On my Note 2, I have a super AMOLED screen that uses energy to make any color except black. Since the screen is the main energy hog, users use black wallpaper and apps with black backgrounds.
But I read that the Tab has TFT technology.
So will save battery by using black?

I can't believe that nobody with a Tab can answer this!

I would only assume no it doesn't. I've been running cm11 with blackbean theme and get the same battery life.
I can't believe people get attitudes for asking questions when they can test it themselves?

Sorry, most of the people that bump they're own threads do have the device.
In a nutshell, its a tft display so going black isn't gonna help cause the l.e.d. lights are always active. Samsung hasn't really made these tablets up to par like they do with other devices.
My thoughts, I'm sorry if you already ordered it, but if you haven't and still have your heart set on a samsung tablet, I would go with tab 3 8.0

Thanks for explaining. I kinda thought TFT didn't work like Super AMOLED.
It should arrive tomorrow. So I won't need to get black apps and use black wallpaper. OK.

p.s. a little tip, try placing the keeep! in different positions on the back of your phone, dont be afraid to reapply it as it can be cleaned with water and re-used try it
i find just above the speaker is a good position for a right handed person, for the 2 middle fingers to go into as you naturally hold the phone.
I currently have a Galaxy Nexus and was going to get a Nexus 4 but after reports of not so great battery, I'm thinking about going with a Note 2 instead. I had a Galaxy S2 with Touchwiz and did not like the look of it at all, it was just so basic. Problem solved after I rooted and installed a custom ROM on there.
However with the Note 2, from what I've read, a lot of features will be forfeited by leaving Touchwiz. I'm using AOKP with my Galaxy Nexus and like all the added tweaks and will find it hard to leave them.

with a quad core and 2gb of ram I don't have any issues just running apex (or another launcher) over touchwiz launcher. Get most of the TW tweaks with a better launcher.
Agreed with using launchers. Ive used the s2, s3 and now the note2 with nova and love it. Love the gestures as well. Cant get much better imo

Totally agree. I am using Go Launcher and couldn't be happier. I think most people grab roms because they have a tweaked launcher... but I can't understand what I am missing by not doing so, other than multi-window. I would rather wait for multi window and have the rest of the phone work than the other way around.
So I'm getting a new and sparkly Galaxy Note 8 in a few months for my birthday, and I do know how to root and flash.
I'm wondering if it would be worth it to flash a custom ROM onto the device, because the S-Pen relies on so many Samsung applications to be useful, with out the Samsung apps, the S-Pen is nothing but a small finger. (Except, would the proximity work with the S-Pen and jelly bean?)
I'm most definitely going to root my device and install my favourite apps that require root.
Could you please tell me if it's really worth doing, Thanks.
(Sorry for noob-ish post, I've only posted a few times)
[EDIT]: So I'm now thinking weather I should get the new nexus 7 over the note 8, I want the note 8 for it's spen abilities, but the new nexus 7 is an easy-to-root straight from Google device. Thoughts?
I'm rooted, but still on stock. In fact, I intend to stay on stock 4.1.2 because that way I can have cascading floating multi - windows which are just yummy!

I love my note 8.0 . rooted and installed civs reflex ROM. No problems for me, just lack of apps2sdcard.. So I can't get a lot of the good games. Other than that its perfect IMO. Nexus 7 seems just ok, this tablet (may sound weird) but my gf share the tablet by her using pinterest and I'd just watch YouTube or video player while she does that. Multitasking ftw

Buy the new Nexus 7 2013 (2gb ram) with android 4.3 . There is a universal issue with the galaxy note 8: screen momentary freezing, and no one know if it is hardware or software or if the next android update can fix it or not.

It is not hardware cause I've been on custom rom/kernel since day one and never experienced a screen freeze. Betting it will be fixed in future Samsung update.

Must agree, no problems running civs reflex ROM. I know the screen freezing issue because I've been on stock ROM and noticed it. It is very annoying.

I downloaded civ reflex rom last night and I am experiencing the same freezing issue as with the stock 4.1.2 firmware.
I have also flashed CM 10.1 and there were no screen freezing at all. But CM sucking too much battery, I reverted back touchwiz.
The civs rom was created based on stock samsung firmware so I think the bug on this rom is the same with the stock firmware.
I think Samsung will not put out 4.2.2 for the note 8, but instead it would be the 4.3 update, and this would take at least 5 or 6 more months.
I think I am gonna sell this one and buy a nexus 7 (2)
Are u sure u downloaded reflex and not flexbeam? Also I think u have to select his modified rom, if u don't u get the stock kernel. Perhaps I'm wrong, I can't remember my setup. I just know I'm on reflex and running his 2.2 kernel, no screen freeze. I really hated that screen freeze, wouldn't have rooted if it didn't have that!

I'm going to buy a Nexus 7 too, but for personal use, and I will keep the Note 8 for work. To me, they are too different and can't be used for the same purpose. I need the 8 inch screen and the s pen for work. And I need the smaller size and better than retina ppi for comfortably reading eBooks on it. (Having an affordable device with LTE that I can switch at will between Verizon, AT&T or T-mobile, is a nice bonus too!) The screen freezes on the Note 8 have not interfered with my work. But they are really really bugging me when I try to use it for anything other than taking notes.

Hi! In Galaxy S4, Note 2 and Note 3 forum has been ported Galaxy S5 Touchwiz.
I tried in my Galaxy SIII 4.3 but not work, onlywork in 4.4 KK
This is the link for the launcher http://www.electron-team.com/index.php/addons/addons-for-dn3-v4-x-kitkat.html
if anyone want to try port this launcher for 4.3 and operate in our Galaxy SIII.
Thank you and i hope finally we can enjoy Galaxy S5 Touchwiz in our Galaxy SIII.
Sorry for my bad english.
I think it's very difficult to port.
Touchwiz using tons of ram and galaxy s3 has 1 gb ram. Evenif it's work or not.I'll use alot battery
Maybe awesome @Arsaw will find a solution to get this working on the S3, like he already did with S4 and Note 3 Launcher very successfully.

Yea he could, but as I said before. He cant do anything about ram
One question
but one question, galaxy note 3 has 3 GB RAM and his Launcher and My Magazine works in Galaxy S3 perfectly , Galaxy S5 like Galaxy s4 has 2 GB RAM, i suppose galaxy S5 launcher works without problems in our phones no?
sorry for my bad english and sorry because i don't understand a lot of developing.
it's verry hard to port ( not impossible ) but verry hard specially that our S3 don't have the 4.4 kitkat update ..

Good evening, was hoping someone could post the TW launcher included on their 8/10.5 Tabs. I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 ed that I'd like to try and use it for (and since the resolution and Android versions are the same...I thought it might be no/minimal headaches).
For those of you that haven't played with one...the Note 10.1has a god awful hald-baked version of TW on it, which looks kinda like a GS4 versions...and kind of like the Pro models. I'm using the Google Now launcher, but miss some of the Two features oddly...so I'd like to give this version a shot!
Thanks,
Z
