3rd party launchers causing reboot - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've tried Launcher Pro, ADW, and GO Launcher and all have caused random reboots. Thought it may be an app, but after a factory reset it continues to occur.

Thanks for the great advice! I'm well aware of the stock launcher and have my reasons why I'd like to ues a 3rd party one (resizable widgets, more screens, ect...).

The stock launcher supports resizable widgets and scrollible widgets as well.

Are you sure it´s a 3rd party launcher problem? I´va had reboots and freezings just using the stock launcher.

I've had no issues with the stock...Within 5 minutes of using the 3rd party ones I get the reboot. Maybe they aren't optimized for ICS...Guess I'll stick to the stock for now.

eh I thought ADW just updated for ICS.
Anyone else experience this?

Looks like the paid version of ADW was updated on 12/7/11 so it may have been updated for ICS. I was using the free version which hasn't been updated since 12/22/10.

This. There are updated drivers for 4.0.3. I suspect they will fix this.

I had this issue on a Samsung Epic 4G, thought it was the phone, but now got a Motorola Photon Q and SAME THING!! I uninstalled the 3rd party launcher (Go Launcher) and it stopped! I had this problem previously with Launcher Pro too! Epic was on Gingerbread, now this Photon Q is on ICS 4.0.4.

Launcher Problems

So I am using a Samsung Galaxy i9000M (Bell Canada Carrier) and I've tried the following launchers:
Launcher Pro
ADW Launcher
Go Launcher
after several days of using these launchers they always seem to crash and I have to uninstall/reinstall the launcher all over again.
anyone know of any launcher to run themes that doesnt fail on the Samsung Galaxy i9000M???
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA Premium App
i think it happened to all launchers this is maybe because they use the same framework so clearing cash and stick with only one launcer at a time ( not switching between them might solve your problem )
try also clearing the delvik cash and partion cash as well from CWM
For us middle eastren users Arabic language has same problem but with TouchWiz4 it keeps on looping between Samsung Galaxy S blue logo and prompoting to select Home

ADW replacement for CM7?

Well, I have to admit it that I dont like ADW launcher in CM7. I prefer much more simpler such like Gingerbread launcher. I found one but it kept FC on me. Do you know where to find one that is working properly?
I can't say I I have a gingerbread launcher apk, but "zeam" is a simple launcher in comparison to adw at least it has been to me in the past

I know i was just simply saying i remembered that back in 2010 haha. isnt AOSP simpler
launcher pro plus is worth every penny. LOVE IT.
you can try launcher pro the free version first..
beware of the other fake "launcher pro"'s out there though.

I'm currently using zeam, its excellent. Doesn't have the features of the others but its very fast and very stable. I haven't had it fc on me in 6 months.
From what I understand launcher pro has become rather bloated? What do you guys think?

I had Zeam on my phone for a looooong time. Gave up on it after a couple of bad updates that introduced lag and switched to LauncherPro. Despite having larger footprint, IMHO LP is pretty lag free and has the features that I want (scrolling widgets) as well as a way of saving the dock settings. Zeam kept crashing on my Epic, and there was no easy way to restore the icon spacing etc. settings. Granted, I never ran it on CM7 Epic, but still have Zeam as my choice launcher on my CM7 Nook Color. I also have ADW EX (the premium version of ADW) and feel that its interface is not very intuitive/somewhat clunky vs. both Zeam and Launcher Pro - but it is the most full-featured and customisable one of the three. Never tried Go Launcher but heard some very good things about it.

And another +1 for Go Launcher, although it seems like it's a bit too full-featured to be considered a "simple" replacement. I don't have any issues with the options, but I could see it being somewhat confusing for anyone wanting just a plain home replacement.

Try go browser. Its what I always use.
I like go launcher but I remember reading something from konane (I believe) and he said that within golauncher there was a similar service to carrier iq and that it sends reports (or something) to the developer with info about our phone. That is why most people inlcuding myself expirience poorer battery life with go launcher. Other than that I think Go launcher is the way to go!

[DISCUSSION] What launcher you prefer on Jelly Bean?

Hi,
We all know that stock launcher in JB is soo smooth and fast.
And we all know that popular launchers (Nova, Apex and others) are not yet updated to run on JB or to run as smooth as stock JB launcher.
What are your experiences with 3rd party launchers on JB?
Are you planning to use stock while those 3rd party launchers are updated?
Any other houghts?
Good luck!!!
For me, Nova Prime is smoother than the stock Jellybean launcher.
Stock is by far the smoothest.
Apex is laggy especially in the app/widget drawer.
Same experience with nova.
I'll stick with stock for now.

But the guy above says Nova ir smoother. How come?!
I've noticed in other forums (outside XDA) people say the same about Nova (it's same smooth as stock JB).
I'm a heavy Apex user.. and I don't want to switch to other launcher. What are chances Apex dev will update his launcher with JB vSync (or whatever feature JB launcher uses)?
Stock.
I have 2 GNex both running 4.1.1 and one with Nova and the other with Apex.
I can definitely say for the moment, Nova is smoother. Especially with transition effects.
However I have been running Atom since last night and damn I'm impressed!
Now if it will only take icons from theme packs....

If you change Nova's animation speeds from Nova to Stock, you'd notice a major improvement in transition smoothness. Hence why I still use Nova.
I usually use ADW Launcher but I tried it on Jelly Bean and it is pretty slow in comparison to stock launcher so I will be using the stock launcher till updates happen to it (and others too).
I prefer stock for now, its super smooth

Stock has some great benefits, like fling to remove apps and widgets, app reflow, etc, but I'm still sticking with Nova. Kevin is updating the launcher with all the JB features, so we'll have JB smoothness with customizations from Nova. Winning!

I'll use stock until Apex makes a Jelly Bean version.

Apex for sure.

Are there any custom launchers based on jelly bean yet?

Reason I ask is that the stock jb launcher is way faster and smoother than apex or nova but I can't use the stock launcher right now because I use 240 DPI and want 7x6 grid. The stutter when opening app drawer is unbearable. I tried different kernels and even different Roms same thing.
Anything available yet or should I just go back to stock density.

Dunno about Apex launcher but with Nova reportedly* you'll get smoothness if you go in to the animation speed options and select stock speed.
(* not my tip - I've always stuck with stock speed on Nova is working fine for me on JB)
I am using the paid version of Nova, which was updated yesterday to support JB animations and it is nothing but butter.

I still can't quite work out if I find Apex or Nova as smooth as stock, and can thus switch back to them and get customising.
There'a a mod in the themes section. I havent tried it, but it might be worth a look.

That's because stock launcher has nothing in it compared to Apex. I've run 3 JB roms now with apex launcher and Franco kernel. Fast as fast can be. I have to say I am quite disappointed in JB though, I find there is not much to their update.

Launcher not working on android 4.2

he has a beta that works. in your nova settings, hit the update, menu, choose beta, give it a try. it's still not perfect, notification drop down does not work, but the launcher buttons do.
