam can start but when I take a pic with it and it tries to save it then I get an Error message without any error codes. I think the phone should be flashed, and I need help with it. Will it make the cam work? And can it help on the other problem with the sim card? I took some pics about the details of my phone, I dont understand anything from it but it can help for some of you
who is an expert, the only problem is that I cant link it in my post because I am new on this forum...
UPDATE
FLASHTOOL installed - YES
Flashtool recognize the phone when it is started - YES
When flashtool asks me to connect the phone in flashmode and it shows me the instructions I cant get it in flashmode.... The instructions dont disappear when I hold the volume down key and connect it to the usb, just red yellow green led flash for <1 second, and nothing happens... then I must restart the phone with the small button on the back of it.
So the thing is stuck here!!! I think my phone is not able to get in flashmode! Is there another method to flash it without using flashmode on phone???? And I think it can start in fastboot mode because if I hold the volume UP key and connect it to usb then the blue led is ON...

And I would like to ask someone a favor who has ZL too, to look at the SIM card slot and see how much pins are there, in my there is 3 and it seems like the fourth on the left side is missing?!?

There must be something u r doing wrong.
For the Z/ZL u need this version : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162907
Find it here also: http://androxyde.github.io/index.html?1371023098000
PC: Flashtool and Flashtool drivers installed, Android ADB drivers installed, Sony PC Companion installed.
XPERIA : Enable USB Debugging, Enable Install from Unknown Sources
Then, turn your phone off.
Start Flashtool, click on the thunder icon, select the file u want to flash, ok, wait for it to load, once the program asks for the phone connect the USB cable, then volume down, keep pressing it while u connect the phone to the usb...should work.

Thak you for your reply... Iam ready to donate for someone who can get this phone work for me!!!!!
I've tried exactly as you said. Everything is installed and the flashtool is that version and it recognize my phone, and when i start the flash and the flashtool shows me the instructions to connect my phone in flashmode, there is the point where I'm stuck. I've noticed that I simply cant get the phone in flashmode. I'm holding the volume down key while I connect the usb in it, then the red yellow green leds flahses for <1 seconds and nothing happens. I'm sure that the phone is unable to get in flashmode. Now I think I need another flashing method where flashmode is not required, if it is possible....
Anyway thank you for your time and reply!!
have you tried to check on sony service ? just make sure that is not hardware broken.
There are several method other than using flashtool.
1. Try repair feature in PC companion
2. If cannot update try download SUS (Google this)
3. Or if u can enter fastboot, u can try to flash the kernel via flashtool. Open flashtool, then go to fastboot mode, then unplug cable, Off phone, enter fastboot mode, in flashtool select flash kernel, select .img file (extract from kernel u download, ensure it has recovery I.e doomkernel) then flash. This will only work if ur bootloader unlocked already + rooted.
4. Try to root u phone 1st then unlocked bootloader. (please backup ur TA partition, otherwise u will loss ur DRM key or in other word loss ur bravia engine feature, custom Rom have this feature already actually, unless u want to go back to completely stock Rom)
5. Or download older version of flashtool. Ur version of Rom .278 seem very rare, never heard of it. Maybe the first Rom version before .350.
Sent from my C6506 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Yes for that you'll need root with cwm installed. So that you can flash using any zip..

Use SUS to repair ur phone...if still getting the problem let me know...I've found a workaround the SIM error

I'm sure that the phone is unable to get in flashmode. Now I think I need another flashing method where flashmode is not required, if it is possible....
Anyway thank you for your time and reply!!

Thanks for your thread.
But I spent hours now, to find a method to reanimate my phone. Still I didnt find a suitable semc package or sin_file_set to flash in s1tool.
In other thread I read a hint that maybe I destroyed my trim area. First of all I made a backup of trim area with backupTA program. The backup is a .zip file or .img file. Is there a possibility to restore my phone?

Hi there,
I believe I hard bricked my phone as well (screen stays black, phone vibrates once when keeping the power button pressed, cant get into recovery, volume down button pressed connecting via USB shows green red light flash).
However when connecting to the S1 tool Emma from Sony it detects the phone (see below screen shot) and says the bootloader wasn't unlocked. I am pretty sure I have done this. (It is my first attempt to install a custom ROM).
The S1tool in the description below seems not to recognize the device.
After ploughing through some threads and reading about opening the device looking for test points I thought your thread here seems to be more fit for purpose.
I used EasyRootTool and LockedDualRecovery. I also created a back up file with Backup-TA before bricking it. I got this on my other machine and can attach this if needed tomorrow.
Some help and guidance would be very much appreciated.

Another point: in flashtool you can also unlock and lock the bootloader BLU button). (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440597) (http://xperiafirmware.com/8-firmware/46-sony-xperia-z1-compact-d5503) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642081) (Type in phone *#*#7378423#*#* and go to Service Info => Configuration. If bootloader is unlocked it will say: "Bootloader unlocked: Yes". If it says something else like "Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes", it means the bootloader is locked.). So you can check, if your bootloader is really unlocked

I dont believe, that your phone is ahrdbricked. It seems to be a soft brick: screen stays black, phone vibrates once when keeping the power button pressed, cant get into recovery, volume down button pressed connecting via USB shows green red light flash.
So, you can boot in flashmode. Use flashtool (latest version 9.18), its a powerful tool. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658952) (http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/09/0...allows-you-to-download-xperia-firmware-files/) (http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php) If you have installed flashtool, change to the flashtool folder (C:\flashtool), then drivers, execute the .exe and choose the drivers (fastboot, flashmode and for phone model), then run flashtool. In the links above you can see how to use it. Just boot your phone in flashmode (volume down and usb connecting, run flashtool, click the flash button, choose flashmode and choose a stock rom (which you must download before and copy as .ftf file in the folder firmware in flashtool folder, or type the button device, checkdevice updates, choose your device and download a appropriate stock rom ), then reboot, root yout device again with easyroottool or newroot, reboot in recovery and flash a custom rom. I think it should be possible.

Hi! Did you have any luck?

brick after format data

Hello,
I think I bricked my phone
I wanted to upgrade from 4.4.2 to Lollipop http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/stock-14-6-1-236-customized-lollipop-5-t3264557
And before that I did a factory reset and format data (I got some issues on my phone and wanted to get rid of them).
Now I can not enter TWRP, I can not enter any thing. At the time beeing, after many restarts my red button is broken, I switch it off by "Power/Vol+". When I connect USB or push Power it starts and showing "SONY"-Logo, and that's it.
I can not enter flash-mode by swith off, hold Vol- and connect USB :crying:
What can I do to revive my Z1c?
Thanks for advices

Yes, I have, but can not enter my phone/don't know how to enter.
I tried switch off (by Power and Vol+), holding Vol- (the same with Vol+) and plug in USB - it starts by showing red light for 2 sec than "SONY", and than stps - no vibration, no light, only steady "SONY"
cmd shows: D:\Programme\Android-Tools\ADB>adb reboot recovery
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found
D:\Programme\Android-Tools\ADB>adb reboot recovery
error: device not found
D:\Programme\Android-Tools\ADB>adb reboot bootloader
error: device not found
Phhu, hopefully I do something wrong?!
Install these:
http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/drivers/xperia-z1-compact-driver/
and try again

Power off by holding power and volume up, just wait until it turns off. When it's totally shut off, just hold volume up while plugging in cable and don't let go of volume until you see blue led. Then you're in fastboot mode. If you have drivers installed, it's very easy to get into recovery from there. Report back.
If everything fails...
Install Flashtool on your PC, install the necessary drivers (flashtool helps you with that), download the current firmware in .ftf format and apply it with Flashtool to your phone.
No worries, we all were at your point sometime but you can always recover
Thanks for your hints, folks!
I'll try them tomorrow and give feedback than.
Happened to me once.. Accidentally wiped my data..
Only thing I managed to do is reinstall kk via flashtool
Xperia Z1 Compact .386 rooted
...nothing works.
I have almost everything installed: adb.exe (800kb from 25.07.2013), fastboot.exe (157kb from 25.07.2013), Flashtool (Version 0.9.14.0 built on 12-02-2014 22:45:00), Xperia Companion (Vers. 1.1.24.0), Z1 Compact drivers (device manager says: Sony sa0109 ADB Interface Driver Vers. 2.0.10.30018 from 13.05.2013).
Nothing can connect my Win10-PC via USB3.0 to my phone, it always starts (when I connect it to USB by holding wether Vol+ or Vol-) with red (...pink?) light for about 4sec, followed by showing "SONY" - end of anything.
I'm desperate :crying:
Do you get the green led light when connected in flash mode (vol down when connecting)?
Xperia Z1 Compact LP .386 rooted
No, only red light, than "SONY" without any vibration...
May it be, that usb-debugging was off, whenn I did format data?

I don't think it's related..
Maybe you don't have the right drivers on pc?

The fastboot or flashmode mode should always work - regardless of what you did regarding ROMs or setting or wipe etc.
It is there to save your phone if you messed up.
It is strange that you cant enter these modes. Normally its really a driver issue and you PC does not recognize your phone.
But it seems that you have tried installing them already.
Just to make sure... Your phone charges normally when you plug it in right? So it cant be a broken cable or broken micro-USB connection on your phone?
Also make sure your phone is really shut down - try resetting it with the red button next to your SIM-card slot.
Your volume buttons were fine before right?

BINGO!!! ...the usb-cable, it's a pretty new one, but I know, the Z1c doesn't like every cable
Now I can enter Flashtools flash and fastboot mode.
I think I lost almost everything on my Z1c, even my TWRP, don't I?
What is now for noobs like me the best way to install this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/stock-14-6-1-236-customized-lollipop-5-t3264557

Thank you all for your input!
It was the usb-cable which did load my Z1c and in this case (no other data on the phone) light the purple LED and display the "SONY"-logo - but nothing else!
All the future problems are more on the software-side (my head) than on the hardware (the cable)...
Haha glad you sorted it out. I don't know why but I also have USB cables in my collection that just won't work with my Z1C... But now you know
If you need further help in restoring with flashtool you can also look up this thread for some helpful links : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2631291
Try to get your hands on a .108 firmware (I always keep one on my PC in case I f*** up ). They are easy to root with EasyRoot and from there you can flash dualrecovery. With TWRP you are good to access your backups or flash anything you want again.
