Okay guys, I literally just got my phone last night and boy do I love it! But I've just noticed an issue with it already and I just wanted to see if others have had it as well. Heres a few pictures. Ive got a slight issue in that I ordered it from the US, but I live in New Zealand. Heres hoping I have some sort of warranty
Some input from users would be nice!
Cheers,
Call HTC or the place you bought it from. One should be able to accommodate you.

ya man that is not normal at all. I'm pretty sure they have a warranty over this, just give them your pictures along with your order information.
Yeah well I contacted HTC and because it is a US phone it's gonna cost me $100 to get it shipped to Taiwan to be repaired as local New Zealand stores will not cover it.
It's a real pain in the ass. I could get it replaced by Amazon but then I have to ship it to someone in the US to ship to Amazon to replace it .and then get it shipped back to me as they will not replace it if I ship it directly to them.
I literally just got this phone last night and so disappointed that it just happened to be one of the unlucky phones. :'(

Man that sucks
You can always try self repair.
That is cosmetic part only. If you see iFixit teardown, that strip is basically held down by simple glue. You can take it all out carefully (use hair dryer to soften rest of the glue). Make sure that stripe is straight. If it isn't, make it straight and put it back on using fresh glue (dont use super glue, use hot melt adhesive minimally, spread it using match stick or something small on the back of the strip. Or you can use any water based adhesive that dries to clear finish).
It is not that difficult repair job. You can always take help of local repair shop. This is rather simple fix.

I have the same with mine, but not that bad.
It's quiet simple to repair with super glue and one razor. You just have to put a very tiny bit of glue in the razor and spare it, but be carefully to do not split glue over the screen or the camera!
I'm just watching mine, if it gets worst I'll try to fix, but seems to be same since I bought it.
This sort of tampering results in a warranty void though doesn't it? I'd be really keen to try it out. But then if something really bad does happen to my phone I wanna be able to fix it. Haha man if only everything was just perfect

My phone has the exact same issue. Does not seem to get worse, but over a span of a year or two I could see that peeling off substantially more. It is held on by simple adhesive, I'm put off by the issue but then again it is an easy fix.

Can you not replace yours either? I'm tempted to fix it, but I dont want to void the warranty if its needed. This is covered under warranty I assume? Since its happening to multiple people it should be anyway! Itll cost me $99 if I wanna replace it since I bought it from Overseas. I could get a free replacement from Amazon but that requires the US address to send it to. Any trustworthy people out there?? haha

Grizraz, did you eventually repair it yourself or did you send it in? My friend bought an m8 and has this problem as well. She's going to bring it back to the carrier to see if they can do something for her. Otherwise she might go the warranty route. I'm considering helping with the repair because it seems easy..
Everyone else who repaired it themselves.. Was it easy?

I took the phone to the local Sprint dealer, a mall kiosk, they never heard of this happening and simply referred me out to some support number. I have not attempted to fix it yet, will post when I do with photos etc. Hopefully if someone else fixes it, they will do the same

Hello ladies and gents.
I got a quick question, but first a little back story...
I owned a Droid Incredible for a few months already.. *Oct.2010 however it got stolen a month ago.. I have retrieved the phone already.
While I was at my Apartment...my phone fell and it's broke... screen shattered..case dinged up.. and now I have a beat up paper weight..
My local carrier which I bought the phone from are all out...and they asked if I wanted a Fascinate...I like the phone.. but I am so used of the Dinc with so many things I did with it.. I've grown to love it....
My question is this...
Where can I get one..I've looked on Ebay.. I would like at least "like new" condition.
I've google searched and I've came across some for a decent price.. but these online "stores" either have not seller ratings or what ever....
I am no noob at buying stuff from ebay, but the stuff I've bought were either BNIB stuff or some after market hop ups for R/c Cars...
Please point me in the right direction.
I am starting to hate not having a phone to tinker with.
*If this is in the wrong section pls move it to the correct one.kthx.

eBay is the best place.
Buy from a seller who has more than 50 ratings and you are almost positive to get exactly what you are expecting to get.
They would lose more money by getting a bad rating than they would selling you a messed up product.
That -and- the fact eBay has buyer protection, though it is a pain to work with.
Make sure it has a clean ESN if you are getting used.
Thanks anybody else..
I have a post in the marketplace pm me
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
you can try swappa.com
Craigslist -> cellphone section
Just make sure you call verizon when your about to purchase or beforehand, and check if the ESN is reported stolen. If not then your good =)
I got a "like-new" Dinc from verizon a month ago by accident when they were suppose to send me a brand new one because of warranty. They never billed me for the "like-new" phone, so I have an extra one. I'll sell it to you for $350. PM if interested.

You can go to http://www.repairsuniverse.com/ and just buy the parts you need and replace it yourself. Much cheaper than buying a whole new phone.
And $350 for a like-new phone ... he could get a like-new one on eBay for much cheaper.

Honestly, if you don't want to go through Verizon- eBay is your best choice.
Most people and companies who are looking to sell devices sell them there instead of creating an entire new website to sell them on.
But I think you don't like eBay very much so I won't push it anymore

So the glass front is cracked and im guessing the actual amoled screen is broken also? You feel it vibrate when you turn on but nothing after that?
If that is the case this is what you would need
Digitizer - http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-incredible-droid-glass-touch-screen-digitizer-replacement.html
Bezel - http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-incredible-droid-front-housing-bezel-replacement.html
Screen
AMOLED - http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-incredible-droid-lcd-screen-replacement.html
SLCD - http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-incredible-droid-lcd-screen-replacement-slcd.html
You will also need to get tools that will be able to remove the screws on the phone. I personally got this, has exactly what is needed plus so much more for a great price.

If you do it that way just watch this video

It shows you everything you need to know on how to take apart the incredible.
If that isn't what is wrong with the phone, well at least you know what to do if you do just crack your screen lol.

wow..
I may do this.. It does vibrate.. and the home buttons on the bottom light up...
The actual red part of the phone the bottom left is dented somewhat..

Honestly...
If my phone is beyond repairable.. then I am not gonna try and get these parts.. but I like the idea that it CAN be done.
I've dealt with electronics stuff before.. e.g Full Blown Water Cooled Computer.
I am not afraid of EBAY.. it's just that... these kinds of purchases e.g phone purchases..through the *bay.. is luck of the draw I guess.

If it does that then i'm 99% sure you can replace the screen, digitizer, & bezel, and you will have a working phone again. It def turns on, with that vibrate means you can at least get into the bootloader. So you can download this file
http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/stockstuff/PB31IMG_3.26.605.1_RUU.zip
rename it PB31IMG.zip, put it on the root of the SD card, boot into the bootloader, run the update, and this will return the phone to a completely stock 2.2 as if you bought it from VZW.

Yeah, eBay can be iffy. But if you do go that route, just look at the feedback percentages and the comments. Any recent negatives and move on to the next seller.

Hmm... That is the best words I've heard in a while.. that it's almost 99% a possible fix.
Let me describe what happens when I "turn it on"..
It does vibrate like usual when it boots.. however.. I can't see much.. haha..
The day it broke.. the screen would light up showing the splash screen as well as other parts.. but with cracks.. I've never seen a phone this jacked up before..
That's about it.. If in fact this is a good indication that it is in fact fixable.. I will ordering the parts ASAP... and have it reconnected..
Question.. with the impact the phone encountered..with the "motherboard" be so much affected to where the actual innards are shot.. say..the gps stuff.. or the accelromater *I know spelling is off.. haha..
I am hoping this all goes well and dandy...
Thanks everyone.
hi guys
i have a big problem...my nexus doesnt recognise my sim anymore.
i have opened it and i can see that one of the 3 sim connector is broken.
do you know a online shop where i can find a replacement for the sim slot ?
or do you know a workaround ?
thx
Same EXACT issue here.. are these pins really fragile or what??
Also, a quick update. I brought this to a store in NY and they said that on each of the 3 rows, that make contact with the SIM, there are 2 pins that make contact. If both are broken (like in my case), they need to replace the whole SIM port because they can't solder the lower pin as the heat will do damage. If it's only the top (longer copper looking pin), than they may be able to fix it.
I am going to get another opinion this Friday and I'll update here. Otherwise, I am seeing if Samsung UK can send me parts or give me a quote to send the phone in for service, but it might not be worth all the money and may have to sell it.
Let me know how you make out if you have any updates!
Thanks!~
Sim connector/tray part
I have the same problem with my Galaxy Nexus...not too sure if the nexus s uses the same part but I ordered from a site called tanstartrade (.ca) and the connector looks similar to what is on the Galaxy Nexus.
have you guys found any resolution to this? broke a pin off with the help of a sim adapter

I'm curious how you are all breaking pins. I have swapped sim cards lots of times (I was testing three carriers at one point) and I was decently rough in doing so. All my sims were normal size sims. Were those of you with broken pins wedging micro sims or using adapters?

Bingo Though in my case, I broke it trying to get it back OUT. I just stupidly assumed that the phone company would send me the proper-sized sim when I told them which phone I had, so I tried to put it in the only way it looked like it would fit. Then again, I am about as mechanically inclined as a monkey, and tend to break things easily
Yeah go with RussianBear's suggestion and mail it to FL.
Im not affiliated with them and havent tried them but I guess they charge around $50 to fix. Locally you might find a place to fix it as well. GL in getting it fixed .
If its a google play store model, Samsung USA should fix it for you free of charge.

They did charge me about 50, but i didn't have to pay for return shipping (priority). I'll recommend this shop to anyone from now on not affiliated with them in any way, except for them doing a great repair job lol

Do you really think they will? I sent a message to Google, who referred me to Samsung for warranty support:
(Forum won't let me post link)
On that site, it says:
If your Device is defective through no fault of your own, you have up to fourteen (14) days from the date the Device is delivered (the "Advanced Replacement Period") to contact Samsung customer care at (855) 392-6398 regarding a replacement Device under the Samsung Advanced Replacement Process.
Since this was obviously my fault, and I'm not going to lie to them and tell them it just showed up this way, I didn't even bother to call and ask.
Just an update... I sent my phone off to the Hassle Free repair place. Apparently, they have one tech (a female) who is the only one that can do these repairs, and they claim she has been sick in bed for over a week now. They've been very responsive to inquiries, so I'm hoping they'll get it fixed eventually.
Will let ya'll know how it ends up.

About 12 days after I sent the phone in, I got a call from Crystal using my phone, saying they had fixed the phone, and apologizing profusely for the delay. After I made the Paypal payment, they sent it off the very next day. Phone arrived 2 days later... SIM card slot looks brand new, and phone works great
So I'd definitely recommend them, but I'd also check in advance if you're in a hurry, and make sure the repair person isn't on vacation or something, since there seems to be only one of her.

Ouch, that sucks man! Honestly, it's probably not worth the cost of repair if that's as bad as it is. My Infuse is my daily phone and it's screen is shattered far worse than that. One crack, even going across the screen isn't too bad when replacement could be very pricey, and you may just crack it again.
I saw another thread on this and it sounds like the LCD is glued to the glass, which makes it very difficult to separate without breaking the LCD as well. Your best bet may be to send it in for replacement. Doesn't look like there's a whole lot of info on fixing the screens on these yet.
This is exactly why I just signed up with insurance today on mine. I always end up with cracked screens some how, and I'm usually very careful. Even with the insurance though, there's a $75 deductible, and I don't know if it'd be worth it still for just one crack.
UK repair is £145.
no other places in the UK other than HTC did it a couple of weeks back because they couldn't source the parts. told them i coule provide them with it but they weren't willing to do it
mine cracked after two weeks, worked perfectly, but there were hundred of cracks across the screen. no way was i willing to live with it for 2 years
Thanks for the reply, the irony was I was holding it in the case not realising it was upside down then BOOM dropped onto Brick paved driveway
Fully expect to have to pay for screen replacement surely HTC must offer some service / support?

Well, sad day today. A golf ball landed on my galaxy s3's screen. Needless to say, golf ball > galaxy s3.
Called customer service to see how much it is to be replaced, and with my insurance, its a big 166$. Ridiculous.
EDIT:
My brother works at a Radio shack, and they'll fix it for like 100$.
Has anyone used Radio shack before to get a screen replacement? If so, how long did it take, and did they do a goob job?

Purchase the replacement screen on eBay, watch a video on youtube on the screen replacement. It's easier than you think and wouldn't cost much at all. If your opposed to that I would trust them, it's not difficult.

The 100$ is what my brother said, after looking online it actually ends up to being 329$.
I'm thinking I'll let T-Mobile do it... I don't want to risk destroying it myself..
Kind of sucks though, a golf ball dropped and cracked it as bad as it did, it's at the bottom, like right on the home button, but the crack went to nearly the top of the screen.
Did you check eBay?? I would think they were way under $100 for the screen.

Well I checked Amazon, I have Amazon Prime for free for being a student.. and they are around $15-20.
I just don't want to take the chance that i make it worse than it already is... I'm not good at all at doing things like that, I'd rather it be done by someone who knows what they are doing.
Also, they said I could use a phone from the T-Mobile store until mine is replaced, which is pretty cool..
Understandable you don't want to make it worse than it already is. Try looking for places in your local area, there are repair shops that fix phones and video game systems for a fraction of the cost. Some times on Groupon they have Groupons for say $60 for a screen replacement, that's always another option you could check out.

Yea, I will look around.. But I do like that I can take it to T-Mobile, and they will loan me a phone while it's being fixed. I'll have to odin it back to stock though. Oh well.
Thanks for the input!
Can't hurt to check around. Anytime!
Ontop of having Radio Shack doing it...it will void your warranty...to keep your warranty either have T-Mobile or Samsung fix it.

Well I called the insurance company this morning. They said $150, and that my replacement phone will be here tomorrow.
All is well, atleast it still works so I can use it until the new one comes tomorrow. Glad im getting a new one as well, instead of just getting this one fixed and sent back.
Thanks for feedback guys! :victory:
Well, as new as a refurbished phone can get. Any replacement/warranty phone that congress from tmobile is most likely going to be refurbished. I know because I have one and I'm very nit picky about my phone and always find some small defect with it.

Yeah, I have had that experience as well... Although more often than not, I end up with a busted camera which is more than a *minor* defect...
Asurion sometimes sends out BNIB devices but only if a) they don't have a refurb on hand or b) you've gone through a few refurbs in a short time.
I tried fixing my Nexus One's cracked screen...ROYALLY ****ed it up (just a little too much glue & ripped a ribbon) and ended up wasting $150 even after selling it for parts on eBay.
I would say if you are thinking about doing it yourself and don't have a lot of patience/manual dexterity/proper tools & work environment, don't try.
Also I figure the S3 is probably a lot harder to take apart than my old N1.

Yeah it may come plastic wrap and all but it's a refurbished one. Fixing the one you had at least you knew it was ok and how old it is compare to a used one that may bring a host of issues.

Well got the replacement today, was surprised when i opened it.
It came with the phone, a battery, a back cover, a usb and charger, headphones, a new sims card.
I'm wondering if I need to send back my old battery, or just the old phone?

I managed to crack my tablet already . It's just the glass, the tablet works fine and the screen looks and works normally underneath. If I call samsung how much will it cost? Is it possible for me to fix it myself, or is everything fused together?

Sorry to hear that. This is just my opinion but because this tablet is newly released I doubt you will find much on the internet on how to replace the screen on your own, I think you will also struggle to find the parts. Calling samsung would probably be your best bet if you want it fixed now or if you can wait a couple of months I'm sure there will be videos online about how to do it. Hopefully it works out for you mate.

Would a warranty cover that anyway? I thought that just covers defects.

I should have made my point clearer, apologies, I meant that they should give you contact details of samsung aprroved technicians in the area but yes he would have to pay for the service.
Thanks for the replies...I called up Samsung and they said to send it and they'd fix it for 200$..ouch. I'm not sure if that's worth it or not. I'm considering taking it to a third party computer repair shop or just dealing with it until the parts become widely available. It works fine, it's just ugly XD. This all depends on if the price was reasonable. Is 200$ reasonable to replace the glass? If it is I'll just ship it off to Samsung now

if you purchased it with a premium credit card, you might be covered with that. You should check.

Ouch. So then you'd have an $800 tablet. I don't know. Depends on your funds and ability to toss money around.

I think $200 is way too much - I know this is easy for me to say but if I were you I'd wait a while, to put it into perspective the OLD note 10.1 Digitizer costs just $20 and maybe a few tools will cost you no more than $10.
Honestly I'd wait and see if its really difficult or not and then attempt it yourself if you think your capable to do it. I bet there will be videos online of people taking the 10.1 2014 edition screen apart soon but then again if you mess it up you've wasted a $500 device. Also call a few local electronic shops once the Digitizer becomes available on ebay surely they will charge a lot less for labour.
Like I said its easy for me to say all this but obviously you know whats best. Best of luck mate I really do hope it works out.
I purchased it with a prepaid debit card so no purchase protection. I think I'll just take Geordie Affy's advice and wait it out. 200 bucks is a pretty significant amount of money for me. The wait will punish me enough so I'll know to be super careful with expensive new items in the future lol.

It's too bad you didn't purchase Square Trade protection for it. $99 but they repair it or give you what it's worth if it can't be repaired.

I would sell it on ebay for $75 less than what you paid for it.
You may get a bite.
Then chalk up the loss as experience.
Curious to know how much force did it take or what happened that made it crack.

Search online for SquareTrade discounts. I got 30% off mine for the GN 2014. If you are within 30 days of your purchase, you can still purchase a warranty, and claim it down the road at some point. That's kind of in the "Grey Zone", but may be your best bet until the parts are easily available.

I bought in only about 3 weeks ago but....since I called Samsung and they have me on record saying it cracked, wouldn't ST find out from them and not cover it anyway? I really wish i had been more careful. I wonder how many months it will be until parts are available

If I were you, I would get the SquareTrade warranty. There is no way that they would know about any conversations that you had with Samsung. Plus, even after you get this issue taken care of, it will still benefit you to have the warranty to tackle any future problems. They are pretty easy to deal with in my experience.

I'm just worried that since samsung sent me an email to send the tablet to them and everything, they have it on record that I called it in. Then when squaretrade calls them...Still though, I guess I can get the insurance and even if they don't fix it, it'll be useful to have for any future issues. I'm pretty clumsy

SquareTrade doesn't care if you ROOT your device. I spoke with one of their service reps, and asked that specifically before I purchased the warranty.

I'm not sure I understand. If you buy a SquareTrade warranty, the warranty is with them. Samsung has nothing to do with it.

My tab pro s cracked too, and I have no idea how. Is this screen particularly fragile? Mine shows pitting on the keyboard at the same place where the fracture begins. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the magnet that shuts it. Read on Amazon that someone had cracked theirs twice already and the screen was super fragile. ???
