Hello All,
Over the weekend I dropped and it landed on the lower left corner. Not the screen is a little bit cracked in this area.
Now the home and menu buttons don't work. Back button is still operational without issues.
I did a hard reset to see if this could fix it, but it didn't. Now I have a home button app, but would like to gain home button back.
Any ideas on what I can do?
Thanks

I just dropped CM 10.2 on it, still not working.
What is Pie?
EDIT: I found Pie....thanks, this one is awesome.
I had the same thing happen, sort of. I was getting lots of phantom touches, verified with show touches in developer options. Lived with it for a long time. Then it slipped off the couch, probably foot drop on thin carpet, took out the capacitive touch buttons. Had the frame-digitizer replaced and all is well!

Hello everybody! My htc desire's physical buttons(actually just the volume up, home and menu keys) don't work...I press them but nothing happens. Well, they work sometimes, but when they don't I reboot my phone, randomly press some buttons, and they start working again. I just don't know what the fault is. Im on MildWild CM 4.3. I think the same problem was with other firmwares too. Can you please solve my problem?
If your device is under warrantly just send it to htc. It's a hardware problem, not something that you can solve with a script.
Ah, so you're telling me there's nothing that can be done to repair it? Cuz, my device isn't in warranty(I just replaced the casing)...

I don't know.. I don't want to be pessimistic, maybe you can search for similar problem in internet and a possibile solution, not just for Desire but in general for devices that have hardkeys. Maybe like use a spray for electric contacts while device is turn off and wait that it's completly dry before turn it on. Good luck.
I can't remember it, but I think that this problem appeared only after I got my casing changed. Could the technician have done something wrong? Can I send it to the man that changed the casing?
It's probably just some dust that gathered underneath the buttons. I had the same problem with the volume down button. I used a needle to clean the dust around it, and then it worked perfectly.
I dont think it could be due to the dust, cuz there are three buttons which simultaneously stop and start working... It's a bit strange tho..
I have issues now with my power button. It's unreliable... that is, the button sometimes works. Sometimes when I press it, it opens the shutdown menu..
Started all of a sudden. Not sure how that happened... and it's out of warrenty for 4 months now..
That is why I use Button Savior
Same!
I am getting the same problem. I have replaced the keypad flex with a new one and still getting the same issue. It would start working randomly like if I open the browser and open many tabs, then it would work. Funny thing is that they would not even work when I go in recovery.
My desire is 2yrs old now but I still love it.

Same problem here.
Mostly happens with Home and menĂ¹. Less often with volume buttons.
For now I'm using the "button saviour app" workaround, but if is something hardware I will know it very soon... (made a copy of my rom on a friend's HTC Desire)

All three buttons simultaneously! Buttons usually fail gradually one by one and drive you mad finally. I would put my money on the keypads being misaligned during whatever you got done with casing. Take it back to him.
If its some kind of misalignment no amount of sprays will help.
BTW I use zmooth for button conservation
use soft key instead

I had the same issues : menu button working randomly, had to press very strong on up/down volume buttons.
I've dismounted my phone (using this : http://www.formymobile.co.uk/desiredisassembly.php ), and I saw that there were a lot of dust, hairs.. I tried to clean up/down volume buttons the best way I could, and they both work so much better now! Not totally perfect though.
By the way, I noticed that there was a lot of compressed dust in micro-USB connector and was able to remove it fully (thing I couldn't do without dismounting phone).
I didn't want to go farther to access menu/home buttons because I didn't have time and Menu button works quite OK.
I have the same issue here with the volume buttons they tend to get unresponsive and unreliable.
Even though all the parts were renewed since six months ago, the volume buttons are probably bad designed?

You could replace bad working buttons' functions with others'. My volume down isn't working, so I made my search button act like a vol down.

Hi folks. Today I experienced a strange behavior with my phone. The physical touch buttons at the bottom of the screen stopped working. I have tried installing other launchers but that did not solve the problems. It seems like a hardware failure. Can anyone help with ideas to solve this issue? Thanks
UPDATE: I pressed all three buttons simultaneously and they now seem to work fine. Hope this is a solid solution.
Hi
I have the same problem with my device but pressing all 3 buttons simultaneously does not work.
What is the exact process you followed when pressing the buttons? were in you in a specific screen or app when you did this? or perhaps you held the buttons for an extended period?
Thanks
Probably a general android bug, had this on my old nexus one and a reboot always sorted it

do a factory reset(back up your stuff first) then if the buttons are still not working then try to press all of them at once. that should definitely work.
thanks but nothing seems to work. The bottom bit of the screen (just above the buttons) is also not working so I've sent it back in
hopefully i get a working one soon!
i have the same problem with extras ((
bottom buttons not working, none of the three. when i try to press back or menu, sometimes nothing happens and sometimes i press above, like menu at home page. And also when i try touching them after a while the phone gets crazy, and starts to make strange things like entering some apps, switching between them, taking screen shots (normally i do not know how to do it), beeping, and going on like this without stopping. if i can press power of, it stops, otherwise it goes on himself.
My device is original , original rom without root, or something else. i just install apps from market thats all.
Please help me, now i can not use my phone
I had a similar problem, it was a hardware fault.
Couldn't use the hardware buttons anymore and the 1st centimeter above the buttonskeys was living his own life.
Friday I brought my phone back (unlocked) to a HTC service center near me and today (Monday) !! I got it back, repaired with a new LCD screen (all under warranty).
The positive side is that I have no scratches anymore in my screen, 1st thing i'm going to do is buying a screen protector.
Hi.
Same problem, physical buttons on bottom does not work.
The story:
Left my phone with my son for 3 days, came back, got phone back with buttons not working any more.
(Homer Simpson struggling Bart mode on).
Naturally, my son got no idea what happened etc.
Sent it back to HTC on warranty, they picked it up last friday, and I already got it back.
Reason for fault was water damage (got pictures attached from htc).
(Homer Simpson struggling Bart mode on).
UNREPAIRABLE as HTC states.
Problem is, buttons are ONLY thing which does not work. Everything else works fine, touchscreen, camera, etc etc.
As I went and read few forums, seems that there's some connection lost between physical buttons, and mainboard, is that correct?
Finally my question - If I will replace whole front panel (LCD + panel with buttons), would it be possible to make it work again?
Brand new complete front panels are like 40GBP on ebay...
(I will not be trying to replace buttons only, as I read, it is a bit more difficult...)
Help?
Install a ROM which has on screen buttons. You won't even notice the cap. buttons after a couple o' days especially if you switch off the lights.
And they are totally customizable - you can have up to 5 buttons if you want.
Cost: 0 (zero) GBP.
PS. Don't strangle your son LOL

Hi Guys.
Got my HOX wet when hiking, and now my three buttons are dead.
I am running Venom 3.7.7 and have found Button Savior (search on the market) is a perfect replacement for the broken back/home buttons.
Good luck to all who have the same problem.
So my screen turns off (but is still active) when the slider is nudged a bit (either when closed or open). I've never dropped it and didn't update firmware. Pretty sure its faulty but just wanted to check if anyone else had the same problem. Oh because the phone thinks screen is on to get it back I have to press the power button twice (once to lock then unlock) this works most of the time but not always in which case I have to pull the battery.

Similar but much worse. It takes that much movement to make the screen go off but once off it doesn't come back until you press power button twice ( and sometimes not even then)
I think I'll have to send it off for repair which is a right pain as I won't have my awesome phone for ages.
When i had that problem it only took the a week to repair it
Hey guys, just wanna ask what should i do with this issue. I've had my phone for about 3.5 months now and I just started having this issue this morning. I haven't dropped my phone in any kind of way (no water damage or anything). When i woke up this morning i was trying to to tap it, but it just wont work. I rebooted my phone to TWRP and the back button is working just fine. I thought there was just something wrong with the rom i was using (wicked v5.1, its awesome btw) so i wiped my phone and re flashed it, but it didn't fixed it, I tried flashing a different rom but the results were still the same. Then i thought that its probably because of my screen protector (iloome Tampered screen protector) but then again,I've had the screen protector on for a very long time already, and i never had an issue pressing the menu and back button.
For clarification, which is not working?
You mentioned you tapped the screen and nothing happened.
Is the screen not responsive to touch?
You mentioned that the back button works in recovery.
You also mentioned you never had issues with back and menu buttons.
What is not working, and is the issue intermittent?
hello, thanks for the rep.

Im talking about the capacitive back button, and when i mentioned that it works in TWRP, im specifically talking about the capacitive button, not the on screen buttons like on nexus devices. And it also seems to work sometimes if i pressed on it hard enough while its connected to my charger.

Hmm....
So the back capacitive button is working intermittently.
Sounds like a possible hardware issue.
I know you don't want to, but to rule out the protector, one would have to remove it, but that canbe sa last resort.
If all else fails to resolve issues, and you have insurance, you'd have torremove it anyway. Even if under Samsung warranty and no insurance.
- you can try the setting that's used for gloved hands which increases screen touch sensitivity. I forget it's exact location, but easy to find out.
- you can check if this is a known issue, etc.
- try wiping cache and dalvik cache in Recovery again
Greeting,
I have a weird issue where occasionally after I unlock my phone, my screen doesn't respond to touches.
The phone works and responds to physical button presses but not touch.
Not sure exactly when it started happening but I've noticed this since last week.
Any idea what might be causing this?
I'm running Android Pie 52.0.A.3.202.

Got the same issue on 52.0.A.8.50. Usually opening the app drawer then hitting back solves it - otherwise none of the virtual buttons work.
Searching the web it seems touch screen issues are pretty common on this phone. I'm a bit surprised there isn't more being said here about it. Some experience delayed response, dead areas and no response at all. I have all those issues. Yes I am on the latest firmware. I bought the phone used with a cracked screen. I checked it out and everything seemed fine. I didn't use the phone, just set it aside til replacement screen came. I should have used the phone to thoroughly check it out but didn't want to go through the set up process as I was thinking of B/L unlock and root. New screen came, put it on and seemed to be working fine then screen would be unresponsive. I did factory reset, software update, software repair, went into settings and made sure sure everything was good there, nothing helped. The center of the screen (it's low and a bit off center) is pretty much dead. To open launcher I have to touch and hold near the top of the display. Touch and hold apps is tricky. Usually the app just opens. When I do get it to hold, I can't drag it anywhere. Also, icons in the drop down menu cannot be rearranged or edited. I can swipe up/down, side to no problem. Whenever touch goes dead completely, the home, back and minimize buttons go grey. Tapping the power button gets them back functioning again. . Function test fail. Free draw lets me make a few seconds of scribbles then freezes. The x and rectangle block draw does the same. Tapping power button does nothing to unfreeze either. The color test pass even the block one where you toggle on/off sections of the screen in blocks. It's really weird. First impression would lead me to the screen but it really acts like a software issue. From what I've read so far this phone uses two different display drivers. I not seen anything on how to change that and it would more than likely mean B/L unlock and root, which I'm not against doing. I would just like to know definitively if it's hardware or software. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Maybe the Screen Connector wasn't 100% clean.
Or not only the screen is damaged.
I heard that the touch problems are mostly fixed with PIE. The closed source clearpad touch driver is..... Hoping Q gives us an further updated driver.
You still get sometimes ghost touches on higher workload or if the keyboard app is slow, but if you have dead spots the hardware sounds damaged.
