LG Apps no picture - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i updated kitkat for my gpad and then did a factory reset. Then i start installing the apps i use to have. Install apex launcher and when looking for the task manager widget its not there. Also i discovered that the email,lg backup, task manager, voice mate, voice recorder, and weather app has a generic android guy picture when using apex launcher and any other launcher, but the apps work and this doesn't happen on lg stock launcher. Is there a way to get this fix or is anyone having the same problem.
Here is my firmware: V50020b USA

try solo launcher or TSF 3D Launcher

solo launcher and TSF Shell 3D Launcher works well on LG G Pad 8.3, I tried those launchers on my G Pad 8.3 with v50020A kitkat update. all LG app icons are shown on those two launchers. try those launchers and see if it works for you too.

i tried the widget for solo launcher and it doesn't work for me. Is this because of kitkat because everything used to work for jellybean.

LG Task manager widget and other LG app widgets does not work on solo launcher, cannot even be seen in widgets menu in solo launcher. And I have HTC android phone and all HTC widgets don't work on other launchers than HTC Sense launcher. So it is not only LG devices that don't support their widget to third-party launchers

No. It didn't work even on jelly bean, it's LG decision to not let their app widgets to support other launchers. So it's not a bug.

3rd party launchers causing reboot

I've tried Launcher Pro, ADW, and GO Launcher and all have caused random reboots. Thought it may be an app, but after a factory reset it continues to occur.

Thanks for the great advice! I'm well aware of the stock launcher and have my reasons why I'd like to ues a 3rd party one (resizable widgets, more screens, ect...).
The stock launcher supports resizable widgets and scrollible widgets as well.

Are you sure it´s a 3rd party launcher problem? I´va had reboots and freezings just using the stock launcher.

I've had no issues with the stock...Within 5 minutes of using the 3rd party ones I get the reboot. Maybe they aren't optimized for ICS...Guess I'll stick to the stock for now.
eh I thought ADW just updated for ICS.
Anyone else experience this?

Looks like the paid version of ADW was updated on 12/7/11 so it may have been updated for ICS. I was using the free version which hasn't been updated since 12/22/10.

I had this issue on a Samsung Epic 4G, thought it was the phone, but now got a Motorola Photon Q and SAME THING!! I uninstalled the 3rd party launcher (Go Launcher) and it stopped! I had this problem previously with Launcher Pro too! Epic was on Gingerbread, now this Photon Q is on ICS 4.0.4.

Launcher not working on android 4.2

Just converted my maguro GNex to the takju 4.2 build, and now I found out my Hololauncher HD isn't working neither is Apex launcher.
Anyone else experiencing problems and are there (temporary) alternatives as a launcher ?
EDIT: Nova Launcher works!
Nova is a no go also

they need to update the launcher to work with 4.2
he has a beta that works. in your nova settings, hit the update, menu, choose beta, give it a try. it's still not perfect, notification drop down does not work, but the launcher buttons do.

I have the same issue with Nova Launcher after updating OTA to v50020b. They appear correctly in the stock launcher but not in Nova. For me it affects Calendar, E-mail, LG Backup, Memo, Task Manager, Voice Mate, Voice Recorder and Weather. The apps still work OK, just a bit annoying that the icons don't show properly. Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

Put LG widgets in third party launcher

Hi, is there a way to put LG health and smart notice widgets on third party launchers? I am thinking in apex launchers, which is the one I am using now.
And in case it's not possible (or needs root, I didn't rooted yet), is there a way to open LG health app if you are not using stock launcher? I can't find the app icon in the apps list.
If you're using Nova Launcher,
Hold somewhere on the desktop
Add
Shortcut
Activities
LG Health
I don't think that it's possible to use the widgets but the app itself works. Its a shame I reaalylike it
I'm listening in if anyone has a fix
I would love to see. LG Health widget or app

There is a way to use Google Now Launcher and probably any other third party launcher and use LG Health. You'll have to download an app called Anycut which creates shortcuts. Create a shortcut and choose 'activity' and it'll let you choose LG Health. Smart Notice is unfortunately not possible yet...but I'm sure someone will figure it out.
I wonder if there is possibly some sort of hack to get the LG widgets into other launchers. I really like the calendar widget and the weather widgets are nice, too. They're the only reason I use the stock launcher.

I'd like to know this too. I like having an email widget to use with LG's built-in email app for my various non-Gmail accounts. However, I cannot use the widget with Nova launcher. I was able to use Samsung's email widget (w/ Nova) on my prior Note 2 device.
Can this be done if I root?
Hi, I'm waiting for the same thing... put smart notice on nova launcher... no idea?
Envoyé de mon LG-D855 en utilisant Tapatalk

Up....
Anyone now?
How about now? Lol.
But seriously, I'm really surprised this hasn't been achieved with ANY stock launcher widgets. Back when I had a Razr HD, the circle widget was one of those on the wish list, but never happened also. The closest resolution was to find a "clone" 3rd party app.
Does anyone have a "technical" explanation as to why this is not possible?

Launcher for LG G3 D852

What's the best launcher for the LG G3 D852?
On my previous Nexus 4, I used AWS and I liked it. I'm assuming LG is :TouchWiz? Is that the best? Least resource intensive?
I use Nova Launcher Prime, on every phone I use. I don't lice how Optimus UI looks
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
I tested up to 6 launchers for speed/features/cost.
Nova Launcher Prime takes the cake on all of them.
I would say l launcher prime. Supports double tap to sleep which I love on launcher. Still use stock launcher though
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the suggestion. Upon looking through my apps on the Play Store I realized I purchased Prime a long time ago. So that's what I'm using now.
Now just to figure out the best SMS app for this phone. I used to use Handcent on my Nexus, but for some reason it lags on this G3. Really odd.
messenger by google. set as default in settings
Another vote for Nova launcher, it's definitely best overall
I'm using Textra SMS app, it's highly customizable.

I'm trying that now, but it seems to lag. I'm don't know if it's the app itself, or the Kaspersky Security app that's installed.

Thanks for the suggestion. Textra works perfectly, and doesn't lag on the device.
Now all I need is an update from 5.0.1 and I'd be a happy camper.
